  • The new 2018 F850gs gets a redesign led headlight, so I decided to take my 2015 bmw f800gs to the XXI century by adding an LED headlight as well. I found a plug and play led headlight from Atoplite on Amazon and I got one. The bike looks like a brand new bike, possibly the biggest visual impact mod I've ever done.
    I hope you guys enjoy and thanks for watching.

    Just had my first late afternoon-early evening ride with the new light. Love it! Lights up the road well, definitely seen from approaching cars. It does seem to bounce a little, but I think the OEM did too. Thanks Albe!

      You might notice the bounce more because the LED is a more defined beam.

    I recently upgraded with the cyclops LED in the stock housing. It's huge improvement but those new LED complete systems really make the bike look new!!. . If yours doesn't crap out due to quality issues over time then I'm going to get one of those. Can even sell the stock lights on ebay for $150 to $175 and recoup some of the costs.

    Hi Albe, I’ve seen a lot of your F800GS videos and I like what you do. I loved this video as it’s exactly the sort of change I’d like to make. I’m now just left with a bunch of questions about how the new LED headlamp assembly compares to the OEM halogen setup: how does the light output compare, how does the power draw compare, do the LED bulbs last longer, how easy are they to replace, how much do replacement LED bulbs cost and are they easy to come by, just a side by side comparison of pros and cons. I’m off to look for the answers but for future videos you might like to cover these topics in the review. Keep up the good work!

      I do not have this headlamp but am considering for my R1200GS. I have an airhead and just the turn signals would drop my charging voltage by 1 volt - replacing with LEDs made it drop to zero but required digital flasher. On a triumph I rebuilt with a motogadget m-unit it will show current draw which was less than half of a conventional h4 headlamp - the high beam on the LED was less than low beam on a conventional bulb. This bulb looks like a reshape of the 7" bulb I have ...

    • @chrishart8548
      @chrishart8548 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The drl part is 0.65A the main beam is 1.8A and the low beam is 2.29A so 7w 20w and 30w. It's crazy bright on low beam and the DRL looks really nice. The main beam is about the same as the OEM halogen. I have some 10w led spotlights that come on with main beam so it's fine

    Looks great! As others have said, I'd be interested to see how it performs over time and miles. At the same price point non adjustable suspension would be of a higher quality than fully adjustable. Any level of adjustment will not compensate for a riders weight. A spring suited to your own weight would be required. Pre load will help with a passenger but not much else. A light person will find the stock springs to hard, a heavy person will bottom out the suspension. I find the whole set up fine, i just live within the bikes limits i'm 75kg which is probably perfect, if i bottom out the suspension i'm probably doing jumps the bike was not built for.

      Probably does use these amounts to keep canbus happy. Also the dipped beam of the LED may be a fair bit smaller than stock. But still puts out more power. Hence less size and still more output means it's doing a good job with the same 50w etc

    • @chrisredfield3240

      I think 20w DRL relates to the seen light i imagine 5 watts is still consumed

      Just done a test on the bike on main beam 18w is enough to not throw a lamp fault, so i believe this would explain why its 30watts main beam consumption. the dipped beam also requires 18w draw to stop a lamp fail showing. I have just ordered the light and will check the current used on each part.

    520 bucks!? why not just throw an led conversion into your current housing, or better yet, swap to HID for like 25 bucks. I'll have to do a video on my HID install. It's brighter than the sun and literally cost 25-30 bucks including ballast, takes 15-20 min to install.

      It does look badass though, and you are the man Albe. I'm just frugal.

      +Benjamin Jorgens for me wasn't really about the brightness but about the look of it, I wanted the bike to look a bit more contemporary.
