Agreed. He's probably my fave (though I do think Daniel Craig is doing a pretty good job making Bond the slightly more ruthless character from the books as well). Shame there were only two with Dalton though. Really revitalized Bond as a bad ass as well as the suave ladies man, I think.
Best Bond in my opinion. No one else had the edginess, smoothness, sophistication and seriousness that Dalton had. He felt like a real spy and not an actor. The rest of them all felt like actors.
+Crab Bisk 100 % agreed, it's hard for any actor to have those qualities combined like you mentioned (edginess and smoothness, sophistication and seriousness) at the same time, but Dalton delivered. He doesn't throw smart-ass remarks every second, he only delivers them when it's necessary (or when it makes sense). Sean Connery and Daniel Craig have similar qualities in the latter part IMO, but even they can't compete with Mr. Dalton with the overall delivery.
+Crab Bisk Interesting opinion, I've never heard anyone name Dalton as their favourite before. I'm watching them all again in chronological order at the moment and now I'm looking forward to seeing what you ment. For me personally, I like Moore the best. When Christoper Nolan, the best director of the 21st century in my opinion says Dalton was his favourite Bond actor, I think we have reached a point where Dalton can never be underrated. He was just to good. He gets better with time.
They wanted Dalton since 1969, and his first movie as Bond was almost two decades later. And THEN, they wanted him back when the series was revived in '95. All we got to show for it was two movies (still great films, though). I wish they'd actually made better use of him in his prime.
That was the funny thing. Before they cast Connery they wanted Moore. Then before Moore accepted the role. they then wanted Dalton. but he turned it down because he felt he was to young for the role. So they cast Moore. Then before they cast Dalton. They wanted Brosnan, but he was contracted to do Remmington Steel. So they cast Dalton.
SlashMan.EXE He was in his 40's I believe when he made Living Daylights. As you probably know he flat out refused to be part of the series in his 20's citing that he was too young for the role. I think he did really well, and two films is not bad. Licence to Kill being the best in my opinion.
Very true! Both The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill are among my favorite films in the series. I even have an Airsoft Walther PPK/S with a mock suppressor and a similar shoulder holster to the one Tim Dalton sports in Licence To Kill(one of my James Bond 007 collecting Holy Grails, but that is another story for another time.)

In fact I would say The Living Daylights is my second favorite James Bond movie(I think I must have watched it over 20 times by now, and I own quite a bit of the merchandise associated with it), and Licence To Kill is my fourth. Also many times when I read the James Bond novels written by Ian Fleming, it is Tim Dalton I see as James Bond in my imagination. The same goes for John Gardner's books as well. Part of me wishes that Tim Dalton had gotten a chance to lend both his 1980's likeness and his voice to James Bond in a Video Game adaptation of either of his movies or a new story when EA had the license from MGM and Eon Productions. A photo of Tim as 007 from Licence To Kill was however used as cover art for the 1993 Sega James Bond video game, The Duel however.
I like the fact that both of Daltons movies are being appreciated much more than they originally were thanks to the recent Craig movies and the same approach they have taken that Dalton did.
Daltons films are more appreciated now as we can see what the real bond was like,,craig is a good bond but his films are awful and casino royale is the only decent film.
Really wish he would have at least done GoldenEye before calling it quits. Dalton captured the hard-nosed attitude of the Fleming books like no other actor so far.

I love his portrayal of Heathcliff in Weathering Heights as well. Even though I'm not much of a Doctor Who fan anymore, I do love him playing a timelord villain.
I like all the bond actors for different reasons and have enjoyed each of their runs. I have to say, Timothy Dalton was a very good portrayal of James Bond. He had the looks, the intensity, the intelligence and the sense of humor that was very entertaining to watch.
If Dalton shaved his hair he would look very striking still. He was so stunning before especially in Jane Eyre it's almost painful to watch his handsome face and powerful stature. Unforgettable!
I agree! In my opinion, Timothy Dalton's cold portrayal paved the way for the bleak assassin that Craig represented in his era. DC owes a great bit of his contribution to the 007 to TD!
One of my personal favorite actors to take the role. Truly an underrated talent; truly, he was the prototype for the Bond the 21st century knows and now loves.
I agree it is a pity that due to all of the legal stuff with UA/MGM in the 1990's that Dalton never got his chance to make more movies. Goldeneye was originally going to star him until he announced that he was stepping down in 1994 from the set of Scarlet. Still he is one of my favorite actors to have played James Bond.
best 007 because he played closest to Fleming's Bond, tallest actor to play 007, green eyes, handsome with grittiness, and best gunbarells Dalton was offered in 1968 to play 007 and withdrew from GoldenEye in 1994

