  • This is it the moment we’ve all been waiting for, THE FIRST START AFTER THE REBUILD!! Watch as we start the engine for the first time since we did the rebuild. All in all it went very smooth and I am very happy. We have some work to do on the carburetor to rebuild and tune to the new engine configuration.
    The 440 engine in this car has been rebuilt and includes the following:
    -New Gaskets all around
    -New Freeze Plugs all around
    -New Water pump
    -Hughes mild street cam
    -Gasket match Intake and Intake ports on heads
    -HP Manifolds
    -TTI Dual Exhaust

    Joe looks as attentive and alot more relaxed than when we started mine for the first time! I was quite concerned as I've never done a fresh rebuild then started it for the first time! So glad your's worked out too! Congrats! You're reaction at 11:40 was about the same as mine!

      I can’t say it enough, Joe REALLY knows his way around these old Chryslers, he has done more of these initial starts than he can count between his own and friends, he really is like a Mopar Doctor the way he examines and tunes these things.
      Yes, I’m really glad Kevin got my expression on camera, I was SO RELIEVED it was all working as it should!

    Congrats on your successful rebuild, I'm sure you'll notice better performance from that 440 now. Between this and the new exhaust, you should be in good shape. Your videos and work on this continue to inspire. As far as the carburetor, I have always been partial to Carters (and their Edelbrock descendents) but that's a matter of personal taste. Good luck with the carb & tuning.

    • @beernburnouts440
      @beernburnouts440 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was forcing the choke open to let more air in ... it was running super rich (to much fuel) and we needed to get 20 to 30 minutes of run time over 2000 Rpm to brake in the cam. Carb tuning will come soon the guys have fixed the roof leak and vinyl top . Stay tuned! (Kevin)

  • @taysphotography_9322
    @taysphotography_9322 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shes running wayyy to high gotta knock her down. That carb needs adjusting some. And for her not to start back up immediately after cutting it off seems like there is a issue someplace else too. Some fine tweaking she will be great!. My old gal has a 440 im going to be doing some repairs on as time goes on. Head gaskets, exsaust manifolds, and just over all freshing up.

  • @Cooper1

    What does the hammer on the carb do, other than confuse the non mechanically inclined like me?

    • @ric0000
      @ric0000  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OK- so first off, excellent question. Probably wasn’t really explained well in the video, but the carb was dumping more gas into the engine than it should have been. Now, during a break-in scenario like we had, the carburetor isn’t perfectly adjusted since we made changes to the engine, and it’s always better to have too much gas (too fat) than not enough (too lean) if you had to pick. Joe thought (we later found out was not the case) that the floats in the carburetor were stuck, and by tapping on it with a hammer would unstick them. This can commonly happen after a carburetor has sat unused for a year or more like mine was during this rebuild. We did later find out that the floats were fine, but other metering rods and seals may have been causing the issue.

    • @Cooper1
      @Cooper1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the explanation, and all the videos. I have a 1966 Imperial Convertible (440) that likely has a stuck or burned exhaust valve but I'm inspired by your vids to go through the motor myself. (and that repaint in Chry Turquoise would be nice too). Looking forward to your next video.

      @@joesgarage9953 Thank You for saving it from a derby guy. I am a C body guy from days of old. It hurts my heart to think of how many beautiful C bodies have died at the hands of those sorts. I know it's a part of American history in general, but willful destruction is a fringe behaviour you can see anytime the masses start to riot in places like Baltimore, LA, and Ferguson MO.
      Everyone has a deep seated dark side that can be brought to the surface by the right catalyst,, but plain old destruction, for the sake of chaos, is awful on these old classics.
      I have a 66 300 two door that is just bitchin, and a 68 300 Convertible, both cars are savagely sinister looking with 8 inch wheels and 275/60/15's on the front end and 295/50/15's on the rear, still with room to spare.
      Subbed when you showed up on my suggested list. Hope you are still loving the 300 experience. It's a bitchin ride. Very cool that you went with the proper turquoise on the 440. Looking for more content as you get a chance. Godspeed in 2020 pandemic.

    • @joesgarage9953

      You can “flush” the hard lines with brake cleaner and a blow gun. But if the rubber hoses and cylinders are old, I’d replace them.

    • @ric0000
      @ric0000  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, as you probably have seen from this video and previous, our shop neighbor wrote “please paint” on the manifolds. There are two reasons and I’m not even going to lie; 1) laziness 2) Even after blasting and high-temp painting after a little while the manifolds end up starting to rust anyways, so I figured I wouldn’t bother.
      If I could do it again, sure, it’d be worth it to blast and paint, but honestly I’m just glad I have the HP and not the original manifolds on there.
