      Is there anything physically wrong with them? Are they defective? If not, why? When you cook at home, do you need to change out your pots and pans every year? Does your roof need changing? How about your carpets, surely every year yeah? Maybe you should consider that you’ve just been brainwashed by a multi billion dollar international industry into irrational spending habits. Peter Finch is part of this industry too. Maybe stop watching golf on youtube if your bank balance is struggling from your literal addiction.

    Pete- I just had a lesson and it revealed a lot to me. The pro said, "you have the swing plane and consistency of a single digit handicap" but i routinely shoot 85 as a median. I (frustratingly) miss a lot of greens and fairways by ~5-10 yards after feeling like I put a really good swing on the ball. I really wanted to believe it was something I could change in my swing plane to get the small details working, but he put an x-stiff driver in my hands to replace my 12 year old stiff driver. I immediately gained 25 yards and dispersion tightened up. Same with the mid irons. I don't have the coin to afford a whole new bag of clubs, but it gives me a new outlook on what to look for in a used club. Pretty shocking, and I had absolutely no idea! I will continue to play and love the game regardless of the gear I have. It's a blessing that we get to go out and enjoy this game in the first place. Thanks for putting out good, reliable and honest content. You rock!

      85 median should be very close to single digit handicap and on many courses would be.

    The only thing I’d add is gapping across the bag is also a great reason to buy one or two clubs beyond the 14 just to give you an option depending on where you’re playing.

    I'm currently 45 years old, and I am using and playing with Ping Eye 2, Ping Zing 2 and Ping IST irons, as well as Callaway Big Bertha Irons, King Cobra Oversized Irons. The clubs are probably in the neighborhood of 10-20 years old, but TBH, I really don't care. I grew up playing this style of club, a cavity back Iron. I prefer the classic style from those years. Yeah the loft may not be as strong as say the newer Clubs of 2024, but again, I don't care. I'm out on the course having fun and that's really what matters. I built my entire set from buying really nice, clean, and well cared for Irons, woods, hybrids..etc from Facebook Marketplace.

    • @ryanu3708
      @ryanu3708 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I’m with you. I’m 64 and I still game Eye2’s I bought in 1990. They’ve been to Ping several times for refurb and they still look brand new. I hit them straight and I hit them consistent yardages. Combined with today’s premium golf balls these irons are still very relevant. I also game an old Cobra ZL driver from 2009 that I can absolutely bomb past any recent driver I’ve tested. My putter is a 1992 Ping Anser 2. Only my fairway metals are new equipment, G425 & 430 mix. I’m extremely confident with this kit and it would be hard for me to make a change.

      @ryanu3708
      Well said. I love the feel of the older clubs, I have little if any issues hitting them. Plus IMO they're very forgiving and still accurate for their age and being older technology. Karsten built and designed clubs IMO that were ahead of their time and still hold true in 2024.

    I play a 20 year old set of Olyo irons which I have always kept in good condition. I am 63 and have lost distance across the board. One regular player at the course had just bought a set of 1 year old Taylor made and said I should try a shot. The 9 went 20 yards further than I normally hit so I asked if I could hit a few balls. Apart from a couple of bad connections, the 20 extra yards was consistent. Time for new clubs.

  • @edwardspray5930
    @edwardspray5930 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

    At my 1 year mark-ish of playing, I went to a fitting for irons, it seemed I was suited to a standard length with a 2 up lie, they suggested the titilest t200s but I didn’t like the price point. So I took my fitting online with Takomo 101t. A week later after they arrived I shot my best 103 on a par 70. This is a huge change from averages of 110 to 120!! I hope it’s not just a coincidence.. I’m playing this Friday.

    Cleaning grooves, I do a quick brush before most shots, I got one of those brushes with a water reservoir, so it’s just seconds to clean the club up before a shot and wipe dry with a towel. If you play with a full group it’s very easy to do when it’s not your turn (and no one is in a distractible part of their routine)

    I bought the new P770 after 7 years with my previous set of irons (the Taylormade PSI Tour). I ended up selling the p770 and going back to my old irons: the newer were less consistant and just... they never felt as good. They looked miles better in the bag, but they ripped me off of all my pleasure in the game. When I got back to my old set, just to try it out, the fun came back instantly and I just knew at that point that I should sell the P770 and go back to my old ones. I may one day change to something similar as the PSI tour when they're too worn out - which they definitely are, but i don't see any performance drop or inconsistancies so... I'm keeping them! And my bank account thank me !

    My ideal Club is a 9ft Fly fishing Rod.
    I only started playing golf again last year after not playing for 30 years.
    I bought an old set of Callaway X12 Irons off eBay for £50.
    Ground and Polished all the scratches and dings out of them and fitted some good but very fake golf pride +4 grips. I also bought more modern but still 5-8 year old Taylormade Woods to go with them.And bought a couple of used (but not overly so) Forged Wedges 56 and 60 as you're going need those if you want low scores
    I still had my putter(s) from way back. ( but did fall into the trying other putters trap)so I now have about 8 putters
    I wasn't about to spend a ton of money kitting myself out for a game I loved but at some point but lost interest in. Initially I was going to the range twice a week and playing a round at least once a week. I was able to break 100 on my 8th round and was chasing breaking 90 up until November last year, when the courses became more like rolling around in the mud for a weekend at a rock festival, than playing golf, and cleaning my equipment took longer than the round. Unfortunately I was taken ill in February and Haven't played at all this year. (I had planned on joining my local club this year) I've been to the range twice and was happy that the work I'd put in last year meant I can still hit the ball "predictively well". Maybe next year then? It's the reason I didn't pay out for expensive clubs.
    I like playing Golf I know I'll never be that good. All I actually want is to play a round that I enjoy and where I can get back to the clubhouse look at my card and not think " If I'd have done this, or not done that the score could have been" in other words All the shots I played were the shots I intended to play. And there were no horrendous FUs, and that my score is respectable.
    If i can dust my clubs off every now and again to play a social round with friends or colleagues at work and Score 85-95 then I'm happy What I don't want to be doing is spending 3 nights a week up the range and playing 2 rounds a week then getting frustrated because I still can't break 80.

    I decided i needed new clubs. I ordered them (ai smoke) online on a Saturday. Monday i jumped from a plane and now have 11 screws in my sacrum and pubic bone. I haven't even seen my new clubs yet.

    Yes yes, we need new clubs every year, preferably a new ones and most importantly an expensive ones.

    Another thing to consider is the cost of the new clubs. I could benefit from new clubs on the golf course, but my band account would benefit from using the same old used clubs I have.

    I'm 64 now. I've lost clubhead speed and I've shrunk an inches 😮
    I'm shopping for new clubs because 2° upright, X100 shafts 3/4 long no longer fit my swing.
    I'm 100% sure I'll play better with a new set.

    My wedges are 4+ years old and I can still spin them. One bounce and stop. I just stopped pulling that money out of my pocket.If more golfers were to take lessons this will help there game more. Now if you have clubs 10 years old then yes get some new ones.

    I seem to hit my irons fairly well. I've had them 3 years. They are definitely a few years older than that. The heads of the clubs are looking good groove wise, but the shafts are starting to look worn. Would it be ok to have newer shafts fitted at the same length and lie?
