I saw a video a while back of a guy standing about 20 ft away from a car that was on a dyno. Turbo blew and a shard went flying right at that guys neck or face. Instantly fell to the ground, lifeless, and started bleeding out. Friends just walked up to him in the most calmest manner but I believe that it was only due to the shock and not realizing that it was real.
The lack of safety in all these runs is astounding, dudes standing in front of a machine making 1000hp held back by 2 nylon straps, stepping on/around the rollers, standing right next to the motor at 9krpm @_@
Exactly, it’s like playing Russian Roulette....anything on that engine comes apart during that pull and it just might be the worst day of your life. Buddy of mine had a turbo failure during a pull similar to the Supra that spit the turbine out the exhaust. Long story short it took 2 gouges out of the floor, ricochet off that floor AND EMBEDDED ITSELF INTO THE CEILING. If someone had been standing anywhere near the side dump on the car, they’d have been killed-

I blew a turbine wheel out a downpipe once. The first bend it hit it breached right thru. Looks like the end of Elmer fudds gun after Buggs sticks his finger in the end. And it had a nice barrel roll dent along the pipe before the breach.
When my grand father opened up his shop in the late 70s, they had a Front engine dragster up on the stands switching over from Alcohol over to Nitro, belt broke on the blower , no guard , belt flew off and hit the dragster owner in the shoulder and jaw, broke a few vertebra , dude never walked again.

And he's right, the EXTREME vast majority of these are intake &/or turbo blow ups, not catastrophic engine failures... NOOB! Don't try to correct the adults kid.
I have, but it was a pro shop, with an engine on a stand, and nobody was allowed in the dyno room for the pulls. All these fairgrounds setups are a danger to everyone within throwing distance. Some of those parts can fly off at bullet speeds.
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I wouldn't want to be anywhere near those dynos during the run. Seems like a good way to get connecting rod chunks inside me

A car is only in a workshop coz theres something wrong . That makes it a safety hazard on its own ... And to the "cooling system dudes" maybe so , but nobody would like the coolant from a high performance engine's high pressure system to basically explode in your face. . .

nah that's just the motor rocking back when it hit all that boost. Stiff motor mounts can still flex. But a head lifting is visually impossible to see, thousands of an inch is all it takes. Unless the head studs were hand tight...but then it wouldn't run at all lol.
Haha “You can literally see” at 0:36 they blew the hose off the coolant line. Way too much fluid all over the place for it to be a head. When you lift a head or blow a gasket most of the fluid goes into the crank case with the oil.
Decently the customers and work staff need better protection. A turbine wheel broke and came out at such force it would of hit you, that’s its lights out call for a body bag. Nice video as plenty of new clips to watch

I use to put semi's on dyno lots of chain downing and exhaust fan systems. New ones are fun when the paint burns off the exhaust manifold starting fires at times One I remember had it up to 130 mph, can't imagine towing a trailer behind that rig and where it would happen. Guess out west on long straight highway
smh, gotta tune your car first egghead, otherwise youll waste money blowing engines. Better it blow up on the dyno, than leave you stranded in the middle of no where.

Many of them are still usable when it comes to the block and heads. A turbo failure can either be on the intake side or the exhaust side. That one supra that grenades it's exhaust side, it went through the downpipe
I know what you mean.. stupid to be so close to so many moving parts, one of any number of things fail and hit you and you may be dead.. piston, rod, tire, drive shaft or ujoints, turbo, cooling fan, and many more..
