I have two of these cameras. And honestly I think they are wonderful; & I really love them both. The results are fabulous. So glad I bought two Sony Cybershot HX50V ... delighted :) Best cameras I have ever had.
Hello John, Thanks a lot for the reviews of the Sony camera's. You did a great job, especially when you are showing the results of the pictures taken by the camera's. Also nicely done by taking video's with the reviewed camera's. Keep up the good work.
Thanks John for a good review. I am seriously considering buying this camera, however I am being held back due to a number of negative comments regarding the lack of a built in viewfinder and it being difficult to see the screen in bright conditions ... did you find this an issue?
I didn't find it a huge issue. It does better than most in sunny conditions but you can always turn up the brightness of the LCD in the settings. There aren't that many point and shoot cameras within this price range that includes a viewfinder but at least with this camera you have the option of using an external viewfinder. Its just very expensive.
If you were trying for a zoomed close-up photo of that boat, would this camera's greater optical zoom create a better image than could an RX100 with it's larger sensor but smaller zoom? Thanks
John Sison Wow hold on I'm assuming uke5417 meant if you take two pics that are equally zoomed up to 30X, well then with the RX100 you would have to use the digital zoom to get that close because it has a 3.6X one, and still the image would be better than using an HX50V?
Great reviews, thanks! do you happen to know if this Sony DSC-HX50 has "live" video feed, I meant can you watch live video via the HDMI connection on external monitor while recording the video or taking photo please? Or do you know any other Compact cameras has this option? Cheers
Great review! I am debating between this, the WX350 and Panasonic ZS40. I think this one is the best based on all the factors I'm considering (good zoom, good image quality, inbuilt HDR, compact size, not too expensive), but would love to hear your opinion. Thanks!
You can control the shutter speed and aperture but it has limitations. For example you can only control the aperture from f3.5 to f8 and shutter speed can go as fast as 1/1600sec.
I'm looking for a compact camera and wondering if this take great pic at night. I've tried a lot of cameras, and also a system camera (I've tried a lot of settings but i don't get the right settings for night mode, so i'm looking for a easier one). I like sequence shooting, so even if a leave my Nikon D60 and go for a compact camera I want that. Do you still recommend this one? For 2 years ago I bought a compact camera, which was really bad crap. It record videos better than took photos. So now, I don't want to do the same mistake ^^
Hi John, I saw your couple of Video related to DSC HX 50V and DSC HX 300.... which one you chose to prefer for me. I need only a better quality image than Zoom. Also could you please tell is there for any special effects(features) in either of this cams like making the surroundings blur and highlighting the image? and also making everything black in the pic and showing only color for a particular object? Thanks in advance
Hi Kalyan. Apologies for the late reply. I would suggest going with the HX50V rather than the HX300 for image quality. There are a variety of picture effects such as selective color, miniature and sweep panorama. So those features you were looking for are featured in this camera.
Hi John, I'm in doubt whether to buy the Nikon S7000 or the older sony HX50 in the same price range now. I like that the S7000 is a lot smaller and lighter and care less for the increase in zoom of the HX50. However I was told in the store that the image quality of the HX50 is a lot better, does anybody have experience with that? I mainly want to use it on vacation to make better shots than my Samsung S4 phone that I use now. What do you suggest?
I know this camera can take an SDHC memory card. Would you know the largest GB that is recommended for it? Also, would it be better if it were a class 10 for video & pictures? Thanks.
GrammaGribble The largest it could take is a 128gb SD card although, I wouldn't really recommend it. I'd definitely recommend a class 10 or higher card.
The focus is pretty quick. As for macro shooting, it can go up to 5cm close to the subject and you can still have the blurry background if you wish with background defocus.
Nice I would like to get a Sony dsc hx60v which is an small upgrade to Sony dsc hx50v. Please give a good review of the Sony hx60v also. Does it have the manual focus ring or so to zoom in and out manually. What about the Lcd screen on both of them when outdoors in bright Sunlight ? Is it fine to notice the view in the LCD screen in such bright conditions ? Or it will be better to get a Sony EVF mountable on the hot shoe provided which is expensive. Is there any cheap or other affordable EVF that would fit in the hot shoe of the hx50v/ hx60v ?
