I love this.
About the free course: Where did i find the other two games, i only got a video of de "geometry dash like"
Props to Lighthoof for making such solid work as the first dev
like how long did he spend? that's a full ass project
They've definitely upped the amount of time given to the first person, I think they've figured out it's very hard to pick up a bunch of half finished mechanics without a solid skeleton
The 16 yo said he had a week to work on the game (-school) so they definitely upped the time
Lighthoof is the name of a game the dev made. The dev is Dryden
@@bloob4719his name is dryden but his channel is lighthoof
The first dev basically "did a bit of mining of camera", every time I thought that he was wrapping up he would explain ANOTHER thing he did, kudos
jealous
@@JustaDev-py9tcNo
hahah love the minecraft reference
Off
Thanks so much for having me!! It was such an honor to start this and I really loved seeing how everyone added!
Good job 👍
Your start was insanely good. A great game concept , great art, amazing music.
Great job you gained a subscriber!
Good job
You killed it!
Lighthoof Dryden was the perfect 1st dev, wow.
This made my day thank you 😅
@@LighthoofDryden The G.O.A.T
@@LighthoofDryden It is true tho
@@LighthoofDryden you the Goat
@@LighthoofDryden Bro you made almost a whole game as the first dev!
Unlike most of these no communication games, this is a game I'd actually play if it were finished.
Honestly same
Me too, this was (imo) one of the better ones.
Yeah, I'd buy a full version in a heartbeat.
Most of the others have been complete garbage, this one actually looks playable.
I'd say the same for vermin
1st dev actually just made a whole demo lol
My face when ollie changed it to turn based:😑
My face when he made it a game mode:😃
W addition! Now you get the best of both worlds!
He made it a gamemode, but it seemed to confuse the rest of the devs as the combo Turn based real time stuff was basically untouched by the rest
It is always a bad idea to create multiple game mods in these games. Devs have very little time and now they have to worry about balancing multiple game mods.
Instead he should have either tweak the game to be less stressful or come up with a new solution to make the real time work.
However I don't envy his job especially in a very short time.
Ollie throwing in every video
When he implemented it I just thought, “Wasn’t that the entire point of the game so far?”
@katbiremanlive That's why I struggle with watching these sometimes. They come into project with an obvious direction and somehow just mess it up.
Everyone cooked this time, one of the most complete and polished games from this series. The guy that made the art styles match is the goat btw a mismatch of art styles is always something that bugs me about the games from this challenge.
yep, i may actually buy and play this game if it were expanded. but that old mismatched style would absolutely be a deal breaker to me, so the guy that saved the artstyle by making it coherent definitely polished the project in a much needed way
4:19, bro had such a redemption arc. especially since he kept the old mode. He actually sort of carried this ep
Fr
100% what a save
well i kinda like the idea of the old concept "you have to babysit ur king who move randomly and will suicide itself" wich isnt an issue anymore when you get in a turn based game where you can move EVERY piece at the same time then the king move, so the real time probleme of babysit ur king and have to do decision making of what piece u move and you do with them while the king continue to run aimlessly doesnt exist anymore, but that's just a different direction is idea wasne bad and probably easier to expend with and do a interessing balenced game, that's just less original than a turn based/real time game at the same time, but its probably for the best gameplay wise tbh
Nah he still took out half of the original concept for no reason besides the fact that he didn't like it. The real time strategy part of the wandering king was what made the initial concept so unique
@@argatarbut didnt he keep the original mode? As another gamemode
major props to mashup games for taking the criticism on board, coming back and doing a great job of working on the game
Yup just finished his part. It seemed like he was a little nervous to make bigger changes now but still he did a great job working on the game.
It's a good thing for devs to be on this multiple times, nearly everyone who came back improved from the criticism.
Personally, I would have liked if the king stayed real-time with the pieces turn-based to really emphasize how care-free he is in comparison to his strict subjects
and i hated that guy who made his movements not random and made him just follow the queen.
