The problem is simple market dynamics sadly. These games are long out of print so the supply cannot increase and prices are set by the few people selling. When the whole retro game pump happened during COVID it set price expectations up which discourages people from selling these games at what used to be normal prices. Now, the only thing that can cause the crash is a sudden increase in supply or a sudden drop in demand. Both are normally quite unlikely but the former is known to happen from time to time. Sadly however, we are seeing a sort of across the board increase here which is a lot harder to induce without the same kind of widespread economic catastrophe that caused it in the first place.

Certainly no one feels the price should stay unrealistically inflated right? I do appreciate the Italian company being so open when anyone asked. They are affecting the market but aren’t doing some of the watta games shenanigans to speculate and mess with the market anymore then finding a bunch of unopened games already will.
I can see them for a lot cheaper here being sold locally, but seeing how much many places price them its insane to me. 2018 I got many Ps2 with games for nothing even when it was already retro. We have to remember it has sold the most units in the world, so I don’t see why it would climb up in price
Here's hoping this will also plummet the NA copies as well. I've always kinda wanted to try this game as I've been getting more into PS2 horror titles as of late.
Very interesting video and I have seen alot of these italian games on different consoles for older games pop up claiming to be authentic but Im skeptical
I'm practically tripping over copies of Zombie Zone in my area. There's also evidently been a reprint of Graffiti Kingdom as I've seen a couple of sealed ones.
So yeah it seems they managed to somehow find an actual shipment of this item that must have gotten lost in storage, bought it as it was never claimed and are now selling them. However if anyone wants to have a copy, this is still probably the cheapest they will ever have a chance to own one. So i would get it if i can. i just did :)

Never understood the wild high prices on ebay, not just for retro games, but also for new things. I saw a rule of rose in a cex window about a month ago and I’m sure it was at least around £525 or even £600 I can’t remember but it did sell. Now it’s currently at £395 so already dropped again. I thought those copies were for sure a scam being sealed and having sold hundreds. Been on the hunt since I was like 8 and searching through every charity shop but I stopped when I stopped finding games that I wanted for good prices.
No they are 100% legit if not CEX would of not dropped it and it is from an offical seller in italy. We actually got lucky that they found a lost shipment but you have to hurry it seems they are running out and they have been steadily increasing the price by an average 10e per day.
I'm in NA and bought Rule of Rose shortly after release, on sale even. Played it once and it lived on my shelf ever since. At the time of purchase, no one I knew had played or even heard of this game. I only just found out a couple of days ago that it's a rare collectors item. I still have my original NA copy, complete in box with registration. I fired it up on my old PS2 slim and it runs flawlessly. I'm completely torn on whether I should sell it or keep it 🤔
Depends on if you need the money and/or have an emotional attachment to it. If you do keep it, it will be a story. The game you got for a sweet deal. Equally, it sells for so much in NA that I wouldn't blame you for selling it and turning it into several games you want to play.
Retro Games are starting to be forged very accurately. I recently bought reproduction boxes for Wizardry, Might and Magic, and Ultima. And they look brand new. I could easily age them and sell them as authentic but I won't. Just a heads up. This was always going to happen. When things have a high price and are easy to replicate, people were going to
This aint a replica, it is a legit seller with legit copies from having access to one of the recalled shipping containers filled with them. it had about 5000 in it
11:55 But of course is market !manipulation. Why are you ashamed to say it 😁 i mean, it was one of the biggest scandals in videogames but it was mostly ignored since it was one of those inconvenient truths that are mo good for business.
It would be nice to see "Blood Will Tell" sell under $100 for a US or EU copy. Same with "Haunting Ground". Do you remember Gamequest Direct, sir? Back in the day this was a store that actually saw a number of PSOne get reprints. They just straight up PAID Atlus to do it and they reprinted Persona 2 and other titles...I kid you not.