Hi! Im going to a concert and Im looking for a pocket camera with a great zoom as I will be seating kind of far back. Would you recommend this one to take pictures and videos or are there any other camera out there that you can recommend ? To be exact at the location its at honda center in aneheim, LA. just so you know how huge that venue is. Thanks ! :)
hyukminxing kmblry To be honest, a lot of cameras will struggle if you're going to be far away, especially if it will be far away. Possibly the Panasonic FZ200 would be a good choice but it is big. Otherwise, this camera will do a decent job but don't expect it to give you the best quality. I hope that helps.
If you put it in intelligent auto the camera can do all the thinking for you but if you want to play around with the settings, you can change your ISO to a higher level for indoor settings as well as shutter speed and aperture. For outdoor shots, you can use the lowest ISO.
Hi, I have one question about Sony hx50 . When i picture some object close (not macro mode) picture isnt cristal clear why? Can you tell me what settings to use for better picture ? Thanks fro Alex
Are you shooting in intelligent auto? It also depends if you have zoomed in on the subject or not. If its not zoomed in at all the minimum focusing distance will be a lot closer than if it were zoomed in.
Aleksandar Danilovic Maybe shoot in the green auto mode or it might be in your settings. Its definitely much better than the HX9. Maybe try turning off all NR settings and set your resolution to its highest.
Thanks ! On Green Auto mode pictures are perfect ! I tried and on Shooter mode pictures are more detailed, Camera is really nice , i am satisfied . Best regards from Alex
Looking for a capable point n shoot bt within budget.can sony wx300 suffice or will upscaling to hx50v b worth it..bearing in mind I will nevr use the hot shoe slot of it..pls guide
If you don't mind missing out on that extra zoom the WX300 would be more than capable. Has plenty of the features seen in the HX50 but missing a few standout features like GPS and a hotshoe.
Thanks for those reviews. Can you please help me out of my dought over the HX50V and HX400V? I know they are two diferrent things al together (Compact vs DSCL) But pls help me out to choose the best in image and video
Hi John, I have been looking at getting a point and shoot camera. I was looking at the Sony DSC-HX50V. It sounds like you recommend the HX50V. I Have read a lot of reviews and have looked at other cameras that are similar. Is there anything I need to know more about the Sony HX50V before I make my choice?
If you just need it as a point and shoot camera, you honestly can't go wrong with this. There is a newer model called the HX60 which adds a few more features but other than that it still retains the same optical zoom.
Very good review. I was wondering if the pictures that you show are unaltered? And could u maybe say if they are/aren't in the future? Over all; great review!
I've been asking the same question lately. Apparently the HX300 is for people who need an enormous amount of zoom, like a sport photographer for example. But the HX50V is for normal people who don't need that much zoom, and 30X zoom is a sweet spot because it would be really handy when needed and the camera is still compact and pocket-friendly, unlike the HX200V which has the same zoom range (30X) but has a large body like the HX300. And BTW 50X zoom is not a big difference from 30X. Image quality is about the same on both, the same can be said for video shooting. The big difference is in features. The HX300 has 50X zoom, Electronic ViewFinder, tiltable screen, and a focus/zoom ring on the lens barrel (which I really, really love to have). The HX50V has a Multi-Interface Hotshoe, an EV Compensation dial, Wifi (really good for adjusting group shots or making TH-cam videos), GPS, better battery performance, and a SMALLER, LIGHTER BODY! I travel a lot and I can't imaging fitting the HX300 in an bag because it is wide and thick and long. So it's HX50V for me. Hope this helps :)
TheRedTech98 I just picked up the HX50 for the exact same reason. As I was searching I kept going back to lower level DSLRs and larger mirrorless cameras. However, as I pieced these together I basically ended up building a $1000 range price tag and a camera that would offer me more features I want in a camera, except two: portability and GPS tagging. The whole reason I was looking for a camera was for travel and backpacking trips, so imagine little carrying space and need for zoom (hiking, camping, canyoneering, etc). Simply, I found this HX50 to be the best compromise to a loss of features and manual control from a DSLR/higher end mirrorless/HX300 but a big increase in portability and capability for shooting in those places/times when a DSLR simply isn't practical. I shot with the HX200V for a while and enjoyed it for what it was, I am hoping this will be a smaller, lighter, improved version of that camera.
Just to clear things up, the HX300 is a SuperZoom camera, not a mirrorless camera. Mirrorless cameras basically have the same sensor size as DSLRs but without the mirror that flips up and down, thus named "Mirrorless". The sensor in DSLRs or Mirrorless cameras is four times the size of the sensor in the HX300 or the HX50. Hope this helps :)
Greetings friend John Sison, please could you tell me whether or hx60v hx50v Sony cybershot cameras can be configured SPANISH language ??? Much appreciate your attention, greetings from Venezuela.
