Im happy with Apple (iphone and pads) but my MacBook Pro is acting like a windows PC now where it hangs and crashes... It never did that before. Just upgraded it too with the latest SSD and 16GB of RAM so i know its not a hardware issue. Also MacOS now suffers from viruses where it never used to. So i think (from a MacBook vs PC perspective at least) there isnt any difference anymore. Again though i got my MacBook at a 50% discount as it was the last model before retina came out. Im going to buy a android phone or tablet though as i want to experience android auto and give OBDEleven a play. Have you ever used Android Auto mate?
Jay Kay my Audi is 2006 quattro so got sd card, cd changer, sat navigation unit, Bit old school now. All my stuff is Sony hi res as love my music too. Also always had Sony xperia phones too. My Brother in law knows computers/laptops inside out. If you are ever down the Birmingham area take it to his shop. Will sort out ASAP!
My misses has a cooper works jay, we'll have to make time to come to your area for a break and you can make a vid on her, it needs a good rag anyway lol but don't tell her I said that though haha

My major grip with Apple Carplay (not App Connect) is that I am an Amazon Music unlimited subscriber and there is no app from Amazon for the Carplay interface. Despite it being on Android Auto for a year. I am guessing Apple are blocking it to force people to buy Apple Music?. I can start the Amazon Music app outside car play on the iPhone and I get basic music controls on the steering but its far from ideal and might result in a Tiguan saying hello to a hedge sometime
yes and the apps you can get are very useless lol. Apple are apparently opening up now so more apps *should* start appearing on the system. Whatsapp using siri is definitely a step in the right direction. Apple will bow down to public pressure or they'll lose out like Nintendo did to Sony with the Playstation
There are a couple of 3rd party apps I use in Carplay one is Downcast (for podcasts) and the other is Tunein Radio (mind you most of what you want is on the DAB radio anyway)
Jay K - do you have Dyna Audio? Spec'ing myself at the moment and considering this system. Not convinced any of the vids on youtube really capture the true nature of the sound quality of what the system potentially offers.

As my understanding was that part of buying the Dyna Audio was that you upgrade the Discover Nav System to the Pro as well? I could be wrong as that side of things i was never concerned about when buying
I know for sure the Tech Pack is no longer available meaning you have to pay for the Nav and Audio separately (should you want the upgraded Nav). So essentially it would cost you circa £700+ more now if you decided you wanted both as you can't buy the pack. I'm not too bothered about the Nav given its uses would not be that regular.
do a bit of research into Nav Pro system. I know that it lets you playback video from a DVD and possibly your phone. Not too much of an issue as you coud just use your smartphone or tablet for that sort of thng to be fair. I finid im generally happy with my Discover Nav system
Whats a bigger issue is VW Car-Net its a right ****** to try to get it to connect to your phones tethered data signal at least with me and its info is less than useful. "Petrol" prices pity my vehicle burns long chain hydrocarbons isnt it 🙄
haha ive done a thorough video on car net app which im uploading now, as i found some very interesting things. It is ultimately a useless piece of kit though and VW dont even support mine anymore - at least when i try to update it it says no updates avaliable.
Here in Germany i must pay 200€ to get it and then what ? Use maps ? My Golf have navigation system inside and i can play music from my iPhone on the car it's not worth of 200€ by the way I use 64gb SD card for music
Why pay anything when with a bit of persuasion you get it free 😉 Apple map is better than the vw nav system too. I used the vw system the weekend just gone and it took me through some challenging routes to say the least! I seem to prefer Apple and google maps navigation
Jay Kay yes but it use always the data of you cellular when I use phone navigation app I use HERE app for navigation because I can download the maps offline
Maps uses hardly any data now. I know this for a fact because I use maps on a 3 hour drive to the most northern points of Yorkshire quite a lot and my data doesn't hardly get used. Perhaps you're referring f to an older version of iOS. Like I said in this video back in 2015 in Florida, yes, maps trashed my data. But that has been fixed
How much is it if you don't mind me asking? Using Bluetooth and the fact you can say "Hey Siri" to your phone (which is right next to you) whilst driving, it means you can do an awful lot of what I just seen using your phone and the Bluetooth connection. So for music, texts and calls etc it all looks like it does the same, but maybe looks a little different on screen. The maps thing looks good tho. Was just seeing if for the price it was worth it... Really enjoy your videos btw. I know so much more about my golf R as a result of watching so thanks.
App connect is £200 i think but you can easily get the dealer to throw it in. Its not an essential purchase and as you quite rightly say - in my landcruiser i use siri via hands free and can easily use apple maps because my landcruiser sat nav screen lets me sit my phone on top of it and gives it 100% support lol. But it is a nice finishing touch to a nice car

Jail breaking your iPhone allows you to put lots of extra apps on airplay
I don't thinks it's worth £200 but the maps looks good I sometimes use mine through Bluetooth because the vw nab is difficult to use
