You know what crazy innovative idea they could have done with this that would have made the ps5 pro a ground breaking must have console for gamers? Suck it up an realize that consoles will never replace computers. Just cause you have a ps5, doesn't mean you won't also have a gaming computer. So design the PS5 pro to not only be a console but allow it to also act as an external GPU for any computer you own an connect to it via ethernet or thunderbolt. Could even build in that fancy tech that allows you to partition your gpu for multiple devices.
@@HasturBeta No one wants that. There's also many technical problems with what you are suggesting. People literally bought a PS5 to play a better version of PS4 games. People are now buying the PS5 Pro to play those SAME games in even higher quality. Consoles are literally just turning into the equivalent of upgrading a PC. No games to go along with it. Just spending a lot of money to play the same games in better quality.
@@GeorgeNoiseless The ps5 pro is not for everyone just like ps4 pro was not for everyone it only had 14% or 20% of the market in 2020 by time the ps5 2 year came around the ps4 pro had a 40% market due to price dropping Sony isn't concerned about public opinion-they know they'll secure that 14% profit again. That's exactly why they made this move. I heard the same complaints when the PS4 Pro launched, and it was only $100 more. Back then, people were hesitant to buy it too.
PS5 was 500€ at launch with stand and disk drive. PS5 pro will be 950€ at launch with stand and disk drive. ($1047) That’s a 90% increase is price for an alleged 45% increase in performance 4 years later! Moore’s law definitely failed this one. The weirdest part is they didn’t show us what to do with it. They failed to show a single game I haven’t finished already.
To put it into perspective the PS4 Pro was 400 dollars while the PS5 Pro is 700, with the vertical stand and disc drive sold separately so will probably reach closer to 900. Absolutely insane
I literally got my ps4 pro like a year or two after release for $250 and still ran into several of the issues the base ps4 had. The $700 price tag on this is fucking ridiculous. Just the fact that I had to replace my Liquid Metal exactly the same with my ps5 as I did with the ps4 tells me these consoles are worth no more than $100 extra for each new generation. “Next generation” yet I still need to do the same maintenance to fix the same problems the last gen had.
The no disc drive is just wild. I say this as someone who only really plays digital. A "pro" version should be the absolute best version of a piece of Tech and that would include a disc drive.
being able to have my games on Disc is why I still liked playing on console during the PS4 era, even though at that time I already had a good PC and played the majority of games there. I was ok with a slightly cheaper only digital version existing, as an option for those who only play digital anyhow. But if it's the default I see no reason to own a console anymore.
Right? Like this would've made kinda sense to cost $700 if it had all of that and maybe a game or 2 but the fact it's just a digital console without stand and disc drive is wild. Does it have a controller or its sold separately too? 😭

