Living in the UK, I had Gregory's Horror Show and it was genuinely amazing. It had some really clever stealth mechanics as you tried to peep through nkeyholes to diacover what was going on. It also had an interesting calendar system going on. If you got caught, youd be chased through the mansion by the dinosaur nurse wielding a giant syringe. She was not at all subtly based on Nurse Rathed from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Great game, criminally underrated. It, and viewtiful joe, would absolutely do a lot better if they were remastered and re-released for a modeen audience.
I played Rogue Galaxy back in the day, & I still love the game. I was just so blown away by how beautiful the game was, & is still to this day. Plus the virtually seamless travel across the planets, with no loading screens. It blew my mind back then. That & learning about how the international version was expanded to the point that it required a dual-layered DVD, wow just, wow, in a good way. The only other dual-layered DVD PS2 game I ever had was Xenosaga 1. When I learned that Rogue Galaxy was being brought to the PS4/PS5, I was super excited. I hope they bring back many other forgotten classics. I think Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirit (my personal favorite strategy game on the PS2) & the Shadow Hearts trilogy should be on this list as well. While the Shadow Hearts trilogy unfortunately petered out by the 3rd game, the whole trilogy was amazing.

@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 Rogue Galaxy isn't perfect, but what it brought to the table was certainly ahead of its time. Like with the seamless travel with minimal loading screens. While the story & music weren't anything too special, they were decent. And the combat, I wouldn't call it boring. Easy to forget that some of your guns had a bit of different effects. And costume changing doing "nothing". Most of the game's cutscenes were in real time, meaning that your current costume would show up in most scenes of the game. I did beat Rogue Galaxy back on the PS2, so I might be a bit biased, but it's 1 of those games that you don't forget in a good way.

I have a love in my heart for one forgotten PS2 game. It's called "Raw Danger" and it's actually apart of a series of called "Disaster Report" and the released like the second one on PS2 in the states as "Raw Danger." They actually still make the games under its original title, they're all a little odd, but Raw Danger is genuinely one of my favorites and it stays hidden in the PS2 library.

I'm so happy to see someone talking about Gregory Horror Show! It's one of mine and my friends favourite games and we often revisit it. As young teens we were so horrified of getting caught and having to see the 'horror shows' even though they weren't actually scary. The atmosphere of the game just makes it so terrifying. I would genuinely recommend people check it out if they can. I've not played anything else like it. Also if anyone wants to know any other details about it I would love to share. It's so rare we see anyone have any idea what it is.
YO ROGUE GALAXY!!! That was one of my favorite games on the PS2 XD I played it and Dragon Quest 8 SO MUCH, as well as the Tenchu games hehe It's so nice seeing someone actually talk about Rogue Galaxy, i almost never see it brought up in videos.
Rule of Rose was a PS2 horror game that was so controversial (in Europe, specifically) that it was banned in New Zealand, Australia, & the United Kingdom. It's got one helluva story although the combat is the jankiest. Never owned a PS2 but I'd love to emulate it because the secondhand prices are INSANE! * thanks to KyleCrossGaming for correcting me, I thought it never made it to the States because Sony didn't wanna publish it
I grew up on Gregory Horror Show as a kid with a PS2. My grandad got it for me on a whim as it had our surname in the title. Adore this game and completed it alot. They keep teasing with a sequel for years now along with that recent mobile game of it since there was many characters they couldn't put into the game. It's also semi rare price wise also physicslly.
I wanna say thanks for the PSP one. I had fun playing Kenka Bancho. The Simple Series 2000 is a prime example of unknown (and awful) games for the PS2.
Shadow of Rome is 1 of my Fav PS2 GAMES! I rented that thing multiple times from blockbuster, even though I managed to beat it completely each time I rented it, it didn't bother me, I loved the combat and hacking off limbs to use as weapons, and how it BASICALLY used the entire story from Gladiator with Russell Crowe down to the end fight with the white armored emperor lol Such a fun RPGish beatum up
Rogue Galaxy is my favorite PS2 JRPG (maybe second to Kingdom Hearts 2). I've played Dragon Quest VIII; I've played FFX & FFXII; I've played Tales of the Abyss & Legendia; I've played both Dark Clouds etc. I've played lots of the big name JRPGS and smaller name ones too, and Rogue Galaxy is still my favorite. The music is incredible, story is fun, setting is beautiful, and the characters are all great. One of my all time favorite video game songs is in this game, Shadow of the Sun by Tomohito Nishiura. It's the reason I started playing Classical guitar many, many years ago. Thanks for covering this game, Austin!

