Britney is the most non problematic artist I've seen in the industry. She is so sweet and caring yet people treated her like dirt. You never hear her say anything negative about anyone. Just like all of us, she deserves her respect, privacy, and FREEDOM. It hurts seeing another woman constantly controlled by her "management" and can't even do things she wants to. Especially for someone her age, it's just odd to see. I won't get too deep into stories surrounding the #FreeBritney movement and other stories, but as a big fan of hers it's just unsettling to see. Overall, Britney is an icon and she'll always be in my top 5 favourite artists of all time.

Blackout is a dark, hypnotic and almost vengeful record that has her tell the doubters and the media who offered her no sympathy that she is not an artist to be written off so easily.
Circus is something different. Britney is on a transition into the light with this record being more optimistic, playful and rose like a phoenix from the ashes. What put Britney back in the good graces for good, to me personally was the For The Record documentary- due to it being unscripted and raw, from Britney's own narrative.

Britney was forced to create this album and go on tour to prove shes a good girl so her conservatirship will end as it was temprary. After she proved shes good, her father extended it for life and took away her children forever. Britney lost it which is why she was heavily drugged after this era specially during Femme Fetal. This is not a light time in Britney's career at all, but it was one of the biggest comebacks in music and people loved it.

Thankyouuuu! Finally someone sees it how I do. Tbh 2007 never ended for britney she is STILL dealing with the aftermath of that year. A real comeback would have been on her terms when she was ready, and having more creative control cause let's face it that's one of the many reasons she self sabotaged because she was never able to express herself in her own way. She destroyed the image that was forced upon her which I think was fucking badass of her. People need to stop saying her dad and the C-ship saved her. All it did was force her to become "britney spears" once again, make money for her dad and team and keep her locked in unseen chains. The industry, her team, her family, the media and even her lovers done her dirty. 12 years of her life and freedom have passed😔 but it won't last forever the truth has come to light and britney will get the justice that she seriously deserves #freebritney💜

I will not lie, there is so much evidence proving the conservatorship was never even needed. All she needed was a BREAK! The poor woman has been working her entire life: From the ages of 16-38, she has not had a break. Even if you count the break between In the Zone (2003) and Blackout (2007), she was still recording, promoting fragrances, interviews, etc. Her team kept drug testing her and the rehab centers even said multiples times that her drug tests kept coming out negative; so why keep putting someone through all these drug tests if they keep coming negative? Even her friends said she is good mom and not as bad as the media was making her out to be, but yet the whole world believed what TMZ says and all the other media outlets. She’s not crazy, she never was. Her shaving her head was an act of rebelling against her team. Remember; around this time Lou Taylor was able to convince Britney’s parents that a conservatorship was necessary to “help her”. When her father learned of the financial benefit of it, you really think he was gonna let her end it? And also, she didn’t want to go on tour for Circus: Team C-ship made her. She wanted to spend time with her children. But ofc, team c-ship only sees the $$$$$$ in her name. #FreeBritney

I honestly cannot say one bad thing about Britney Spears. Just one thing I would complain about though. I saw her ‘Live’ on August 26th 2018 on her U.K. leg of the Piece Of Me Tour.. the dancing was amazing and she stood right in front of me for most of the concert, she is so small. But she lip synced the whole concert and you could really tell. All she sung was the first half of Toxic and that’s because it was acoustic. And you could really tell that she hadn’t been singing the rest. Either way it was one of the best days of my life!

THE BEST COMEBACKS EVER in pop music history are:
    1. Mariah Carey's Emancipation of Mimi
    2. Britney's Circus
    3. Madonna's Confessions on a Dancefloor
    4. Kylie Minogue's Light Years/Fever
    5. Cher's Believe
    6. Kesha's Rainbow
Possibly Lady Gaga's Chromatica will be added to that list soon but time will show 👍. Also, want to mention that I agree with a comparison of Reputation to Blackout. In 2017, when Rep was released, I was almost 16 and I remember prior to the release of the album, in summer of that year, I was heavily listening to Britney's singles Gimme More and especially Piece of Me as I was going thru a lot of personal struggles that in a way affected my "reputation" and how people saw me. I call that particular time in my life 'Blackout' and whether I listen to Piece of Me, Gimme More, Look what you made me do or I did something bad, I get a glimpse of that period in my mind. I think both records are like this ultimate confession and settlement with 'bad media karma' 😏✌️.

