    I use my mousepad because literally all of the mice i use (optical or laser, cheap or expensive) don't seem to work AT ALL on any surface but a mousepad. Without the mousepad, the cursor just jumps around on the screen or gets stuck as if I were using a ball mouse. So, yes, I still need a mousepad.

    • @xenonram
      @xenonram 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That makes zero sense. Not working _optimally_ is much different than "not work AT ALL." I've never come across a optical/laser mouse that didn't work on pretty much every surface. From my bed sheets, to the top of my jeans, to the center console in my truck. They always work quite well. Not optional, but quite well.

    The Fellowes mouse pads with Gel wrist rests (the rectangular ones, not the weird bulbous ones) used to be the best, they were so soft and comfortable, but then they switched manufacturing from the US to China and they turned stiff and cheap. Yes. My mouse feet got ruined when it wasn't on a mousepad. The regular wooden surface I had at the time scraped it up and flattened the rubber grip on the mouse(G502) and it is in a bad state. Then I got a mousepad and been fine ever since.

    Yes is total need if you use on certain surfaces: If you use a optical/laser mouse over a white surface, if you use over some kinds of gloss surfaces, if you use on a transparent glass surface or semitransparent one and finally in some rugged ones. Mostly the performance not using a mousepad is far worse in all these examples, sometimes is extremely worse and in some few examples as already was remember in the comments the mouse could don't work at all if you don't use a mousepad/"makeshift mousepad".

    Sun workstations at university needed metal mousepads with grid printed on them. They would not track if the pad was not in the right orientation. SGI workstations had almost identical but incompatible pads, that would make you thin the mouse was broken if interchanged. Hilarity ensued when this was figured out and pads randomly exchanged. Pretty soon all mousepads were marked on the backside.

    if your someone like me you cant really use a mouse pad because of eather limited space and/or limited mousepad. for games where you have to spin multiple times you will more want to use a wider mousepad then a thinner one in first person games that way you can spin around multiple times more then once. there is downsides to having a mouspad depending on the surface type aswell as the type of mouse and mouspad you get. if you get a big one you will need a big desk if you get one thats too big it will just hang off and if you get one too small you will not have enough mousepad space... thats why i stopped using my mousepad myself