Hello, I was wondering, some people say the lcd screen is terrible is sunny conditions or in highly light conditions at all. Is this true, or are those people exaggerating? Thanks!
It is a bit difficult but any LCD screen is difficult to see through in bright daylight. You can increase the brightness on the camera and you should be fine. Its not that bad.
John Sison Thanks for your quick reaction! Another question though, I read some people say that this camera has some noise when shooting with high ISO values. Now I don't know much about ISO values, but again is this like a real problem of is this a real problem only when you want the best of the best and are professional photographer? Thanks!
My Sony Cyber Shot DSC- HX50 has been acting strangely for a while, when I go to choose to delete something, for example, it flicks through the options as if it has a mind on it's own. I have just been putting up with it, but now it's telling me to re-insert the memory card C13.01. The card works in other cameras though. Any ideas what is the problem?
It could be an issue with the camera now. I would try to initialize the camera without the card inside to see if that works and also format the card but do it only after you take out all your photos and videos off of it.
is this capable of taking pictures on concerts? Some venues doesn't allow a dslr so I'm looking for a cam that may be able to take steady shots with a performer moving and with the lights changes all the time. Thanks so much!
Charmaine Tychico I'm thinking of either getting the a5000 or this camera that was reviewed. What has been your feeling on the a5000 and have you found it fairly easy to carry around given that the lense makes it unable to be pocketed?
A. Bhartia Yeah I would probably go with the a5000 if you were willing to give up the zoom that you get on the HX50. Its very light and easy to carry around. I just had the shoulder strap on the camera and it wasn't a burden at all.
Me to,don't get me wrong i think the A7s are super cameras, but for me the rx10 is the one for me,for what it can do .I already own the RX100 and know what a great camera that is.Looking forward to seeing what you think of it,keep up the good work mate
I make a lot of filming I was thinking this or a nikon 1 j3 for action shoots and video making I would add slow mo with Windows movie make live. Help???
John Sison could u explain how to get that gaussian blur background and focused foreground...the sony rx 100 does and i wanna know if this does as its in my price rane which is achieved by most dslrs
I have a good bit of camera equipment but am looking for a reasonably priced, good pocketable zoom for a Stones concert I'm going to. I' be in the "Golden Ring" so reasonably close. Would you recommend this camera for such events? BTW good review! Thanks.
Definitely, although the HX60 does improve on it a bit in regards to low light performance. Either way, they both the same amount of optical zoom which will be great if you want to get in real close.
Hi John. I just purchased the Sony RX100 III as my "little camera" to go with me (and my Canon 5DMIII) on a 1-year RTW photographic journey. BUT....I am hesitant to commit to the Sony, as I just don't think that this is the right camera to complete my travel "kit"... while it has RAVING reviews, the zoom is just not there, so before my 30 day return period runs out, I am now second guessing my choice.... and just today, I am beginning to look at the DSC-HX50V (my current "little camera" is the DSC-HX9V). As a travel photographer, I also like the geo-tagging function and the RX100 doesn't have this (but the HX50V does, right)? Do you think that the HX50V would be a good "little camera" to go along with my 5DMk3? I realize I can't get everything I want in a small camera, but I want to have a decent zoom, and theRX100III only goes to 70mm!! Thanks for your reviews. PS- I saw your note that we need to include a link to our google+ account. Not sure how to do this, (I accidentally have two!), but i'll just tag myself. Tawna Brown Tawna Brown
Tawna Brown Hehe looks like you've already linked your accounts. Regarding your question the HX50 is a good option to go with. You won't get the same quality as the RX100M3 but like you said the zoom isn't enough so the HX50/HX60 would be a good choice. Main differences between those two HX cameras is that the HX60 has better WiFi control and Sony's playmemories camera apps, a better processor so slightly better low light photos and that's about it so if you don't need those, you're best to save some money and grab the HX50.
Hi sorry to bother, I'm planning to go to Ny this summer and I need a new camera which could take great pictures on night time (Empire State and others buildings at night) and good videos, since I'm getting the camera with my own money, would you reccomend me this one? Or there is a better one at the same price? Pls answer me and sorry for my bad english x
I want to help to my friend so I checked youtube if HX50 has F menu button... Funny, first two videos which I checked (yours was the second one) don't show the entire back side of the camera at all.. somehow you managed to hide the right bottom corner of the back side through the entire video... same as the other video which I checked... Funny! :O
Nice review! Just a question, I'm not a photo person, but I'm looking for a camera for my girlfriend, nothing crazy, just a point and shoot I was looking at the RX100 (not the II or III, just the I) and this HX50V and was wondering which you would recommend?