Dalton was a great Bond. He was apparently approached earlier for the role (according to his bio in Wikipedia) but he said he was too young (about mid 20s) and he did not want to take over from Connery because it was too daunting an undertaking for him. Still, I also agree that the producers should have turned to him in the early 80s instead of clinging on to Moore. He would have made AVTAK, Octopussy and FYEO so much better than they were. My favorite Bond by far! Dalton's portrait, just like Fleming's, was that of a man who is not finding his humanity, but losing it. This guy is the closest we've had to the way Ian Fleming wrote the Bond character.
That's cool that he's kept up with the new Bond series and thinks its terrific. I agree with everything that's been said about Dalton's portrayal of 007 referring to it as the best of the bunch. At the end of the day, there's only one Bond.
This man deserved to have gotten at least a third Bond Movie with him as the lead. And he still is MY Bond and really the face of 007 when i think of James Bond in general. Because he felt like the most realistic & authentic characterization of Bond. This man has a sheer mesmerizing presence. And that goes for every role he has played.
I allways loved Dalton, even as a kid. I thought he was "the real deal" so to speak. Pierce Brosnan felt like he knew that the cameras were there, and he looked to "fat" in his face. Bond to me is suposed to be fit, atletic and cunning, and also as Flemming portray him in his books, Bond needs to be grumpy and misogynist. When he strikes back at his enemies he has to have a bit of hatred in his heart, I think Dalton shows that pretty good in his acting!
You rock Timothy!!!! The Living Daylights is my number one favorite James Bond movie ever! Timothy Dalton was amazing as James Bond! I love The Living Daylights so much!!! It is my favorite Bond movie! I love you Timothy!!

I haven't watched any of the Dalton ones but I hear such great things, I need to get on that. I think he's one of the better bonds even from the select few clips I've seen him in :D
+Nicholas S. You wont regret It, just beware of the great tone shift from living daylight to licence to kill. They're like nights and days but he's good In both of them :)!
Tim was a superb bond and he deserved at least 3 more bond films to cement his input on the franchise. He deserved far more recognition as bond and he was far more realistic and true to the ian fleming novels..He was better than moore and brosnan in my opinion.
Timothy Dalton had been repeatedly requested by the producer Albert Broccoli himself to take the role of James Bond since the moment Sean Connery left the series after You Only Live Twice due to his concern over his young age at the time. This man is above Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and George Lazenby on the list of the actual makers of 007. Enough said.
for me he is the best james bond he played it very well...license to kill...and the living daylights and golden eye are my fave bonds but to bad he did not play bond in golden eye..
License to Kill is a really good film. Great villain, plausible story, not far fetched,... apart from the plane ‘tip up’ at the beginning. Great theme tune, and I love that he’s depicted as a sniper in BOTH his films, as that’s more in keeping with the actual job. Dalton was darker, more aggressive and his duo are being seen differently now that DC has picked up that mantle. Underrated from the start.
He is one of those actors that raises the quality of any of the movies he is in ( Dr Who, Flash Gordon), as for On Her Majesty's Secret Service , its just a shame Lazenby pulled the pin and didn't make at least one more, to see Bond go apeshit on Kojak for killing Ms Peel, would have made for a brilliant movie, instead its just a back ground story.
Best Bond ever! I fell in love with Timothy Dalton while watching him in Jane Eyre movie while little girl in the Soviet Union (in Russian). Recently I watched the movie again with my daughter in English.

