So, after having watched this a lot, I've finally noticed two little nice details that I like. When they sing about the Green Dragon in the start, they shoot the green ball on the pool table into the whole. Later when they sing "throw the wine on every door" they shoot the red ball in. The details shall not go unnoticed, despite they have been for the past 4 years.
Impressive! Have you noticed Peter and Hank BOTH start singing the wrong line at 1:22? They both realize mid-sentence that they should be singing “send them down the hall to roll”, not “that’s what Bilbo Baggins hates”.
Ah, the reason for this being described in the Narsilion section of the Silmarillion. It was right after the Two Trees, Laurelin and Telpirion, were poisoned by Ungoliant, the giant spider and mother of Shelob (as seen in the films). There was one fruit from each tree remaining. The Maia race (basically demigods-- Gandalf belongs to this race) chose two bearers for these fruit. I do not remember their names, but the female one took the fruit of Laurelin and the male one took the fruit of Telpirion, hence the sun is female and the moon is male. God, I need to get a life, don't I.
That always confused me because normally women are associated with the moon because of periods and men are associated with the sun for another reason which I forget.

Hank's been singing regularly on the vlogbrothers channel since... the channel existed. For example, search for Accio Deathly Hallows, The Man who Throws the Tetris Piece, or Mother Pheasant Plucker.
This was VERY VERY cool. My family and I (all choir singers) read the hobbit and LOTR together as a family and made an audiobook of it when I was a kid, and Mom composed music to go with all of the songs, including the ones you all sing here! It is interesting to hear them sung to a different tune than the one I have set in my head years ago by my mom, haha! Great job guys, I think Tolkien would be proud :) (I actually do some LARPing and always go as an elven bard, and most of my songs come from Tolkien's books! The Merry Old Inn song is a favorite)
It really is one of the best. Well, they're all the best, but it's still amazing. It's not in the books, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Tom Bombadil poem that Tolkien recitied and recorded. Give it a listen if you haven't already.
that is so cool... I loved reading to wife and kids, and getting all the voices, but ya just can't do the music right.... tis was awesome, and I listen every weekend.
He has a music video called "I ****ing love science" (there's a no-swear version too). It is fantastic. Oh and there's "having a bad day on chat roulette". And a bunch of others, he used to sing more, especially in vlogbrothers videos.
My kids have officially asked me to stop playing this song... The quote of the night is "Oh Mom, not that Peter Hollens song again!?! Can we listen to other ones, please?" Needless to say, HUGE LOTR fan and love the album you did of those songs. 😄🎶
Playing a bard in dnd session. Laying bitches and slaying witches id assume, or was it laying witches and slaying bitches. Always get the two confused.
In June 2024 now, this brings back such fun memories of listening to Peter Holland in high school, and watching Hank Green’s crash course chemistry to get me THROUGH high school, and then discovering this amazing crossover of both of them and squealing in 17-year-old delight 😂
You and Lindsey Stirling were really my introduction to TH-cam musicians. I've followed you both quite closely since then, and in addition to your talent, I'd like to pay you some thanks for introducing me to so many other talented TH-camrs that I never would have known about otherwise.

With the exception of That's what Bilbo Baggon hates , the rest of the songs are from lord of the rings, that last one was only in the book though, it was in the first one back when the hobbits were setting out from the Shire and they were at the Prancing pony.

Peter Hollens has done so many collaborations with so many people who aren't singers, it makes me think he can make anyone sound good with a little instruction and by singing with them.
Great music again. Man I have read that comment about self-promotion etc. As I said before, you almost every time answer my comments, you upload pretty often and consistently and you listen to your fans and their suggestions. Not mentioning that your music is brilliant. This guy who complained about your video here actually inspired me to buy your album right now to support you. I am just a student so I can't give you much except the support here in comments and buying album sometimes but if everyone does this, even buys one song instead of hating then there would be no need for self-promotion. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to your album to arrive :-)
I watch this several times on loop every time YT serves it to me. And I still love that while P&H mostly wore dark and muted neutrals, there’s the one Hank in the bright red Pizza John hoodie at the pool table. Makes me happy every time.
These videos must be so hard to make! I just realized that there are only two guys in this entire video! I thought there were, at the minimum, at least four! It's incredible!
