I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!
I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

Terrific video Coach. My ball striking and distance improved when someone described the golf swing as more of a SLING, not a swing. It just made so much sense. The lead leg is a brace but also a brake, in your example.
I watch way too many golf videos. The most BRILLIANT explanation it’s how to use the GROUND to slow down to gain the whip effect👍 that’s a key way to explain the importance of ground forces. I want to control tempo but never can. I see why
Paddy harrington always talks about this... but you made sense of it for me.
Glad to help 👍
Ditto, I’ve heard a lot of coaches talk about this but never truly “got” it until I saw this chap
It’s mainly because Paddy is hard to understand because of his thick accent. Love him though
Brilliant never had it explained so clearly definite lightbulb moment! Now get ready for the other TH-camrs to come up with their versions. Thanks Coach.
If you're that well versed in golf YT and its proclivities it's a bit weird you don't know Harrington did a vid on this moons ago.
slow down ur golf swing by starting fast, then slow down, then speed up, then slow down .... got it !
Good swing thoughts lol
Sorry can you repeat that
The video is 8 minutes 38 seconds long. It would make more sense to you if you watched more than a minute and twenty seconds.
I’ve heard a lot of coaches talk about this, but never truly “got” it until I saw this chap
Great delivery, I can’t wait to try this…it makes perfect sense to me!! Thanks 🙏🏼
Well done Coach Lockey! Brilliant!
Gobsmacked! 😱
Something to do for next winter.
I’m sticking to my current swing this summer.
One fantastic lesson Coach! Thanks!
Great lesson! Thank you!
This Pro is absolutely insane!!!!!!! I told you many times ♥️♥️♥️
Always admired the Coach’s swing.
I'll give it a try thanks coach
I like your reasoning about the mechanics. Look good. Going to the driving range tonight !
THANKS !! Great Video !!
Makes real good logic. Now I need to apply it. Thank you. RAy
You explained it better than anyone else so far - thanks!
Nice explanation Lockey
Been thinking about hand speed a lot - but really appreciate the way you broke it down so I can see how to get the right tempo
This was, by far, the best explanation I've ever seen. The swing is a leading whip with the lead side...not from the trail side. Excellent!!
@@jackflash8756 Explain please. Details to understand your thoughts help.
Love this drill! I see so many people trying to “hold lag” or get the hands to the ball before the club head. By that time, it’s too late and you’ve hit a push fade. People don’t realize that you need the club head to pass the hands into impact for the most speed to be delivered to the ball.
True to an extent but only with the driver. With most clubs if your club head is level with or past the hands you have early extension, which also loses you power for a number of reasons. Most clubs you want to be compressing the ball which means keeping hands ahead of the club head
not what early extension is@@joshfuchs5411
@@joshfuchs5411 Agreed! Irons should have more compressed hits causing back spin and elevation for softer landing. While driver and to some extent longer clubs want less back spin and more carry and roll for stock shots. To me, more lag is not necessary unless you don't have much. It just happens. That is for the average golfer who will most likely have problems trying to control direction if they try to add/hold lag.
Outstanding video. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, I never thought of it like this.
Thanks.
Can't wait to try when I hit he range tomorrow. Never Ever heard this. Picked up golf when I retired 8 yrs ago. Hacker to start but slowly improving. Used to slice constanly when swinging hard, but this winter in FLA started swinging left across my body. Working to correct that. Not a long distance hitter. At 65 would like driver to carry 140/150 in the air and also develop the technique for a smooth fairway swing to get ball up in the air instead of linedrives. Thanks!
Can't wait to set my cage up this weekend and start implementing ting this.
Thank you.
I had that thought process in my younger years, that probably why I was always complemented on my effortless smooth swing.. This 80 year old man would like to thank you for your tip..!!
Brilliant explanation Matt! Loving your videos!! Thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks I’ve been working on this and that drill will help.

Super Great advice here
Thanks brother man !
Great video...Once again
Thanks 👌
Best explanation ever! Thanks!
Glad you think so!
Really good Coach, really well explained, I'm definitely going to work on this.
Great to hear!
Nearing 60 this is a game changer for me. I’m actually hitting the ball further now than I ever have with half the swing. Thank you ❤
Thanks for that. I had a few days recently when I felt the sling effect and I got 25 yards longer with 7 iron. Then it went off again. However seeing your point about pushing off the front leg makes we realise that's what I don't do.! I'm pretty sure I've been pushing off my back leg and probably why I don't turn thru very easily... Cheers
good advise i will try this thank you
I've been working hard on path and face control for the past few weeks and I've just come off the range thinking it was now time to start working on developing more club head speed. Can't believe how timely this video is .... thanks Lockey!!