If they didn't specifically tell me, I wouldn't have even noticed that the image on the ps5 pro is "more crisp". Because, and this might be a surprise to you Sony, people actually MOVE in their games while playing. No one just stands still and looks at the damn grass.
@MJ-revered You are in the VAST minority. Outnumbered anywhere between 100x-500x. So marketing a "new" $700 disc-less console to that minority, would be like marketing Concord to a competitive hero shooter base for $40...
The PS5 Pro is the console they promised us the PS5 would be. Then when there’s a slight price drop and people decide to buy it in 2 years, they’ll announce the PS6 that will definitely have 4K VRR, making it the console we all have been waiting for. This is not worth $700, that’s freaking crazy.
They are conditioning the public to accept paying $700 for the PS6. The idiots already accepted the $600 entry price for the PS5, $70 for games at launch + DLCs... hell, either you people take a stand now or the hobby is going to implode
I remember i got an invite to buy a ps5 5 months after release, i bought the ps5 and then set my sights on a LG OLED tv to keep up with the ps5's marketed "120 fps." I have yet to see most games run at 120 frames per second on the ps5. I bought the ps vr2, dualsense edge, and the portal. Those are some useful and fair products at their price points. The vr2 only is useful for gran turismo 7 as it really is a whole new experience racing with the vr2. The dualsense edge is a 10/10 indestructable beast. Portal is okay but could be better. If the ps5 pro had 90 fps locked in for performance mode id buy it but not with what theyre promising which isnt even 60fps locked in.
@@chuy3840 The portal is not useful and fair, c'mon now. A glorified Wii-U screen. Did you know you could buy a unlocked Switch even cheaper and it can "mirror" the PS5 just fine? Yep
The whole things just reeks of corpo dumbassery. I really want Sony to get held to the flames like they deserve by the gaming community. Not only do they have the audacity to spike the price high but on top of that they removed key elements of a console to sell separately to make the price EVEN higher. WHO'S bright idea was it to remove the disk drive and sell it separate for 80 dollars?! ESPECCIALLY with the whole right-to-own controversy that Sony is embroiled in in regards to digital purchases. This has just reached batshit levels of unthinkable, that this kind of thing must've passed many desks leading up the reveal. And the cherry on top of this cake is the fact that there are basically no games for the PS5 to even warrant a stronger console. Sony just pushed their playerbase into becoming PC gamers, hilarious!
With Monster Hunter Wilds being cross play, I might just upgrade my computer and get it on PC instead. Obviously a PC is a much more robust system vs a PS5. It's just more bang for my buck. I can already play PS5 games on the original model.
why would i spend $700 for a console when i can buy a GPU that trashes on Ps5 performance like the 4070 Super or 7900XT. Just $100 more u can get 4070 Ti Super, have Sony lost their minds?😂
The recent news from Playstation is pretty funny. - Shut down Concord after 2 weeks - Leadership openly says "We don't have any IP" - Announce new version of their current console that boasts better graphical fidelity at a ridiculous price - Increase the price of their base controller without addressing the stick drift problems All of this occurs at the same time Astro Bot releases aka their highest scoring PS5 exclusive that pays homage to the vast history of Playstation IP over the years, doesn't require a super computer to play, and only costs $60.
Astro Boy costing 60 is not a great look. That’s the price of a “base” AAA release like Elden Ring…It’s a nice game but the price imho isn’t really attractive

PS4 pro gave us 4k PS5 pro gives us slightly better background textures, costs $700, no disc drive, “vertical stand sold separately”. What the heck? They only JUST stopped making their games playable on the PS4. Let’s see what the PS5 can actually do before making absolutely HORRID decisions like this.
Fr by the time the ps4 pro came around we had titles that really tested the ps4s limits so that upgrade was needed because the jump from pa3 graphics and worlds to late ps4 graphics was huge. But since the ps5 release there hasn't been a game that upgraded from the graphics of like tlou2. And performance wise spiderman 2 ran at 60fps no frame drops with raytracing and no loading times. What do we need a pro for? Is the loading time for fast travel gonna go from 1 second to .9? Am I gonna see the outline of graphity 300 meters away slightly better? That doesn't warrant that price
PS4 pro gave us fake 4K but it was still 4k. Faster CPU clock speed an extra 1gb of ram to help with the lag on the Home Screen. An extra USB port on the back. Boost mode and supersampling and they redesigned the light bar on the controller. PS5 Pro here’s some extra textures at 60fps.
It was just as bad in retrospect though. Because they really had us just replay the game games we already played through. Which we justified, because it looked better…..which if your a single player is wild

So basically, PS5 Pro is Performance and Fidelity mode at the same time. Which means that in terms of visuals and excluding frame rate, the original PS5 will be able to produce the exact same image of a PS5 Pro but at less frames. So for those (like me) who are okay with playing on Performance mode and don’t really care for the differences obtained by playing in Fidelity mode, don’t buy the PS5 Pro. Simple. There’s nothing “new” that we haven’t seen before here.
Your right the base PS5 will do the same as the Pro PS5 but with some limitations like 30fps in Fidelity mode and blurry objects in Performance mode. But really you won’t notice it once you start playing a game it’s such a small upgrade. Some people are still using the PS5 on 1080p TVs so the Fidelity mode won’t really show much because they can’t display 4k.
Yep- there’s no difference with performance on PS5. I like a visually stunning game in which I’ll stop every now and then and look at the surroundings, but this is hardly any difference and ps5 is gorgeous already. Don’t forget that more and more games are struggling to have a consistent 60 fps (Black Myth, FF 7 Rebirth, Outlaws,…). The PS5 PRO is also supposed to deal with that.
Hard to justify purchasing a console anymore if these are the differences they’re marketing. As a lifelong console gamer, PC is looking more and more sensible
As both a console and PC gamer I stop buying console since last gen . There is really no difference except in price. But with the current trend the price gap difference is closing.