I can't express enough how impactful the release of this video was for me today. My animal companion passed away yesterday, and I've been feeling emotionally distraught and lonely ever since. I had just heated out the last meal my companion and I were going to share together; as I intended to eat it while she sat on my lap. We loved watching TH-cam videos together when we ate, and many times that included the catalog of Austin Eruption. It is really special that there was a new video to watch today, as I has this meal for the first time alone. Thank you for continously producing enjoyable, light hearted, gaming content. It can be incredibly positively impactful; for the right people at the right times.
I never expected to see anyone ever talk about World Destruction League Thunder Tanks, but it makes sense that if it was going to be anyone it'd be Austin. I had this game growing up, but never really understood how to play it so it was just left in my bin of PS2 games unplayed for years. Also amazing to see Radiata Stories brought up here not long after a friend of mine finished playing through it twice for both endings and would not stop singing its praises. Ok what is this video turning into cause Smuggler's Run was my absolute JAM as a kid and one I still love to play every now and then. I rented it all the time growing up and forgot about it for years before finding it at a retro gaming store for like $5 or less and fell in love with the game all over again.
I love Greggory Horror Show! I only played it a few years ago since I'm not European but it's fun tone, spooky atmosphere and wild characters cemented it as one of my favorites! Speaking of Capcom published PS2 games that only came to Japan and Europe, I also love Glass Rose! It was Cing's first game and like their Nintendo published adventure games it's fantastic
When you mentioned tanks with the WDL part I was expecting to hear about Seek & Destroy a game about sentient tanks fighting some form of war. Had almost forgot that WDL existed.
Shadow of Rome is incredible! I still resent Dead Rising to this day because I love this game so much :( Urban Chaos was in Hitman: Blood Money as a demo and I replayed that first level so much LMAO I loved every second of it and then I bought the game. And of course, Rogue Galaxy. What an insane gem of a game that more people definitely need to check it out.
Wild Tanks, 10K Bullets, Red STAR, Rogue Galaxy, NeoContra, UrbanChaos - Austin is on the roll in this video with his selection of old good games on PS2
Road trip adventure was a staple in my house as a kid. And as someone who played it regularly I can say that all of what you said is true. There was a handful of songs that played on the radio in that game that were by some obscure bands (2 different bands from what I can remember) and those bands are now two of my favourite obscure bands that I listen to regularly
Radiata Stories mentioned! I love that game so much and I remember asking you about it forever ago on stream. I'm glad you took any time at all to look at it and mention it in a video.
I don't care what anyone says. The OST for The Adventures of Cookie and Cream goes hard AF. I love showing it off to people because they're always caught off guard by how bizarre it is. The composer, Kota Hoshino also did Evergrace's and Forgotten Kingdom's OSTs which are notorious for how wacky they are. While I'm at it, I totally recommend his band FreQuency because the Armored Core OSTs are fantastic and way less of an auditory assault like a lot of Hoshino's early work.
probably not mentioned, but sky odyssey is a really cool PS2 game. You fly an unexplored island and have to complete missions. It's got a good soundtrack and is just overall a really cool game about flying and avoiding natural obstacles. Such as hurricanes, climbing mountains, dumping fuel, refueling from a train. If you have any interest in flight games and like pilot wings, I really recommend it.
Bujingai is my favorite PS2 oddity. I always considered the PS2 years to be surprisingly Gacktful with Bujingai, MGS2, and FFVII Crisis Core all having him involved.
The PS2 had such a great variety of games, def one of my favorite consoles of all time, some of these I've played others I haven't. So was nice to get some light put on games that seem interesting and unique. Love all the content Austin, can't wait to see what you have in store for us next.