You got this! 👍👍
Never heard of it, very interesting indeed. Something to practice as I am at the range parking lot right now😊
LOL… I never thought sibling squabbling would come in so useful for golf, but point taken Coach! It sounds counter-intuitive, but in terms of physics it makes a world of sense to get that energy out to the end of the club. We do the same thing with hammering nails, throwing things, chopping trees, etc… It’s like the good ole “Heave…ho…”. Of course…golf clubs are a little harder to control at times. Love this though!
Awesome explanation of the feel and drill. Great vid 💪
Appreciate it!
Awesome TIP! Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
eureka
i get it. finally.
incredibly generous of him to share thanks
Wow... you knocked that "concept" out of the park for me, or should I say... All of my siblings are cowering in the corner restricted by a new flurry of towel whipping mania... seriously, I still haven't got the top of the swing and the club head transition synchronized with the left knee and foot pressing into the earth... since that's going to require more brain cells than I currently have... I'm going to have to watch more videos... thanks again. top shelf stuff!
Thanks coach I believe now I get it. Beautiful explanation and demonstration.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! At one time I knew this stuff, but my intent has wavered and lost sight of these basics. I had immediate results by shifting my intent to the advice you presented in this video. The extra snap/speed certainly helped, but the lead leg push had the direct result of squaring the club face, improved compression and low point control. All that came free. Tks for bringing me back to a key and simple fundamental.
Awesome. I’m glad I could help and massive thanks for the gifts 👌👍
thanks for the tip!
No problem!
This video helped me immensly. I've always swung hard with my arms, but since watching this my feel has been to swing with the handle of the club and allow the head to whip through the ball. Not as good results with the irons as compared with the woods yet, but have increased driving speed by 4mph so far.
Good one Coach!
Glad you liked it!
Fantastic tip Best explanation of ground force Ive ever heard
Glad it was helpful!
Never seen a video like this before and I ve watched quite a few ! Been working on my rhythm and slowing my swing down and this has put a lot of things in perspective. It’s not all slow. Thankyou, Will work on this on the range. Just want consistent rhythm otherwise it’s great strike , poor strike.
I’ve just practiced this swing with a driver on a sibling instead of a towel. It works every time!
😂😂
@@CoachLockey How many siblings are left?
Brillant 👍
Very interesting....thank you for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love it
Interesting - i had a lesson recently where this approach was encouraged and this clip has helped explain some of the theory. Will take a while to embed though, i think.
great video.
That was brilliant. Very interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video coach ..I like slower hand speed..I find I am straighter and longer
great description
😮🤯 thank you bro!
Any time
I learned this recently and have had to adjust my club selection by 2 or more (if I used an 5 iron I know use a 7) it feels so good. If only they went straight
Game changing👌👌. Tried this out last night, worked so well with irons/hybrid. Ended up hitting some wild blocks with my driver though, Any idea why that might be?
Tried and tested at the Range this morning. Amazing! Hell of a lot more distance which Ive been struggling with for so long. Ive watched hundreds of these videos, for years and I can honestly say, Ive never heard anyone explain it like this.👍 Thanks Coach!
Great to hear! 🔥🔥
Ive just watch your vidio. I am off to play a round of golf now.I will try to do what you have suggested on the range first lets see how it goes.
Totally agree with benitez
lovely
It is basic Newtonian physics: action / reaction.
1) Hips accelerate dragging shoulder and pin lead arm around feet and gravity pulls arms and club down at 32ft/sec/sec.
2) Keeping trail foot grounded and shifting hips laterally creates resistance to hips turning more than 45° open. This is what slows the hands pinned to body by arms down at that point.
3) Club head mass reacts to hands slowing down but whipping down around hands. The more abruptly the hands slow down the faster the club will whip around the hands.
4) After this is triggered golfer must lift back foot to release hips to continue turning to prevent club head speeding past hands and clipping.
5) Side bending plays an important role here in changing shoulders relative to pelvis and the force vector of lead pulling the club. Club head mass wants to swing outside the ball, the mass of the lead arm made more vertical by the side bend pulls it back inside with the net effect being it tracks down the target longer and allows club to pull the arms straight.
6) Club whipping around hands after arms pulled straight helps pull club around back in finish. There is similar whipping around hands reaction in the backswing which generates force to lift arms and pull shoulders around hips if the golfer knows how to let the club mass fly and extend lead arm backwards long enough to react.
Nice video well explained. Enjoy your videos. When are you and Mark Crossfield going for a few jaunts on the course again?
