zepp never lets anyone do covers, but even Robert Plant when hearing this stopped and said w00w. Extremely, excessively brilliant! This is very hard for me to say, but i have to accept this as my favorite tool song ever, or at least a tie w push it live
That's a bit rich coming from the band who (apart from the Rolling Stones) owe more of their own massive success to covering/borrowing/appropriating/ripping off old blues standards than any other band ever .. as far as I know this is nonsense anyway because anyone can cover anything, they just have to pay royalties to the publishers of course. I don't know where you get your ideas, but a quick search shows up at least 60 Zeppelin songs (over half their total output) covered by various artists over the decades, with most done multiple times in many different styles .. No Quarter alone has been done about 20 times, so basically you couldn't be more wrong :/
"Ripping off" is the real stretch here. Influence and inspiration is the right term, Timmy. No blues group produce anything like the Zepp. Don't get me started with appropriation because covering a band is more towards appreciation.
Almost all the songs from Zeppelin IV onwards were original. And IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffiti are their best albums. Re-contextualizing traditional blues songs wasn't anything new. Cream, Hendrix, and many many other bands were doing the same thing. Doesn't make them any less great.
Close the door, put out the light No, they won't be home tonight The snow falls hard and don't you know? Quite a few years ago I stood in the rain in Camden NJ while Tool played. When it was over I said to my brother that it was bullshit man... over already? He laughed and said bro, they've been playing for two and a half hours. I said I could listen two and a half more... he laughed again and agreed.
As an avid Led Zeppelin fan, this honestly (imo) is better than the original. Hands down. The chord progression that changes from a cover to Tool’s own sound is Iconic.
I've listened to this for years, but when youtube suggestions brought me back to it, I think I would prefer the non-robotized voice in the beginning and just hear Maynard sing in the regular haunting voice he perfected
There was once a day, a looooong time ago. Before I had heard of Salival. I was sitting here, on the ole interweb and a thought occurred to me. Tool covering Led Zeppelin would be the most amazing marriage of progressive rock/metal to ever exist. Soon after I was drooling over the Box Set and wishing I had it. I am sure I ended up downloading the track before finally buying Salival (with the VHS btw LOL) Also, funny enough, this was also my intro to No Quarter all together. I agree with you 100%
"Imagine if Led Zeppelin had the same technology as Tool does nowadays." But in terms of the technology Tool actually uses, they pretty much did. Adam Jones' signature sound comes from using guitars, amps and types of effects units that are older than Zeppelin.
Both versions are awesome. LZ's original is bright and psychedelic. Tool adds their darkness and mysterious to make it modernistic. You know it's a good song if it can be manipulated and stand the test of time.

Careful, I've come to associate certain albums with feeling sick due to hearing them when I was sick. OK computer and Garbages first two albums make me feel weird if I hear them
This might be one of the best covers of any song. I ALMOST prefer this to the original.
First heard this on late night radio about 10 years ago . Wasn't really paying close attention and thought it was Zeppelin until I heard Maynard' s voice. Wow! Great cover!
danny is probly the only one who can play this song with as much emotion as the zepplin did..beautiful cover
I would love to hear Tool do more covers.
originality is their specialty...so...I say no
Demon cleaner.....
@@jonseywels8163 This cover is very original though... But I agree lol
Feel lucky to have heard this in my lifetime. Really... just fantastic.
It surprises me over and over again how much I love this band. I wish I could see them live again.
A few months ago, I went through all of TOOL's discography on Spotify without listening to Salival as it's not on there. I never realized that one of my favorite bands covered another one of my favorite bands! Great song choice, and of course, fantastic cover!
TOOL !!!! amazing, no matter what they do !!!
Lyrics:
Lock the door, kill the light.
no one's coming home tonight.
the sun beats down and don't you know?
all our lives are growing cold, oh...
they bring news that must get through.
to build a dream for me and you, oh.
Locked in a place where no one goes.
They ask no quarter
they have no quarter.
Lock the door, kill the light
no one's coming home tonight
It's getting colder (7x)
locked in a place where no one goes.
Lock the door, kill the light
no one's coming home tonight
They bring news that must get through.
dying peace in me and you
Locked in a place where no one goes.
We have no quarter
we have no quarter
we ask no quarter
Led zeppelin version
Close the door, put out the light.
no, they won't be home tonight.
the snow falls hard and don't you know?
the winds of thor are blowing cold.
they're wearing steel that's bright and true
they carry news that must get through, oooh
They choose the path where no-one goes.
They hold no quarter.
they hold no quarter.
Walking side by side with death
the devil mocks their every step
the snow drives back the foot that's slow
the dogs of doom are howling more
they carry news that must get through
to build a dream for me and you
They choose the path where no-one goes.
