MJK was not the goat - that was clearly les claypool - his performance here was a dedication to the front man from the residents - homer flynn - did i just reveal a fifty year secret? - homer always wears a mask and flails his arms just like les is doing - this performance is a direct homage to one of his heroes
Agreed. I normally sing this on karaoke nights just to keep my chops up as a drummer and a backup vocalist. Tonight I tried to do just that… required correction almost immediately as I realized I can’t do that. Also… “back the way it ought to be” is the toughest part for me to sing. I never sustain the “be” part as long as he is able to. Doesn’t matter for most there but it does to me. But I do try to put on a show too, so at least I am trying to get into this character.
These vocals sound like they're straight from the sound board! I have NEVER heard 'nard so clear from a live recording. This is a true gem! Thank you so much!
I recorded the video with a Samsung S23+ cell phone which has excellent audio and video capabilities but it also doesnt hurt that the Hollywood Bowl has the best sound system of any venue around.
Maynard’s voice is his “tool”…he’s a health nut, keeps his body and vocal chords in shape; this is why, along with pure talent, he still sounds this good 🙌🏻
I cannot say how fucking awesome this was live. The MJK trifecta, Carina Rounds birthday, original APC, fucking Primus! Sessanta birthday year for me and MJk. Maynard the Cat😂😂 and then TOOL plays Aenema.. I can literally die ❤❤❤
@@neilabel1711 +1 Regret to life. You know how many boys became men during Judith's video with Paz tying up her hair? You KNOW what I am talking about. It's... the moment where you're like, "okay.. I get it."

My first concert was 97' Lollapalooza in Chicago with TOOL headlining and I got to see a half-painted, glow-in-the-dark blue Maynard totally blow my teenage mind. Fast forward to 2020 with Covid and hearing MJK bellow "Stay Alive" during Descending while thinking about what would happen to my little boys if anything happened to me was awe inspiring and wildly timely and relevant. To see and hear this band still sound like the studio release live and Maynard being out front and center instead of a shadowy silhouette in the background just brings it all back full circle to the days of Undertow and AEnema. Thank you again for the upload. This is a special moment to capture for any lifelong TOOL fan.
so jealous of anyone there to see it live. can’t believe how incredible it sounds. thanks to the poster. Maynard still going hard at 60. a true legend!
I was seated next to Justin Chancellor and his wife in the audience, then when he got up and didn't return to his seat I was on pins and needles. People were legitimately crying. Best show I've ever been to.
@@TOOLislovebro I’m so happy we were able to share that experience. Fucking lucky duckies we are. When Les started doing that southern song, and like fucking his bass, I melted
Did Maynard actually allow for this one to be recorded? I see this channel also has Grand Canyon video...which was the finale at 1st Phx show & only one he allowed
@@ShastaBean he mentioned the “we’re gonna let you film” once tool was getting ready to come out. But prior to that it seemed like people would film when they want. But like any of his shows, majority are too focused on the stage to do so. I think he kinda let it happen for his celebration

Maynard's voice is perfect for his age. His raspy vocals sound juicy, love it. Wish I could see them some day if they ever come to my country. Greetings from Argentina!!
This is so great. I was there further up the hill. Words cannot express the emotions from this show and especially this song. Mom bring the rain please!
he sounds fantastic and his harsher range of vocals, the shouting and gritty parts sound more menacing than I've ever heard them in this performance, I long for another Tool album while they are on this wave of energy.
I was in front of Adam and such, still processing what the hell happened. It felt very surreal and got to score a pick and a ping pong ball!!! What an amazing show indeed!!!
I'm having a hard time coming back to reality from this... still have goosebumps! What an incredible night from start to finish. Flew down from Canada for this, we picked the right show! Wow all these bands just do it for me.

Guh, the San Diego show was fantastic, but this would have brought it to another level. Fitting that the guys made it out for the Hollywood Bowl show to do Aenema
Damn I wish I was at this show! I was fortunate enough to see them at The Woodlands in Texas! I've never seen anything quite like this show! It was very unique and full of energy. I had no idea the boys from Tool would show up on this Tour!! WTF i'm so bummed I couldn't get tickets to this exact show. And I love hearing the People in LA screaming for their city to become part of the pacific.
I saw them live in 95 and 96. MJK was a madman back then, spinning and doing is weird spider gyration dance thing. He doesn't have the same vigor with his body anymore, but his voice sounds the same. He knows how to maintain that instrument, even with three bands.
Maynard in the middle of the stage with Tool, i never thought i'd see the day
Old days for tool and apc he was outfront. He said its mainly for audio clarity its better from back
Or adam on the right side
This was historic with him having all 3 bands in the same location lol
Once every thirty years! 😅
You must not have known tool from Anemia, Undertow days 🎉🎉🎉
Love hearing LA folks cheering to a song about LA falling into the ocean!
we sang the hell out of it!
I was there enjoying it and having a mind chuckle over the irony
Ironic
They also played it at Glen Helen, right on the San Andreas fault zone.
Equally fitting.
I'm glad I read the comments before posting because I was going to say the same. I would like to know how much couch seats behind the stage cost.
After 20+ years, on 4/20/24 🍃 the MJK trifecta was finally completed live. All three of his bands played in the same night. MJK the 🐐
Agreeeeeeeed! ❤❤
I thought they did it back in Arizona like 5 years ago?
His fourth band, yet to be created, will be the best one yet!

I can fucking die now.
Maynard up front, Justin and Adam on the wrong sides, Les Claypool on backing vox. Pure awesomeness nonetheless!
The voice fluctuation in “Bullshit” “Three Ring” “Circus” sounds so angelic my god
His voice has just been unbelievable the last few years I've seen him live.
Suck it DOOOOOWN!

Reverend Maynard used to wear a suit.

noticed that too
Am I the only one noticing that Les has no idea what to do with his hands without a bass strapped to him?😂❤
I also noticed that Les Claypool was basically Loki the backup dancer.
He's got more hand than the average person to find something to do with.
Compare him to Randy Rose
One of his arms is taller than MK on its own.
He's acting like a kid in a school play
I think Les missed his true calling as a dancer backup singer. This was beautiful. 😂
