I own a BMW R1250 GSA have done 20 thousand in the last 2 years and love it one of the best bikes I’ve had. I was looking to upgrade to the new 1300 GSA but when it was unveiled I was shocked and very disappointed that was it for me .(BMW WHAT HAVE YOU DONE ) So the bikes are in showrooms now so I thought I would go and look and test one .The Bike looks totally different in the flesh I was very surprised. I went to three dealers and had the bikes for 3 hours plus ,so I’ve had a few hours on it. It’s that good I’ve bought one 😊.My only advise is go and look at one if it’s not for you there are lots of other makes out there.
@@ydarbg The low and the std after 1:5 hours I started to feel it ! I did three hours on the comfort and found it ok more hard than mine but I would imagine that it would break in with time 😉
Thanks.. lotta money to spend on a bike that's uncomfortable. Can't understand why they didn't match the seat comfort of the 1200/1250. More sporty I suppose. I'd go with the standard comfort seat 👍
Great no nonsense video, people should reserve judgement until they see it in the flesh ! Mine arrived at the end of this month (nov) traded in my 1300 gs 👍🏼
I seem to be one of the few that loved the look of the new GSA from when the first pictures came out, I also remember the complaints from owners about how they didn’t like the look of the new one, until they’d gotten used to it , and then bought one GS owners don’t like change, given another year or two and they’ll love it Great review guys
Great vid as always 👍 I live on a single track green lane. Tested the ASA GS on this road, tried it on tight hairpins, took it round a road race circuit, hill starts and through town. Ordered a GSA with ASA. I tour Europe every summer with my wife and ASA is 3 gearboxes in one, Road + D is like a cruise mode, Dynamic + D is as close to how I ride as it gets, Manual mode is just so smooth, way better than the normal shift assist. The new GSA looks are totally different in the flesh. As you say, you need to take it out and ride it 👍
It looks, and is, a complete departure from the previous model. It’s the same as the big change that came from the old 1150 to the 1200. When you see it in the flesh,it’s not as radical as you assume. As long as BMW can sort the problems efficiently that some owners have had,it’ll be a success. The new GSA still gives the main attributes of the old one, and as a touring machine should work well. What will be off putting, is the cost, especially with options, which is now getting a bit hard to justify. Thanks for the content.
The jury is still out for me as far as looks go but like you say it's all down to personal choice. It's basically the same for anything you buy, if you are not 100% sure about it and it costs a lot of dosh, you are not going to buy it. Be interesting to see how sales go with all the hype about bike companies struggling and the trend now for smaller bikes but for now at least I'll be sticking with my 1200GS.
I have no doubt its a huge improvement over the r1250gsa i own but honestly I feel it reminds me of the old k1000 in the 80s square and its not for me but I understand others will love the looks thanks for sharing the reviews you both are always entertaining 😊
The comment at 12.15 "Just go and grab one" made me curious as to how cheap these bikes are. So onto the configurator. R1300GSA £18,870. Triple Black £785, Enduro Pk pro £630, Adaptive Vehicle Height £515, Anti Theft alarm £255, Riding assistant £795, Top carrier £280, Top case £574. Total Cash Price £22,450. That is without a Sat Nav. Many might consider a PCP deal. I couldn't find the finance arrangement page, not sure if there is one or you might have to visit the dealership, but it's usually a large deposit, monthly instalments over 4 yrs(?) with interest, limited mileage, and a final balloon payment if you want to keep the bike or hand it back at the end. Also there is the possibility of a service package for warranty purposes. PCP plans are always more expensive that cash price so you are knocking at the door of £30,000. And the bike is still ugly.
PCP is available and any agreement I have had has been in excess of 15,000 miles a year. They usually ask for them back much earlier as they are worried about resale. They asked for one back after 5 months… it only had 9000 miles on it!
Just a question about the 'Bunny Ear Crash Bar' bits. I know they're no wider than the handle bars but I've heard reports of issues when filtering and accidents / scrapes to cars?
Great review. I test rode it, as I was in aan accident last year, my current 1250 is just over a year old, but test riding it was an expensive mistake. I simply can't resist the urge to go and negociate..
As it happens I went to my local Motorrad yesterday for a look see. I'll put it this way ,the GSA 1300 tank is so wide it made me re-think the beauty of the 1300 gs ! The 1300 gsa is still a Tonka Toy that looks like it missed legs day at the gym.
I’ve done 11,000 miles on my R1300GS (i) the whine is bloody annoying when riding slowly (ii) performance is in a different league to the 1250 (iii) The wind management (electric screen etc ) is utterly superb ! After riding from Bilbao to Faro 1260km on one day, I felt really fine! (iv) High comfort seat and self lowering suspension is great (v) Some BMW dealers are a pain to deal with ! (Hello Park Lane and Balmer Lawn) (vi) The radar cruise and lights in the mirrors are life savers!
I test one and it was a single track road, wet, lots of leaves and mud everywhere. The bike changed gear in places that I simply wouldn’t have. So my experience of the auto side wasn’t great. The manual change was brilliant though very smooth and if you ‘forget’ to change down as you stop it’ll change for you. However having tried the clutch version I will now be getting that as the new quick shifter is much better than what is on the 1250. I can’t see the point of ASA for me if I only use half of it and the QS on the clutched version is that good. Just my opinion but would say try both before you decide.
Thanks for the video lads 👍 I'm just curious about seat comfort. The GSA and GS appears to have a very hard seat (low and standard comfort seat). The seat on the GSA was digging into the inside of my legs when flat footings it the standard comfort seat on the GS is like a park bench... Haven't ridden one yet for any length of time so curious to hear your thoughts given the huge mileage that ye would be doing..long days etc
What’s your inseam? Just curious if you found the ride height feature useful when coming to a stop. I have a 1250 GSA with a factory low suspension, but with a 29” inseam I still find stopping a bit challenging with the suspension set for Auto.
Has a Place in Motorcycling for those that do Long Miles and Lengthy Tours and have Very Deep Pockets, Nice Looking Bike and Sounds Nice but not for me, would have something Similar but with a Much Smaller Engine. Not sure whether you said it had a Quick Shifter or not which would be a Convenient but not a Deal Breaker.
Part of the ownership experience is 'because of what it looks like'...'looking at it in your garage'..'looking back at it in the car park'...none of which this has. It's just ridiculously expensive and overloaded with tech they're telling you you need..just can't get over the price of these bikes today.
Taking one out for the day this week...looking forward to adding another bike to the list of bikes i can't afford!😂 Don't really do enough miles/long trips to justify the GSA, but i do like it having had the chance to take a good look at it. And for the styling critics....how is this bike worse than the KTM 1290?? Now that is a minger....(sorry Chris😊)
As a previous owner of a GS 1250, I was disappointed in the 1300 but the GSA looks better in the flesh, as I found when I took my test ride, but again unfortunately, it's not for me. You know that feeling you get when you're on a bike for the first time if it's for you or not. So, I'll stick to my RS1250 (Maggie) and wait for the 1300RS to come out and see what they have done to that... Maybe they will have put on backlit switch gear by then? I'll be interested to hear your review of the ASA version. FYI - I've already seen previously owned 1300GSs on dealership forecourts (fully spect out)going for £18k.
You should definitely get one after all that drooling. You don't have to be so hostile to those who don't like the looks, therefore go for a Ducati or Triumph.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I think someone once said… I love it in the flesh. Ride safe there is a bike for everyone… We are definitely not sponsored by anyone much to their annoyance…