@@Xerbius_YT game still turned out better than 95% of other videos so im not tryna hate yk
You can just select chaos mode...
Changing to turn based was cleary much better for the rest of the developers implementations.
As per usual Oliver ruined the game with his own agenda, he always seems to come into the game with the idea to completely redo it instead of adding or building on what’s there
@@josephventura3632he did build off it this time tho since he kept the original chaotic gameplay but just added his version as an extra game mode instead of changing everything
MrLonelyDK did a fantastic job adding those final touches, the end product looked fantastic and the levels gave a perfect tech demo of what could be done with all the resources
I agree the first and last devs carried
I felt relief when he saved the artstyle!
Couldn't agree more@@logiarhythm6285
PLEASE DONT STOP MAKING THESE
Ayy it was so much fun working on this project! It was very different and unique compared to the other 2 I did, thank you so much BlackThornProd!
You're one of my favorite Devs to see work on these so far
Great work as always, Joe
It's actually really refreshing to see a completely different game concept from the previous videos. No boss battles, no tower defense, just something completely different. Love it!
Props to MrLonelyDK for coming in clutch with the art overhaul! No offense to the dev who added the 3D assets, but they definitely didn’t mesh very well with the art style of the characters
Edit: finished watching his part, bro was the best last dev this game could’ve asked for. Great job polishing the game!
I’m MrLonelyDK best friend and im sitting here like a proud dad with tears in my eyes 🥲
and Dryden was definitely the best first dev. He laid a very solid foundation to build off.
I love that you guys extended the Reactions + Dev meeting segment :)
The quality of this video was great
MrLonelyDK single-handedly saved the whole game. There was basically no gameplay additions after the first dev
Really liked this one, all the devs made thoughtful contributions and the whole thing came together really well in the end. I liked the direction the first dev took it and it was great to see everybody working to enhance such an interesting concept. Great job!
Lighthoof started this off amazingly.
11:30 **Cartboard Games sees turn-basd, chess themed puzzle game centered around traps and avoiding them.**
"It's too complex and slow. Let's remove the traps and add enemies."
There's always one, isn't there? I thought it was going to be MashUp this time, but he came in clutch by including both modes.
Edit: And MrLonelyDK comes in to save the day! Three cheers for MrLonelyDK. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
You know it’s gonna be good when the first dev already makes a functional game 😁
The dude that changed the level design to make more unique level shapes saved the game design and the last dude saved the visuals. What legends
First Dev was so OP
Props to lighthoof. He created a really solid foundation for the other devs to build off of.
"Add a hitpoint system instead of them just dying."
"HEEUUUOOAAAAA"
I think what would be nice is giving value to each of the pieces and then at the start of each level, you get to pick which pieces you'd like to use for the level instead of just giving them to you. Each level would have its own custom level value and you can't exceed that value with your pieces.
That’s such a good idea, I love affording the player more ways to approach like that!
Something I wanted to add was like, a “hiring phase” in between levels. During the rounds, if you played more efficiently or stepped on certain squares, you could get coins that would let you hire better versions of pieces or something! Your idea would really gel with that setup
Lighthoof is insane and he can play multiple instruments ??(
Olly redeemed himself - can't beat a good round of polish, and making turn-based/live-action toggleable is a great way to add "value" to the project. Hats off to the chap.
Mashup Games is based for keeping both movement styles in the game, devs for future videos should learn that kind of respect :D
After watching the rest of the video, all of these devs are cool, this is one of the best episodes yet
I love seeing Strompy and younger game devs add a significant amount to other’s projects. Cool seeing younger, competent people coming in to help out, and do better than most adults
Definitely cool when someone with their time stretched as thin as his is can come and dedicate their time to what they love. Pathways like this, to be a part of a larger project and come with a strong work ethic, will definitely set the way for a future more enjoyable and greater than 99% of the world. His English is quite good too!
