Ciao Albe. I had the F700GS, almost the same motor. Man you're right about that exhaust. I had to experiment with a few to get it right. First the Akrapovic was just too quite and the new EURO4 compliance means no easily removable baffle. Next the MIVV exhaust. It wasn't as refined as the Akra, and the first one was defective, but it was perfect and the baffle was easily removable. You're right. The right exhaust really does make a huge difference with this motor. It made the machine much more respectable. Alla prossima!
About the tft you mentioned, for me this instrument cluster is perfect. I live in a 3rd world shithole country, so if you park on the street for 2 minutes, your tft is gone.
Hi Albe I agree with you except for the speedo /tacho Perhaps I'm getting old but I "hate" PC monitors with all numbers and graphs on modern bikes instead of simple dials and hands. Drive safe
Thanks Albe, this relates well to something I've been pondering for a while now, categorizing adventure, rally and dual sport class motorcycles. Manufacturers use these terms interchangably, which adds to the confusion for buyers. It would be nice if these categories of bikes could be standardized. Maybe something like this: Adventure: available in large (from 1,000cc and above 230kgs), mid (650-999cc and 180-229kgs) and entry (below 650cc and 180kgs) classes, generally come with a 19" front wheel (can also be 21"), have a fuel range above 380kms, comfortable long distance tourer on-road and on good dirt roads. Not build for getting air time. Examples are R1200gs adventure/1290 super adventure t, F800gs adventure and Suzuki DL 650. There may be an even smaller entry level class starting with Kawasaki's X300 and BMW's g310. Rally: an adventure motorcycle modified to spend time in the air (suspension progressive, adjustable and stiffer), lightened (carry less fuel, thus made for more challenging riding closer to home), seat and screen more off-road focused. Example is the KTM 1090 adventure r or BMW R1200gs rallye. New purpose built entrants could be Yamaha's new 700 Tenere and KTM's upcoming 790. Dual sport: 21" front wheel sub 180kgs that you can drop, jump and ride on a highway for up to 80kms unless you have an iron butt and the concentration of a hawk. Example is the KTM 690. Anyway, this is just a first stab at it.
Hi Albe. Another great video. I own a 2012 F800GS so I can totally related. I've upgraded all those items you mentioned to dial in the bike for my panniers and occasional off-road riding. I would add seat to the list. Thumbs up. Thanks.
My pet-hate and yes it is a strong word, is ASC and yes, also ABS that cannot be permanently disabled. That they both come on EVERY time you turn on the key does my head in. The very moment the Tenere 700 is available in my country the F800 goes for sale, just because of that. And the inability to disable the various modes on the newer versions - game over for me and BMW, and I have owned many over the years. And YES the stock suspension is junk unless you use it to go shopping on blacktop of course
@@gbner9991 I can live with the ABS, but not ASC, which can result you in getting stuck in deep sand if you forget to turn it off. There is also a way of tricking ABS to stay off if you look at the right forums.
The bike is not designed for your weight. The screen is never going to be right, to tall no clean air, bit shorter buffering, bit shorter wind off your chest hits you in the face. Bmw thought why try. I'm not spending hundreds just to change a fully working exhaust pipe and it's not as heavy as everyone makes out. Those vario case mounts weight 1.7kg. And i don't like digital instruments. Would have cost us more for the bike if they did make all the changes for it. Could have specified from the factory the akroprovik exhaust and touring screen. Keep up the great work though love your videos and some more info on the led headlight.
Hi Albe, just a question, can you not get in the States the "Enduro-pro" mode?? is just a plug in the size of a pendrive , disengages the traction control and rear abs and leaves some abs at the front, works great on my 800 adv!!

