  • What do you do when you have a bum front tire and two rear tires in need of replacement also? Give the rears an official send off before they see the garbage!!
This 1968 Chrysler 300 boils the tires with a monster 440 under the hood.

440's will do that lol. When I worked for a local scrapyard during the cash for clunkers craze, we tested a bunch of old iron from the big 3, as to which 1 would do the best tire smoking burn out. Mopars always won. Even 318 4v cars would roast tires whereas Ford and Chevy small blocks, would just bog or chirp the tires. I'll never forget the time we tried to do a burn out in an old 76 440 dually stake side with a broken frame. It danced around like Christine, hopping against the brakes like something you've never seen. The thermoquad howled like a banshee. It destroyed the bias ply tires like a hot knife through butter. I wish we had that on vid....

It was HUGE fun.. but 1 time we had the fire dept called on us because a neighbor thought there was fire after we did 2 burnouts side by side.. And then we had to quit doing them..lol But extremely fun while it lasted!

The cash for clunkers program was just sad. So many nice old cars were destroyed. That's when old cars got expensive and rare to see in use

I’m glad you understand the scene. The reality is; if Joe didn’t get this car it would have ended up in a derby never to be seen on the road again. This is how we have fun with them, if they break we fix them - simple

It is so majestic seeing a big boat like that roast the tires. Always done that with my 88 grand marquis. I probably done hundreds of burnouts with that old girl and never broke a single thing, (other than needing new back tires every other week).

Well Ric,,, just goes to show, all the negative ninnys on here haven't been to the Mopar Nats, where that would've been an honorable mention.
A former winner of the burnout contest, a 71 Newport Custom 2dr. Hardtop with a relatively stock 440 that got a 6 pack dropped on, just to go to the Nats from Columbus Indiana,, is still kickin' here in the area.
Screw the millineals,,, drop the blades and let'er HOWL!

this is the PERFECT comment for this video, Thank you very much! A little background that most people don't know, is this car was saved from the scrap yard and well taken care of. If you ain't haven fun with em, whats the point?

      @@ric0000 at 16, I saw
My first 68 300. It was a triple white 2 door convertible, and sitting quietly next to the garage at Larry Plessinger's Salvage Yard, in Blocher Indiana. It was similar in condition to the Maroon howler in this video. (Except all its tires were up, and all its three blade spinners were still on the wheels). AFTER I waited for Larry to pause and ask me; "Whadda you want Kid?" I just pointed at that unbelievable front end and those hideaway headlight doors.
Larry said "Too bad Kid, THAT, ain't for sale". I responded "But why?, it looks like it's ok...." He said it IS ok,,, in fact, I am thinking about pulling the engine because the owner isn't gonna be out in time to drive ever again.....
I learned that day, that the GODDESS of 300's, was owned by a guy who was getting his anus resized in federal prison for several things I didn't wanna even know about.
I literally visited the car for years. Larry never let anyone pull so much as the dual snorkel.
When Larry decided that I was a good apprentice,,, HE let me have the driveline and the three blade spinners, but not a single seat or headlight door motor beyond that.
I still wish he would have let me just put it away in my garage. But, it went the way so many did back in the day. Tied up in bad paperwork,,,,
Larry grew old, the state harassed him out of business, and ultimately,,,, I think, they harassed him to death. I got to know him well enough that he showed me his 58 Corvette that he bought new. In cash. He was a very interesting old dude. He finally died in the 2000's.
The yard was cleaned out and that took years. I don't know what became of the rest of Her. Mine eyes couldn't have borne the sight of the end of that beautiful old 300 without weeping.
I still have Her heart, and her wheelcovers. And she sounds almost identical to the Maroon 4 door in your video. 32k when I got that TNT,,, and about 66k on it now.
Valve cover gaskets and rear main have been changed,,, and the engine has been low pressure bead blasted and coated with Dupont Euro, then shot with JP Hirsch Turquoise epoxy. It gleams. And occasionally, ,,, It HOWLS.

    • @joesgarage9953
      @joesgarage9953 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Courtney Moyer I’m not sure if you could see it, but the tire is junk. My brother was shuttling people from my wedding back to their cars about 1mile away. Got a flat and by the time he stopped the tire was junk. They were all old tires and frankly the rears were shot too. Sooo no better way to get the “full use” out of them then to do a huge “send off”.... and trust me, I did sell the car and miss it dearly, However it was doomed to the demolition derby guys before I saved it....so hold your horses on getting pissed off. Know the whole story first before assuming I just beat on them.