👀👀
Yeah, definitely impressive; could just maybe ease it a little bit on the tiktok presentation style
@@Harsooo yeah it was really bothering me too
He destroyed the whole graphical style of the game though - thing looks like a shitty asset flip now
I think this one is my favourite project so far, the art style, gameplay and details are consistent, look professional and the game is replayable. Love the unique idea and character art!
This is like, the only one of these thst diesnt devolve into a generic horde shooter roguelike mess with a big final boss lmao
First dev is absolutely goated for doing something so different and interesting
HUGE props to MashUp Games for accepting criticism and improving based on it. Ollie really killed it this time.
Love the direction that this channel is taking! Would love to see some of those games get expanded beyond their first showing. Keep up the great work!
Agreed, they have made some really good potential games in these, if given the ability to communicate and a couple of months, you could see several of these becoming something. (The super hero fire putting out one, the carnival one and this one all seem to have bigger potential)
Honestly kudos to dev 5, added some really great additions that could be (and was) expanded upon for future devs, all with going to school and homework ect. Congrats! Great game everyone
First dev is the GOAT of starters
Damn, MrLonelyDK was cooking as the last dev!
All of the devs did so well on this project. Each person added their own charms to the game and the entire thing came out amazing.
This was a great pass the game challenge. It was very “yes, and?” Unfortunately there’s been too many instances of some game devs absolutely doing their own thing instead of adding on to the previous devs vision. I think this series is best when they try to improve what they have instead of changing everything to fit what they like.
this is one of the best episodes ever, only got better with every devs adding something interesting
Used all my 5000 QI with this one🔥!! Good job to all devs!
4:19 i havent seen that video but wow that would suck to hear, glad u got back up from it to give it another shot tho!
The king no longer going anywhere and just following the queen is something I’m a bit conflicted on. It’s a cool mechanic, but it ruins chaotic mode.
I would actually 100% play this if it was fully fleshed out
Surely at some point, bring all the devs back that worked on one game to do another round to make it even more complete and flesh it out! Would b fun.
Yea, maybe 2 rounds for each dev. The first one should finish it.
But definitely don't add vitali
I love when the game devs use different art styles, and then one dev makes them all fit perfectly with the others. ❤
Finally, one that actually looks like it's worth playing
the editing is so nice
Dual Wielded is the goat
this is the best one yet, by a longshot. i'd genuinely consider buying it. it would be fun to see a continuation of this project in a future video
this looks awesome, so much props to the first dev that created a complete enough idea that was easy to expand on.
You’ve been putting these devs to WORK
“from around the world”
Proceeds to drop pins on two countries
What I would add would be evil versions of the queen, knight, rook, etc, that try to kill the king. To stop the evil pieces, the player has the ability to place traps of their own, however, this comes with a risk of killing one of the player’s own pieces. This would make each level very chaotic, very fast, and overall, add a new layer of strategy to the game.
Finally a good, original game. I was really hoping to see more than just another survival tycoon type game, and this is perfect! I'm not even such a fan of puzzle games, but the devs really did a solid job on this one. They all complimented each other flawlessly.
This was a great episode and the game looks brilliant. I'd love those Devs to get together and properly finish it.
The first and last dev were incredible. I also really liked the sound effects.
love how this came together. i'd definitely like to see it expanded and more polished, but the basic pitch and art style is already fun. also loved the vibe with the music, voices and lighting. really well done.
The strategy aspect proposed by the first dev [and the music] was super cool!
Holy shit the music and the voices are gorgeous 😍
can we all thank the dev that cleaned up the visual pls my eyes bless you
This one came out great. I'd be interested in playing a finished version of this, for sure.
Every single dev contributed something great, too. Lighthoof actually just started by making the entire concept in one go, somehow.
I have no complaints!
The challenge with finishing a game jam project stems from ownership issues, where contributions vary widely in terms of effort and expertise. An equal split of shares among all collaborators doesn't accurately reflect the input and stops development, as the best devs are under-compensated.