That's cool that he's kept up with the new Bond series and thinks its terrific. I agree with everything that's been said about Dalton's portrayal of 007 referring to it as the best of the bunch. At the end of the day, there's only one Bond.
always liked him as bond.
A great Bond. Cannot believe it's been that long since The Living Daylights and License to Kill. Wish he'd been able to do some more!
He just had the charisma
Brosnan looked in good shape to me.
@@gandhibhagat285 Good perspective!
You rock Timothy!!!! The Living Daylights is my number one favorite James Bond movie ever! Timothy Dalton was amazing as James Bond! I love The Living Daylights so much!!! It is my favorite Bond movie! I love you Timothy!!
they need to make a new 007 game with Timothy voice over in the game.
+Dwayne Overton That would be so cool!I think his Bond need to be immortalised In a video game too.It would be like giving him and the fan the third movie he should of had (Y)!
Yes would love a game where you can switch between pierce, Timothy and roger. Timothy the most underrated bond ever.
I know we all age, but I can't believe thats the same guy.. best looking bond of them all
This guy is the most under-rated Bond and one of the greatest of all time!
They made a terrible mistake of not making more Bond films with Timothy Dalton.
I love both of his films.
+nobodyinterestingyou Cool, thanks :)
Nicholas S. any luck yet?
Personally I'd watch License to Kill first... and if you like it, then you get to see him do a proper old school Bond film in TLD...
They described his Bond as cold. Bond is a killer for hire, he doesn't kill with a smile on his face, he's there to do his job.
Watching licence to kill just now. He was defo a great bond. Never got the credit. He looked like you think bond would look like. If you get me.
TD was an excellent Bond. He played it just as hard edged as DC given the era. He's one of my favourites.
He made a pretty good bad guy in "The Rocketeer."
For sure
Timothy Dalton filled the Bond role best between 1987-89. No one else could've done those movies better than him. Living legend!
Tim was a superb bond and he deserved at least 3 more bond films to cement his input on the franchise. He deserved far more recognition as bond and he was far more realistic and true to the ian fleming novels..He was better than moore and brosnan in my opinion.
My favourite Bond. Always been disappointed he didn't get to make any more films. The Living Daylights is my favourite from the entire series.
Dalton and Craig are my favorites, they're incredible!
"It is the 500 pound elephant in the room" Dalton's reaction is incredible.
0:28 lmao
That's not actually a very big elephant. It's more like 1.5 Americans.
Shame he did not do more bond movies they would have been fantastic
for me he is the best james bond he played it very well...license to kill...and the living daylights and golden eye are my fave bonds but to bad he did not play bond in golden eye..
He was supposed to be in Goldeneye but the role went to Brosnan
i no
His Bond was excellent and his movies exciting. Very underrated and beats Brosnan and Craig too...
He made 2 great movies . ❤
They should have made on her majestys secret service a prequel instead, timothy dalton was perfect for young james bond,
He is one of those actors that raises the quality of any of the movies he is in ( Dr Who, Flash Gordon), as for On Her Majesty's Secret Service , its just a shame Lazenby pulled the pin and didn't make at least one more, to see Bond go apeshit on Kojak for killing Ms Peel, would have made for a brilliant movie, instead its just a back ground story.
Him and Sean were the only 2 of the bonds who understood Bond. They were proper bonds.
Dalton was the best bond
The Living Daylights and License To Kill, both awesome films! Dalton is the man.
Dalton vastly underrated as bond. Craig is most overrated
sean connery is most overrated
Well Roger Moore is overrated.
MrEvaris i guess not so many appreciate Moore as great Bond, so he is not overrated, he is just okrated.
I don't care about all these underrated or overrated craps.I like both of them and they are act like what Ian Fleming's bond is suppose to be.
MrEvaris i dig u
Best Bond ever! I fell in love with Timothy Dalton while watching him in Jane Eyre movie while little girl in the Soviet Union (in Russian). Recently I watched the movie again with my daughter in English.