Nice video, well explained - hand speed only been thought about due to GEARS and the stuff that AMG boys been talking about for years
Thanks Matt, definitely like to towel whip my siblings lol. And trying to use ground force more in my swing.
Been playing for years alway thought my hands were trying to be as fast at impact. I like your thoughts on it.
Very nice explanation of a concept not easy to explain. When considering the “Mcilroy drill”, how should we think about lag… that is supposed to be desirable? Thanks.
MONSTER of GOLF!!!
Very good 👍👏
Thank you very much
Finally understood ground force 👍
Would like to see you do this with an iron swing
What Foresight range are you using on your GCQuad?
Genius
Well discovered. A similar principle as the cracking of a rawhide whip where the handle travels slowly then stops and reverses direction...the tip then breaks the sound barrier. Research the principle of angular momentum.
The start phase of downswing is just for creating a torque to squeeze the leading leg/leading pelvis/leading waist/lower spine to be aligned to the right heel.
At the time when the club head moves against the target, club head speed is harmful
But we raise the club higher than the shoulder has other purposes, one is to backoff the upper arm to be aligned with the scapula to limit the moving of the upper arm. The other is to rotate the forearm (actually is a upper arm side deviation)to keep the 'radius bone' at higher position than the 'ulna bone. This will make the trailng elbow not extendable before the grip center comes into the torsor area.
Only when the grip center goes inside the torsor (the club shaft turns straight and club head starts to go forwad, the acceleration then because effective.
Because the arms should be aligned with the abdominal muscle then we can coordinate both arms and create a reasonable differential acceleration contribution of each parts of arms section.
As a general rule: the parts of arms more near to the grip should moved quicker and harder to drive the club head, so the effective acc. zone is between the the inner side of the legs that gear up the coordination.
Great video
Thanks!
Wow this makes so much sense
#subscribing
Great video coach. I will be putting this into play this morning and Saturday for the comp at Staddon Heights. Report to follow
Never works first time ,takes repetitive strikes before it becomes engrained .just my thought
Good luck!
My handicap has stuck, so I need something to get my driver to carry an extra 20. Although if I could chip........ Interesting video Coach , will give it a go at the range !
Extra 20 for any golfer would be gold 👌👌
Would this cause "pulling on it"/standing the shaft up?
I've always thought of having passive hands 🤔
When do you start cocking/hinging your wrist?
Is the iron swing the same as the driver in this aspect? I feel like I feel like I add speed to my iron swing, long irons in general, differently than I do my driver.
Would you call this angular momentum in the golf swing? thanks
There are a couple of holes at my course where it is easy to let a driver go. There are few occasions where I have used the fingers to whip through the ball rather than the arms if that makes any sense. When you do, this is such a massive difference in distance and power. I guess it does feel like the cracking of the towel analogy used here or is it something different? It’s a little bit confusing.
This is too much for me at the moment. Im sure it’s accurate but as a beginner I have enough trouble hitting a straight shot with good contact. I will keep it in mind for the future though. Many thanks.
Timing the sling through impact is one thing, but control of the follow through straight line past secondary impact and front divot while not flipping left spinning sideways is more difficult, for me.
Perhaps the body rotation needs breaks at posting and facing target as the lagrip slows to sling? 8:38
brilliant explanation Coach L 👏
I found this out and boom my golf swing transformed. Slow take away and slow delivery. More accuracy and distance. Throw the club!
He literally says don't do a slow take away....
As a general rule most golfers need to take it back faster, all golfers arent the same though, if taking it back slow still means you can accelerate and decelerate by the time you reach the top of your backswing its all good.
This makes a lot of sense.
Let’s go 👍
good stuff. I feel like i struggle w the slowdown into transition. I often feel like I "lose" the club at the top.
Try speeding up at the start like I mentioned 👍 hope it helps.
I will let you know how it goes. I understand it all but can I put it into practice? Thanks good video .
Hope it goes well 👍
Awesome lesson. I’ve noticed you and most other pros have what looks like a cupped lead wrist at address, particularly with a driver.
Is this so or is it just an optical illusion?
When it comes to the moment of strike Hogan and many teachers online say the lead wrist should be bowed, but your wrists still look cupped (at least on your practise swing). What do you say to that Coach?
Watch this....
th-cam.com/video/5fE4T8na9Pk/w-d-xo.html
Hi Coach Alan TGC great tip but with Irons doing this how do you stop hitting behind the ball?
Why would you hit fat?
What about someone who has a shortened back swing due to flexibility issues? My club goes about perpendicular maybe a little more than that at the top.
what device 0r apps would record this.. My swing caddie 3 get my swing but not hamds