To address the problem, a Tiered Profit Sharing system should be used, categorising contributions into distinct tiers (Minor, Moderate, and Major) to reflect the level of impact and corresponding to a specific share amount (1, 5, 20, respectively). This system advocates for a transparent process where the unbiased community votes on the tier that each developer's contributions warrant.
This approach addresses ownership challenges by ensuring rewards are directly proportional to the effort contributed, and motivates developers to complete the project by mitigating the impact of unhelpful or disinterested contributions.
This is a much needed change for the game competitions
Honestly hoping this gets revisited, I love chess and this is a pretty unique spin on it. It would be a shame to let all that work go unappreciated; beautiful art, music, enjoyable gameplay.
the recolouring of the tiles was such a great fix, it was getting hard to look at haha, great job y'all
@LighthoofTheGame you rock man!
All the Experienced Devs made our experience exponentially greater :)
Ollie and his Ex rival need to come back and go Against DuelWeilded and AIA to see who's the best Duo on this channel
I love that they expanded on the other devs work, it’s refreshing to see. No game breaking changes, and it worked out really well. Definitely helped that the first dev basically made a demo, but solid work from everyone! I’d play this if it were released.
Dryden basically made the whole game.
*Camera in any game is steady*
Strompy - "Yeah, I couldn't let that slide."
exactly
Definitely the best game yet. All the devs built on what came before and maintained a clear vision.
This is one of the best collaboration that you've created, all developers' ideas and improvements made the game much better!
Bro, 1st dev was WAYYY over qualified. He went WAYYY to hard!!! Legend
Dryden cook at the beginning
This looks amazing, can't wait for more collaborative game Dev challenges!
You should do one with developers from each time zone, they have 24 hours, each developer gets 1 hour.
ive been watching these over the weeks and i like to see that you guys are really trying to develop this series with the viewers feedback in mind. its really starting to come into its own
What do you see in him?
Queen: “he makes me laugh.”
Dev 1 cooked 🔥🔥🔥
In my opinion this is one of the best games created yet in the pass the game challenge! All the devs did an amazing job!
except 2nd dev
Agree! Really liked this one!
Final product is so sick, always amazed by what the devs pull together
This series of videos is just getting better and better you guys are really doing you’re best (and it shows) keep up the good work🎉❤
This was some of the best series of developers I’ve seen in these challenges yet. They synergize incredibly well. The first dev made probably the best base I’ve ever seen. Sound effects and music were on point. We had good gameplay decisions and some questionable ones. We had level design. And then we had good polish. Perfect for this game.
I wanna see some devs attempt to make a VR game, itd be especially interesting if these game devs had no VR experience
Well done Mashup games and all other devs, I find this very interesting
The longer startups and limited removal clause have had such a powerful effect on the end product. The final game is different than the original idea but is still a working game! Fancy that. Also, Blackthorn showing up in the video calls in a black suit makes this feel like a Polybius experiment.
Big thing, please relase these games to the public if not already. Even if it's just a beta or whatever. Some of these games if not all are super super cool!
They all are playable, check the description
Starting with a weird genre and seeing how devs work with it is a lot of fun- future contestants, try starting with a visual novel just for the madness. Hehe.
Would absolutely love to see this expanded on! A very cool unique idea here 💪 would love to see new environments and more maps!
Really nice, I think this is one of the best and most cohesive games I've seen from this series.
Super guys !! You make as always such top quality videos here for the community 🤩🤩
I just want to give a shoutout to mrlonelydk for doing the movement system rework! It's one of those "unsung-hero changes" that made such a big difference in making the levels way more visually exciting/interesting than if it was just left as a rectangular grid. Great job!!
The first and last dev actually did so much
So cool how this game turned out! Was pretty easy to work on since the foundation was super strong, thanks again for inviting me :)
The 7th dev gave it it's charm
DRYDEN, although you didnt win that 10k, you are a million dollar dev. and mashup games, you redeemed yourself
That's actually one of the most completed project briefs they've ever done!
Imho this is the best collab so far for all the reasons that have already been mentioned. I love this one.