Blood Will Tell is actually a very good game with loads of content, story and awesome gameplay. I can only see that game rise in value. Rule of Rose is simply not a fun game to play..
I bought the one in euros because it worked out much cheaper. Honestly, I could not find anything that separated the 2 listings other than the languages they were in.
Retro games selling for more than $20 just encourages people to mod systems. Let the nerds overpay and display, the rest of us will just download the Rom 😂
I have this game on PAL I brought way back in 2006-07 on eBay it was very cheap like around $20-30, few years later it went up to $60, decades later the price went stupid high, the game itself is ok nothing special, Haunted Ground is better.
Did you enjoy it though? I have been having fun with it so far, even if combat is a bit...janky... The story has me hooked. I am looking forward to continuing it during Friday's stream.
Would you pay that kind of money and then open it to play it? I'd never buy a game I wouldn't even play! I also wouldn't pay that kind of money, especially for a game I wouldn't play. Isn't this game meant to be not very good?
I get that people out there collect sealed copies of games and power to them. But I agree with you, if I am buying a game then I am playing it (especially when it costs this much). The game is supposed to have a good story and atmosphere but falls down in the gameplay department. I quite like the studio behind it so I am looking forward to finally playing it!
The price for the US it will never fall. Because you all started buying now for 300 or 250..You all wanted it huh? So you didn't tell us how many UK titles are there, being so certain.. I subscribed by the way. PS2 rarest title ever, now being debunked? I still don't believe its price in EU will fall, until i see this in ebay.
I wouldn't pay £300 for a brand new sealed ps2 console and every ps2 game launched let alone for one old copy of a ps2 game ... controversial, but the ps2 was 1 of my least favourite consoles completely overrated and looking very very dated now.
Bigger demand in there and with greater gamer population than but less inventory especially for a jp made game. So the prices over there go higher than the PAL vers or JP vers
i am not joking, i will become the punisher for retro collectors, we need one, scalpers are ruining our hobby, shit is not the same after 2020, someone need to be the hero the world needs, i will find them, i will fix the timeline. now being serious, i will start getting REPRODUCTIONS now instead of the original ones, fuck these people, at least the people that do the REPO are fans and do it with love, as long as they dont try to cheat customers saying its s ORIGINAL COPY, it should be respectable imo

They are affecting the market but aren’t doing some of the watta games shenanigans to speculate and mess with the market anymore then finding a bunch of unopened games already will.
Man, this is super interesting. Great work on this vid my dude.
I had a chance to buy it for $40 back in mid 2000s but i didnt buy it cos of animal cruelty scenes
my PS2 has the red blinking lights of death, went to see how much new one cost, damn, price jump, average price about $120.
Not as expensive as Rule of Rose
But it would be nice if someone found a Warehouse full of Haunting Ground copies
I hope Haunting Ground goes down in price so I can buy and play it
Just emulate it. It’s a good game but I wouldn’t pay the extortionate price for it.
my friend has that sealed, some of them might get out if the person he got it from sells more.
@@Security848 I hope so I’d love to play it. I just can’t justify the price it’s at now
@@ontheturningaway I wish it was really super cheap so I could buy and play Haunting Ground. I wish the same for Rule Of Rose too
I'm practically tripping over copies of Zombie Zone in my area. There's also evidently been a reprint of Graffiti Kingdom as I've seen a couple of sealed ones.
So yeah it seems they managed to somehow find an actual shipment of this item that must have gotten lost in storage, bought it as it was never claimed and are now selling them. On one hand this is great as it gives a chance for people to own a copy of this game that for a long time was too expensive to buy for majoirty on the other hand it is terrible for those who overpaid. However if anyone wants to have a copy, this is still probably the cheapest they will ever have a chance to own one. So i would get it if i can. i just did :)
P.S one of my local sellers has a copy of this and are trying to sell it for 599 Euros. They really are trying to get them cheap. to sell for a profit lol.