I own a F700GS 2017 - at some times I have problems with the clutch, find the deadlock or go from 2 to die or first point. It has 10,000 km. and it is in guarantee. It's normal or I should complain to the dealer. Thank Carlos
Hello Oscar, thanks for your response. Even though I was told that the guarantee does not cover this problem I will try sending a letter to BMW Berlin. Thank you
I have yet to see a bike yet where the suspension suits everyone. The springs always need to suit the weight of the rider and this can't be adjusted from 50kg too 150kg unfortunately
The bike basically stayed unchanged for almost 10 years(?). All they changed as far as I know are little things like the rear brake fluid reservoir and some other really minor things, oh and the fairings... BMW should be ashamed of themselves, having pride for supposedly being somehow the cutting edge on motorcycle technology. Leaving a bike complety unchanged for so long and now coming up with the new f_gs lineup for 2018...with a refresh that should have happened at least 3 years ago.
Hi, Albe! Thanks for this video - in fact I was asking for your dislikes. Can not comment them all, but fully agree with No1 - suspension. How the hell the bike of 13-15 hundred US does have unadjustable suspention! Yes, thare so many aftermarket parts, but purchasing the expensive bike you are not supposed to change it completely spending a fortune. There would be most likely no need to change original suspension to aftermarket one at all, if it was adjustable. So, totally agree. And No2 - stock exhaused system is really ugliest ever!
I like the exhaust on my 2017 GSA .., it could be lighter yes .. and when I first got the bike I thought it sounded like a fruit juice blender, but after riding the bike around Australia, and previously having loud bikes, I actually now totally LOVE 800GS exhaust and how dreamily QUIET it is .., and I can now for the first time ever actually enjoy the clarity of music and audiobooks through my Bluetooth earbuds, and easily have conversations without shouting on those times when I take a pillion passenger on board.
When i first saw this bike in the flesh i could not believe it was an 800cc. Looks narrow. First time i saw own was at a triumph dealers looking at a tiger 800. I got the gs in the end
Hi. Thank you for your response, I will contact shortly with the seller bmw agency in order to solve the problem. I enjoy all your videos. very good. Thank you again and I will comment on the response of BMW. Carlos

Hi, I hear you, i definitely prefer an analog tacho, I'm agnostic on the speedo 😀👍
Great video, what brand headlight guard is that?
I bought it on Amazon a long while back and I believe the brand doesn't exist anymore 🤷
I will add to that list the front rim. Its made of butter. I had to replace mine, and some other guys who I ride had to do so.

That is right to the point, well done.
I hate the blinker switches. They are sensitive and it's easy to hit them by mistake. Also the reset button is in an annoying place

Yeah, the bike is not perfect but I still love it
You don't have to stop for the abs to disengage, I ride a f800 gs gs trophy and it works on the fly
Hi Jose, On mine I can disengage the traction control on the fly, but I have to be stopped to turn off the ABS
Progressive springs are cheap and help a LOT.

Yep the rear suspension fails big price for a new one.
No. 1: Fit aftermarket progressive springs. Problem solved for $220 fitted.
Hi Albe, how about the vibrations of the engine. Do you notice it's quite bad when you're doing above 100Km/h and have you experience it. Thanks
The vibration becomes noticeable only above 120km/h, but it’s not too bad

At 10000 km you shouldn't have any problems with the clutch. Since it is still under guarantee I would have the dealer take a look at it.
my opinion is complain, I have heard about similar problems in the 800GS and are related to clutch/tras, so if its under warranty complain for sure.
Hello Oscar, thanks for your response. Even though I was told that the guarantee does not cover this problem I will try sending a letter to BMW Berlin.
Thank you
What about the standard seat? I see you have something for that.
I use an airhawk seat cushion for long trips.
Good vid... I am thinking about the Touratech or similar progressive fork springs for under ~#400.
+Ed DeBolt i want to go big and change the all cartridge, so I need to save some money....
I have yet to see a bike yet where the suspension suits everyone. The springs always need to suit the weight of the rider and this can't be adjusted from 50kg too 150kg unfortunately
Go ohlins and you can still use the ESA on the rear.
+Chris Hart yes man, I'm saving for them, I don't think ohlins will ever call me to send a demo set, lol.
Try Touratech. They make an ESA compatible rear shock and a full cartridge conversion for th forks. I'm seriously considering buying the lot.

+Nick Am well said
Nick Am the R1200GS started to be their main focus. The F800Gs became kinda like a background bike.
I would have thought ABS off would have solved all the problems.
What changes when you change the exhaust ?
You shed some weight, better sound and better throttle response. All and all the bike feels quicker. Beside that it looks way better.

You could argue at the same price point the non adjustable units would be of better quality. The bike is still good value.
