Metagirlfriends are just the free to play dress-up games. Except you can never dress her up in other outfits, so...... worse than something that exists for free.
I mean.... There seems to me a genuine sex work aspect with real models being involved too. Despite what Kurtis said.... They probably are getting private chats with that one girl. Paid, private sexting is both common and legal. It's like the restaurant where people are taking a service that already exists and throwing nfts in for no reason.
Also, how does "randomly generated" sound appealing? There's no personalization in it to ensure everything is coherent, it's just RNG on what you'll get (or what they look like).
What offends me the most with NFTs is that people are willing to pay more for a drawing that is randomly generated from an AI and isn’t even unique (same pose, reused assets, unpleasant aesthetic) but will get angry when an artist asks for 20$ to make a fully custom art piece that is unique to them and made by an actual person who knows how to put elements together in a pleasing way.
this! i genuinely cannot understand why people are paying millions of dollars for art that was literally generated at random, but then freak out when an artist who put actual time and effort into creating a unique piece asks for money. also, a lot of artists need that money to pay for like… basic needs. the money people are paying for nfts is, in a lot of cases, going to already rich companies

The fact that there is such a thing as Meta girlfriends, but (apparently) not Meta boyfriends, really says everything you need to know about this NFT movement.
The idea that someone would spend millions of dollars on some ugly Picrew knockoff monkey when they could just use a bit of money to buy themselves Kurtis Conner merch is heartbreaking.
they would, that is what pisses me off why not pay a talented artist to draw them unique and amazing art, but instead they buy those ugly computer generated images, I simply don't understand
The worst part about the whole "bored ape club " is that they are just generated images...... Like they are not unique neither aesthetically pleasant.. Is just a get rich scam and seeing celebrities take part on it ...ouch
ikr? it´d at least be kinda worth it (apart from the technical stuff at least) if the art was personal and each one made by a person instead of just random gen.
The term meta verse was originally used in a dystopian book about there being a better world that you could use to escape from the real world but then it just became the same place that you wanted to escape from. So the idea of paying for a house in the meta verse with real money honestly makes sense
"each of these meta girlfriends has a unique personality, like wearing a pastel pink hoodie and a thong while sneering! a personality *is* what a person looks like, right??"
Then they put some bullshit description of their "personalities" and it's basically the same sentence, like Mad Libs "insert personality trait here" "insert favorite food here" then hate real women for having opinions
yeah they make these pathetic little ornaments that kinda look like women because they hate actual real women. they desire our bodies but they don't want to treat us like human beings, metagirlfriends are a reflection of that
Someone tried to make an NFT dating app, and then it got cancelled because there weren't enough women on it. Glorious. Edit: I have been informed that this was a joke and didn't actually happen. However, i think it's actually even funnier that the entire internet heard that and went "yeah, that tracks."