I love looking at the comments to see where people know Hank from. Tiktok, Sci Show, Crash Course? Welcome! If you are wondering what Hank is doing here, he's here because he does all the things. All of them. You may not know it yet but you are a nerdfighter. Nerdfighteria is a glorious place where we get to witness Hank in all his talent and insanity. The secret headquarters are at the Vlogbrothers channel. Come on in, the water's fine.
Oh man, welcome to a magical new world of Hank Green's singing! He's got a ton of songs and albums. My personal favorite is "A Song About An Anglerfish" Highly reccoment. :D
I personally recommend "looking for alaska" from hank green, even if it's not his usual jam. It's on the first album or in the small part of the album he uploaded on youtube ("So Jokes")
"But you've gotta survive coz you've gotta survive". Thats the only reason im still breathing and i have a wife and 3 kids who need me and ive been so close to checking out so often ive lost count

And up and down he saws his bow,
Now squeaking high, now purring low,
Now sawing in the middle.
So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
a jig that would wake the dead:
He squeaked and sawed and he quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
'It's after three!' he said.
Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle;
the dog began to roar,
The cow and the horses stood on their heads;

FortCastellan the “blunt the knives comes from a song in the Hobbit called “That’s what Bible Baggins Hates”
@@alexgreen695 i just call it the "destroy literally anything valuable in sight and very likely ruin a person's day" song
leo zheng that’s pretty accurate as well😂
Absolutely love this song... But who knew that Hank Green could sing?!?!?! I mean sure he and his family are epic but singing??! xD
Hank's been singing regularly on the vlogbrothers channel since... the channel existed. For example, search for Accio Deathly Hallows, The Man who Throws the Tetris Piece, or Mother Pheasant Plucker.
Well, guess I haven't seen enough of his videos. Gonna have to go watch some more
Ethan Jones And he has a band: Hank Green and the Perfect Strangers.
Hank also has several albums
To be honest...I'm still in a shock after this video...
Why didn't I watch this earlier
AHHH HANK GREEN, THE HOBBIT, AND BEAUTIFUL SINGING IS THE LITERALLY PERFECT!! THIS MADE MY DAY!!!
Thanks so much!! :D
I was standing in the kitchen drinking a beer and trying to remember the Green Dragon song….and I found you. Glorious
Do you have the recording avaliable on TH-cam? I'd love to hear it!
It really is one of the best. Well, they're all the best, but it's still amazing. It's not in the books, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Tom Bombadil poem that Tolkien recitied and recorded. Give it a listen if you haven't already.
Have you published your songs? it would be lovely to hear them! *-*
that is so cool... I loved reading to wife and kids, and getting all the voices, but ya just can't do the music right.... tis was awesome, and I listen every weekend.
Adding my plea for a recording of the tunes you grew up with! :)
I can't believe you did a collab with HANK GREEN!!
How did I just get this recommendation?!
I freaking loved this tune in the movie and this is absolutely amazing!
Officially Lost thanks for keeping it family friendly pg clean
Been watching Hank for years, he actually lives pretty close to me, had no idea he could sing
He has a music video called "I ****ing love science" (there's a no-swear version too). It is fantastic. Oh and there's "having a bad day on chat roulette". And a bunch of others, he used to sing more, especially in vlogbrothers videos.
Quinian's Budget Crafts he does?! What?!
I live in Missoula. I was actually going to the bar that day and couldn't get in because of the filming.
This is the most Missoula thing.
I've considered asking my brother if he recognizes this place...do you know the name of it?
@@AylaMarine the Badlander
Thank you!
Peter Hollens, Pentatonix and Home free all released a video on the same day! tell me thats a coincidence!
No, it's awesome!
This never fails to make me smile. Wish people just burst out in songs like these at bars. I would love being a part of that!
This is the content creator crossover I didn't know I needed.
The harmony at 0:20 is what I LIVE FOR!!!!! if I could just loop that one part, I would lol.
True ! The bass vocal harmonies are perfect ^^ !! (and I'm looping this part as well...)
