The roster was good but not great, it had several X-men and Street fighters that weren't necessary or relevant, especially the roster on the part of Marvel was as disappointing little variety, irrelevant characters such as Marrow, Dan, as well as 2 Wolverines and Servbot were wasted space, honestly the UMVC3 was better on roster but they shouldn't take away important characters like Cyclops, Ken, Jin, Captain Commando, Hayato, and well Ruby Heart and add some important ones like X, Jedah, Date Masamune, Blade and Black Widow to name a few.

At EVO, they're totally gonna announce a re-release for current platforms...including the Switch (still can't believe we got a Street Fighter collection with 3rd Impact). Playing MvC2 in handheld mode will be fun. ;)

There was a Reddit rumor from October saying that there’s gonna be a collection of Marvel V.S Capcom games early this year. It supposedly is gonna be released with all the old games similar to the Arcade1Up cabinets with MvC2 having a standalone shadow release. Now this is the same poster that also said the collection would be $60 unless that was a MvC + 2 collection. Bundling every Marvel V.S Capcom game up to 2 and releasing it for $60 is kinda bonkers so take the rumor with a grain of salt. The Capcom leaks that happened last year didn’t reveal any news so another grain of salt but I’m personally keeping up hope.

as someone that’s not into many fighting games being a kid and watching my dad and his friend battle it out in this and the first one this game is 10/10!! I even still play it and own my original PS2 copy (well my dads) and I own the Xbox 360 market place version! This game is so wonky and fun my whole household plays it. And I remember whooping my cousins asses in this.

lol one time i went to the arcade playing MvC2 like it was Street Fighter, complete with Guile turtling, and this dude destroyed me just by button mashing and calling assists in. made me wanna get better and i did.
Was in a Gamestop about 2012 and a guy walked in to sell his copy of MvC2 and the dude.running the store legit said "I'll just buy it from you myself, you'll get more" and that was a bizarre experience.

But I agree. If they want a MvC game to do well after the shitstorm that was MvCI, theyd have to do something they could hype up. Like bringing back everyone. They also need to not focus so hard on the MCU, i think that is hurting a lot of the marvel games.

20th anniversary of MvC2 at Evo this year. They're *definitely* announcing a new MvC game.
8:10 I've been telling you since some late 2019 it's the 20th anniversary of MvC2. And now Disney got FF and X-Men back, Marvel 2 is at Evo, the signs are there for MvC2 remaster (with properly redrawn sprites in HD) and maybe even MvC4.
This was a great stream, especially Max reminiscing on the old 2002 and 2004 EVO trailers. That section was just nice to watch.
My PS2 copy is almost old enough to by alcohol... and somehow still works so im glad this getting some light... This game was absolutely crazy... The Gambit glitch and Captain Commando glitch... Cable is going to make a lotttttt of people cry

I'm not even a fighting game guy and I grew up playing MVC2 in arcades. Pumped that it's back at EVO and will try to tune in where and when I can.

I feel you max, I've recently bought a game that cost me around $75 and while I will say it was worth it, it didn't lessen the sting I felt in my wallet. Considering that the other option was to get the pricier Japanese version, I was lucky to stumble upon the European version and snatched it up as soon as I could.
Man, I remember walking into EB (I know, right?) and seeing the Guile/Psylocke stand-up next to stacks of sealed jewel cases marked with a $49.99 price tag that 12/13-year-old me couldn't even hope to afford on a random trip to the mall. It didn't make me sad, just hopeful and determined. I got it, eventually, but I'll never forget that particular trip.
First team was Gambit/Ken/Morrigan, by the way, because they were my favorite characters from their respective universes. I actually made it work pretty well.
...Who else is hoping that Capcom sees a big turnout for EVO MvC2 and makes a MvC4 using the lessons learned on what NOT to do with MvC Infinite?
I remember reading an article on a very old game magazine before the release of mvc2. I was a kid at the time but had loved all the vs games before it. I was soo hyped for it abd when it released early 2000, I wasn't dissapointed. Hooked ever since. My very first team was Guile/Iceman/Ryu....

I could also see them doing a 4-game collection, omitting the first two games (X-men:COTA, Marvel Super Heroes) which had few/secret street fighter characters, and were already licensed to Arcade1up for their machines (not sure if that licensing was exclusive).
The 4 game anniversary Collection would only feature games which had rosters FULL of Capcom characters:
1. X-Men vs. Street Fighter (1996)
2. Marvel SH vs. Street Fighter (1997)
3. Marvel vs. Capcom (1998)
4. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (2000)
Featuring all four games on opening select screen in a big “X” pattern, would highlight the return of the X-MEN to the Marvel vs. Capcom series!

Best case scenario: Marvel 2 re-release with the netcode people want in an 3rd Strike Online Edition way with new stuff.
Middle Ground: Marvel 2 re-release similar to the Street Fighter collection where the game functions online and you get a cool gallery that loads sometimes.
Obviously the worst case is that we see Marvel 2 at EVO and nothing happens. Marvel and Capcom continue to not work well together.

