Our school had exactly one copy of "How to Win at Nintendo Games" and kids got hurt trying to be the first to grab it. One kid got sick one day and was told to sit in the library while he waited for his parents to come get him, so he photocopied a whole bunch of pages from the book and sold them for $1 piece. He made like $100, it would have been more except he kept having to go puke.
Buddy, I used to read "The Scrambled States Of America" or another book that has pictures in it. Or heck, one of my favorites being encyclopedias that cover that specific year say 1965 and such.
i stopped liking those books after a mean boy i hated in in 3rd grade told me about his world records, my logic back then was ‘if he could get one, it doesn’t matter’
Two things: If a third grade boy can get a world record, it can't be particularly important (or it's ridiculously hard and we're all wondering how they did it, there is no middle) And also, when I changed schools in 4th grade (don't send your kids to religious schools) one of the first things I read was a story of a 7 year old girl setting a record* for youngest pilot. At the time I was annoyed that I was already too old, and then later I began wondering about the legality of a 7 year old flying an airplane. Oh... I just looked it up for details. Turns out I made out alright. She did not set the record. Or do anything else for that matter. It was promoted as a record setting attempt, but the beer company discontinued Youngest Pilot 7 years prior for similar reasons to this crash. (and it's not real anyway) (Min age 16 for medical cert, 17 for licensing)
Honestly, the most surprising thing about the the Guinness and its relationship with Turkmenistan is that out of all of the records set in or by Turkmenistan, only one of them - fastest 10m by a horse on hind legs (4.19 seconds) - involves Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and a horse. The guy owns over 600 horses with those horses specifically being Akhal-Tekes; a breed of horse that Berdimuhamedow owns around 10% of. He's also gifted Akhal-Tekes to multiple other world leaders, written poetry and multiple books about Akhal-Tekes, and has instructed officials to do extra checks on journalists at the airport he fell off a horse during an event in an attempt to ensure no one could see him fall of the horse. The fact there is _only one_ world record involving him and horses is genuinely unbelievable.

When I learned that Guiness World Records and Michelin stars were related to Michelin tires and Guiness beer, I stopped thinking of them as some official bodies or infallible organizations.

The same goes for Michelin stars. They ARE a recognized and respected organization, whether you like it or not that their parent company makes some of the best tires on the market lmao...
Ok, so my friends and I actually hold a Guinness's Record, we got it with certain institution and apparently it was so expensive that the CEO of the umbrella company who owns this institution almost fired his right hand man for allowing this thing to happen... It was a mayor issue. Worst thing is that that institution kept the plaque and we only have a picture with it to show off... Kinda shitty since we did all the hard work and they only put the facilities for it.
My best friend in college invited me over to his place to watch the 24hr Pharrell "Happy" marathon with him. We started off smoking, dancing, and trying to come up with choreography. By hour 4 his roommates were home. We all got drunk together and smashed their TV. I haven't listened to that song since.
Can you do a video essay on the history of Michelin, the tire company that also ranks restaurants. I know it’s been fairly covered but I hope you could add to it.
what started as a way to settle bar bets morphed into flashy picture books for children and illiterates then further devolved into a pay-to-play PR service. the 1976 edition is iconic; it’s been all downhill ever since.
damn, that video game edition book looks really interesting, now I can't help but wonder who the person who has worked on the most video games in their lifetime is 🤨
pinely I have a story to add so where I live we broke the world record for largest key lime pie ever but turns out after all the resources we’re got to make it several grand in stuff they wanted several grand to fly them out and pay for all the amenities plus the plaque didn’t come free with it so we ended up doing all the stuff ourselves it technically beats the current record since we got it all verified for less then 100$ but it will never be put in the book

Then you’ve fallen for a dumb fallacy. Just because Guinness World Records was birthed out of a beer company doesn’t mean that today they are incapable of listing some world records.
Orr says he doesn’t have the budget for the record application but he does have the budget to hire Evil Pinely? Suspicious
My best friend in college invited me over to his place to watch the 24hr Pharrell "Happy" marathon with him. We started off smoking, dancing, and trying to come up with choreography. By hour 4 his roommates were home. We all got drunk together and smashed their TV. I haven't listened to that song since.
I didn't realize the books had "color".. I remember them being almost entirely text with a few black and white photos. (In the early 90's)
20:50 wtf since when does Evil Pinely wear such super sweet shades?!
Trying to be the best at something always brings out the worst, most selfish parts of people.
OH SO THIS IS WHAT WAS BEHIND THE CARDBOARD BOX LMFAO
omg pinely, i didn’t know you knew evil pinely😦😦
Can you do a video essay on the history of Michelin, the tire company that also ranks restaurants. I know it’s been fairly covered but I hope you could add to it.
what started as a way to settle bar bets morphed into flashy picture books for children and illiterates then further devolved into a pay-to-play PR service. the 1976 edition is iconic; it’s been all downhill ever since.
damn, that video game edition book looks really interesting, now I can't help but wonder who the person who has worked on the most video games in their lifetime is 🤨
whoever they are, i bet their mother is very proud
pinely I have a story to add
so where I live we broke the world record for largest key lime pie ever but turns out after all the resources we’re got to make it several grand in stuff they wanted several grand to fly them out and pay for all the amenities plus the plaque didn’t come free with it so we ended up doing all the stuff ourselves it technically beats the current record since we got it all verified for less then 100$ but it will never be put in the book
The 2006 GWW book had such a chokehold on my childhood
Ah finally, can see what's behind the cardboard
I found out certain records can cost way more and require a sponsor to even get “considered” for their books. I am too poor to even get priority fee
loved to see you and evil pinely collab
Thank you Tommy Tallarico for making this video
that was funny
His mother is very proud
that’s actually insane how much they want money and will do anything for it 💀
The backgrounds are incredible. What an aesthetic!
The intro seemed like a Wes Anderson movie 😂
Pinely's new house looks so nice
Dawg seeing those 2006-8 edition Guinness world record book brought me right back too the school library in elementary school😭
