I love how a TH-camr named Zackary Smigel and some guy on Twitter said the next era could be the “authenticity era” because people are just tired of optimized, hyperedited, manufactured content and crave for authentic content made by people who are unapologetically being themselves. And of course, just as we predicted, now all of these spineless, passionless hustle culture bros are jumping ship and calling it “the new strategy”. We’ll then see massive corporations create vlog style TH-cam videos with their presenters holding their mics a la independent TH-camrs, while their script and editing are done underpaid employees.

We're already seeing it! There's an interesting video essay done on "why TH-camrs hold their mics" and it features a couple companies that are already doing this.
I'm all in on supporting authentic small channels, but this microphone holding fad needs to end.
They already are, when the kardashians are trying to be relatable we know there’s a problem. Big brands are posing as small one person owned businesses and content farms are trying to portray themselves as one person in their room.

I love (This is sarcasm) how Hbomberguy puts out a 4 hour long video on plagiarism and the issue becomes semi-mainstream (Considering there were news articles on the subject) because people are now being explicitly told about the issue that has been here since TH-cam really began.
Skip about a month, and nobody seems to care anymore and people continue to plagiarize other videos so blatantly it's not even funny.

He thinks kids have low buying power BECAUSE they have short attention spans? Or he's just like, saying stuff without even understanding the idea of what he's repeating.
the original guy's point was just that A. children don't have total control of money - they can't decide when to spend money, how much to spend, or what to spend it on; and B. because they're viewers with shorter attention spans, they're more likely to click away from your video unless you keep their attention. you need the viewer to watch the whole video, engage with the content, and sit through ads. that's how you make money as a youtuber. hence mr beast or morgz spending their whole videos hooting and hollering.

but he ended up taking the video down because he felt people _were_ harassing her. when somebody is inundated with comments - even if the comments aren't harassing in nature - the result is that the person is being harassed in practice. individually, the comments weren't harassment, but two thousand of those comments might not be necessary.
having said that, i still think that inundation is earned in this case. rather than closing the comments he should have taken down the video. because he stole it.

i don't think this was petty at all. It's actually just unfortunate to be wondering, in the back of my mind, if or how many of the videos i watch are ripped off someone else i should actually be watching, or that i would possibly enjoy watching more. (edit: i mean, i was already wondering that after hbomberguy, but this is a great refresher on it)

The coward paused comments, edited out the intro and you can no longer see the like to dislike ratio. This is why youtube shouldn't be trying to phase out feedback, it allows people to unwittingly support stuff like plagiarism and bullying. Open feedback is important but all youtube is concerned about is how creators might feel. They can see the dislikes anyway! It just lets bad youtubers control their 'image'. You shouldn't be able to stop comments or hide dislikes.
i think they should be able to pause comments - other users who might genuinely be receiving a lot of harassment or trolls on a particular video shouldn't be punished just because beta cucks like this plagiarist hide behind the feature.
but i do agree that the changes to users' ability to vet content is entirely an image thing. i've always hated that change.

They're not copying because they like the video or because they want to be youtubers. The reason it's shot for shot and line for line is because they think most youtubers are suckers for focusing more on scripting and planning shots than on maximizing the monetization. They're not interested in watching TH-cam videos or making videos to connect with an audience, they're just here to make money, they just work here.
There is a trend in the three examples shown that makes me incredibly uncomfortable… really hope he’s lifted from creators in his same demographic because otherwise the copying isn’t the worst thing about him. The irony of him discussing authenticity lol.

You're trying to market yourself as a TH-cam guru who can help people grow their channel, you're not a guru and you can't help people grow their channels. You're lying to people and to yourself in order to get views on a second channel in hopes that it goes viral but it never will because you made the mistake of trying to become a TH-cam guru - and they all have the exact same videos, all 1k+ of them, you're trying to mirror them while you were stealing content from others to make yourself look like some kind of editing genius for marketing. I've never heard of you until I saw this video but I have no interest of ever checking out either of your channels now because of it. There's a difference between "Hey I fully admit I fucked up, I'm sorry about that, from here on out I will be doing things differently" and "Hey, I'm going to quietly turn off comments to my videos because I'm getting a lot of abusive comments from people. I'm not going to address the fact that I fucked up except for in comments on the video exposing me days after the video had been posted". You could have addressed the situation, turned off comments and informed the people that you were contacting everyone you copied and were apologizing. There is so much that you could have done but you didn't because you want to pretend this never happened, but it did happen and it's on the internet forever now. You should have gotten out in front of it, admitted you messed up and just took it, but you seem incapable of doing just that. Also you have very low view counts on your videos meaning your clickbait thumbnails aren't working as well and TH-cam is pushing you away from the algorithm, which is something people who understand TH-cam far better than you do have been explaining for years.

He just paused all comments on his second channel. What’s crazier too is that he’s very clearly buying subscribers on his main channel. His most recent video has 7k views in 6 days with 1.3 million subs? That just doesn’t add up. And if you read the comments on any video there’s a lot of obvious bot comments.

Your intro evokes an emotional reaction. It's a hook to keep the viewer watching. His reminds me of those people who steal viral videos and put their reaction in. It's so similar to your intro that it's void of substance.

he even falls into the trap that hbomberguy pointed out a lot in his video, where he tries to change up the words to make them sound different, and ends up saying something that doesn’t make any sense.
at 10:55, he rewords a sentence about a correlation between attention span, age, and spending power, and accidentally says that younger people have “[…] a shorter attention span, and *therefore* less buying power,” which is a type of error that he probably wouldn’t have made if he was writing about a conclusion he had come to himself, as opposed to rewording someone else’s script.
Just in case you guys get some bad ideas after seeing this: Oscar may be a horrendous thief, but he is also a human. Look, but don't touch.
Honestly this is just disappointing to see. The TH-cam growth/strategy/advise space does have some really great thought leaders and people who haven't got a course tied to every tweet, but most are either drowned out by gurus and ex-dropshipping coaches or choose to stay quieter and converse with creators elsewhere.
The space had really only just started to flourish around 2020 when a new wave of younger well-informed, and experienced creators started teaching what they knew, but it's so quickly become clouded by people who have no idea what they're talking about or just parrot the information of far more established sources.

I'm more surprised about how many TH-camrs use the Risk of Rain soundtrack suddenly.
the point about how "fast editing isn't necessarily inauthentic" made me think about pointcrow and alpharad off the bat, two youtubers with relatively fast-paced and upbeat editing compared to a lot of the other youtubers I watch. their videos being quick and heavily edited doesn't prevent them from being authentic, because I can see so much how they often enjoy what they're doing. seeing that someone is passionate about what they're doing or even just enjoying themselves does so much work than the literal style of the video
but if you're always stealing other people's work you can't be authentic! it is inherently inauthentic to present someone else's words or art as your own, let alone how disrespectful it is to do something like that. you'll never be truly passionate about something you've stolen, you won't look happy doing something that exists purely for manipulating the algorithm - so they have to turn authentic into an editing style to use it at all