Fun fact: in the american arcaee version of MvC2 (at least the version i played) not all the characters were unlocked, i think they pop out at certain number of games played. I remember that Servbot, Felicia and Dan were the last ones to be unlocked.
I I really hope it gets re-released. MvC2 is one of my most favorite games of all time. It's just fucking EPIC. I still got that damn song stuck in my head and I love it!

I used to be in a crib with IFC Yipes n Sanford and my boy Nelson(RIP) and some other cats would come thru. I learned a lot about fighting games but couldn't hold a candle to any one of them and didn't even try my luck...they would play all night on their custom arcade sticks...good to see them doing their thing on the circuits and what not
MVC2 was one of the games that got me into fighting games, despite me still not being all that good at them. I remember playing the PS3 demo when my dad first got a PSN account, and when I bought my PS2 at a local used game store, that was the first game I got for it. Hell, I even got that weird iOS port for my old Gen 4 iPod Touch and played it to death on a field trip.
So needless to say, I'm incredibly happy to see that Mahvel's back at EVO, even if it's just for this year.
I have a copy for the Dreamcast but all the text is in Japanese so I never understood what any of it says. I'm now realizing I never thought to look in the menu to see if I could switch the language... TO THE DREAMCAST!

Marvel vs Campcom 2 is the one that got me into fighting games so it's beyond awesome that it is going to be at EVO this year. There was a store we called Dirty Mike's that had the arcade as well as MVC1 and Puzzle Fighter and it was a great way to spend free periods during high school

it is nice to hear Max talking about the arcades back in the day cause he is right it was at first not very well received you got to remember we all played every iteration of the versus games right up until MvC2 came out and we were used to a certain number of buttons but to have that change and then have 3 on 3 battles it thew most of us for a loop but once we got into the nitty gritty of the game that is when we all fell in love with it and played the shit out of it man was it glorious my first team was Hayato, Strider HIryu, and Silver Samurai just because I was obsessed with swords back then and they all fought with swords albeit in different ways, it turned out to be not a bad team but I love experimenting with all characters to make as many different teams as possible that is part of what made that game so much fun anyways great game and it is always fun to relive the memories

My first team was Cammy/Psylocke/Marrow... but this was after about a year so the meta had already started forming and the second I ran into Storm/Magneto/Sentinel... I couldn't move. I literally spent 80% of the match in block stun.
Thing is, Max's Marvel 2 games with Mike Ross were my introduction to this channel :D

2 will forever be my top 5 fighting games that game is such a classic so many characters to choose from hold the record for the biggest roster in a fighting game.

There is also another tv with Metal Slug. I don't know who chose these games, but he has good fucking taste. Respect.

I still remember being in a small ass corner coffee shop where people were smoking inside and in the back for the kids there was SNK 98 and X-Men vs Street fighter, spent way too much time at that coffee shop cause of those two games lol. Played the DC MvC2 version so much when it came out that the others felt a lil odd but I can still accept them for I just have a soft spot for MvC and MvC2.
I'm kinda hoping that MvC 2 being at EVO, will possibly help pave the way for an MvC Collection. I missed out on all the old Marvel/Capcom fighters back in the day except for Marvel 2 which I first played on Xbox back in like 2002. I'm fortunate enough to have the 360 version which I got back in like 2012. And a collection of the first 6 games would be the most epic thing ever to me. Its funny cuz I kinda suck at this game tbf, but its still hella fun, and is honestly imo one of the best fighting games ever made next to 3rd Strike, which I also suck at lol.
My biggest hopes is seeing a Spider-Man at EVO
I kept my 360 just because of all the old fighting games. I have all of the fighters, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Darkstalkers Resurrection, 3S:OE, even have the complete versions of Marvel 3 and Ultimate Marvel 3 DLC which they also discontinued. So glad I decided to keep it.

I live in Taiwan, Dreamcast is Japanese. Got a legit copy of Japanese MVC2 and it's broken. If you're familiar with that version, instead of just points from playing the game, to unlock all the characters, you have to earn 3 kinds of points to unlock everyone. One kind is from gameplay, but one is from online play (definitely not still supported) and the other was from taking your Dreamcast VMU to an arcade and plugging it into a Japanese MVC2 arcade machine. Result: you can only unlock a hand full of characters today with a Japanese copy of MVC2. They didn't future proof that game at all. I just play a burned copy of the US version.

I understand the importance of this game and the impact and I largely agree. However, one of my small problems with this game is when it comes to tournaments, the large amount of characters are rarely used.
i recently got a brook DC adapter! it works like a DREAM with cvs2 and mvc2; it even maps R1 & R2 to L/R respectively, something which i was NOT expecting at ALL

I just love MVCS2 so much, I remember that when I pick up CVSSSNK I was confused because that game doesn't have air combos, but I love it too. Everytime max upload something MVSC2 I must watch it.