Remember back in 2006, when people thought the PS3 was overpriced, and Sony had some difficult years, until they learned how to be more humble? What happened ? Did both Sony forget the lesson and people forget how to teach them that ?
Yeah.. the Sony fanboys gotta "stick it to Xbox" no matter the, apparently literal, cost. Standing on principles? What are those? Their only principle is to make it outsell Xbox. This has always been the appeal of Xbox, at least in my opinion. Sure, maybe it has slightly lower framerate, sure maybe some years it has less games or a couple slightly graphically worse games, but the Xbox consoles have always been so much cheaper than their PS counterpart, and I think that's why Xbox fans love getting Xboxes so much.. you just get more for your money. PS1 Price: $300 // PS2 Price: $300 // Xbox Price: $300 PS3 Price: $600 // Xbox 360 Price: $400 PS4 Price: $400 // Xbox One Price: $500 PS5 Price: $500 // Xbox Series X/S Price: $500/$300 Aside from the stupidity of Xbox's foray in to the Kinnect (which they somehow thought justified being $100 more than PS4), Xbox has often been cheaper than the PS - and you really don't lose that much for it, not as much as the hardcore Sony fanboys would want you to think anyway. I think the ball is very much in Xbox's court now. Of course, they've already done their mid-gen refresh but if they were being smart, they'd definetely look in to making sure the next-gen console, or any future this-gen updates, are significantly cheaper. Then again, Microsoft are also a greedy corporation, so I don't expect too much.
No, PC's started becoming a dominant force in gaming and often cost 1000 dollars for a mid-high end build. PS5 Pro is meant to compete with PC, it's really as simple as that
@@Juanguar Good luck finding a $700 PC that does what the Pro does then 😂😂 any decent PC that will do what the pro does will cost more, but it's alright, keep spouting "just buy a PC", ignorance is bliss I suppose
@@reveragew You could always wait until there are more disc drives. Noone said you had to get it right away. Especially, if you already have a console to play all them games on.
Forget 30fps vs 60fps. We should be getting 90-120fps at this point. That should be the norm in the industry. Devs and executives at these companies doesn't get that people prefer core fluid gameplay over high definition pretty graphics
And you'd need to spend a lot more money for that. Look at the GPU market for PCs. Look at inflation in the economy and issues with chip manufacturing from COVID times. No way would you get that performance for $700. My pc that plays cyber punk at 120fps in 4k is £1500 with all the components... The GPU was £800 alone. This is just how much things cost now.
Honestly I can't stand either of you. I'd take 30 FPS 1080p for the rest of my life if the depth of interaction and scope of detail improves. Both of those have inched forward in favor of polish and I'd rather see mechanics that actually feel next generation. All of you polish fans have ruined gaming progress.
I think 90 to 120 fps is for PC gaming. Consoles would be too expensive. People that really want that performance will usually buy a PC. We don't want consoles going for 1.5 k
Imagine thinking that 30fps in 2024 is a good idea. The DreamCast ran @ 60fps...... However the tech has improved 10x fold. These companies have lost touch on reality.
Frames aren’t everything, I agree that when possible a higher fps is better, and modern consoles (that aren’t the switch) should almost always achieve those frame rates unless they aren’t optimized.
Cerny lied about the PS5. What did he lie about with the PS5 Pro? Also, have to laugh at the idea that Death Stranding will be some kind of visual leap. The game uses the Decima Engine, which is already more optimised than the majority of games out there and we already had Forbidden West on PS5. It will look as good as Forbidden West and no better. Guaranteed. We don't need a PS5 pro, we need developers to optimise their games and stop trying to fix frame rate with AI upscaling and anti-aliasing which makes modern games look blurry as hell!
19:48 Inflation aside, consider: the PS1 launched for $300 when a decent PC cost $2000. Today, a good gaming PC costs roughly the same as a console. And a PC does so much more than gaming. That's the real competition.