@@Bird-Birdy-Love Maybe they just arent selling that well. I mean here on the local sites I see several selles trying to sell the same things for 3-5 years now. Also its the EU not the US here most people dont want to pay high for these items.
If someone overpaid that's on them, never buy video games because of the price, but them because you want them. At any price over $150 though, it's probably best left to a free copy off the internet lol.
speculation is what drove these up. Don't pay scalpers!
Love the way you think, man. I completely agree.
Its official now, the opened copy of Rule of Rose is worth more than sealed in 2024.
I got mine today (sealed) for £250... however, I got stung on import tax... charged an extra £65!! Shit!! So, over £300...!
I just bought the last one on Gamespark92! ;-)
Hahaha oh dear
I'd sell it now while you still can, ebay has been flooded with thousands of sealed copies of this for months now..the price is going to go down rapidly.
@@GavinTownsley Nah, I bought it to keep, so I'm just happy to have it. Opened and played it now :)
Same. But still cheaper than a Reddit thread I saw where someone had bought the Italian version for 500+ 🙈
I heard about these a few months ago. Loved the video, i didn't know that much about it but i knew they were real due to friends purchasing them.
There’s a game shop around the corner from me selling this for €700 brand new it originally package.
Never understood the wild high prices on ebay, not just for retro games, but also for new things. Like i bought a $30 action figure & i check the prices 2 weeks later thinking of buying a spare but then its $120 for all the like 400 copies available on ebay? Clearly its either the same seller(s) or its bunch of resellers/scalpers or the original outlet/factory has raised its price. Im happy i still got most of my original games from my childhood, because the last decade prices just gone mental into the absurd.
I am mad I can't get some more PC Engine Mini controllers affordably now. Because they are bar a PC Engine controller with USB. And no don't ask me about the 8BitDo version, I HATE the revisionist look. I just think it looks dumb with the rounded corners and button turbo's instead of the switches.
Great stuff, more content like this would be dope.
XD OMG YOU TELLING ME, i can FINALLY have extra disc..... that someone destroyed on my original copy.... that i still have to this day and scared to play it.
I never really wanted to sell my copy anyway, but I didn't want to see it lose value either.
Yes i noticed a few sealed uk ones in cex but its cheaper on ebay.
I hope it crashes back down below £200.
I’ve seen so many copies sealed on eBay so it’s probably new old stock being released
Thank you for your service on sharing this info as much as you have o7
I wish this happened to the north american version, but that one will remain $650 - $700.
If games, are made to be played you should rather buy game but play using rom.
Great video….now, can you go and start a campaign to find a cache of Kuon titles too please? :)
Why do you only have 55 subs? Your vids are very well done and entertaining.
I agree
98 now
@@HollowRick happy days
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the support.
Retro Games are starting to be forged very accurately.
I recently bought reproduction boxes for Wizardry, Might and Magic, and Ultima. And they look brand new. I could easily age them and sell them as authentic but I won't. Just a heads up. This was always going to happen. When things have a high price and are easy to replicate, people were going to
This aint a replica, it is a legit seller with legit copies from having access to one of the recalled shipping containers filled with them. it had about 5000 in it
GG, consider keeping it sealed!
Thanks! But after spending £250 this will be going in my PS2. For science!
@@gamegaijinI can't wait to see that!
Im a minute in and my guess is the store found a box of rule of rose.
The game really needs a remake I wanna play it
I think the reason why is because many retro gamers are just backing up their games to a hard drive.
11:55 But of course is market !manipulation. Why are you ashamed to say it 😁 i mean, it was one of the biggest scandals in videogames but it was mostly ignored since it was one of those inconvenient truths that are mo good for business.
Cool shirt now the song is stuck in my head
It would be nice to see "Blood Will Tell" sell under $100 for a US or EU copy. Same with "Haunting Ground".
