I'm an old fart at 60 years old. These touring bikes with DCT are perfect for me doing lazy touring. No hassle biking is what I'm looking for.
60! A mere baby… Ride safe
Like trucks...some 'tools' still want to make the job hard...put it in drive and point, life does need to be hard!
I own the Honda NC750x DCT and love it. But if Honda decides to sell the NT1100 in the USA I will certainly buy it. 65 years old and easy riding for me. Lol
@@markholroyd5365your always a kid to someone. I am 65 and still get called a kid from older folks. LOL
I'd be interested to see any documentation that shows the Honda DCT learns your riding style. It has adaptive adjustments of the clutch bite points to ensure a long life, but the way you control what a DCT does is all through the throttle and HOW you use it. It recognises the speed of throttle change, fixed positions, gentle roll offs and roll ons, but this is all in real time. YOU tell it how and when to change gear by the use of your right hand. It takes a while to adapt and it does not reward people who ride using the the throttle like a switch.
It, being like an Africa Twin, does reward the rider that rides and throttles smoothly.
I really like the look of the this bike. I just wished Honda would have given better colour choices, someting a bit brighter and engaging like the new NC750X colours.
Nice review …… I have the DCT version of this bike. Just back from a training tour in Normandy. It performed very well and is super comfortable. Excellent value for the money in my opinion.
Im trading in my Forza 750DCT all kitted out with Panniers and top box. I took it all the way from London Calais to Gibraltar via Pamplona, Madrid Ronda Reinosa, Santander, Portsmouth, London. 12 days touring 2200mls. I'm taking the delivery of this one in White DCT. With the Voyager Pack you get Top Box with inner bag Comfort Seat Larger Footpegs Tank Bag plus Auxiliary Driving Light operated by the FN button All for £1500 Honda still offering with a discount if you buy the 2023 model. I take delivery on the 2nd June 2024. New colour for 2024 is Red..
550 quid for the topcase? you could almost buy two Givi cases for that price and the Givi look much nicer.
It's fine to turn the key, start the bike and drive .. you can press ok later, and you have a speedometer on the small display that works the moment you turn the key .. This speedometer is for you to always see your speed .. especially when using the large screen for navigation ..
Cool. Thanks for the info
I absolutely loved my DCT equipped bike until it started sticking in gear. It scared me how long it took Honda to fix it. Sold it and won’t be getting another. Shame as that auto box is great. 🔧😎👍🏻
I thought Hepco and Becker did the Honda panniers. The accent panels on the panniers and top box seem to be optional. But,,, this motorcycle is outstanding and DCT is a superb revelation. I've got an XADV and I think all my motorcycles going forward will be DCT. The NT1100 is likely in my future! 😁
The XADV is an awesome machine
@@markholroyd5365 Yes, the XADV is really amazingly good. I only wish Honda had put cruise control on the XADV. One of the huge benefits of DCT is the comfort "old" hands get without having to clutch in traffic. Riding for 3+ hours and not having cruise control tends to tire my right hand a bit. But that is my only complaint on the XADV. I've ordered an NT1100 and to be honest I'm not sure which will be my primary ride! One thing for certain is my lovely BMW F900XR is likely to be destined for a new home.
Great and exhaustive review! And I love to see you guys driving in an active yet safe manner (anticipation, lines,...).
This bike can attract people that chose big trails because there was no real alternative since a few years if you didn't like the sporty position of a Ninja SX.
I believe the 3rd bike you were speaking about is the Honda CMX 1100 Rebel (custom like).
Why are these not in the U.S? I wanted one but had to settle for a NC750X. It's a great bike, but not as great as the NT!
Looks a reasonable spec bike but that screen design is awful for a touring bike. Surely it wouldn't have been hard to include a manual adjuster so you can change the screen from the seat....if I am touring and jumping between motorway and back rounds it's silly that you have to stop to adjust it....loads of manufacturers have different designs to allow this.
Looks very nice, pity it’s not shaft driven though. Mind you with a £7k price difference between this and my GSA I think I maybe able to get over having to do chain and sprocket maintenance. Then there’s Honda reliability…….! Think I’ll have to arrange a test ride asap! Thanks for the review guys. 👍
My thoughts exactly! Ride safe
I'm with you. But unfortunately where I live the estimated delivery time for an NT1100 is 6 months +. Honda is experiencing serious supply chain issues with several models. 😕
Very impressed with all the reviews with this bike, & DCT sounds great. Will test ride this bike when my CB in for service 👍
I think the third bike that the engine is shared with is the Rebel 1100. Currently riding an 850 GSA but am sorely tempted by the NT. Thanks for the review!
