I know you can't tell from the video resolution but I absolutely adore how the items that fell out of the Cobbler's pockets line up with them spilling out in next scene. I know that this was hellish work, but I appreciate it existing so much.

Yes....many years ago, back in 1990. Some of the animation was roughed out by Art Babbitt in the 1980's, so I was both animator and assistant animator on this sequence.
@@asteuartwthat’s amazing! The animation is so fluid! The scene where the thief and the cobbler get entangled with each other is so satisfying to watch If you could remember how long did it take for you to animate those scenes?
I have seen a lot of animation in my life, yet not a single one has motivated to do my own moving art as much as this movie right here. It's so depressing it never managed to be completed and shown the way it was meant to be 😭
It’s fairly complicated, but that DOES pretty much sum it up. He would waste outrageous amounts of time, outrageous amounts of money (investors money), throw away footage, lie to investors about progress, etc, Like, literally, his team would complete 15 minutes of animation, color and all, and then he would just decide he didn’t like the scene any more, and scrap it (literally scrap it, as in, destroy it all so it could never be used). The man was a great artist, no doubt, but he had no business throwing around other people’s money.
I remember seeing this as a child. Whether it was on tv or rented from the video store, I don't remember, but a finished version did eventually release at some point in some form.
It's a bit different working on a big movie; everyone is pushing you hard to do your best work. The process is collegiate and iterative. Lots of sweat and tears along the way.
you know what, it wasnt the cobblers fault, it was the guys whos job it was to move the carpet, they were clearly late as zigzag was stepping on the roadat that point
funny how youtube has decided to push this rather suddenly, also sad to see how much animation really was killed as a genre by Disney before I was even born.
д. I can only imagine that it was either incredibly fun, or incredibly infuriating animating Zig Zag's walk.
Kind of both at the same time
A True Art indeed
It’s usually both at the same time.

I love how Zig Zag is a mile away from his servants.
And how the procession is preceeded by several thugs whipping the crowd aside.

It saddens me so much this wasn't properly finished.
Wait you’re an animator for this movie?? I’m such a fan of this movie! Can you point me in the direction of more of your work?
1:45 even without the tac Zig Zag's servants fucked up, they failed to put the next carpet down before Zig Zag stepped on the ground
Zigzag: *Annoyed because he's getting eaten by crocodiles and a vulture while still fucking alive*
Also Zigzag:
I feel like that his feet are probably the most vulnerable part besides his entire body.
One of my favorite animated villains just because of how he's animated
And the way he speaks
Dude is dripping with Swag, almost as dope as Dr. Livsey's walk
I love the vibes he has during the walk
Now this is how i want to pull up to the function
Master work. Great animation Alex.
Thanks!
Animation style reminds me a lot of Felix Colgrave!
yesssssss! I was thinking the same!
Vincent Price was excellent in this movie. I always loved Zig Zag's shoes.
Yes the shoes are a lovely detail. Like a lizard’s tongue
Mr. Williams, your work is impressive!
Thank you!
I'm so glad that they played the original audio in this video until when Tack was being captured.

I hear many people say that this movie was never finished due to the director's obsession over perfectionism, is it true?

The full film is called "The Thief and The Cobbler"
Easily some of the best and most creative animation put on picture