My kids have officially asked me to stop playing this song... The quote of the night is "Oh Mom, not that Peter Hollens song again!?! Can we listen to other ones, please?" Needless to say, HUGE LOTR fan and love the album you did of those songs. 😄🎶
oh, and here from the community. :) 👍
I have begun to sing this constantly throughout my day, everybody is telling me to stop but I just cant... h e l p
my kids love it.... but ya, gotta mix up a little bit...
My gf said the same thing😅 I'm trying to mix it up but it's so good!
You would love the song that he did with Tim Foust if you haven't already heard it. And because of that song I'm now hooked on home free.
These Deep voices at 0:20 just give me goosebumps 😍😍
Always come back to this as my love for Hank grows and grows
At first I thought "man a lot of people look like Hank and Peter"
Then there were four
And five
and six
And endless Hanks and Peters
Thank Hank you did something with Hank Green the is amazing
This comment wins the Internet!
This is the amazing!
Another good one as always.
Oh and hi Hank!!! :D
Yep! Hi, Hank! :D
Bought this on iTunes over a year ago and I still think this is THE most played song in my 2k+ playlist!!
That Pizza John sweatshirt, though
haha yas!!
what is my crash course teacher doing singing like a nerd
Being a nerd.
Playing a bard in dnd session. Laying bitches and slaying witches id assume, or was it laying witches and slaying bitches. Always get the two confused.
Hank has always been a nerd. #Nerdfightaria
@@karmaakabane2814 Love the reference.
Peter please do a cover of any song from Hamilton the musical. That'd be amazing. And thank you for the great videos, keep it up.
I just saw your wife did "Burn" but still hearing something like "Dear Theodosia" would make my day. Or something like "Say no to This" with your wife
hamilton would be cool
I would love to hear Acapella What did I Miss
He actually said on twitter that he's releasing a medley on September 13th
+ConnerMac life is good
In June 2024 now, this brings back such fun memories of listening to Peter Holland in high school, and watching Hank Green’s crash course chemistry to get me THROUGH high school, and then discovering this amazing crossover of both of them and squealing in 17-year-old delight 😂
Do the theme from _Firefly_, "The Ballad of Serenity"!!!!
Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand…
_YES!_
*gasp* That would be awesome!
Yes.
Gods yes!!!!! That would be awesome.
I don't think I can enjoy anything else until that happens
Girl: “he’s probably out cheating on me”
Guy:
I was wondering if there would be a video for this! I love it so much! Two of my favorite people on TH-cam working together!
Yay! Thank you :D
You and Lindsey Stirling were really my introduction to TH-cam musicians. I've followed you both quite closely since then, and in addition to your talent, I'd like to pay you some thanks for introducing me to so many other talented TH-camrs that I never would have known about otherwise.
Hank green ended up being my teacher without em knowing hahaha my teach used lots of his videos and this song was my first introduction to Hank. Made learning from him alot easier for whichever reason. Happy hes cancer free for now 😊 my classmates were pulling for em. Thanks for the song and your teachings.
I got honours by the way. Thanks Hank Green. I'm not a great natural student so I'm in your debt for those grades and how you can convey information
Any true Lord of the Rings fan should watch this video! Brilliant work!
except this is from the hobbit
rexxed757 some of this was in lord of the rings.... Not all of it was just in the hobbit.
I couldn't agree with you more.
With the exception of That's what Bilbo Baggon hates , the rest of the songs are from lord of the rings, that last one was only in the book though, it was in the first one back when the hobbits were setting out from the Shire and they were at the Prancing pony.
rexxed757 rexxed757 any true lotr fan would know some of this is from lotr.
The first song and last are Lotr. The bilbo song is hobbit.
I would give my left arm to go to a pub filled with Peter Hollenses and Hank Greens
Oh you can search far and wide,
You can look the whole youtube
But you'll never find a cover so fine
(But you'll never find a cover so fine)
As the one we're listening right now,
(As the one we're listening right now)
You can hear their fancy remix
You can listen them by the speakers
But the only cover for the brave and true...
..Comes from Peter Hollens!!
Peter can't.make it until Weird Al Yankovic parodies him.