They hold no quarter.
they ask no quarter.
they hold no quarter.
they ask no quarter.
The pain, the pain without quarter.
they ask no quarter.
yeah! without quarter, quarter, yeah!
they need no quarter.
the dogs of doom are howling more!
i hear the dogs of doom are howling more!
I love both versions equally for almost the same exact reasons. Just utterly amazing.
zepp never lets anyone do covers, but even Robert Plant when hearing this stopped and said w00w.
Robb Deep I totally agree with you!!!!!!
I don't know about favorite TOOL song ever, but it's dope as fuck. Wings for Marie 1&2 are better than this. Tool and Zep are my 2 fav bands ever.
Time seems to stop when you hear masterpieces like this. LOVE Tool 💗

Without quarter, quarter, yeah (without quarter)
Without quarter, quarter, quarter
Taking no quarter
Oh, oh, oh (hear the dogs of doom) (no, never quarter)
I hear the dogs of doom are howling more
Best Led Zeppelin cover of all time, hands down.
damn this is the best thing i've ever heard oh my god
Where you from girl you're cute and you're tool fan lol
Damn Dave
Truly the only band I would ever trust to cover music so sacred as this
The only band that gives me real goosebumps
Normally don't think Zeppelin or Floyd should be covered but this is really good
Imagine if Tool did a cover of Dark Side of the Moon.
Wouldn't work
jk fn no. animals.
Echoes
jk fn - how about: Shine On you crazy Diamond? That would be epic!!
@@jerseysucks6158 i agree shine on you crazy diamond would be much more tools style, thatd be amazing to hear.
ive listened to this song countless times..and it gets better EVERY. FUCKING. TIME.
Best song cover Ive ever heard! Tool is the greatest band ever, making the cover more complex than the actual song!
My favorite version of this song. Tool is amazing. Absolutely amazing!
They brought so much POWER!!!! to this song. Great cover...
Led Zeppelin must be proud and blown away by this homage to one of their greatest songs. Awesome rendition!!!
One of the best covers ever recorded.
I swear i fucking LOVE this song/cover i cant describe how it makes me feel this band will forever be one of the greatest to do it
the ultimate song when stoned
Absofuckinglutely. Or on shrooms.
this song drives me to another dimension when high
You ain't lying..gahdamn
24/7
I think lateralus and holy Trinity would be awesome
Zep rocked in the 60's and 70's. tool rocks the 90's and beyond. You have to put yourself in each era.
Ive seen them live in holland thanks to my great sister who knew i woud appreciate it if she bought tickets, which she did... and i can say in ONE word AMAZING its one of my most favourite memories...!!
God damnit this is so gorgeously somber and dark, I loved it since they released salival, and after years and years I don’t think I’ll ever stop loving this sweet melody 🤟🏻
🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Brilliant!!! Zeppelin is my heart n' soul so this is huge for me to accept anybody other then Heart doing Zeppelin... Zep must really respect you for giving u the rights to perform No Quarter. Beautifully done!!!
Maynard gave new meaning to this song with his unworldly voice... love it!!!
I prefer the original, but I still can't stop listening to this
Quite a few years ago I stood in the rain in Camden NJ while Tool played.
I love both versions! both are different. both are enjoyable.
I've listened to this for years, but when youtube suggestions brought me back to it, I think I would prefer the non-robotized voice in the beginning and just hear Maynard sing in the regular haunting voice he perfected
Honestly such an amazing cover. Tool is indescribable imo. Truly unique
I agree with you 100%
"Imagine if Led Zeppelin had the same technology as Tool does nowadays."
But in terms of the technology Tool actually uses, they pretty much did. Adam Jones' signature sound comes from using guitars, amps and types of effects units that are older than Zeppelin.
STUNNING, BEAUTIFUL, F'N EPIC ON A WHOLE OTHER LEVEL OF EPICNESS
Such an amazing cover, Tool can make any song sound like thier own
Both versions are awesome. LZ's original is bright and psychedelic. Tool adds their darkness and mysterious to make it modernistic. You know it's a good song if it can be manipulated and stand the test of time.
The human condition since the dawn of time
If there was one tune to listen to over and over on desert island..... this is it.
I LOVE THIS HERE BAD ASS SONG!-I HAVE THE TRIPLE CD OF LED ZEPPLIN, AND I'VE ALWAYS JAMMED TO "NO QUARTER", THIS VERSION IS AMAZING! ****£
THIS TUNE, I CAN RELATE TO. LOVE THIS!!! \m/ 13 ♥~♥~♥£
Greatest cover of all time. True to the original yet true to themselves! Best ever.