I think you are right, ride safe
Seems like a lovely bike...shame about the lack of shaft drive and the small tank for a tourer. I could probably put up with a chain if it had a fully enclosed chain guard. Increases the life several fold and keeps all the sh1t off the bike and easier to clean! I once quizzed a Honda management bod about the size of the tank on the VRF1200. His reply was how many miles could I do without needing to pee! My reply was the same as if I am in my car!! The silence was golden. Thanks Dave
I think the size of the tank is not the objective. It's a result of general fuel consumption and tank size that gets you distance. The efficiency of engines these days is pretty good. The targets seem to be 200-250 miles. Depending on your speeds that's over 3-3.5 hours in the saddle. Seems OK for me. I've had bikes with 6.5 gallon tanks and others with 3.5 gallon tanks and they go the same distance. A really large tank is really no fun at fill up. Too heavy normally up high. My BMW F900XR has a smallish 4 gallon tank but yet I still get the 3-3.5 hours endurance. The stock seat is literally a pain in the ass so the 3+ hours is spot on.
@@sunrisejak2709 Each to their own Doug I guess as we are all different. I personally can do more than 3.5hrs but don't want to necessarily have to fill up just because I want a break, especially if the weather is bad. When I am ready for a break, I am usually no where near a petrol station. I would love a fuel range of 300miles before starting to worry about finding a petrol station but I take your point about the full tank weight. I have a 1250RT with 25 litres. If you keep around 60mph, it is returning around 55mpg. Increase to 70mph and your at 50mpg. 75 to 80mph and you are in the mid to high 40's. Living in Norfolk with no motorways means I typically average about 240miles leaving around 20 to run dry. All this with BMW's shift cam technology and 12000miles of running. Stay safe. Dave B
@@davidblundell3629 HI Dave, I'm with you. Perhaps the primary difference is that last month I turned 69 and my butt just isn't as "vibrant" as it used to be! Almost as bad as that old guy patient in the movie Hangover! 🤣 Hence my abbreviated seat time. 😊 Plus I live on Thailand and the heat can be a bit brutal at times so you're right each of us have our own expectations and limitations. But I admit a largish tank does provide greater flexibility and convenience. I had an older GS decades ago with a monstrous gas tank like 30 liters that dropped over the frame like a melted marshmallow. Oddly that's the only bike where I ran out of gas,,, pushing to see how far I could go on a full tank. 🙄 I just completed two nice rides. Northern Thailand mountains which is a "bucket list" ride with epic motorcycle roads and then south to the islands which was equally amazing. I did manage nearly 4 hour stretches in an economy type run. Wasn't too bad. The mountain ride though had some pretty poor mileage as it was a much faster pace. Great place to ride as you will never see flashing lights in your rear view mirror. Nearly zero enforcement. I'm waiting for the Moto Guzzi V100 to be released. That should have good range as most Guzzi's do and,,, fun. Sorry for rambling! Too much time on my hands. 😉 Cheers,
@@sunrisejak2709 Sounds like you could be in motorcycling heaven there Doug. Nearest I have got is Wales and Scotland though I absolutely love Cornwall with Porthcurno being my favourite place in the world. Scotland really does take some beeting if the weather is good but sounds like you have that at least where you are. I am 67 so using you as a yard stick, hopefully I have another two years at least before I seize up!....27inch inside leg (not the middle one) means a GS was always out of the question. I also wanted the weather protection offered by the RT...although not the huge dent it made in my pension pot! Kids can fight over it!! Stay safe and upright. Cheers Dave
@@davidblundell3629 HI Dave, uncanny similarities between us! I'm an American now living in Thailand the last 30 years. I really miss riding much of the USA. Unfortunately I've not had the opportunity to ride the UK. But it looks spectacular as well. I'll keep riding until it looks impossible if one day I need to strap a walker and step stool to my bike! I also had an RT11 and RT12. Good luck to you too and enjoy your 2 wheel adventures.
The information that DCT learns how you ride, where does that come from? It says nothing like that in the manual. In my experience it just reacts through PGMFI to the way the throttle is used . In the normal drive mode, you can give a little throttle and it will shift op swiftly. When you give it full throttle, it will rev higher before shifting up. Therefore, I wonder why there even are sport modes. Shifting later with less throttle, that's all. Different mappings depending on the way the throttle is applied. You can call that learning, but it is in fact programmed.