I remember I was so little when this album came out and I instantly fell in love with it. “Womanizer” became my ultimate favorite music and video at that time. Both the song and the video are classic Britney. The “Circus” era was definitely a re-peak of her career. Also, the album as a whole is a collection of infectious and classical pop songs that only Britney can deliver. Shattered Glass, Blur, Amnesia, Kill The Lights, Out From Under, Unusual You, Mannequin are the definition of pure pop songs.
    My favorite music videos:
    1. “Womanizer”
    2. “Circus”
    3. “If you seek Amy”
    4. “Kill The Lights” deserved a proper music video.
    5. Unusual You” or “Shattered Glass” deserved more.
I just can’t include “Radar” on here because the whole song is a reject from “Blackout” and therefore whenever I watch the video and hear the song I think of how strange it sounds next to the other songs. I don’t dislike “Radar”, but it’s screaming “Blackout” production wise and that’s an off for me. Maybe I know the song’s history and that’s why something isn’t clicking.
    My favorite five songs:
    1. “Womanizer”
    2. “Shattered Glass”
    3. “Circus”
    4. “Out from Under”
    5. “Photography”/“If you seek Amy” (the whole album is an amazing body of work and I have so many favorites).
    Good ol’ times!
I think an important factor in the success of the “Circus” era was, again, her star power. Britney’s name became so big that somehow overshadowed her music and talent. Don’t get me wrong, I love “Circus” and I think it’s one for the books, but I didn’t see growth and pushing boundaries from Britney herself, from Britney the artist. She seemed so out of touch with everything. She just lost it somehow. I don’t know how to explain it, but Britney ‘THE ARTIST’ circa 2007-present is a complete different artist from the Britney that first came out in 1998 until 2004. After the whole public fiasco, the umbrella accident, the shaving head, her children, she somehow stopped or lost her “artistic” touch - she stopped doing hard choreography, her involvement in the music process became insignificant, weird TV appearances, the X factor mess, Las Vegas residency taken so soon in her career and so on.
I think she deserved a complete break after “In The Zone” and things would have been different. Still, “Blackout” and “Circus” are great, great albums and are classic Britney. “Britney Jean” was a mess, a low point in her career. I think the lowest. “Femme Fatale” as a whole is cohesive and truly filled with so many hidden gems and potential hits.
I conclude this by saying that I love Britney, she’s been an important part of my childhood and teenage years, and I wish her nothing but the very best. She’s the last IMPACTFUL pop star of our generation and POP music is not the same without her.
P.s. Thank you for this video. I really appreciate your work. I truly miss her and for the future subjects I recommend you to discuss about how Britney would fit in this era of music/or if she needs to rebrand or not in order to be successful. Keep up the good work!

wow, such a great analysis, "Blackout was a reputation of sorts for Ms. Britney" I see what you did there hehe, very clever, (you're a hardcore swiftie hehe I can see that) but yeah Britney did a marvelous job when it came to addressing the media through here music (some might say she was the OG, who instead of disappearing confronted them...I think Blackout and Circus are like Ying and Yang, and that's why there are so great, they show 2 aspects of the same person back to back, and honestly I think those 2 albums are the truest sides of Britney. I could hear you speak for hours about this topic, felt the video too short hehe, but thanks so much for all your introspective about this. Be safe and thanks again!

It would be nice for you to analyse the era from 2005 to 2010 for Kelly Clarkson. She released Breakaway, her most succesful album, and was abused by her previous label, RCA. She went dark and put out My December in 2007 to fight her label and the industry. She was blackmailed into making her 2009 album All I Ever Wanted. People thought it was a comeback, but it was only a compromise to be able to release music.

That album deserves a statement cover, I picture it like Beyonce's homonymous in a colorful CD case like Bank's Goddess.... I don't know, Blackout just sounds black, purple, and deep blue to me, you know what I'm saying? 😂 whereas Circu's artwork is so on spot!
Anyways, great video as always, I love your channel 💜

I think that Circus is a great time capsule of 2008's pop and production sounds. Yes, it sounds a bit dated now (timblandy beats and drums, electronic influence, but not EDM inspired, hedonistic, none of the inwards "introspection" like Beautiful People by Ed Sheeran), but in a good way. It reminds you of another time.
After this, the scene would be changed with over the top antics from the likes of Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, bit crushed beats from Ke$ha (Tik Tok, Kiss N Tell), and an absolute assault on the charts from anything Dr. Luke touches.

I'm one of those who love Circus more than Blackout. You may debate that, but you can't debate that if it wasn't for Circus, Blackout wouldn't have its legendary status that it has now, retrospectively, thanks to Britney's refurbished and reintroduced image in Circus.

don't mean to nitpick but when you mention how the circus tour was the second highest grossing tour adjusted for inflation, on the chart it's actually ordered from least to most. so it's still rhe 19th most grossing tour of the 2000s lol