As an artist, seeing people will pay thousands of dollars for a badly drawn NFT but not 60 for a personalized art commission breaks my heart and makes me cry more than them when they realize their JPEGs can be stolen
They are literally randomly computer generated and people are paying millions. But reL people actually making and creating real art struggle to make ends meet. 🙄
Apparently the applause in the Paris Hilton interview was added in post. Someone in the comment section of that interview said they were there and the audience was silent during that part.
I've never seen an NFT that wasn't a procedurally generated piece of trash. Like you can go to any artist with open commissions and they will draw whatever you want for a FRACTION of the cost of an NFT. An NFT is basically a Picrew but every time you create a character they burn down a part of the Amazon rain forest
I could literally hire an entire animation team to create a completely original character in an animated short and specify that that animation is mine for less than the price of one ridiculously priced art of an ugly monkey or a basic Picrew 'girlfriend' aimed at horny guys with too much to spend. Hell, I'm willing to bet that I'd be able to hire an entire animation studio to create a feature length film about my character for less than the price of an NFT collection. It's just mindboggling to me that people settle for less than mediocrity. EDIT: To the NFT bro comically missing the point below: yes, NFTs can have good art. It's still more environmentally friendly and supportive to artists to just commission them the normal way. Studio Ghibli films cost anywhere from 11 million to 34 million dollars to make. This is actually pricey in terms of animation already, but Ghibli created absolute classics that stand the test of time, and it didn't involve ruining the environment. Just imagine this: for the price of 24 NFTs valued at 1 million dollars each, you could have funded the making of Howl's Moving Castle. For the price of 19 similar NFTs, you could have funded Spirited Away. Just because you slap a piece of technology on some decent art does not mean it's worth a hefty price tag, especially if it's just a single fucking image that you don't even actually own.
It's because the cost comes from "minting" the NFT, which is taking x Ethereum, and binding it to the NFT token though proof of work. Aka They taped a 20$ bill to the back of a receipt that says you own this receipt and that's supposed to give it value, even though it takes away the use abd purpose it had beforehand.
As an artist i feel like NFTs as a concept are fundamentally not about art. This is about money and this is the most insane way capitalism has ever interacted with art. I even understand paying a zillion dollars for a solid blue painting with a line on it more than paying tens of thousands for a png. At least there's something to be said of owning art that is personal, customized, or tangible.
@@mkat8505 I would disagree to be honest, I feel like commissioning an art piece would be way more supportive of artists rather that paying for a randomized PNG. Also, with commissioned art, it can have value according to many factors such as skill and whoever drew it; with nfts it has nothing ‘special’ about it as most of the time they’re generated randomly. That’s my opinion- feel free to disagree,
@@sybo59 she said it's the MOST INSANE way capitalism has interacted with art, the popes and nobles of Italy (not to mention elsewhere) would regularly commission architects, artists and sculptors to work on churches or just flights of fancy. @@vincentadultman6226 Yes, but my point was more getting at the false dichotomy implied between good art and money, as if money was a corrupting influence. “It’s not real art bc there’s money involved!” I pointed out that idea is nonsense, which in no way defends NFTs. I hope that clarifies my stance.
“Your digital presence means more than your physical presence”. I feel sorry for that guy. His whole life is on a screen. We all spend too much time online. But that’s ridiculous.
This is like such a minor point but it's so weird when Fallon says "I got into this" and Hilton goes "I know. I got you into it." because they're.... supposed to pretend to be having a normal, impromptu conversation. We know they're not- they do rehearsals and stuff- but the idea behind a talk show is to avoid it looking like you just memorized a conversation. This is like telling your friend that watched a show with you to get you into it, that you're now into that show. Like, yeah, they know. They were there.
Those ape NFT's gotta be the most hilarious scam in history. Just multiple iterations of the same ugly piece of art. Whoever hyped those things up is the best salesman ever.
As an artist, NFT are just bad - people say that they want to support artists, that's why they spend so much on NFTs, yet they don't want to pay 20 buck for a full custom made artwork. If people really cared about artists, they would commission them or buy their gadgets; and if you can't afford to pay for stuff, you can always support them sharing their artworks and liking their post (especially with smaller artists like me this truly helps a lot). Overall this is just a big and more complicated pyramid scheme.
What an entitled person you are. You want people to pay you some arbitrary amount of money for work they demonstrably don’t value at that level, purely as some sort of charity meant to “support artists.” Which artists? You. Good god, how bleak.
@@jevilcore Yet you support price controls for things like apartment rent. Should the government force you to hold your prices lower than you like, so that more people can benefit from your work? If that happened, would you produce nor work or be more creative? No.