I LOVED Road Trip Adventure to death as a kid and still do, the world may be limited and empty by today's standards but it was HUGE, the characters all adorable and charming and there's an insane amount of car bodies/customization for the time. Tons of goofy bodies too like Ducks and mascot parade floats. The racing balance is horrible though, it's like impossible to win a race until you get a certain part and then once you do they don't stand a chance. And then you get to bring a rocket jet to the race which is fucking laughably OP.
I always love the topics you bring up, keep it up. Every video has my interest. Honestly, Whiplash was also a very obscure PS2 game. I remember it because they made 3 flash games behind it (named after the main characters of the game, Spanx and Redmond 1 to 3 respectively) to promote the "upcoming" game (which was Whiplash). I actually really like it, but I know it's definitely not for everyone. It looked ugly and sometimes even played a bit ugly but it was a lot of fun, especially when the main gimmick of the game is wrecking stuff. Basically as the weasel (Spanx) and the rabbit (Redmond, who is basically your weapon due to him being indestructable because of the chemicals that were put in the makeup that was being tested on him) are trapped in a lab where animal testing is basically it's entire factor of it's existence. What you gotta do is rescue those animals, bash the scientists and guards down to the ground and wreck the entire lab to bits so that it's net worth goes down the drain.
Ah maaaan, thanks you for mentioning Gregory Horror Show. I heard about it in a YT video like 5 years ago and never been able to remember the title. I really like quirky weird games that bring some childish idiotic nostalgia. Thanks to you I know the title now so I can add it to my collection. You. Are. A. Legend!!!
"Gregory Horror Show" is a survival horror game for babies." Weird, cause I recall seeing a walkthrough that makes it seem like it's a trickier game since it relies a lot of patience to get everyone's souls.
I remember when Super Dragonball Z came out, the reviews were mediocre in France as it was closer to old / classic fighting games and more complex than the Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi games. For many people it felt like going backward to only have 18 characters while even the first Budokai game had 23 characters. It didn't helped that the game was released only in English in Europe. Stretch Panic (or Freak Out in Europe) is a bit janky and on the short side but it's a fun and weird experience. Gregory Horror Show is really a fun game, it might not be scary but can be quite tense at times! Never played Samurai Legend Musashi but it's one of those games I would see in the bargain bins of every video game store I ever visited. The cover kinda reminded me of the manga Shaman King but never tempted me enough to buy it. Same thing for Urban Chaos Riot Response, I would often see it in bargain bins or pre-owned shelves.
I love videos like these that show really good ACTUAL hidden gems. The Red Star looks great and I'm totally playing that. Shadow of Rome is amazing, I saw the cover once and didn't think much about it, but I noticed the Capcom logo. I played it and performed a suplex to a giant enemy. So yeah, it's pretty good.
The PS2 was a really special console, a lot of the best creativity in gaming started there and continues to evolve today. Hell, you could even say that Soulslike as a genre is really an evolution of PS2 action game design that was refined to a particular edge. I loved this video, I'd love more of these kinds of things if you are interested in it. This hit the nostalgia spot real well
When it comes to games, i miss the direct approach PS2 games had. I wish a wave of PS2 type games would be released. Games that get right to the point, focus on doing what they do really well. Utilize Creative art designs. We should never stop taking inspiration from previous game gens. Timeless games don't need hyper realistic graphics. Some of the best games have creative art styles. Anytime i say this someone in the comments always says: "well we have indie games" but that's besides the point. I wish the gaming community as a whole would incorporate these types of games into the mains focus of gaming. Games that are inspired by previous generations designs. They shouldn't take as long to make, they won't cost so much to make. They should be easier to focus passion into a smaller focused project. Especially with today's technological advancements. Previous games should still inspire newer games no matter how far into the future we go. We shouldn't leave those unique aspects of game designs in the past. We should incorporate them as we go.
I had a PS2 in college, it was PEAK JRPG times for sure. I remember going to the store and buying Rogue Galaxy, $30, and firing it up in our dorm and absolutely falling in love with it. It's a damn shame the series didn't go anywhere. Trivia - the main character is voiced by Will Friedel, who played Eric Matthews on Boy Meets World.