Thank you! =.D The RX100 will give you a lot better quality in your images but the HX50 will give you more zoom. It really depends on which you prefer. To be honest, I would go with image quality.
This is the best travel zoom camera on the market. I did a lot of traveling with my HX9V. It is awesome for that purpose and the 1080 50p video is amazing for this small body. This line has the best stabilizers in this category! It is almost glidecam-like. I am going to exchange it for the RX100 though, cause high ISO is really bad on the HX-models, cause of the small sensor.
If you press the menu button it'll bring up a bunch of settings which you can scroll through. Navigate to a setting thats called image setting size and you would be able to change it from there.
John Sison Hi John, thank you so very much....I got it set now...I love this camera already. Thank you again for helping me. I subscribed :) @nedthetoothpik
John Sison Hi John, I love my camera, shot several hundred pics, one problem, You were nice enough to help me get started. :-) Ok, here is the issue, when the sun is bright the 3" view looks like a mirror. I can't see a thing. Is there a trick or something I can do to prevent that? Thank you in advance ,,, @nedthetoothpik
Tony Kaye Yep, its just the nature of any camera at the moment. It can't go longer than 29mins because it would be classified as a video camera and it would usually mean it would be more expensive.
Thanks again for getting back to me. I suppose I could stop then restart to create two 30ish minute videos? So far, I really like the remote smartphone feature.
Those two cameras are very different. The one that would be comparable to the HX50 is the SX280 but if you're comparing it to the 1100d the Canon would be better in terms of image quality. You won't be able to get the same amount of zoom though that is on the HX50.
k john. but is it possible to take pics and videos with background blur, in these two cameras hx50v and 1100d i dono what it calls,, focus or defocus i thought. all my need is blur for selected subjects in pics and videos. kindly suggest me....
I just bought one, minus battery, at a thrift store for 2 dollars. Best find of the year.(so far)
I have two of these cameras. And honestly I think they are wonderful; & I really love them both. The results are fabulous. So glad I bought two Sony Cybershot HX50V ... delighted :)
Best cameras I have ever had.
mine arrives tommorow!!! im so excited lol been watching videos and reviews instead of sleeping :D
kingmcbrian Lol me too 📷📸📷🤗😀
How is it?
Was the camera any good..
Definitely! I think its a really good camera that was overshadowed by the a7.
I'm still using this camera :D
N I C E ! ! ! ! 🔥
Me too!
Hello John,
Thanks a lot for the reviews of the Sony camera's.
You did a great job, especially when you are showing the results of the pictures taken by the camera's. Also nicely done by taking video's with the reviewed camera's.
Keep up the good work.
Great review. This looks like being top of the list for a camera to buy for a holiday to West Coast California for scenic shots mainly.
Here I am in 2023 looking for an affordable camera with a decent zoom to take to a concert and I think I found it! Thanks!
Thanks John for a good review. I am seriously considering buying this camera, however I am being held back due to a number of negative comments regarding the lack of a built in viewfinder and it being difficult to see the screen in bright conditions ... did you find this an issue?

Sometimes I like to take shots of the mountains while in a moving vehicle, will they still come out clear? I was using a nikon 1 j1 before.
I love my HX 50V and it's still a great compact camera in 2024.
Exceptional camera loaded with features to make amazing photos.
Hi. Can this camera do the fast motion video which looks like a timelaps. Thanks
If you were trying for a zoomed close-up photo of that boat, would this camera's greater optical zoom create a better image than could an RX100 with it's larger sensor but smaller zoom? Thanks
Hm no it wouldn't. The RX100 image would be better.
John Sison Wow hold on I'm assuming uke5417 meant if you take two pics that are equally zoomed up to 30X, well then with the RX100 you would have to use the digital zoom to get that close because it has a 3.6X one, and still the image would be better than using an HX50V?
In Australia, its $449. Not too sure about the other countries.
Great reviews, thanks! do you happen to know if this Sony DSC-HX50 has
"live" video feed, I meant can you watch live video via the HDMI
connection on external monitor while recording the video or taking
photo please?