I currently own the Yamaha Tracer 9GT and was very curious of this bike when it came out. I went to test ride it and was positively surprised. I've ridden the DCT version and it was great. The bike hasn't done anything wrong, actually opposite. The looks is subjective but in my opinion it looks good, maybe not the prettiest bike out there but it's not ugly. The switchgear was a bit confusing but that's something to get used to. Great bike but unfortunately it wasn't as exciting as my Tracer 9GT :)
Thanks for the review guys, appreciate the opinions and observations, almost like you was reading my mind with what I wanted to know about the bike 😂
I enjoyed the enthusiasm expressed during this review. The NT1100 looks like a great touring option for the money and is perhaps a motorcycle for the more mature rider - by that, I mean that the bike looks to have a certain dignity with its understated colour schemes and purposeful road presence............Cheers.
"understated color schemes". Got that right! 🙂 Another description is "boring". But I still appreciate what Honda has done with the NT1100. 😁👍
Great review! I wish Honda would bring the NT1100 to the US.
I think Honda are going to devastate BMW sales with this once they get enough supplied to dealers. The price difference between this and an RT or a GS is huge.
I agree! It’s an awesome bike… now when I change mine Africa Twin or NT 1100? Ride safe
Interesting. I was going to buy a BMW RT this year. But I’m told this NT is coming to North America this winter. I will will wait until we get final word.
Being chain driven is a deal breaker for me. A shame, because otherwise it would be on the short list.
Great video. NT1100 provides stiff competition for the Versys, VStrom, KTMs and the GS. Still unsure about DCT, but worth a decent test. I can see myself hitting the downshift when going for the indicator! Oh, a red one would nice.
Good point. It’s tough to find the indicator button.
IMHO the NT fits better with the RT instead of GS.
That too...
Great video'Thank You! They should make the boxes open from the 'top' and the 'side' so you have a choice!? Super upgrade to Any hardside paneer carrier!,🙂🇺🇲🇬🇧👍
You had a couple of good opportunities to accelerate hard. Wish you could have shown us that.
We are very safe in our reviews… we leave the hard acceleration to you guys… Ride Safe
I would have !iked this in a diffrent colour option like the xadv. I would also like this with the option of not having all the car play etc stuff and no panniers .Is it really that much better than an xadv in a fun way ?or is it worth 5 grand more than a nc750 x .I'm going to have t o go dct,in the near future to extend my riding years so I'm watching these with interest .Nice review as normal lads .
thanks for the kind words buddy. depends what you want out of a bike, both are great to be honest.. this one was so smooth
I'm also appreciating DCT for the same reasons. At nearly 70 yrs old I'm still a competent rider and motorcycle travel is a huge part of my life. But getting stuck in city traffic will be an uncomfortable period with my left hand. I have an XADV. It very very nice. I also have on order an NT1100! (not sure why and my wife is even more perplexed) 😅 But my heart is in sport/tourers. My sport/tourer at this moment is a BMW F900XR. A great machine but I'm now a DCT "disciple" so once the NT1100 arrives the BMW will be finding a new home. Then it will be fun to see which model will eventually be the "keeper". The XADV or the NT1100? Spoiled for choice! 😁
@@sunrisejak2709 Hello, sir. So which one was the "keeper", X-ADV or NT1100?
@@qlasiq163 I sold the XADV in preparation of buying the upgraded XADV. I placed my order just following Covid and waited. Many months so I also ordered the NT1100. The NT1100 delivered first so I canceled the XADV order. I guess I would still prefer the NT1100 but the XADV followed VERY close behind. 😁
Tried one, liked it but not enough, doesn’t stir the soul like my new Multistrada V2S Travel and I’ve just moved down from a 1250GSA😜
great content and lol presentation id would have loved to see the front with dipped headlights on running lights look great i think extras you can have LED front spots on as i like to be seen, awsome thanks for sharing Jim from Birmingham
Nice video guys, you obviously liked the bike. What bike were you riding Mark?
Can’t tell you Brian it’s CB1000R coming soon. Bugger did I just tell you?
till now you R the best review
Love your reviews , get a little worried mind when at 60mph with gravel and debris, you talk with your hands ✋ 😀 you don't need to ride one handed 😉
thanks for the kind words buddy, ride safe :)
Several years back our local paper interviewed 3 local riders who had all lost a arm. This did not stop them & they raced motorcycles on track, and all had road bikes. They called themselves the one arm bandits.
Besides all the positives, which are great (it a reliable Honda, nice styling, *_great engine,_* very good mirrors, cruise control, heated grips, comfort bike, good suspension, TFT, etc.).
_Negatives_
1st Neg.: For this type of bike (touring and town riding) I really, really wish it was *_shaft_* driven. Has a chain = a shame.