I actually really enjoyed Road Trip Adventure as a kid. It was fun exploring what seemed like a fairly large world at the time. Plus I enjoyed making the car better especially when you found the boost power up. The little quest you would stumble upon were adorable, and the one were you actually had to make a town based on the cars you meet along the way was enjoyable.
Agreed on Skygunner, I rented that game around when it first came out and then swiftly bought a copy and it's been proudly in my collection ever since. Plus the opening theme song/animation is a complete banger, too.
If you(Austin or you the person reading this) ever decide to give Road Trip Adventure another shot, make sure you go inside the buildings too as some of the first missions you can do in the game give you opportunities to make money. But yeah, you do grind, my most recent playthrough though i did manage to avoid it through the economy of the rest of the game. Some upgrades can be free thru quests well, saving you from spending coins on better parts at certain times
Road Trip Adventure was definitely one of my favourite games growing up! Loved my kart racers and Gran Turismo but the adventure side of this game kept me coming back multiple times
You can't believe how happy I am to see someone talk about Shadow of Rome. I love the game and I play It every year religiously and I felt like a mad man talking about it with friends and absolutely no one knows this amazing game
Oh. I just realised I've been blurring Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank together in my head and couldn't tell you which was which. When Austin said that J&D were left in the PS2, I went "Wait didn't they get a new game or some kind of remake recently?" and then he showed/mentioned R&C and uh. Yeah I was thinking of those two.
I loved Rogue Galaxy. I remember getting clowned on in a forum back in the day for defending it. A few people were upset that it wasn't really a pirate game. They wanted ship battles and treasure hunts and not a JRPG with pirate aesthetics. Which is fine, but I pointed out that is what I wanted and i, ya know, bothered to do my research before plopping down money on it. I was told I was being "defensive"
I am so happy you brought up Rogue Galaxy! I loved that game so much that it is still one of my most favorite games of all time. I remember being up for hours doing the final boss and felt so proud to take it all down
I got SO excited when you brought up Gregory Horror Show; I knew it'd have to come up in a weird/obscure PS2 list. It's in my top five games; I absolutely adore it. Huge recommendation if you enjoy survival horror and/or puzzle games and want something a little quirky
Road Trip Adventures was an insaaaaane game... I dint think you gave it the attention it needed when playing it... has tonnes of mini games and is much more indepth... the fact how empty the world actually is combined with its soundtrack is incredibly nostalgic.
I remember going through SO MUCH to play Rogue Galaxy. The original release didn't work on older PS2s, like my first generation slim, and when it was played too much wouldn't load past the synopsis screen. So used copies were nigh unplayable. Eventually, i got a brand new sealed copy from a non-Gamestop store and got to play it then
Liked and subbed! Talked about some cool games I remembered! I’m a 91 baby but I have older brother so I got the good life on having every system passed down with huge cool libraries ready for me to explore 🎉 good life being a 90s kid
One game I thought you might have talked about when you brought up Arika was Everblue, the precursor to the Endless Ocean series (though I expect you made most of this video before the announcement of the newest game) what's weird is we never got the first Everblue in the states but we did get the sequel and they still called it Everblue 2 over here. Speaking of only released in Japan and Europe, look into Michigan: Report from Hell. It was made by Grasshopper and it's a first person camera game where you actually play a camera man. It did some neat stuff while also being delightfully janky. I think you'd dig it!
As a kid, my cousing and me were OBSESSED with Shadows of Rome. To the point that we both had our own copy of the game, and when we once went into a long summer vacation to another town, we bought an extra copy just to play during our vacation.
Always great to see a PS2 video. So many weird games that were actually given decent time and budget to be realized. Okage is awesome and anyone watching this video should go check it out.
In defense of Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier: 1. It was a psp game 2. Eco powers based on Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue was actually a cool idea(giving Kira actual use too with aspects we were teased with in the first game) 3. The ship portions weren't terrible 4. Daxter has pants
Urban Chaos Riot Response is such chaotic and hard game. I keep replaying missions so i can get all the medals. But the enemies either to annoying to kept alive or they too strong and too many to kill.
