    I have flown on the dash 8 q400 several times and I have always pre-booked the exact seat you chose because it has the best view of the ground and engine and wing. But the dash 8 will always have a special place in my heart as she was the first bird I ever flew on. Great video!

  • @jackyclaiborne2142

    it's funny how the 60 cycle flicker of the video freezes the motion of the prop blades, and creates optical illusions of the prop not even sinning, or rotating slow or backwards. I personally love flying in turboprop airliners because I love the sounds that the props make, the "Box Fan" sound in ground idle, and taxiing, and the "Bumblebee" sound or "low pitched" drone in takeoff and inflight. I've heard that most of the public is not aware that the turboprop engine is turbojet engine with a propeller attached. Most think it's a turbocharged piston driven propeller engine like that of the old Dougless DC-7, or that of a Porsche. If you listen to the engine when it fires up, you can hear the whine of the jet engine as the propeller starts to rotate and gain speed.

    • @sla31
      @sla31  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s funny how the different frame rates can change the way the props look on film. If you really want to see a cool one, watch one of my Sint Maarten spotting videos. The frame rate on the camera I use for spotting matches perfectly with the ATR’s engines when at full throttle. You hear the engines go to full power, but the blades appear to stop in mid air haha. Anyways, I’m also surprised a lot when people don’t understand how a turbo prop works. Thanks for watching my friend!

      My wife, & I won't get on another ERJ 145 again if we can help it. After our slightly hair raising experience, & learning of their poor safety record over some recent years no thanks. The Metroliner made me tad nervous too. Flew a Saab once the one engine had a engine vibration. Most others I've never had a problem with. I like the CRJ, & Q400's the best.

We made an emergency landing in Pasco, WA. But the pilots were so calm and collected as if this was a routine landing. I actually love flying small regional jets like the ERJ 145 and CRJ-700 because they are like "private jets" for peasants.

      @@lanerailvideo5928 ERJ 145? Do you mean the Embraer 120 Brasilias? Cause those were the poor safety record ones. Don't be scared of turboprops. The Q400 has a very reliable reputation and is great for short haul. Same with the much smaller and older Twin Otter. Twin Otter has flown for 60 years almost cause its that good. Metroliner is an older plane. One turboprop I'm not a big fan of is the ATR. It has safety issues with icing in the past.

    Great Video bro. I'm in love with Bombardier q400 as this was the first plan i ever travelled through... We were so scared...We call it here Spicejet bombardier q400 in India. It travels in very limited areas around the country.
    We were so impressed by the propellers. 😂 Y'all must admit the sound of the propellers gaining speed and while Taxing is love!!!! When it stops s bit after taxing and suddenly boosts up to takeoff..... Maaann that sound and thump🔥🌪️..... Thanks for Amazing Video nd Experience. Keep growing ❤️

    How does the reverse thrust on a turboprop work?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So turboprops propellers can "feather" which means the angle of the blades can be changed by the cockpit crew. This means they can change the angle of the prop to bite more of the air, or they can feather it out during cruising to be more efficient. Well, the same idea is used for their reversers. They feather the blades of the prop so they are no longer pulling the aircraft forward . Instead they are pushing air forward. So basically the angle of the blade is reversed. Hope that makes sense my friend.

    What would you estimate the decibel levels to be inside the cabin? Kinda curious about flying on one of these before they retire, but I have a terrible loud noise sensitivity

    • @sla31
      @sla31  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the Q in Q400 actually stands for "Quiet." Aeronautically speaking the plane is classified as a DHC-8-400, but in promotional material it was called the Q400. Bombardier claimed the decibel level inside the cabin on Q400's is between 65-75 depending on where you sit. Which is pretty much on par with other regional jets like the CRJ-200 and ERJ-145. Of course, a big downside to turboprops in the past was that they were very loud. Having flown on many RJ's and Q400's, I'd agree with Bombardier that the Q400 is pretty much the same, noise wise, as flying any other regional jet.

    This is probably my first time ever to watch one of your Full Flights,gate to gate,no fast forwarding! It wasn't until we were on final approach that I remembered this was the model aircraft that Alaska Airlines mechanic/ramp agent took for a joy ride some time ago,ended up running out of fuel,crashing somewhere I believe,south of the airport. As I've remarked in one of your earlier postings,the prop blade movement vs frame rate drives me crazy! You're undoubtedly much more techno-savvy than I--what kind of camera would it take to have the blades appear like our eyes see them,a continous circle? When you zoomed in to Mt Rainier,the blades almost seemed to want to pop out of my desktop screen! I even reached out my right hand to see if it would be 'shredded' into a bloody,gory mess! :) Gorgeous day for flying,were you connecting elsewhere?

    • @sla31
      @sla31  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, to see the props as our own eyes see them, you’d need a seriously expensive camera. If you were going to translate the way our eyes process images into the same way a camera does, your eyes would see images at about 1,000 frames per second. This video was shot at 30 frames per second. Even the slow motion features on my current cameras only record at 240 frames per second. And again, although there are cameras that can shoot at 1000 frames or more per second, they are very expensive and need A LOT of light to get decent images. So, it will be a long time before commercial grade camera equipment exists that can record stuff on that level easily. Anyways, I was connecting on. However, I was switching airlines to Delta and was continuing on to Minneapolis. That flight has already been posted.

      Then it wouldn’t be a “full flight”. Believe it or not, these ultra long videos are, BY FAR, the most views/most popular videos on my channel. That being said, I realize not everyone can sit down for a full 1-2 hour video. So, that’s why I post all of the takeoffs and landings separately in 10-15 minute videos. Although I haven’t done that yet for this flight. Thanks for watching my friend.