my issue with the meta girlfriends isn’t even that they’re not real, or that the dudes can’t get laid irl or whatever. to me the problem is the fact they view women that way in the first place…literal commodities? they want to buy “girlfriends”? they think buying the girlfriend means they can see her naked? no that is literally correct, they literally do view real women the same way. I’m an art student in college and me and my friends have had a lot of NFT bros from the school trying to get us to make NFT art for them and harassing us on social media. They kept spam emailing out entire art club during finals. They are offering little to no money, calling it an “investment opportunity” and even tried to have a NFT competition where you submit art, and only the “winner” gets paid. NFTs do not support artists, they are just another way people exploit artists for money.
I’ve commented this on a couple posts, but I think it would be useful in this thread as well! As an artist myself who is pursuing a degree in fine arts, NFTs can be incredibly useful for artists’ control of their works. Many times artists will sell a piece to someone for a cheaper price, but once the artist becomes popular, the person who bought the original work can resell it for up to 10 times the buying price. While it’s awesome that the artist’s work increases in value, they receive absolutely no percentage of that resell. In the fine art world, NFTs are becoming an incredibly effective way to control the percentage that the artist gets from every resell of that piece. Say they sold the original work for thousand dollars, and someone resells that for a million, they can decide on the royalties that they get off of that piece. While I get the ridiculousness of buying memes for a shit ton of money, there is definitely a benefit for artists if they are able to use the system correctly. My professor is actually doing research right now regarding the fine art market and the use of NFTs, and the stuff that she’s finding out is incredibly interesting and a value to people who want to make a career out of selling their art. Just thought it would be cool to share some of the benefits of NFTs! I know that the first time I ever heard of them I thought it was stupid, but after learning a little bit more about how they can actually benefit the art world, I think they’re pretty cool! You can definitely use NFTs on physical works as well, it just acts as sort of a title that a person owns, and that title gets transferred whenever they sell the piece!
@@ninadefendi how about try being ethical when it comes to putting your art out there without killing the planet even more??? it’s already dying and i, as a working class, don’t wanna contribute more to the environmental damage. i’m from an art school as well but i push everyone away from convincing me to join nfts to earn more money.....it does nothing to artists anyway because they steal other people’s art and/or take credit for it.

its so crazy because commissions exist. like you can get a custom drawing of almost anything you want, but sure, a randomized picture of an ape is good too
I think the comparison to Pokémon cards is still being generous to NFTs. you can get people inflating prices but if a card is expensive it's usually because it was a rare print and/or is a desirable one. more recent cards have been known to intentionally run short stock to inflate prices but even still they're physical items with meaning. NFTs are entirely not unique and their "rarity" is completely artificial while being completely destructible because you can screenshot and repost that image anywhere
Dan Olson from Folding Ideas made a fantastic two hour video about NFTs for anyone who wants to know more. The "rarity" is just as meaningless as it seems. A fantastic watch.

What really annoys me about the meta girlfriend NFTs is, that they are marketed as sexy even though they have the same art style as half of these hyper sexualized mobile game ads, that have nothing to do with the actual game. If you wanted to pay a lot of money for unique NSFW art, why not commission an artist. There are a lot of people who will draw stuff that’s way more appealing and you can actually tailor the artwork to your taste.
It’s just weird because it seems like they’re trying to play up the utility of the NFT itself (if you can call the ability to jerk off to something utility, which i feel like you can). And NFT’s just have no fucking utility. They never have, not even the utility of just being nice to look at. I mean, there’s nice art that’s been minted, but as evidenced by the fucking apes, the quality of the art is completely irrelevant. NFT’s literally just serve the purpose of indicating that you spent a shitload of actual money on theoretical money so that the galaxy brains who think that shit’s “the future” will invite you to their circle jerk. Like if NSFW NFT sellers actually wanted to compete with actual NSFW digital artists, they would never fucking be able to. The whole thing isn’t based on any functional product, it’s just based on hyping up cryptocurrency and block chains. They’ll never be able to compete with people who have actual functional products and when people like metagirfriends try to their product is just comically sad.
Yeah I don’t get it. Men have different tastes but EVERY SINGLE one of these NFT girlfriends looks the same, the body type and the face. You can commission an artist to draw you the “perfect” girlfriend and it would actually look decent, unlike this.
Literally I know of people who've spent house mortgages on furry art, and I personally will say that's more respectable than an NFTbro trying to grift on an environmental hazard.
their money is supporting artists more than nfts ever will. like damn if I’m gonna spend money I’d rather help out people rather than waste my money on a link of an environmentally-damaging ugly icon
If I get a comic commission of my furry OC zalithar, the conqueror of stars and sower of nations, getting hard vored by a Lesbian salazzle polycule, then not only did I get something I personally wanted, I also stimulated the economy by giving money to a laborer and value generator that will go out into the wider economy, brought something entirely original into the world, and brought a new form of enjoyment for multiple other people too. Meanwhile, spending that much on NFTs just gives that money to leeches who will hoard it all between themselves, and I get a worthless hyperlink that might not even work if the DMCA takedown notice goes through.
I feel like the worst thing about NFTs actually is the environmental impact. Yeah, they're weird, and pointless, and depressing, and creepy, and probably represent the beginning of the end for our lobotomite species, but all of that stuff would be just another horrendous internet trend if it weren't for the fact that every single fucking one of those things is killing the planet for no reason
i feel like people talk more about the other aspects as well to discourage people from nfts bc anytime anyone talks only about the environment aspects randos pop up talking about more eco friendly nfts while not actually addressing any of the other issues
I may be wrong but I think alot of celebrities are actually forced to talk about them because the people that contract them have ties to the nfts so they make the celebrities talk and buy them to artificially inflate the price of them
Eh, to me it just seems like another version of the whole waifu thing that happens in the anime community or one the 1000s of self insert fanfictions on the internet that are often times adult in nature, which is in my opnion not that bad you're not hurting anybody, there are always people who take it too far to the point that their appreciation of that character is an unhealthy obsession although that is not unique to this kind of content people will always find something to obsess over if they feel the need to. (Still don't like NFT's though)
The metaverse already exists...Roblox is one of the most popular & was launched 15 years ago. The definition of metaverse is “a space where users interact with computer-generated environments,” the internet alone can also be considered a metaverse to an extent...

