the dash got hands down the coolest idle sounds ever
They do sound great while taxiing, always a pleasure to fly on these impressive turboprops.
That frame rate timing at the end just made the video.
It's always funny to see when the prop RPM matches with the camera frame rate.
I know that pilots are doing something from the sound of the engine ❤

The opposite is the view I got the first time I landed at YVR, nice approach and the other side view of the cascade mountains is stunning too!
I always love flying in and out of YVR, you get some great views from all directions.
Nice! It was cool watching, and hearing, the pilots use the prop condition controls when taking corners. I was watching what phase the props were in by looking at the tips and how they were biting the air (flat or up/down). Was hoping you could crane to see the gear leg but eh, beggars can't be choosers. Beautiful footage! Thanks and I hope your trip was great!
Thanks so much for watching! It's always interesting to see and hear the different power and setting of the prop/engine. It's always a lot of fun flying on these turboprops, especially when you can get the prop view.
@@TheHDAviation I love engine views, and wing views too! Getting to watch flap and spoilers during take-offs and approaches/landings is cool, as well as thrust reverse systems on both prop and jet aircraft. Wheel retraction is a bonus!
@@sski Wheel retraction is always cool to see for sure, that's one of the other things I really enjoy about flying on the Dash.
@@TheHDAviation I flew on a DSH-7 back in 1989 looking right out at the starboard main LG and got to watch it go through its cycle, as well as flap cycles. It was an amazing aircraft.

Great onboard departure footage! Great to sit by the engine there, makes such a lovely sound! Hopefully when I fly on the Air Canada Q400 I'll be on a window seat by the engine, as I can't select seats...

Best part of this video is you can tell precisely how the pilots start in lo-idle condition with prop feathered and throttle at idle for pushback reasons. Then at 3:08 switch to hi-idle condition, shortly after at 3:19 moving the prop out of feathered to “high” for taxi power. Then at 4:56 back to feather to reduce taxi power down from idle for taxi. Back out of feather, etc. The utility of turboprop is just so much better than piston.

I'm just so amazed by how these Q400's often sound like a classic SAAB 340B.
I can only imagine what American Eagle might've been like had they ordered and made use of a big fleet of Q400's and SAAB 2000's, instead of newer ATR's and CRJ's.
These Q400's also sound like older de Haviland Twin Otters at takeoff.

Yes, the acceleration in the Q400 is much stronger than in most jet airliners.
I always love the way the Q400 throws you back in the seat, such a fun aircraft to fly on.

What flight u take from YVR to fly in one?
This flight was to YCG in Castelgar, British Columbia. It's the only aircraft they fly on that route.
13:30 is that already Vancouver Island and Victoria over there?
I think they are the little islands just off of Vancouver Island, it's amazing how quickly they come into view. I'd love to do that short flight some day, between YVR and YYJ.
