      I mean.... There seems to me a genuine sex work aspect with real models being involved too. Despite what Kurtis said.... They probably are getting private chats with that one girl. Paid, private sexting is both common and legal. It's like the restaurant where people are taking a service that already exists and throwing nfts in for no reason.

      Also, how does "randomly generated" sound appealing? There's no personalization in it to ensure everything is coherent, it's just RNG on what you'll get (or what they look like).

  • @fizzlyanimations6218
    @fizzlyanimations6218 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19699

    What offends me the most with NFTs is that people are willing to pay more for a drawing that is randomly generated from an AI and isn’t even unique (same pose, reused assets, unpleasant aesthetic) but will get angry when an artist asks for 20$ to make a fully custom art piece that is unique to them and made by an actual person who knows how to put elements together in a pleasing way.

      this! i genuinely cannot understand why people are paying millions of dollars for art that was literally generated at random, but then freak out when an artist who put actual time and effort into creating a unique piece asks for money. also, a lot of artists need that money to pay for like… basic needs. the money people are paying for nfts is, in a lot of cases, going to already rich companies

    I've never seen an NFT that wasn't a procedurally generated piece of trash. Like you can go to any artist with open commissions and they will draw whatever you want for a FRACTION of the cost of an NFT. An NFT is basically a Picrew but every time you create a character they burn down a part of the Amazon rain forest

    • @howareyoumoreofaclownthanme
      @howareyoumoreofaclownthanme 2 ปีที่แล้ว +230

      I could literally hire an entire animation team to create a completely original character in an animated short and specify that that animation is mine for less than the price of one ridiculously priced art of an ugly monkey or a basic Picrew 'girlfriend' aimed at horny guys with too much to spend. Hell, I'm willing to bet that I'd be able to hire an entire animation studio to create a feature length film about my character for less than the price of an NFT collection.
      It's just mindboggling to me that people settle for less than mediocrity.
      EDIT: To the NFT bro comically missing the point below: yes, NFTs can have good art. It's still more environmentally friendly and supportive to artists to just commission them the normal way. Studio Ghibli films cost anywhere from 11 million to 34 million dollars to make. This is actually pricey in terms of animation already, but Ghibli created absolute classics that stand the test of time, and it didn't involve ruining the environment. Just imagine this: for the price of 24 NFTs valued at 1 million dollars each, you could have funded the making of Howl's Moving Castle. For the price of 19 similar NFTs, you could have funded Spirited Away.
      Just because you slap a piece of technology on some decent art does not mean it's worth a hefty price tag, especially if it's just a single fucking image that you don't even actually own.

    • @entothechesnautknight1762
      @entothechesnautknight1762 2 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      It's because the cost comes from "minting" the NFT, which is taking x Ethereum, and binding it to the NFT token though proof of work.

      I’ve commented this on a couple posts, but I think it would be useful in this thread as well! As an artist myself who is pursuing a degree in fine arts, NFTs can be incredibly useful for artists’ control of their works. Many times artists will sell a piece to someone for a cheaper price, but once the artist becomes popular, the person who bought the original work can resell it for up to 10 times the buying price. While it’s awesome that the artist’s work increases in value, they receive absolutely no percentage of that resell. In the fine art world, NFTs are becoming an incredibly effective way to control the percentage that the artist gets from every resell of that piece. Say they sold the original work for thousand dollars, and someone resells that for a million, they can decide on the royalties that they get off of that piece. While I get the ridiculousness of buying memes for a shit ton of money, there is definitely a benefit for artists if they are able to use the system correctly. My professor is actually doing research right now regarding the fine art market and the use of NFTs, and the stuff that she’s finding out is incredibly interesting and a value to people who want to make a career out of selling their art. Just thought it would be cool to share some of the benefits of NFTs! I know that the first time I ever heard of them I thought it was stupid, but after learning a little bit more about how they can actually benefit the art world, I think they’re pretty cool! You can definitely use NFTs on physical works as well, it just acts as sort of a title that a person owns, and that title gets transferred whenever they sell the piece!

    I think the comparison to Pokémon cards is still being generous to NFTs. you can get people inflating prices but if a card is expensive it's usually because it was a rare print and/or is a desirable one. more recent cards have been known to intentionally run short stock to inflate prices but even still they're physical items with meaning. NFTs are entirely not unique and their "rarity" is completely artificial while being completely destructible because you can screenshot and repost that image anywhere

If you wanted to pay a lot of money for unique NSFW art, why not commission an artist. There are a lot of people who will draw stuff that’s way more appealing and you can actually tailor the artwork to your taste.

      It’s just weird because it seems like they’re trying to play up the utility of the NFT itself (if you can call the ability to jerk off to something utility, which i feel like you can). And NFT’s just have no fucking utility. They never have, not even the utility of just being nice to look at. I mean, there’s nice art that’s been minted, but as evidenced by the fucking apes, the quality of the art is completely irrelevant. NFT’s literally just serve the purpose of indicating that you spent a shitload of actual money on theoretical money so that the galaxy brains who think that shit’s “the future” will invite you to their circle jerk. Like if NSFW NFT sellers actually wanted to compete with actual NSFW digital artists, they would never fucking be able to. The whole thing isn’t based on any functional product, it’s just based on hyping up cryptocurrency and block chains. They’ll never be able to compete with people who have actual functional products and when people like metagirfriends try to their product is just comically sad.

      @@fart63 Not advocating for the B.S. that is NFTs, but there is work put into the designs, and as someone deep into art and an aspiring artist, I feel it necessary to point that out. Each accessory and/or hat and/or all of the other shit that can be swapped in and out had to be created by (an) artist/s. I actually have seen someone point out one of the artists behind BAYC and how that person talked about how it's cool it wen famous, but the lack of credit kinda sucks.
      I don't think NFTs are AT ALL good, but they were created, so there is work put into them. At the very least to make them possible to mint. If anything, that makes it worse, because those artists don't get credit.
      Sorry to ramble, I just don't feel comfortable insuing that there's no work put into the art itself, and can't comfortably like ignore you saying that, I'm not trying to be hostile or anything, just kindly bring up the logistics of that part of it.
      Much like picrews, each piece does have to be designed, and usually there are a good few hundred different accessories, leading to at least thousands of combinations. So while the minting is effortless in regards to human effort, (it definitely does have work put into that part too, but that's on the strain of computers and cooling systems that drain electricity) the NFTs do have designs and work and effort put into them, and as much as I hate NFTs, ignoring that effort is only harmful to the people who took that time to create that shit.

So I will still say no work went into the nft as it is. Buying an nft will not be supporting any artist that worked on the assets.

    Artists for years had commissions opened. Many artists struggle to have people pay them for their services (in concluding myself). Depending on the artists and what they're willing to draw you can have anything for you. When you buy that art you own it, though if you want to use it for commercial use you have to talk to the artist you buy from about that. A lot of artists are lower their prices to less than $20 just to get anyone to pay for their commissions even though their talent is worth more then their price tag. Then you have people buying these generic apes for more a $1000. NFTs are not helpful to the artist community, just commission an artist, you'll find one in your price range that draw what you want trust me.

The blockchains are backed up on many computers at once, so there’s no one “master” copy. Anyways, that’s why art associated with nfts are separate from the nfts. How things are written on the blockchain is way too inefficient. Large images can’t be put on the blockchain, but urls can be (and like really tiny pixel art images).
