@Smart Bomb Seconding this, I was bummed that the Marvel Vs Capcom Arcade1Up doesn't include it. Might get one at some point in the unlikely event it goes on sale, then modify it with an RPi4 or whatever comes later and just run it on that.
This game was litterally THE reason to have a Dreamcast back in 2001. I mean there were other great games but this was a gem. So glad they brought it back for 360....now if they could only bring it out for Switch.

As a massive fan of the genre I can agree with it being spectacular. For me Third Strike and Alpha 3 will always hold the top spots.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo X, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Street Fighter III: Double Impact, Fatal Fury: Mark Of The Wolves, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Virtua Fighter 3, The King Of Fighters 1999 (1998 renamed), Crazy Taxi 1 & 2, Guilty Gear X etc's. Are all more than enough reasons to have purchased and bought a Sega Dreamcast!

I would love a modern re-release of MVC2, Even though I have the Dreamcast version. One of the best fighters ever.
I wish capcom would release a collection ala their recent Mega Man and Street Fighter collections. X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems, Punisher (arcade), X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom 2 & Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Ten games, full retail price for PC, Switch, Ps4 and Xbox1. That's the dream, but unlikely to happen.

@@songoku9348 Given that Disney has given the license for Arcade 1up to make a XMen COTA, MSH + Punisher arcade cab, and releasing the Aladdin/Lion King 16 bit games... Disney might be getting more lax on re-releases on older games. Never know, we might actually get a re-release from Disney and Capcom.
Hopefully the next re-release won't be missing things like the last one was.

Impossible to describe what it was like to have several arcade sticks and MvsC2 on the Dreamcast with a group of friends. It was an amazing experience that I wish I could experience again.
This is my favorite fighting game ever. When I was younger, I used to play this game for hours upon hours. Cable, Gambit, and Captain Commando were my go-tos. I've loved this game so much that I'm currently building an arcade machine with a Naomi to finally be able to own my own cabinet in my house. Thank you for making this video, it gives me inspiration to finish my build!

Mvc2 is by far my favorite cross over of all time! The roster, charm, stages, announcer, catchy music and replay value is a 10/10 for me. I'm a big X-Men fan and the roster delivers in MVC2!

@Feezie F-Baby Back when Tekken x Street Fighter was about to launch, Namco introduced their day one DLC characters, but eventually it was discovered that the DLC characters were already in the game's disc, meaning that you weren't paying to download characters, you were paying to unlock them straight off the disc, hence the joke Disc-Locked Characters.
Crossovers Tekken X Street fighter never released. Street fighter X Tekken however...

I love how low key the music was, especially in juxtaposition of how epic the game was. "Look, Juggernaut, Venom, Mega Man and Akuma are fighting... welp, time to throw on some Chuck Mangione".
I was a tournament player back in the day. MvC2 might seem badly balanced, but so was SF3:3rd Strike (only Chun, Yun and Ken in most tournaments), Tekken 4 (Jin was a tier on his own), TTT (Mishimas and Ogres), and CvS2 was also dominated by Blanka, Cammy and Sagat (later A-ism Bison and Sakura joined in).
I played all the fighters heavily, and in the end, my favorite is either Guilty Gear X2, or Super Street Fighter II Turbo. Soul Calibur 2 was my favorite 3D fighter.
Later on, SF HD Remix was released, and that got me back into competition.
But the best fighter of all time I actually believe to be FANTASY STRIKE. It's designed so extremely well.

Oddly enough, Spider-Man's theme was being played when you ragged on the jazz soundtrack. That and Captain America's theme were two of my fave themes from the Marvel side. Ouch.

I could play this game forever and never get tired of it. The nostalgia , the music, the fact that I remember having to pay a quarter everytime I wanted to play. Can’t take this game for granted even years later.

This game is one of my favorite titles, because it shows how Capcom realized that they needed to setup for the SNK collab by developing a team-of-3 format. Thanks for the vid!

I still own this game on dreamcast and PlayStation 2. Its one of my favorite fighting games ever! Capcom vs snk 2 is a close second place.

I want to know what emulator he was using. The characters looked all jacked up in the intro! They were cut in half and mixed together! That's too bad. The dreamcast emulator called ReDream can run this game flawlessly. Not to mention, you can play it in a higher resolution. It's amazing to see some of the artwork,like the character portraits in the character select screen, look so crisp. I would have never imagined they actually had that artwork in that high of a resolution on the disc back in the day.

this is the first time i saw someone saying the soundtrack of this game is bad, since everyone seems to treats like its one of the greatests soundtracks of videogame history. I personaly thinks its a "ok" soundtrack.