I'm curious to see how you will react on a 1300 GSA ASA bike!
Great review!
At launch I didn't like it but now I think I love it. Enjoyed the review and it left me feeling very positive about the GSA.
Good review guys, but have to say the engine still sounds like a bag of spanner’s 😂
🤣

Different engine sound due to thinner engine cases. Reduced engine weight by 8 pounds.

Probably will be people that scrape when filtering but perhaps leaving a little more room they would be ok. Can’t see an issue myself to be honest

I'm thinking of the 1300gs but the standard comfort seat seems very hard and I'm not sure about the high seat
Life savers! I’ve been riding for 34 years! Never died without flashing mirrors! Nice, yes. Not life savers, if you do life savers!
Why on earth did you drive down to Faro in one go?
What about automatic changing gears (ASA) while you’re in the middle of a corner?
I test rode the ASA and it’s amazing, nothing to worry about. Much better than the Honda version…
@ thanks

We had no issues and the seat shape has been changed to allow for the shorter legged amongst us. Ride safe
Love your new bike 🍀

With the ride height option at 32” both feet are flat on the floor. BMW don’t do a lowered seat but I’m sure Wunderlich (BMW) will do one.

Yeah it has a quick shifter which was smooth as butter
The only thing that’s spectacular about a gsa is the price there’s a big difference between riding a free bike and dropping 25 grand on one.😂👍
Part of the ownership experience is 'because of what it looks like'...'looking at it in your garage'..'looking back at it in the car park'...none of which this has. Is this a standard windscreen?
Yes
Are you sure? I’ve been checking in the meantime and looks to me that is a high windscreen by the shape it has.
it’s the same as my R1300GS. I love the electric adjustment😊
I love it👍
If you buy one…with or without asa?
Without my personal opinion is the asa is not there yet. With all luggage and my wife on the bike I need a clutch lever.
Video on it’s way… what a game changer
Any video coming out about the ASA??
Stay tuned. It’s on the way ;)

First 🤣flying brick too exspensive 🤣😜 frying pan non stick finish and Aliexspress end can 🤦♂️
Looks like a large Lego piece.
You are an idiot if you think they can deliver a bike of that ability for less than £18,700
They can’t…
*Its incredible value*
Are you sponsored by BMW! ITS UGLY
No we are not sponsored

It's funny you ask that question. There's a few vloggers who's gushing review of the 1300 gsa got me smh.
GSU , GS ugly !!!!.
