JAMES BOND - Timothy Dalton. 007.

  • Dalton portrayed Bond in The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989), the fifteenth and sixteenth entries in the franchise. Unlike Moore, who had played Bond as more of a light-hearted playboy, Dalton's portrayal of Bond was darker and more serious. Dalton pushed for renewed emphasis on the gritty realism of Ian Fleming's novels instead of fantasy plots and humour. (wiki)

    He ticked all of the boxes. He looked the part and was utterly believable as a professional spy. He was smart, aware, questioning, intense, moody, had little faith in the competence of others (his early exchanges with Saunders) and very human; all very much how Fleming detailed the character. Aside from the attache case in From Russia with Love, Bond never relied on gadgets; more so his own resourcefulness. This was one of the few things that let Dalton's Bond films down imo - he was the perfect actor to show Bond getting out of scrape without the assistance of gadgets.

    When I was a kid they would show old Bond movies on TV, and I was hooked when I saw Sean Connery's films. A few years later a large newspaper had a running campaign where you got a DVD of one Bond movie with a copy of their newspaper, one movie per week and it was in order from first to last (Die Another Day at the time). I picked up all the movies with Connery, a couple with Roger Moore and then it got to Timothy Dalton. I had never seen them and assumed that he must've not have been a good Bond actor when my dad told me he was only in two films.
    I bought the first movie anyway, and holy sh*t! I was blown away by how great he was as a Bond! I bought the second one and it was just as good. I couldn't believe that there was another Bond that was on Sean Connery's level, AND HE ONLY MADE TWO MOVIES!

    Dalton is the most underrated Bond ever. He read the Fleming novels to get into character, didn’t want to copy what Roger Moore had done, turned down the role twice because he was too young the first time, and turned in two of the most underrated Bond films in the series. For me, he’s my #2 Bond behind Connery. Were it not for all the lawsuits and legal issues in the early 90’s, he would of done at least two more before handing over the reigns to Brosnan.
    Imagine an alternate universe where Connery gets the novel version of Moonraker as his final outing, Lazenby gets a revenge trilogy, Moore has Octopussy as his swansong in 1981 and Dalton gets the role from 1983 onwards with a legacy of For Your Eyes Only, View to a Kill, Living Daylights, Licence to Kill, and Property of a Lady/Risico. Man, that was such a kickass edit! Watching this kind of makes me glad that we got the two movies that we got from Dalton. Yes, it's a shame that he didn't do more, but what we got was of such high quality that I'm very content with it. He is (and probably will for a long time be) my favorite Bond

    • @A203D
      @A203D 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mine too. He takes his job so seriously, it feels different from the previous Bonds. It feels like duty to his mission is all he has left. But beyond all the previous Bond's he can't hide his emotional attachment to his duty.
      I also like how he is so intelligent. Rather than go in guns blazing he used deceit and espionage to complete the mission.
      Daniel Craig in my view just coulnd't get it right. He feels like a man trying to imitate James Bond without capturing the rich depth that Timothy Dalton gave us.

    • @A203D
      @A203D 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You know the thing with that is after three films I feel the quality only goes downhill.
      I feel Sean Connery's first three films were brilliant, but it was all downhill after that, with Diamons Are Forever I think being his worst film. Similar story with Roger Moore. His first three films were his best, and it went downhill afterwards, with A View To A Kill being one of the worst Bond films. Same thing with Pierce Brosnan. Even his films were not that good, but Die Another Day was another low point for the series.
      Daniel Craig same things. Casino Royale and Skyfall are brilliant films, but after that I think they were getting unbearable. Blowfeld as Bond's long lost brother. Who the hell wrote that?
      Timothy Dalton did two phenominal films and I would have liked him to do one more, but I'm glad he did do so many like the others. Some of the films became unbearable.

    Just saw “License to Kill” last night. Bond at his most ruthless. As Fleming intended and Dalton delivers.
    Watch closely. Dalton brings such a credible sense of determined vengeance on the screen it resonates in virtually every scene that, in many respects, surpasses Connery and his witty quips for every precarious occasion.
    There is a sense of unfettered realism in this picture from Bond’s everyday pedestrian attire to a minimum of ridiculous gadgets-no Aston to speak of-to the brutality and the sincere possibility Bond may just not make it out alive.