Do you remember Gamequest Direct, sir? Back in the day this was a store that actually saw a number of PSOne get reprints. They just straight up PAID Atlus to do it and they reprinted Persona 2 and other titles...I kid you not.
Blood Will Tell is actually a very good game with loads of content, story and awesome gameplay. I can only see that game rise in value. Rule of Rose is simply not a fun game to play..
Somebody must’ve found some dead stock 😂
Did you buy the one priced in euros? Considering it myself and I am not sure why they have it listed twice for different amounts.
I bought the one in euros because it worked out much cheaper.
Honestly, I could not find anything that separated the 2 listings other than the languages they were in.
@@gamegaijin They are sold by two different branches of the same store and it seems one management decided to price it a bit higher than the other.
i went to check, the games are no less than 1000 now. so no, not becoming affordable. glad i got my game before it became rare.
It's funny I got rule of rose in a ps2 bundle of like 20 games and a system for 8p dollars and then I sold it online for 900
The European version was never very expensive compared to the ntsc version which is still 700 easy for a cib.
Retro games selling for more than $20 just encourages people to mod systems. Let the nerds overpay and display, the rest of us will just download the Rom 😂
With that many sold, it can't be that rare.
I have this game on PAL I brought way back in 2006-07 on eBay it was very cheap like around $20-30, few years later it went up to $60, decades later the price went stupid high, the game itself is ok nothing special, Haunted Ground is better.
Great now the game will spike in a few months from now after these cheap copies are all scooped up
I sold my copy during the pandemic for $600
That definitely isn't the case with the American version
Unfortunately, it seems to have increased in NA
Great news for UK gamers but I can’t play PAL games on my US PS2 console! US copies of Rule of Rose are still outrageously high!😂
I paid 0 dollars to experience rules of rose. Good luck to the rest of y’all tho
Did you enjoy it though? I have been having fun with it so far, even if combat is a bit...janky...
The story has me hooked. I am looking forward to continuing it during Friday's stream.
The PlayStation Ain't Dead Podcast covered this story back in March.
Get ready for more
The price for the US it will never fall.
I ordered one and they sent me two by accident, so cex gave me 330ish for one. And I have another sealed, it’s going to be worthless tho
And now because video it will go back up!
A Polish TH-camr has already opened one of these sealed copies and it looks 100% legit
That is great news! My copy should hopefully be here on Monday.

Because Rule of Roses ain’t fun to play. I’ll keep saying it, games need to be good and rare to catch high prices.
The American versions were always worth more for some reason.
Bigger demand in there and with greater gamer population than but less inventory especially for a jp made game. So the prices over there go higher than the PAL vers or JP vers
Probably come to the switch
All being so sure from the comments, that its price will fall now...
Ok let's see.
I bought one of the listings, i know the price will drop but its so cool to just have one at a cheaper price
Sold my copy like almost 4 years ago for 150 euro or so, oh well covid crap happened
i am not joking, i will become the punisher for retro collectors, we need one, scalpers are ruining our hobby, shit is not the same after 2020, someone need to be the hero the world needs, i will find them, i will fix the timeline.
now being serious, i will start getting REPRODUCTIONS now instead of the original ones, fuck these people, at least the people that do the REPO are fans and do it with love, as long as they dont try to cheat customers saying its s ORIGINAL COPY, it should be respectable imo
Still put of my reach.
Ok, so why the f*ck are some people worried/pissed or whatever because the price are dropping? More people will get the chance to enjoy the game.
Probably upset that isn't considered "rare" anymore but honestly I'm super glad as well
Or the people who bought the game for super expensive price and later hearing news about this
The only people who are pissed are the scalpers who tried to exploit a loophole for more money or bought stock to try to sell em higher, real collectors and gamers are happy with this news.
Only the people who wanted to sell more of their copies are mad, everyone else is happy :D
Japan version complete $264
That's so sad. Imagine you find that game on a flee market and it's the center piece of your collection and now.. it lost a lot of value