2nd Semi-Neg.: The DCT may be good on the NT1100 _but_ I would not get DCT due to the negatives
(more oil filters, more oil, more complicated, more maintenance, heavier bike).
On the Gold Wing I can see DCT but not anything else.
On this Honda the *quick shifter* option is much better over a DCT transmission.
My unbiased thoughts.
I have the Crosstourer DCT, and the maintenance is almost none, I can only say good things about DCT...
@@robbutler2601 DCT extras -
- 2 filters to buy and change/more cost
- more oil needed/cost more
- heavier bike/less gas mileage/more costs
Just saying.
@@sweetcostarica are you serious forking out £13k and you are worried about the cost of oil and mpg. I just have to laugh!
@@MrBottomrung I would laugh too if the price of oil was what I was talking about.
Please read my entire comments carefully and you may get it.
God bless
@@sweetcostarica I’m still laughing!
I tried one and wasn’t taken. I bought a fully loaded ATAS DCT with 2,000 miles for £14k. The most loaded NT is £15k but no ES or IMU.
I'm hoping this comes to the U.S market.
Great video gents. I enjoyed watching it. I ride nc750x dct . Love it. 2020 model. I think this bike would be to tall for me. I like to see Honda do I shaft dct model. For nc750x and the bike you test rode. I do the police and ambulance service and maybe blood bike may stay away for it as it is chain driven. Look forward to your next video gents . As always ride safe.
I’m 5’8”, 30” inside leg and a very easy flat foot plus the centre of gravity is low and very light to get it off the side stand. I’m on an Africa Twin which is taller and notably more effort to lift. Just a little bland for me.
I also have a 2020 750xDCT and have this bike on order, should get it this month. The test ride I did proved that the seat is no higher and my feet touch the ground just the same as my 750 and I am only 5’6”
@@philboulter I’m also trading up from the NC750X to the NT1100 DCT and sounds like we’re waiting for the same delivery of bikes to come in. Have you been given an approximate date for your order?
@@philb15uk should be this month. I ordered it in early December. When did you order yours?
@@philboulter I ordered early February and had confirmation that it will be in the next delivery of DCT’s to the UK. The challenge is actually getting the DCT’s to come in. Last shipment of orders were all manuals. Keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼
It looks nice, however got myself a new VFR800 a few years ago and had problems which the South Wales dealership couldn't resolve so lost all faith in Honda
It’s £13400 in Exeter.
Dude don't be so surprised at the price of it...bikes are never worth what you think they are. Go find out the prices of the materials and labor to put them together and you'll be even more surprised at how ridiculous the price of bikes are set at. You're too use to looking at and accepting the market price as most are...
Great detailed review!
thanks for the kind words, ride safe :)
DCT is 10 Kg plus
I was lucky enough to try one last week (thanks to Smiths Honda in Chester), I was impressed with the ride quality, personally I found it a little buzzy in the handle bars. Where it came up trumps for me was that losing the foot gear lever means that it is easier to use when the dreaded arthritis kicks in. Ride safe chaps.
See you back in Cornwall soon matey.
@@markholroyd5365 off to Spain with Magellan in four weeks. Looking forward to a bimble around Cornwall buddy.
@@justmejohn773 Brilliant you will love the tour and we would be happy to ride out with you again on our amazing roads…. Watch this space.
Does it come with heated grips, or are they an option?

Don't like the screen flickering
Excellent review gents,
elle est géniale cette moto ,je l'ai depuis une semaine !
Es un moto excelente. Segura viaje.
Does it have lean sensitive ABS or hill hold control ?
Not on the bike we rode. Ride safe
Nice bike, great review. For me, I despise top boxes for several reasons. Pillion struggles to mount/ dismount, weight aft is unsettling, and they look like coffins! I would love to see thehike without the luggage on, as this is how I would often ride. A comment on side opening panniers- surely when you're touring, you unhook the panniers and take them with you into your digs? I don't have a problem packing it when its lying down, opened up. Thanks !
Nice work. Thanks
This bike is only for the European market and not to be available in the USA.
This or a tracer 900 gt?
difficult choice!

I think your next bike will be this model, great review guys 👍🏽
mmmm, not sure.. its amazing, but getting back on the GSA was like 'aaaaaaaaah'... ;)
I think he likes it !!
