    I've been struggling to get animation to work from maya for a long time but you showed me exactly what I was missing (selecting all the joints, not just the root joint and selecting all the keyframes). It works now and I can't thank you enough!

    I appreciated this tutorial. Well done! As a newcomer to Unity, this got straight to the point and got me working with animated material in quick time. Unlike a lot of the other 1hour + vids out there!

    To select all keys in Maya, it is actually shift + LEFT MOUSE BUTTON (while holding these) then drag to select all.

    I do have a question. I noticed you applied material after importing to unity. Is it better that way or can I apply textures in maya prior to moving the model over without issues? Also what if you have unwrapped a texture? do you need to do anything special?

    Hello, I just followed this tutorial and it is working great. However I've run into an issue after having added multiple animations to Unity. It seems like whichever animation state is set as default, will play, but if I use transitions, it will still only play the default animation. However, any animations made within Unity will still work properly. Is there something I haven't checked off that allows the Maya animations to transition to one another? Excuse me if I'm not making the problem clear.

    I have a question🤔 how do we export ocean shaders where the animation (wave turbulences etc.) is being settled in the attribute editor? I tried to create an ocean with the ocean shader and a simple plane. Now I want to export it so that it contains the wave turbulences that I set in the attribute editor settings of the shader. For use in my unity project. Thank you, hope you or someone else can help me👌✊✊

    Hi BlackThorn, Thx for the vid, I have a question please. I often see people doing all the animations in one single maya file and then separate them in maya exporter or unity. I don't really like it. I get that it can save you some time for the export maybe but I find it more simple to animate each animation on a different maya file. Can you do both, or you really need to do all the animations in one maya file?

    • @sarcasticanimator4404
      @sarcasticanimator4404 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both has props and cons. The benefit for doing sepperate files is, You can easily edit each animations and dont need to note each animations starting and ending frames.It is best for skeleton based animations.
      But for skeleton based+ non skeleton based animations, doing it in single file is good. In this case you need to note down each animations frame details(start and end). And also, sometime editing become little difficult

    Do you know how to create multiple actions within maya and then exporting them as saperate takes in fbx. I have been looking it up for weeks and I still do not have the answer. It's easy in blender, but I prefer maya for some functions. In blender it is possible to create multiple actions, wich then can be exported as callable idles in a game engine. But I still havent found a way to this the similar way in maya...

    Hi :-) thank you so much for the video! I have one question: I was trying to export a text animated with Maya into Unity because I'm building an AR app but something is not working. I have followed the same process that you have explained here but Unity is not recognizing my animation. It consists of some translation and rotation of the letters (so no rigging) because I would like to make them jumping, bouncing and so on ... Can you help me or there is anyone who knows how to solve this ?

    • @Blackthornprod
      @Blackthornprod  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Maria :) ! I'm afraid you need to have some rig for the method shown in this video to work ! Either just create one bone for all your text and animate that, or simply try animating your text directly inside of Unity :), hope this helps !

    • @mariagiuliabutto2747
      @mariagiuliabutto2747 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    great video, however that method only works for very simple rigs.. I spent about a month building a super complicated production rig with blendshapes etc., only to then realize that maya wont work with blendshapes.. any ideas?

    • @Blackthornprod
      @Blackthornprod  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey :) ! I'm quite sure Unity can work with Blendshapes (if you're sure it doesn't though simply work with bone based rigging which can be as effective and flexible). I'm not a pro when it comes down to rigging so I can't help you more than that I'm afraid. Just be sure you really need a super complex rig for your game. Don't spend hours and hours making a sophisticated skeleton you'll end up barely needing to use. Best of luck anyway :) !

      Controls and constraints will not work in unity. You need to export the rig only. But before that bake control and constraints animation into joints.