BRUH I think about Shadow of Rome like once a week at least, for absolutely no reason. I just remember spending a ton of time with it, and that it was very ahead of its time in some aspects. Thanks for (hopefully) bringing some closure by talking about it. It's like when you have a song stuck in your head. If you hear it, sometimes it goes away lol.
Dude, Rouge Galaxy is such a good game! It needs to be played by a lot more people. It's story kinda gets a little bug nuts at the end, but the game play and mechanics are honestly really good
Radiata Stories and Rogue Galaxy were the games that truly got me into RPGs as a wee lad. Rogue Galaxy also 100% started my love for space pirates that has endured to this day. God I miss the PS2 era, gaming was so much more experimental then.
Shadow of Rome's gladiator gameplay was a lot of fun especially with both dismembering and crowd hyping mechanics. Also, any game that let you beat human enemies with their own limp is always a plus for me.

Smugglers run gets super hard the more you play it. Like abnormally hard lol
My dad played that one all the time
Yeah it's really hard remember playing both of them back in the day, great multiplayer mode too
I 100%ed it on the GameCube I have no idea how
Rule of Rose was a PS2 horror game that was so controversial (in Europe, specifically) that it was banned in New Zealand, Australia, & the United Kingdom. It's got one helluva story although the combat is the jankiest. Never owned a PS2 but I'd love to emulate it because the secondhand prices are INSANE!
* thanks to KyleCrossGaming for correcting me, I thought it never made it to the States because Sony didn't wanna publish it
I paid for that and Kuon and are not worth the price.
Rule of Rose was released in the States. Sony just declined to publish it there, so Atlus did instead. Same situation as Demon's Souls on PS3.
Nitrorad goes into more detail.
I bought all the copies that were on eBay around 2012 and prices shot up on rule of rose as a result and never came back down.
it's also made by the same studio that made Chulip, a fact that the Chulip fandom has memed to no end
Your last name is Horror?
@@StudioInkblot Gregory lol
I wanna say thanks for the PSP one. I had fun playing Kenka Bancho. The Simple Series 2000 is a prime example of unknown (and awful) games for the PS2.
Neo Contra is such a fun game and it has the most badass reversible cover art that I dont thinkany people noticed.
Shadow of Rome is 1 of my Fav PS2 GAMES! I rented that thing multiple times from blockbuster, even though I managed to beat it completely each time I rented it, it didn't bother me, I loved the combat and hacking off limbs to use as weapons, and how it BASICALLY used the entire story from Gladiator with Russell Crowe down to the end fight with the white armored emperor lol
Such a fun RPGish beatum up
Correction: Namco X Capcom was published by Namco
Pin of Correction.
Really? But dark cloud 1 and 2 are like, so much better.
(And obviously so is KH 1&2 and ffx and xii)
@@Yixdywhats your favorite game then dum dum? surely it must be the best game of all time then if we going off your logic that is. “thats your favorite thing?? but this one is better!” yep favorite things are decided purely based on objective fact like a robot, not smaller nuances that resonate n move ppl lul
Virtual hugs coming your way ❤
“Animal companion” was that written by AI? Or just a woke way of saying pet dog,cat etc.
Sorry for your loss
@@grimnir6169 I thought the same thing... AI?
Great timing. I’ve had a big wave of PS2 nostalgia this week.
If ten years of complaining finally got you a Rocket Knight collection, please start complaining about Freedom Fighters, another forgotten PS2 gem!
That's missing the ps360 game from the collection 🤔
Shadow of Rome is incredible! I still resent Dead Rising to this day because I love this game so much :(
Urban Chaos was in Hitman: Blood Money as a demo and I replayed that first level so much LMAO I loved every second of it and then I bought the game.
Hey Austin, glad to have you back mate. Hope the move went well!
10:15 HOW DID YOU KNOW ABOUT MY SLEEPOVERS????????
Well logically if u had one sleepover u had them all cause everyone does a same thing over at a sleep over
I always love the topics you bring up, keep it up.
