While I'm not here to make excuses for Nissan and Infiniti's problem of letting their lineup lag behind... with this particular vehicle, and specifically this update, I don't see why people are harping on it's age. The platform may indeed be old, but what does that matter to the typical buyer of such a vehicle? Honestly. New doesn't always mean good and old doesn't always mean bad. They updated THE BIGGEST FLAWS of this vehicle, second to the MPG, which were the old infotainment/center stack and the dated digital info screen in the instrument cluster. Those were the only things inside that were visibly dated. The interior design may not be everyones cup of tea, but quality has ALWAYS been top notch and it is very plush and luxurious. So if this thing rides well, is quiet, tows well, has great power, has a very premium/high quality interior, reliable and now has the tech everyone needs on a daily basis (lets be honest, most people will not be using the gadgets that MB and BMW offer on a daily basis, besides to show off to friends)... Who cares about the age of the platform? The fact is despite Infiniti's overall tanking of sales, QX80 sales have been solid and consistent... and it's their most expensive model. So yes, this may not be the newest entry in this class, but it still competes very well for what it is and though they delayed probably the most critical update until now, they have updated this thing pretty often over the years. Also, I know looks are subjective, but I think they've morphed this thing into a very handsome large SUV. This generation didn't start that way, so to me that's pretty impressive. The one in this video is gorgeous in that red color with the black and white interior.

I agree. If its reliable, that's money in the bank to me. Yes, the 9 speed would be nice, but no one in their right mind drives a large suv and wants decent mpg

Dedrean Dixon You’re absolutely right. This is the reason the current model Cadillac Escalade (which is 6 years old) remains the beat seller of the segment. This is the reason the Infiniti QX80 actually outsells brand new entries that’s been recently redesigned from the ground up like the Lincoln Navigator. Newer isn’t always better. If it ain’t broke there’s no need to go “fixing” things. Numbers don’t lie. Cadillac and Infiniti are beast at making great looking, comfortable, off road capable large SUVs. It takes them a little longer to update these things, but their products are so good they still successfully compete with newer offerings from other companies and when they finally do update their lineups, sales show whose products are more desirable and which trucks people are more than happy to take home.
The current GMC Yukon Denali which I feel is a Infiniti QX80 direct competitor will be a great matchup to this. The new 2021 Yukon Denali will probably annihilate this but the Infiniti is still a great competitor offering strong V8 power and a very luxurious and gorgeous interior.

Agreed, and the fact it can TRULY go off road, which means it can handle craters in NY, NJ, CT, that look like those in the dirt on the video. United Nations only use Land Rovers, Toyota Land Cruisers, and Nissan Patrols for a reason. Toyota's Lexus LX is a luxury Land Cruiser, and Nissan's Armada is a Patrol, with the QX being the luxury variant of those two. They did fix the biggest problems. Those outdated driver information, and the outdated Infotainment systems.

I have a 2018 Infiniti QX80 and it rides like a dream. I really don't care about the infotainment system that much but I do care about the cargo space. Infiniti needs to come out with an extended version like Ford and GM. As far as the looks are concerned, I think they made the necessary changes to make the Infiniti look more modern by changing the antiquated grill and adding the led headlights. Overall, I felt the review was fair and accurate.

I love my QX 80!!!!! the mileage is in the short come but the positive side is it fills up with $40 and lasts about 2 weeks. I have the Murano and it is about the same gas usage. Totally recommend the QX 80s, I did my research, I test drove plenty of SUV's from Luxury to Regular suvs and this was the best. The only thing I do not like is the arm rest is a little to low, it it was up a little higher it would be perfect. But all in all take a look you will love it as well.

