This was from the 4th album 'Deftones' (self-titled) in 2003... 'Hexagram' was another single from this record. Deftones were very candid about how the band was near a breakup during making this album and the tour... Deftones were opening for Metallica in the summer of '03 and they cancelled shows because of the infighting and drug abuse. They made 1 of their best albums 'Saturday night wrist' in 2006... but the band was admittedly fried internally... Chino Moreno (vocals) went off to do an album as Team Sleep, just to get away from the band. Deftones recorded an album 'Eros' in 2008, but then bassist Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident that put him in a coma for years (He died in 2013) ...Deftones decided to start over and recorded their next album ('Diamond eyes' in 2010) from scratch w/ bassist Sergio Vega.
@@sumonjamal1653 Don't get me wrong, I think SNW is a good album, though I definitely rank it near the bottom (that said Gore is the only Deftones album I don't think is super solid). But yeah, I dunno, I have never seen anyone rate SNW as one of their best until just now.
It was an absolutely beautiful video, the cinematography was fantastic especially how it ends with the sun rising and the feedback.. I loved this song it had such a vibe. You just closed your eyes and listened. This was just another example musically why the Deftones were just on another tier than their peers.

I agree that this album is underrated. I hadn't yet discovered Deftones when White Pony released, so this was the album that I got to experience from the start.

Shoegaze Deftones is the best Deftones! This song is absolutely gorgeous, I liked the band before this album came out but when I first saw the video for Minerva something changed for me and I became a fan. My best friend in Uni gave me this album as a birthday gift in 2004 and the whole record blew my mind. When I got into shoegaze at the end of that same year I saw the connection and was amazed. Deftones vocally tried to distance themselves from nu-metal between White Pony and the Self-titled (if memory serves me well) and I would agree as they added influences to their sound that nu-metal bands wouldn't have, as shown in their covers (Cocteau Twins, for instance, or Duran Duran). Different sonic palettes. (Edited for a typo)

This track has such a vibe. I remember being in Coors Stadium (Denver) at a metal festival. The field perched my back perfectly as I watched them perform (Stone Sour, too), and it was a beautiful afternoon/night listening to my favorite bands. Edit: Korn was the headliner of that show. It was The Family Values Tour. I don't put Deftones in the Nu Metal classification.
I remember the first time I heard this song it was actually live during the Metallica Summer sanitarum tour in 2003 in Orlando FL. Mudvayne opened, the Limp Bizkit, then Linkin Park and when Deftones came on, exactly as they started playing this song it started raining all over the us and they continued playing this very bad ass song as the rain was coming down. Oh man it was surreal. Ive always been a Deftones fan since Around the Fur.
There was a town not far from me named "Minerva" so when this song came out I was excited because of that even though it had nothing to do with Minerva Ohio. And Speaking of Ohio, you should do "SP Lit" or "Dead Inside (coming alive performance)" by Chimaira from Cleveland. Criminally underrated

I never really thought Deftones was a Nu Metal band, they had some elements of it on their first few albums, and came up at the time it was exploding on the scene, but I always felt they just got lumped into that group but they are clearly different then typical Nu Metal bands of the time. Always thought of Deftones as their own genre. Especially from White Pony on.

I only wore rock and roll shirts to high school in the 90s. I was a very rebellious teen in the 90s. I had an nirvana shirt that I would wear to school. That said on the back sex drugs and rock and roll.😊 And of course, I got trouble for it. But I didn't give two FFs about it.

That's your fault for thinking Nu-metal is automatically a bad thing. They were a part of a rise of a new style of metal music that was about being very heavy, adding hip-hop/rap touches and being emotionally vulnerable. It was the "New Metal" aka Nu-metal.