That... Doesn't remotely rhyme tho. xD
Peter Hollens has done so many collaborations with so many people who aren't singers, it makes me think he can make anyone sound good with a little instruction and by singing with them.
my cheeks hurt from smiling so much, anyone else having this problem?
jonnie Vasquez me
jonnie Vasquez yes
jonnie Vasquez every song he does.
Same
That sounds like the opposite of a problem.
Looking forward to your album to arrive :-)
wow! Thank you so much, really appreciate you sharing that, means a lot :)
Does anyone else notice Peter in the white shirt, drunk? Hank gives him the funniest look. xD
Because at 1:10 he starts to dump the beer! That's Hanks's don't waste beer look.
ent0m0l0gist 😂 😂😂
How have I not seen this before after watching the movie green dragon vid so many times? this is OUTSTANDING
This will never get old. Anyone else trying to learn the song
Me
Done. **Equips bard class** DND tavern here I come...
Ha learnt let's say I like to play bard so this is something I might experiment with
Me, but I can't sing
@@Phoenix-jf7kt neather can i but hey.
Let's take a minute to appreciate the editor and their 200hrs of masking all these guys together!
I didn't know I needed this until I heard this masterpiece it's amazing
I watch this several times on loop every time YT serves it to me. And I still love that while P&H mostly wore dark and muted neutrals, there’s the one Hank in the bright red Pizza John hoodie at the pool table. Makes me happy every time.
These videos must be so hard to make! I just realized that there are only two guys in this entire video! I thought there were, at the minimum, at least four! It's incredible!
Hank can sing damn this guys a genius and talented.
I NEED a one hour version of this!
Just put it on loop.
Hank Green??? Hank Green! I've heard it all now! :)
Peter, you find the BEST people! :)
Aragorn's coronation left for another video and it will be perfect *.*
Just came from Vlogbrothers. This is Awesome!

Thank you Tara! :D
So honored to have you come check it out!! NERDFIGHTERS FTW!!!!! Hank & John are the best!!!!
+Peter Hollens You're amazing. Dftba :)
I wish they did things like this in real life . that would be so cool to have a bar do this
Irish pubs my fellow... Irish pubs.
they are called Flash mobs, I recommend you to see some, they are pretty cool, not as much as this piece of art but its gonna amaze you for sure
And you can do this yourself. Get about 6 or more people together, learn a song and go ahead.
Two years ago, but it still caught me off guard to find these two guys do a medley together. Epic.
today I learned that hank can sing
Oh man, welcome to a magical new world of Hank Green's singing! He's got a ton of songs and albums. My personal favorite is "A Song About An Anglerfish" Highly reccoment. :D
His songs are very fabulous
Yeah, I love Anglerfish. My top three are Accio Deathly hallows, Anglerfish, and This is Not Harry Potter
The Anglerfish Song was my introduction to the wonderful world of the VlogBrothers
I personally recommend "looking for alaska" from hank green, even if it's not his usual jam. It's on the first album or in the small part of the album he uploaded on youtube ("So Jokes")
2018 (me): Starts getting interested in LOTR
2018 (YT): Nah
2019 (YT): yeah
2019 (me): Playlist loops song for 1 hour
Boy you are late to the party. No shame in it really, I mean better late than never.
Can I get that
Can I get my hand on that
"But you've gotta survive coz you've gotta survive". Thats the only reason im still breathing and i have a wife and 3 kids who need me and ive been so close to checking out so often ive lost count
I can't imagine the editing that went into this. I don't drink but this was extremely catchy and enjoyable to watch. Great job men!
Imagine being so famously persnickety that there's an entire song about how you do your dishes.
The harmonies in this are stunning. Particularly at 0:25 1:01 and 2:30.
The TH-cam algorithm has me pretty well figured out, I guess. Hank Green singing Hobbit songs falls very near the middle of a Venn Diagram I didn't know existed, but am very happy to find.
"He's Got To Be The Finest Bard I Have Ever Seen"
"So It Would Seem"
Every pub will be singing this once we're all out of quarantine
Any chance we can get a full version of The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late?
I second that!
Jovem Neto I third that
Jovem Neto also "The Song of Tom Bambadil" would be wonderful too
Seconded! Love the Song of Tom Bombadil!
I 4th
I listen to this on repeat while I'm writing fantasy! I just love Peter's arrangements! What a divine person!