Most sales are hybrids and crossovers, so manufacturers are smart in what the develop.
Mitsubishi's stopped selling BOF SUV (Pajero/Shogun) in Japan already.
BOF SUV is becoming a niche market.
AWD technology has seen much improvement as well, so people who just need a good AWD, but not off-road capabilities, buy unibody due to lower fuel consumption.
AWD SUV hybrids are excellent for people living in the mountains - that used to be decent size target group for BOF SUVs.
I would not expect big changes unless Toyota decides to use aluminium ;)

With the new infotainment, the QX80 is actually pretty good looking inside and out. The engine is powerful and you’ll more than make up on the fuel cost in terms of lower price paid compared to a Q7 or X7 or Range RoverI went back forth between these since there are aggressive offers right now. The QX80 is closest to the Range Rover I’m fit and finish. The X7 has an incredible interior and drives well but it is also much more expensive and the exterior looks odd to me. The Q7 is much smaller and no comparison. My 2 cents worth.

Technically, this is the 2nd generation QX80. The first gen, 2004-2016 was built on the Titan truck platform in the US. In 2017 they changed to building in Japan using the Patrol platform which dates back to 2010. It's Nissan's competitor platform to the Toyota Land Cruiser. The thing that doesn't make any sense is the fact that the Infiniti QX80 version isn't any nicer than the significantly cheaper Nissan Armada version.

When he said that they updated the infotainment I was like "Yes! finally an Infiniti with infotainment on par with Nissan!" and then I realized that they put the infotainment from the Q50... and even THAT infotainment was outdated when it came out... IN 2014. I genuinely don't understand how Infiniti still has relatively solid sales, their entire lineup is outdated, even the new for 2019 models. The new QX50, yes while being brand new from the ground up, also has a terribly dated infotainment system, and doesnt offer anything more than the Q50, not to mention is incredibly under-powered, and with that CVT, it doesn't belong in the luxury segment. Nissan has gone through 2 entire generations of infotainment and Infiniti has been left in the dust. Now i'm not trashing Infiniti, as their cars are fantastic for the most part, but they just can't keep advertising these 5-10 year old cars with equally dated tech as brand new. Move on from facelifts, and do some damn redesigns. Oh but hey... they finally got Apple CarPlayl. I think Infiniti is the last "luxury" brand to integrate Apple CarPlay.

My guess is that some poeples are afraid of the reliability of the american brands, so they are left with either the Toyota/lexus or the Armada/QX80. The toyota counterpart look even more dated then the QX and sells for the same price of an Expedition/Navigator. So the Armada/X80 is the clear winner if you don't trust ford, dodge and GM reliability.

But for the same price you could have a Ford expedition max platinum, wich has a lot to more offer in therm of features, confort and space for both the cabine and the trunk. The only thing the QX80 has over it is the name and the fact it does not share the board of a F150, but it also look very dated. I really love how the QX80 look on the outside and how it drives, but it just subpar to even a ford product wich is saying a lot. P.S. it also have a bether reliabilty then a ford but the maintenance cost are higher.

The biggest downfall of the QX80 is the dealers you are forced to deal with and how they refuse to fix much of anything. I like the looks both inside and out but I would never buy a new or used one with so many brands to chose from. We just drove a Toyota Sequoia Platinum and liked it a lot but it also seemed very outdated. For me if it's not a body on frame it's not a real SUV.

Is Nissan's stagnation due to the ousting of its two top leaders? Nothing truly new has come out from Nissan, at least at the rate of other manufacturers. Or is this my imagination?
It seems as if the 2010s were nothing but "new" old stock with minor tweaks, nothing "exciting" compared to competition.
When I purchased the G35 when it first came out, it seemed as if it was a start of a new era for Infiniti with other exciting releases like the FX and M models. Then the Gs turned to Qs and then...well, nothing, not really.
As for Nissan, it seems to have been the zero gravity seats, the up-scale Murano and, well, I suppose the updated leaf ...but really, nothing exciting. The tech and features are all outdated.
Is it all my imagination? Unlike before, today, when I hear Nissan I think, "Blah. Better off getting a Toyota. If I want 'excitement', there is Mazda."