Yeah, and this is competing with PC, and considering your statement a modern PC would cost as much as a console: the PS5 Pro, because a PC that will do what the pro does will still cost ballpark a $1000, and even past that several hundreds over time for new components.
I actually disagree. I have medium PCs for my whole life and never had a problem playing most games. I might have missed some great games but i had others to keep me company.
Conversed it actually would be like 850$, its bad for Americans, but europeans are beyond f****d. Nobody in germany or europe would want to pay 800€ for a console, and to have the nerve to not include a disc drive and a friggen stand, is so beyond me im actually doubting its real. What did they think about Europeans?
@@kingdongwun1740 ahahah what the actual fuck. What a joke. Was literally gonna buy it on release since i still need one. But for this price and these minor improvements. No thanks.
This is absurd, they're selling a console that still has no game to the point they had to show footage from games that are for the most part crossgen games. Also, they're promising what they kinda already promised when the base PS5 was launched but then everyone said "oops, we were wrong, developers can't actually do it" and now they want us to pay an absurd amount of money for it without certainty that this time it's going to pan out. So the question is, what's the point of having a console anymore? Most "exclusives" made it already on PC, more will make it in the foreseeable future. I'm from Europe, a good pc average cost nowadays is 1k euros, where all of these features are not considered enhancements but the bare minimum. Literally, I didn't buy a PS5 and bought an old computer ( I play mostly sim racing games and the most important ones never made it to console) with a 9th gen core i7, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, 32 gb of ram and a 512 SSD for 700 euros, 100 euros less than what the PS5 pro is going to cost here and I can already do almost everything they are promising and I can't do it all just because I'm CPU limited, which this new model will be as well. 😅 Guys, if you still don't have a PS5 just buy a PC at this point, the whole benefit of owning a console has been completely erased by this 9th generation of consoles that will be remembered as a scam.
Sim.
4:19 actually, all three of those things are the same thing since they’re all reliant on the GPU, so the one improvement is a larger gpu, no cpu upgrade.
There is no CPU upgrade, because the original GPU was so bad that it didn't even cap the Zen2 CPU, and same with this rendition. That does not bode well.
Yes and No. The original ps5 gpu was bad BUT when you play at higher resolutions the CPU doesn't need to work as hard and the load bears more on the GPU instead so it makes sense to prioritise the gpu. Regardless this console is basically a ps5 with a better gpu slapped in and the disk drive and stand removed. Rip off...
I don’t care for GTA so it’s going to take a new first party studio game from the likes of guerilla games, naughty dog, Santa Monica or sucker punch that I can’t get on ps4. Really I’m looking for a price drop because there hasn’t been enough next gen only games to justify dropping $500 for a ps5 much less $700
8:19 lol the only difference I see is that "fidelity mode" doesn't downscale as much before doing their DLSS thing. Neither of them are a straight up render, both downscaled to 900 or lower.
I really just want to know who this is for? Anyone who’s going to blow big wads of cash is going to dump it into gaming PCs, and anyone who really wants a console will look for a cheaper option. Like the one that is currently available for less than half the price.
@@ilikeshibaYeah IF they had something to show it off, but they don’t even have a game to pair with it that makes it attractive, they say a sucker is born every minute, I think that’s who this is for. You really want to play the last of us again so you can see better looking grass? 😂
This generation of consoles was not a big enough leap. The Ps5 Pro is the power Ps5 should have been at launch. The focus on 4k was a huge mistake ( PS5 Pro still won'thandle 4k games at 60fps). I think more progress could have been made in overall game design if the devs targeted 1080p with all the bells and whistles.
So if you have a large collection of PS4/5 games on the disc you need to spend a total of £800 to play them on the PS5 Pro. £700 for the console and an additional £100 for the disc drive.. that’s insane!!! And they couldn’t be bothered to include the vertical stand? What the F