I still have my copy of Shadow of Rome. It's a great game. Shadow of Rome and Colosseum: Road to Freedom are both great gladiator games.
You. Are. A. Legend!!!
Me and my friends played Road Trip adventures so much, that and seek&destroy were random bargain bin games that turned out to be really good
26:41 bro is playing Chrono Trigger music from Super Nintendo for a PlayStation 2 game that's hilarious
smugglers run 2 is one of my fav ps2 games, played the free roam mode where it just had a deep house track on loop for hours, was great
"Gregory Horror Show" is a survival horror game for babies."
Weird, cause I recall seeing a walkthrough that makes it seem like it's a trickier game since it relies a lot of patience to get everyone's souls.
ROGUE GALAXY blew my mind as a kid! It had voice acting too!
bro is Gordon Freeman
ok CHICHI BEING PLAYABLE IS SICK AF
Liking Austin’s new beard cut 😁👌
Austin is slowly turning into Tommy Vercetti
Stretch Panic's bosses give me that Madoka Magica vibe. The music is also a bop!
Wallace and gromit Project zoo rare forgotten jank
The PS2 was a really special console, a lot of the best creativity in gaming started there and continues to evolve today. Hell, you could even say that Soulslike as a genre is really an evolution of PS2 action game design that was refined to a particular edge.
I loved this video, I'd love more of these kinds of things if you are interested in it. This hit the nostalgia spot real well
That beard was a choice
When I first hear about Stretch Panic: *I Sleep*
When I hear it's developed by Treasure: *Real Shit*
29:50 What about Hard Corps: Uprising from 2011? It was a banger game and not a spin-off.
I never hear anyone talking about Drakengard 1 and 2.🤔
But I loved Final Fantasy X2. 😌👍💯
Road Trip Adventure was definitely one of my favourite games growing up! Loved my kart racers and Gran Turismo but the adventure side of this game kept me coming back multiple times
Epic list. I love when you put these together because there's always a bunch of hidden gems I've never heard of.
stretch panic had the milkers
You can't believe how happy I am to see someone talk about Shadow of Rome. I love the game and I play It every year religiously and I felt like a mad man talking about it with friends and absolutely no one knows this amazing game
i really did forget about most of these so, well done
Radiata Stories AND Samurai Legends Musashi?
MY CHILDHOOD NOSTALGIA SCREAMS IN PLEASURE
Man, The Red Star is an absolute GEM! Had so much fun playing it co-op with a friend
Deep dive on stretch panic when?
17:49
Urban Chaos was an absolute blast as a kid back in the 2000's, surprised to see it mentioned after all these years.
Rogue Galaxy is an absolutely amazing game. Some of the party members back story's actually had me tearing up.
Glad there's someone else who thinks Contra can work as an overhead camera action game, Neo Contra is amazing and I love it!
As a kid, my cousing and me were OBSESSED with Shadows of Rome. To the point that we both had our own copy of the game, and when we once went into a long summer vacation to another town, we bought an extra copy just to play during our vacation.
Oh hey, it’s evil Austin.
Always great to see a PS2 video. So many weird games that were actually given decent time and budget to be realized.
Okage is awesome and anyone watching this video should go check it out.
In defense of Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier:
1. It was a psp game
2. Eco powers based on Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue was actually a cool idea(giving Kira actual use too with aspects we were teased with in the first game)
3. The ship portions weren't terrible
4. Daxter has pants
I think Contra would work well as a Roguelite. Different weapons, items, maybe add elemental effects to weapons. so much could be done
Urban Chaos Riot Response is such chaotic and hard game. I keep replaying missions so i can get all the medals. But the enemies either to annoying to kept alive or they too strong and too many to kill.
Loved this video and even the sponsor. But I love the Larry the cable guy Austin era even more
So glad to hear someone else mention Rogue Galaxy. So many hours side questing
The king of flying under the radar is Scaler. Slick controls, interesting mechanics. A really fun “mascot” platformer.
I've seen enough tournament footage of SuperDBZ to know that the game does have a decent amount of depth
Yupp
Thunder tanks and war jets had big replays on my PS2! My neighborhood friends loved those two