The music in this game is too corny and quite bad. Fortunately there are ways to add your own songs or download the game with different mixes. There wouldn’t be so many mixes if the music wasn’t so bad.

Finest fighting game ever made!!!! Protip, if you have a ps2 version, it needs a little tape in the center of the disc bc its was too thin and kept the disc spinner from getting a firm enough grip.

Just having watched this .. I think MVC2 is *one* of the best fighting games ever made. It looked amazing when it came out, it had a huge roster, it got more attention (that I saw) than any other release I think I've ever seen. Saying there were "better options" on re-release comes down to what you'd call better, it was still one of a kind.

Gotta agree with Top Hat Gaming Man here. Even the best tracks here do not fit with a fighting game of any kind. Let alone a Marvel or Capcom fighter. Plus, we went from incredible soundtracks with amazing character themes...to a complete lack of exactly that.
Aww so many memories of ditching school to hang out at the arcarde back home. The Family Arcade on Vermont in Hollywood C.A back in 2001 arcades where le shite. Nowadays kids dont know what they missed out on.

I was 15. I worked at Arbys. I bought my Dreamcast on September, 9th. When Mvc2 came out, I bought 2 arcade pads and quit my job. Smoked alot of cannabis, made alot of money. My mom kicked me out because of MVC2. I still talk to a guy I met on Xbox360 everyday, to this day because of this game. Thanks Top Hat Gaming man. This video means the world to me. Yeeaah!

This game was doing Smash Bros Ultimate work way before. Sure, just two brand were playing, and actually not so many IPs, because Street Fighter and X-Men ruled, but were enough to get that feeling of big party, a multiverse clash along well known and not so know but interesting characters. Something I will never forget is in my local arcade place back in he days, Marvel vs Capcom 2 arcade was the biggest and loudest one, there were always big guys there and felt like the pro gamers stage.

It's the fighting game I've personally had the most fun with, at the mid-to-high skill arena with friends (right before 56 characters get honed down to 6)...and I've tried all fighting games.

Feezie F-Baby late 99/early 2000 was the best time to be a fighting game fan. I’d go to the arcade all the time to play Tekken Tag and Marvel vs Capcom 2. So many great memories. Funny how in 2012 Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Tekken Tag 2 came out.

This game had an iOS port on iPod touch years ago. It was officially licensed and only 99 cents. It contained all of the unlockables but the touch controls made it impossible to play. It was such a cool novelty, though.
An excellent MvC2 revisit, Top Hat Gaming Man! I’ve been enjoying your trip down Capcom fighting game memory lane and like most of the reviews and attention to detail you give in explaining how each title and game works!
If anything surprised me, it’s a pity that you’re not a fan of MvC2’s soundtrack. I know it’s subjective and it’s jazzy - but there were awesome tracks like the airship stage’s BGM and of course “I wanna take you for a ride” at the character select screen. Not for everyone, but it was a strange kinda good experiment for the time - especially during the Dreamcast era with so many awesome titles for that system.
Also! The Japanese release of MvC 2’s Secret Shop was tough and more challenging to unlock characters - there were two sets of point systems and one needed online play iirc!
The fact that u don't appreciate the beautiful and astounding music in this masterpiece...
Considering that the Playstation 1 was still a thing at this point for 3-4 more years.., imagine if they STILL had a limited port of MvC2 for the ps1?
Had an OG PlayStation port of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 been made, it would more or less be a one-on-one fighting game with two characters to assist you.
At 56 characters MvC2 held the title for the largest roster in a fighting game for the longest time. Nowadays I doubt any fighting game can ever top EA Sports UFC3’s 270 characters

Thank you for doing this video, but some things struck me as weird. You showcase and criticize the intro, but you are showing a VERY poorly emulated version with cut off art. All the footage (both intro and in-game) is strangely low frame rate.
4:35 Mega Man, Venom, Srider, and Captain Commando and Jin, are all fresh characters. Their sprites weren't pulled from other games.
19:00 PS2 and Xbox versions of MvC2 aren't similar to the Dreamcast version. They each have their own unique set of bugs, and bug fixes. And, they both have frame drops.
8:30 Sonson in MvC2 is the grand daughter of that character.
And for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, they were extremely buggy as well, and most of the bugs were fixed. We could even report bugs on the forum to be fix. However, everyone, myself included reported the Blackheart super bug, where his mid-air green demon spray super (whatever it's called) sometimes wont deal chip damage. It was said that the final patch of the game was already finalized. Magneto had the same issue with his mid-air magnetic tempest, however that was fixed.
And the bugs that were fixed in the PS2-Xbox versions of the game were reverted. So Ruby Heart can use a snapback before the chest has spawned a ghost to lock his position. Though, it doesn't sink off screen anymore.
Anyway, nice video.
XBox was buggy but it was closer to the Arcade than Dreamcast as far as options.