The way that the artist for the bored apes (shes known as Allseeing Seneca) wasnt even compensated or credited for her work really proves how obsessed nfts are in fucking over artists
Wow, that’s so ironic. Nfts weren’t designed to benefit artists, they were designed for greedy people to make money off of art. The ape nfts are just about the least creative thing I’ve ever seen, and they all look the same. This isn’t doing anything for art or artists.
I agree and I hate how its marketed to artists as some digital thing made specifically for them. It's not. This is just like buying junk of Gaia online or Neopets that's limited. It has nothing to do with the art of the neopet-it's just the fact that its exclusive and rare. NFTs are just trying to bet on which Neopet everyone wants before they know the market. As all these rich people are showing-it has nothing to do with they actual artistic value of anything. The most popular ones have super simplistic designs and are marketable.

I love how almost all NFTs look like piccrew characters. Like especially the meta girlfriends and apes, its literally the same drawing with different pasted on accessories. probably 5 minutes of work goes into each one
@@fart63 Not advocating for the B.S. that is NFTs, but there is work put into the designs, and as someone deep into art and an aspiring artist, I feel it necessary to point that out. Each accessory and/or hat and/or all of the other shit that can be swapped in and out had to be created by (an) artist/s. I actually have seen someone point out one of the artists behind BAYC and how that person talked about how it's cool it wen famous, but the lack of credit kinda sucks. I don't think NFTs are AT ALL good, but they were created, so there is work put into them. At the very least to make them possible to mint. If anything, that makes it worse, because those artists don't get credit. Sorry to ramble, I just don't feel comfortable insuing that there's no work put into the art itself, and can't comfortably like ignore you saying that, I'm not trying to be hostile or anything, just kindly bring up the logistics of that part of it. Much like picrews, each piece does have to be designed, and usually there are a good few hundred different accessories, leading to at least thousands of combinations. So while the minting is effortless in regards to human effort, (it definitely does have work put into that part too, but that's on the strain of computers and cooling systems that drain electricity) the NFTs do have designs and work and effort put into them, and as much as I hate NFTs, ignoring that effort is only harmful to the people who took that time to create that shit.
@@kiralonely the art itself, yes, work went into it. But the actual nft as I said is a shameless (former) money hole, with absolutely no effort put in by the people selling it. Artists for years had commissions opened. Many artists struggle to have people pay them for their services (in concluding myself). Depending on the artists and what they're willing to draw you can have anything for you. When you buy that art you own it, though if you want to use it for commercial use you have to talk to the artist you buy from about that. A lot of artists are lower their prices to less than $20 just to get anyone to pay for their commissions even though their talent is worth more then their price tag. Then you have people buying these generic apes for more a $1000. NFTs are not helpful to the artist community, just commission an artist, you'll find one in your price range that draw what you want trust me.
This!! It feels much better when you know who’s behind the thing you buy. There’s a real person and you can talk to them. You can almost choose anything that should be in the art work you commissioned. NFTs are just sad.
It’s not really about art thought it’s a show of wealth really these people wouldn’t be buying real art anyway these are the people that pay millions for “art” and the people that are into Bitcoin coming together to throw their money away
I see NFTs as a positive for the art community. Its a new area that artist can monopolize on. The NFTs that most people know are the huge projects on OpenSea but other platforms cater more towards artists that make 1of1s. I think its gotten people a lot more invested into artists. depends on what part of the scene you follow.
"can we normalize being a fucking idiot?" yes because i have listened to countless explanations on nft's and i still don't really understand exactly how they work. i think i get it though. i think.