At 22:08 i'm 95% sure they would have shown a trailer for something with the enhanced visuals if they had anything new to show. The fact that they only showed older and ancient(at this point) titles tells me it really wont be that impressive moving forward. I think consoles peaked pricewise for the hardware offering at ps5 and series X. At this point we should all just get PCs.
The only problem with the PS5 Pro is the price. The upgrades are decent for a mid-gen refresh. If they made it for the same price target as the PS5 and gave the base PS5 a price cut, this would have been received completely differently.
But how? If you look at an equivalent pc GPU, you'll see that this is actually a good deal in terms of performance. They would be losing 300/400 per console to make this at 500. They'd need to sell 6+ games just to break even.
@@jambononi that's why consoles don't need to have upgrades with the current landscape of gaming. As long as we don't get groundbreaking improvements in these games we won't need an upgrade that's gonna run my already perfectly performing games the same way
Assuming the disc drive sold seperately works with the PS5 Pro, including taxes, a PS5 Pro + disc drive would cost me about $1300 Canadian. I have not bought a PS5 yet as I was waiting for a price drop. I think except for the next Switch (with my meh PC), I'm sitting this generation out.

@@LiveEnd06is it competing with high end pc’s though? At that point for the same price you could get a pc that outperforms the ps5 pro whilst also able to complete other tasks.. @@chingsauce858 I mean the way I see it is A. Pro is the same size as the slim, and the slim didn't have a stand and is fine without it, B. The PS5 pro rn is like an 800-900 dollar investment, and for me a PC would be the same, not to mention how much I'd need to upgrade components over time which would end up costing a lot more than the pro by the end of it. PS4 pro gave us 4k
PS5 pro gives us slightly better background textures, costs $700, no disc drive, “vertical stand sold separately”.
@@jonwifebeaterjones6389 Big sad and kinda relieved at the same time. I just got my PS5 this year. Seems like it'll be good for a couple more years easily.
The 4K on the PS4 Pro was upscaled for 4K TV's whereas the standard PS5 has native 4K.
For the PS5 Pro they better make it so that we can play in fidelity 60 fps or 120 fps on performance for all games.
In Japan, it's essentially $1200. WTF are they on?

No it’s not. Yen to dollars is 845.61, still more expensive but not like that
Yen is very different to US currency, for example I think a can from a vending machine is something like 250 Yen, if you want a good idea of the difference look up how much Yen is equal to $1
It's crazy considering the low to average monthly wage is around $1700 right now due to weak yen. Even considering that despite the lower wages you are left with more money on your hands after taxes, compared to the US. But still, it's too expensive.
My only reason to even consider saving for it would be the announcement of Bloodborne 2, which I doubt will ever happen. What do they want me to buy ps5 pro for? Would help if they gave us an insensitive or two to buy it. So far there's zero.

Well it was the same with ps4….
And PS4 Pro does the same too.....
Yep- there’s no difference with performance on PS5.
I like a visually stunning game in which I’ll stop every now and then and look at the surroundings, but this is hardly any difference and ps5 is gorgeous already. I’m not going to be squinting to look at all the details in the distance while I’m swinging fast in the city, throwing my axe at a giant snake or platforming to save my bot buddies.
Honestly the only reason why someone shouldn't go PC at this point is the price of entry for a good system, but even a mediocre system can run most games.

Yeah.. the Sony fanboys gotta "stick it to Xbox" no matter the, apparently literal, cost.

Aside from the stupidity of Xbox's foray in to the Kinnect (which they somehow thought justified being $100 more than PS4), Xbox has often been cheaper than the PS - and you really don't lose that much for it, not as much as the hardcore Sony fanboys would want you to think anyway.

Of course, they've already done their mid-gen refresh but if they were being smart, they'd definetely look in to making sure the next-gen console, or any future this-gen updates, are significantly cheaper. Then again, Microsoft are also a greedy corporation, so I don't expect too much.

@@jambononimy friend spend 1200 for a 7800x3d and 3070 with 32gb. You can get those results while paying 200 more than a ps5 pro

95% of people don't understand the price of the hardware inside......2tb SSD alone is about £160 for the types of speed the ps5 has....

Yeah, and this is competing with PC, and considering your statement a modern PC would cost as much as a console: the PS5 Pro, because a PC that will do what the pro does will still cost ballpark a $1000, and even past that several hundreds over time for new components.

Rip off...
No disk drive for that price is just an immediate no. I'll keep my PS4 till GTA 6 comes out then I'll get the PS5
Wow, Mark Cerny has full-on evolved into Garth. I keep waiting for him to put up the rock and roll sign and say "Party on Wayne"
I really just want to know who this is for? Anyone who’s going to blow big wads of cash is going to dump it into gaming PCs, and anyone who really wants a console will look for a cheaper option. Like the one that is currently available for less than half the price.

No disc drive
No Pro controller
No digital optical audio or Display Port
No PS3, PS2 or PS1, or PSVR1 backwards compatibility
People bought PS5s at launch based purely on FOMO and paid crazy sums to scalpers. This shouldn't be surprising.
Selling people 6 games wouldn't have been a problem if this were the PS4 days...