I think the greatest fighting game of all time is Capcom vs Snk 2 all it feels like the best competitive game and doesn't have as much chaos as Capcome vs Marvel 2 my second choice would be Street fighter 2 in its many iterations

I liked mvc1 way better. Far more balanced (though still broken as hell) compared to part 2. Mvc2 dumbed down the button layout but not to take anything away mvc2 was fun.

My starting squad is Spider-Man Captain America Iron Man. My back up team is Cammy Cable Thanos. The best team I fought against was Rouge Gambit Gulie, they have a team chain combo that is super dominant. I still have the blocking pattern memorized. Thumbs up soldier!!! 👍

I was with you till the end when you said the music was subjectively awful, obviously it is subjective but to me it is one of the greatest OST’s of all time. I originally only clicked on the video to learn about the music as I am currently working on a video about the soundtrack. I had to leave a dislike strictly due to that god awful opinion.
The main reason I love this game was at my local arcade (Gameworks at the time), I dominated a whole evening by winning about 26 matches in a row without loosing. I felt amazing that day. I think it was against 13 different people from mostly adults and a couple of teenagers (I was a teen myself, 16 to be exact). The cabinet was the first game on the second floor, there was a line from the top of the steps that went all the way down to the first floor to the billiards. I heard cheers, boos, and some insults hurled my way, it was amazing. I will never forget that day, and I think that's why I hold MvC2 a special place in my heart. Unfortiantly, when MvC2 came out for download on Xbox 360, I played online and I did well, but nothing like how I did at the arcades. You can say, I met better talent online but atleast I know I'm a Don in South Miami 20 years ago... damn, it's has been 20 years? Now I feel old lol. Also, Dreamcast and MvC2 are paired together in my heart, the best times in my gaming history.
Nice video. I never really got into this one because the graphical style was so garish and chaotic, also the camera moving all over the place with the air jumps, and the high novelty factor with the outlandish cast. However, your video has made me want to give it another chance. For me the best fighter of all time would be something like Garou or Street Fighter 3 or Street Fighter Alpha 3 which has stylistic cohesiveness within it's own universe, beautiful sprites and deep gameplay
The versions of the Marvel vs Capcom games that I would recommend are:
1. X-Men vs Street Fighter (Saturn).
2. Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (Saturn).
3. Marvel vs Capcom 1 (Dreamcast).
4. Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Dreamcast/Xbox/PlayStation 2).
5. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (PS4/PS Vita/Xbox 360/Xbox One) (Physical copies only).
And 6. Marvel vs Capcom 4: Infinite (PS4/Xbox One) (Physical copies only).
The DC version of MvC2 definitely. It was basically the arcade version of the game with a home menu, considering the board was basically identical. The later ports felt weird to me in general. But, that's just me.
The PS2 version is plagued with slow downs and incorrect hit boxes in comparison to DC and Arcade version.
@@AmahlAmahlAmahl Agreed. I feel like that was other deals as well such as Capcom Vs SNK 2. I had the DC version, loved it, DC gave out, settled for the PS2 version, felt different but whatever. Now I have the DC versions of these games again and play with that. Lol.

Refreshingly out of place music, blows the doors off of its predecessor in gameplay, one of the highest skill curves in fighting game history and possibly videogame history. It's got my vote. Hard to believe this game is 20 years old!

I played this game while deployed until the disc stopped working... it was a sad day indeed.

I really enjoy the Guilty Gear series. The art style the character and the music just captured me. I miss the fatality mechanic from the first game but I understand why they took it out. As for the modern fighters. I have to say there is a lot of fun to be had with Dragonball Fighterz. It may be one of the best modern fighting games out there.

Agreed. I played that team but wasn't my main. My main team was Strider, Storm, and Juggernaut, who was the one that took everybody off guard.

honestly it didnt matter if the main intro didnt have gameplay, at the time just seeing that come up got people so hyped. It did its job