Shouldn’t you have your phone in your pocket because if you come off quite often your not near the bike and can get to it so for me it’s in my pocket and if I come off and able to use the phone I can get to it even if I’m immobilised. But that said I ride a gs so it has sos. But not everyone can do that so I woo encourage please to put there phone it there pockets. Thanks for the vid boys.
good point buddy, totally agree :)
My experience is that mobile phones simply don't belong strapped to handlebars in the elements. They often have issues and are not robust enough. Mobile stays in my tank bag and connects by Bluetooth to various gadgets (TFT, GPS, headsets etc. And with the advent of Apple Car play and Android Auto no need to have the mobile do double duty. 😁
Sorry guys, I have a three-strike rule and i found it too tall (for me 5.6 & 30" Inside leg)...Too complicated switchgear & the screen adjustment. Oh, and its chain on an 1100? I'll stick with my GS1250.
and a nice GS you have too Mike.. this one is awesome though
To be fair, £13k is why there is no shaft drive.
@@philboulter the base R1250 GS can be bought for 14K compare to the OTR of 13.4k for the DCT Honda. I think the Honda is overpriced somewhat but does include some luggage.
@@nikoscosmos Good shout - and the BMW is a far superior machjine. I would love one. To be fair - to add the Cruise control and panniers means the price of the BMW is more like £16,500 according to the motoradd site. I would love to have one.
@@nikoscosmos No one really buys the stock GS you won’t get much change out of 20k once you add the boxes.
Too expensive... Rebel 1100T bagger DCT is £11.300 in 2023...should be the cost of this, the 'TV' should be an optional extra, personally I don't want Apple crap...made the mistake of buying an iMac once, a computer which doesn't even recognize Wikipedia!
Shad do a little tank cap bag that pops off it's pins for refuelling, all you need for a phone,etc...cheap add on!
Think these will sell like Costa coffee...😆
This could be my next bike for touring. But I will still need another bike for my hooligan days.
Nice review but IMHO this bike seems bland and a bit boring, doesn't do anything for me.
I'm in the US, are you using KPH or MPH?
MPH
Proper speed…. Ride safe
Stones and bushels. Also Imperial gallons just to piss you off.
I've seen mentioned in a few reviews that the engine is noticeably vibey. That's a deal-breaker for me if it's true.
didn't feel any vibes at all. it was really smooth when we rode it
This or a nt 1100 please
Why is it that so many motorcycle video makers thinks it's a good idea to commentate while riding the motorcycle? It is a much better format if you simply review the motorcycle whilst standing beside it. The sound quality is better and we get to view the motorcycle instead of looking at your view as you ride, which is a complete waste.
Thanks for the comments
Nah! I'll take the "Zero" teacher!
NT1100 doesn't have IMU, cornering ABS, so can't learn how to change gears in coners.
Don't like the handle bar. It's so old-school style for a modern bike nowadays. Don't you all think so ?
Cant compare with my GSA comfort for sure! Hade a vfr 1200 x and it was way behind in all aspects!
Except engine and dct... And the lack of electronic glitches.
@@octavianorodrigues honda very topheavy also compared to the well balanced GS ! A major + factor for BMW!
@@magnusjsvensson It depends on what GS are you talking about. The 1250 GS is heavier than the NT and the GSA is heavier than the GS. More over the NT shouldn't be compaired with the 1250. It's more likely in the same class with the RT and it much lighter than the BMW. I'm not a Honda fan at all but to compair a Honda with a BMW in terms of weight is not the right thing to do...

Why fit a GPS? You already have a TFT displaying maps via Apple Car Play. Do your homework!
You are correct although there is nowhere to mount your phone and the CarPlay is very temperamental and as we said in the video a sat nav is our preferred option, so we had done our homework 😁
DCT Não
DCT Yes! 🤣
This is not a review but a promotional film. from point 14:10 you sound like you have found a pot of gold under the rainbow. Really any critical approach is omitted. It looks like you guys are his Honda promotion salesmen in disguise. There are at least a dozen critical points to note about this motorcycle and that is normal. But that you become completely lyrical about absolutely everything is very strange. I ordered this motorcycle myself, (partly because of the DCT application, because I have lost the clutch power in a few left hand fingers) but in the realistic realization of the dozen small and less small negatives which you have strangely avoided.
I'm 72 in age and would not want to be seen within 100 ft. of this perversion of a motorcycle. This dashboard is a dangerous distraction from the serious business of riding a ''bike''. Minimalism is what people are looking for today in a motorcycle, hence the retro craze. We miss the double-clocks and petcock reserves, and not having to look at a digital number instead of a tach./speedo needle seen with peripheral vision.
Agreed buddy and there is a bike out there for everyone indeed. :)
Aren't you overreacting a little? I hate displays too but for a good bike I could ignore the I-phone instruments.