Try watching folding ideas video called "the problems witv nfts" its over two hours long and I had to watch it in multiple sittings but goddamn it's such a great explenation. I highly, highly recommend it.
Here’s my understanding: The blockchain is just a record of all the transactions that have happened. Each crypto currency has its own blockchain. The blockchains are backed up on many computers at once, so there’s no one “master” copy. Anyways, that’s why art associated with nfts are separate from the nfts. How things are written on the blockchain is way too inefficient. Large images can’t be put on the blockchain, but urls can be (and like really tiny pixel art images).
I fucking love NFTs. Sometimes I think I suck at art, and it makes me super depressed... but then I see some of the NFT art and it's a huge ego boost to know my art is often better than a good chunk of it
It’s like “I’m decent, but I’ll never be as bad as someone who steals others art and profits off of dead people’s work for profit that ended up never going anywhere and hurt artists and the environment even more!”

@@somrone9236 for real, these nft look like a crappy dress up game, with randomized character accessories.
I think a terrible thing too is that many artists have had their art stolen and sold as an NFT without compensation or permission

The best art ever created was commissioned art. “Whoa dude … like … capitalism and art, maaaan …” You are not smart.
@@mkat8505 I would disagree to be honest, I feel like commissioning an art piece would be way more supportive of artists rather that paying for a randomized PNG. @@tergelss Are you being paid for any of your work?
You can definitely use NFTs on physical works as well, it just acts as sort of a title that a person owns, and that title gets transferred whenever they sell the piece!

its so crazy because commissions exist. like you can get a custom drawing of almost anything you want, but sure, a randomized picture of an ape is good too
I think the comparison to Pokémon cards is still being generous to NFTs. you can get people inflating prices but if a card is expensive it's usually because it was a rare print and/or is a desirable one. more recent cards have been known to intentionally run short stock to inflate prices but even still they're physical items with meaning. NFTs are entirely not unique and their "rarity" is completely artificial while being completely destructible because you can screenshot and repost that image anywhere
Also, things like Pokémon cards are part of a game that you can play and compete with other people n such

There are a lot of people who will draw stuff that’s way more appealing and you can actually tailor the artwork to your taste.
its a pyramid scheme. the value of NFTs is purely hype to get suckers to buy them so the original "investors" can get payed out. It's MLM to a tee.

@@fart63 Not advocating for the B.S. that is NFTs, but there is work put into the designs, and as someone deep into art and an aspiring artist, I feel it necessary to point that out.
The “meta-girlfriends”, maybe someone slaved away creating the assets, but as you said art theft runs rampant and they likely didn’t receive the deserved compensation anyway. So I will still say no work went into the nft as it is. Buying an nft will not be supporting any artist that worked on the assets.
@@fart63 Oh, I certainly agree. I just wanted to clarify the art does deserve recognition of the work put in, even if the use is as assets for something with no human effort put in. (Poor computers slave away to mine that shit, but nft bros don't give a fuck about them. Or the environment.)

There's a function to NFTs. It's tricking people into funneling money straight into the pockets of already rich people
Artists for years had commissions opened.
That and also people stealing artist’s work and selling them as nfts
It’s not really about art thought it’s a show of wealth really these people wouldn’t be buying real art anyway these are the people that pay millions for “art” and the people that are into Bitcoin coming together to throw their money away
I see NFTs as a positive for the art community. Its a new area that artist can monopolize on. The NFTs that most people know are the huge projects on OpenSea but other platforms cater more towards artists that make 1of1s. I think its gotten people a lot more invested into artists. depends on what part of the scene you follow.

i get the gist of it. i think.
The way that NFTs work is that they don't. They just straight-up don't do the things that people say they do. It's a scam to make you buy crypto currency.
Try watching folding ideas video called "the problems witv nfts" its over two hours long and I had to watch it in multiple sittings but goddamn it's such a great explenation. I highly, highly recommend it.
theyre basically buying a unique link to an image that also destroys the environment to manufacture
