    I’ve just placed my order for this 4080 model as Lenovo seem to have really nailed the performance and cooling, benchmarks show it even beats out some 4090 units from other high end manufacturers because the 4090 in those chassis is having to thermal throttle so much. The 4080 seems to be the sweet spot this generation for price to performance ratio. Also by removing non-crucial “extras” like fingerprint reader, windows hello, some metal, they’ve kept prices down from the insane prices we’re currently seeing and they’ve passed this saving on to the consumer and I managed to get this unit direct from Lenovo for £1,000 less than the equivalent spec’d unit (gpu, cpu, ram, ssd) from Razer or Asus for example.

    Can you expand storage (replace existing 2280 slot and add to a second one)? Also is the RAM upgradable? Users would save a couple hundred dollars by going with the base model (16GB DDR5 RAM and 512GB SSD). These are the questions a consumer should be asking up and above performance and thermals. Also, what TDP is the RTX 40 series cards running at?

    • @slovelissimo
      @slovelissimo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course you can.
      Officially it's 2 slots supporting m.2 up to 2TB each.
      2 RAM slots allow to install 64 GB of RAM but it is not confirmed (at least I didn't found this config.Mine is 32GB).
      So cheaper version is a win - you can upgrade when you'll need it.

These days manufacturers are using AI collect all sort of thermal, clock and power information. Very likely they will find out and people would void the warranty if causes damage to the hardware lol I just did it once to do time spy. 140W type-C charging! You can't just gloss over that; it's a long-awaited generational leap. This must be compliant with the new USB PD 3.1 spec, meaning you'll need a charger that puts out 28V. With 140W I would like to see full power limit to the CPU and GPU (allowing battery drain), though this means design decisions like maybe a user-facing option to toggle and ensuring power circuitry can handle it. Even the beefiest gaming laptops don't usually use much more than 200W average in games.
    The most exciting part would be the option to swap the massive power brick for a smaller charger, without ever looking back. The question is what Lenovo decided to do with the CPU and GPU power limits.
    And to Lenovo and Microsoft, well, it's nice you've sponsored Mr. Chap but no one cares about your shoehorned "AI" features or streaming apps.

    I found a solid price on this thing for $3k Canadian (then I get a corporate discount), for the 4070 model, which I'm thinking of going for. The design is exactly what I want. Display is about the same quality as the razer 4070 16" model I was looking at, but $1k+ less (canadian) and it's the same all metal design concept as Razer. Plus from what I gather, the thermals may be a bit better. Just curious, how's the audio quality on this one?

    • @al_stand_3959
      @al_stand_3959 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah for the specs and knowing that they perform at max TGP, they are the cheapest laptops even with the mid-high end parts in Canada.
      I bough the 4080 model and every others cost at least $500 to $1500 higher.
      I think there was a Gigabyte 4080 model for $3k but with 16gb ram, 1080p screen weaker CPU.

      @@tanishdhankhar2896 The price I'm seeing the legion pro 7i gen 8 at is about $2100-$2200 right now, so it's at a solid price point for the specs. The extra cores will be useful for VMs which I use regularly both for work and for study, hence why I like the new gen intel HX chips. The last gen model is just about the same price as the current gen model, as well.

      @mikerahl123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm converting Cdn to USD for comparison. I can get the Legion pro 7i gen 8 with 4070 for $2749 Canadian. I can get the 3070-ti model legion 7 gen 7 for $2599, so minimal difference.

    I'm still jamming an Asus Rog G752 from like 2015, GTX970m with the blistering i7-4910 haha... I'm finally going to upgrade just because I'm digging the 40 series and my back is getting old... The damn thing is HEAVY!!!! I've traveled all over the world with it. The laptop plus the PSU (that's literally the size of a brick!) are back breakers. Not to mention it took me forever just to find a bag the behemoth would fit in. I still think I get decent performance out of it, but I also think I've been lying to myself for a long time about it haha I'm a tech so I keep it tip-top, but there's only so much you can do. I'm pretty sold on this Lenovo. It'll last me 15 years at least!

    0:20. You're telling me, that nvidia have crammed a proper desktop rtx 4090 with all its 16k cuda cores and 24gb of vram into this laptop and has ''slightly lower clocks''? Dude. You're a liar. Outright lying at this point.
    Its just a downclocked rtx 4080. That too with slower vram. This is completely different to pascal and turing where the xx80 class at full power performed close to desktops.
    Go do some research before severely misleading people. Unless you're just a marketing guy pretending to make reviews.

    • @siyzerix
      @siyzerix ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thetechchap Well, pulling out a rtx 4090 implies the laptop version is just a 4090 desktop chip, just with a lowered TDP. ''Lower power'' implies that.
      There should be no connection whatsoever between the rtx 4090 desktop and ''rtx 4090'' laptop since the laptop one is just a gimped rtx 4080 desktop with slower vram.
