Jerry contributed guitar only. They sent the song to Jerry, and he added his guitar parts to it. If you listen to the outro of the song, you'll hear Stef from Deftones playing the heavy chugging riffs, while Jerry layered his wailing solo parts over it. It works so well and is an element you don't typically hear in a Deftones song.
Jerry in 2015, before the song came out: "Deftones and I have known each other for years, and we’re also under the same management. Chino sent over the song file and I thought it was really great, cool and moody, so I worked on it that night and threw something down. He sent me a file of them jamming the song live, I sent it back with the idea I laid down, and Chino thought it was perfect. I waited until they got back in the studio and then came in and laid it down. So, it was pretty easy, and I think it’s going to be a great song. Chino’s a really talented guy and an amazing frontman, and they’re a band that has a sound that’s uniquely their own. I play the guitar solo and the middle section of the song, and then did some color work on the outro as well. I was originally just going to play the solo, but they wanted me to keep going."
As a long time Deftones fan I am kind of embarrassed to admit it, but this is the first time im hearing this song, really cool! That bass though...love its driving, smooth nature. And the Cantrell solo....ugh....so much greatness in one song.
That guitar solo is one of my all time favorites. It pulls so much emotion and almost tells a story. Not to mention the ending gives me goosebumps every time
Fun side note. The Deftones have a few signature beers they developed with a brewery in CA called Belching Beaver. One of which is an IPA called Phantom Bride, and it’s delicious! If you can find it, try it.
I’m a big fan of both Alice in Chains and Deftones and I just recently came upon this song! I had the same reaction that you guys did, I just got lost in it! You should check out some of Jerry Cantrells solo stuff. 😊 Really enjoy your reactions, you guys are so much fun!
I actually live a mile away from the actual Brewery. You'll find me there a few times a week. And in comparison I like Phantom bride the beer better than the song however when they brought out the Swerve City Beer I liked the song better than the beer. If that makes sense 🤣
Excellent job fellas. Deftones and Korn collabed to cover an Ice Cube song called “Wicked”. Korn and Ice Cube collabed on a song after that called “Children of the Korn”. Korn and Limp Bizkit have a couple different collabos on each other’s albums. Deftones also did a song with Serj from System called “Mein” and Chino was featured on a song with Sevendust called “Bender” that’s absolutely fucking flawless. Chino has worked with sooo many artists it’s a hell of a list
Went to a metal concert. I mean EMO metal. Venue starts playing a country song in between sets. Everyone, I mean EVERYONE was singing and dancing along to the song with as much energy as the metal performances.
This song is from 2016, not the 90s. 😊 As far as genres and sub genres, it’s so subjective. As far as country, I can listen to the occasional song from Chris Stapleton, but that’s it.
Not sure if u guys saw but Deftones and Gojira tour got moved to Spring 2022. May 6th in Atlanta, you two have to go! I'll be rocking in Philly May 13th!!
Chino is featured in a song with Soulfly called Pain. Corey Taylor also is featured in a Soulfly song called Jumpdafuckup. Soulfly is a band that yal Have Not reacted to. Should check them out.
Great video, dudes, as always! Now, although this isn’t rock or metal, it’d be really awesome if you guys were to react to an acappella group called Voiceplay. They’re incredible, but the bass (Geoff Castleucci) has amazing range, and I’d love to see you guys’ reactions to it. Songs like Oogie Boogie’s song and A Little Mermaid Medley are great. He also has solo stuff (of mostly covers) like The Headless Horseman, Sixteen Tons and Misty Mountains Cold!
@@Hollywood6IX Okay, so. It’s hard to classify them, but, like I said, they’re a cappella group which means their music is made purely by the sounds they make, no instruments. So, that normally entails beatboxing to be apart of most acapella, which acts as the percussion, as well as harmonies.
Zac Brown did a song with Chris Cornell, and another one with Dave Grohl Yeah I’ve been a rock and metal fan my whole life… it’s all just rock and metal to me haha. I don’t see the necessity in splitting hairs over sub genres… maybe it’s just me 🤷🏻♀️
Great Song! Yes, that's Jerry! Can't mistake his playing. Not sure about vocals but I'd bet he's in there too. Again, Great Track! I never get tired of Chino and his dreamy voice.
Hey trash-talkers hope you read this. You should check out Korn - Wicked from the Life is Peachy album. FYI it's a cover of a 1992 Ice Cube song. It features vocals by Chino Moreno of the Deftones. Chino is rapping in the song and it's good. Keep the great videos coming guys . ✌
"Blue moon" by Deftones on B-Sides and Rarities features B-real from cypress hill because Chino did a part of "rock-superstar" for cypress hill if not mistaken They cover simple man and have acoustic versions on that album also
The songs actually called Black Moon, it's definitely one of my least favorite Deftones songs. It doesn't even sound like a Deftones songs, more of like a Cypress Hill song.
Genesis, Urantia, Spell of mathematics, Pomeji just to name a few more bangers from the new album. I really wanna hear them do all the deftones catalogue.
This is my song... I came out on an important date for me n it explains exactly the person in my life suffering from so many issues. Being married to someone who cant be there.
Also, this has absolutely nothing to do with Deftones but it’s Ringo Starr’s birthday… and since he’s always been about spreading positivity and love, I’m doing the same ‘And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make’ Peace and love y’all ✌🏽❤️
Love your video's guys. Been following you since TOOL Sober. Quick question, more technical, with exporting your video's, do you check your audio levels?? Are they in the red, because it always sounds so distorted, sounds like it's being clipped (or is it your mic).
When it comes to country check out outlaws till the end by devildriver. A lot of outlaw country done metal style. Copperhead road should be the first. Listen to the original then go straight into devildriver

@@Hollywood6IX it's definitely one of the best songs from their album "Diamond Eyes". I second this
Jerry in 2015, before the song came out:
"Deftones and I have known each other for years, and we’re also under the same management. The song was written by Deftones, lyrics, riffs and all. Jerry just came in and killed his solo.
As always. Jerry is so underrated in the world of best guitarists.

My favorite Deftones song by far
This song is a masterpiece
I'd love some heavy Deftones like Elite next.
This collaboration was just a few years ago. From the Gore album which was out in 2016.

Deftones leathers is fucking awesome, the right intense level😂
Some new shit....Deftones-Genesis.
Absolute Banger!
Love this song, the combination of Jerry and Chino is perfection!!! Now you should do Headless or Pompeji off the new album. 🖤
Don't forget The Spell of Mathematics and Genesis.
Did you also know that deftones has a line of beer with belching beaver and they have a beer called phantom bride
So good. I tried Belching Beaver when it first came out. Not a huge fan of beer but it was really good.

Serj Tankian did some guest singing on a live version of Tool's song Sober once, if I remember correctly.