Or do you know any other Compact cameras has this option? Cheers
Thanks for that. One more question. Since it can take the larger SD cards I take it I can use an SDXC card as well as the SDHC ones?
GrammaGribble Yes definitely.
Great review! I am debating between this, the WX350 and Panasonic ZS40. I think this one is the best based on all the factors I'm considering (good zoom, good image quality, inbuilt HDR, compact size, not too expensive), but would love to hear your opinion.
Thanks!
I would agree that this would be the best option for you! :)
All in all would you recommend this camera and would you say overall the video and photos are of great quality ?
I haven't played with it yet but I'll get a chance very soon :)
Have you tried it out already?
Thanks John for this video
I want to buy it and found all caracteristics in your video
I'm glad to hear that you found the video helpful! Thanks for your feedback! =.)
John i love taking low light photography and macro shoot does sony HX50v do the job ,can we we control shutter speed and aperture ?
You can control the shutter speed and aperture but it has limitations. For example you can only control the aperture from f3.5 to f8 and shutter speed can go as fast as 1/1600sec.

Good review, massive zoom. Does it have clear view zoom?
Thanks John. I was looking at this camera or the Lumix TZ40 or TZ60. Which would you recommend? Which takes a better photo?
Definitely the HX50.
Thanks! Yes it does.

I will have a review up soon. They have the exact same LCD. You can adjust the HX60's LCD to be brighter. No cheaper alternative to the EVF.
Hey, doesn't this take NP-BX1 batteries? Good compact for traveling?
It takes those batteries and is a good compact camera for travel. Very easy to use.
John Sison Thank you! Decided to buy and leaving to Costa Rica in a few hours with it! It is very good, and thanks for the helpful review!
nice video..what would you recommend. this or the panasonic lumix lf1?
The HX50. Its a good all rounder type of camera.
Hey mate 2 questions:
Did you film this with the HX50V?
And what editing software/rendering settings did you use?
Thanks!
I filmed a small portion of the video with the HX50. I used final cut pro to edit my videos.

John Sison, What setup do you use during the into and conclusion summation? Thanks!
I used the Sony a99 with a CZ 24-70mm f2.8 lens
Thank you!
What is the best settings for indoor party pictures and outdoor shoots?
If you put it in intelligent auto the camera can do all the thinking for you but if you want to play around with the settings, you can change your ISO to a higher level for indoor settings as well as shutter speed and aperture. For outdoor shots, you can use the lowest ISO.
How does it perform in an indoor club low light setting when set to around 800 to 1600 ISO?
You will lose a bit of detail and you will get some grain at those settings but for a compact camera, its not too bad.
Hi,
I have one question about Sony hx50 .

Thanks for those reviews.
Can you please help me out of my dought over the HX50V and HX400V?
I know they are two diferrent things al together (Compact vs DSCL)
But pls help me out to choose the best in image and video
I personally choose the camera based on size but the HX400 would be the better option in terms of video and photos though.

The photos are unaltered and straight out of the camera. Not a problem about the photos.
Thank you mate!
Hi,
I was thinking to buy this camera or the Nikon coolpix S9700. Which one would you reccomend and why?
To be honest, I haven't tried the S9700 so I couldn't give you a proper opinion on them.
Going to purchase either the HX50V or the HX300. Which do you think is the better camera? Is the image quality about the same on both? Thanks..
I've been asking the same question lately. Apparently the HX300 is for people who need an enormous amount of zoom, like a sport photographer for example. I just picked up the HX50 for the exact same reason.
Which do you think is the better camera the hx80 or the hx50 ?
Greetings friend John Sison, please could you tell me whether or hx60v hx50v Sony cybershot cameras can be configured SPANISH language ??? Much appreciate your attention, greetings from Venezuela.
angge estrada petriglia Greetings! My copy has Spanish but to be safe its best to check the camera first before purchasing.
Friend compact camera that you remember me? I have a Cybershot HX9V and it went very good, I want to buy a newer model but not as expensive.
angge estrada petriglia How about the WX350?
Thanks!
Jannick Hamberg All cameras will have noise when shooting at high ISO levels. For a compact camera its not bad compared to other models.
When taking photos of the moon what settings are the best on the Manual mode?
I would set the aperture to F8 since that's the minimum, set ISO to 100 and the aperture to possibly 1/125sec or faster.
John Sison Thank you
My Sony Cyber Shot DSC- HX50 has been acting strangely for a while, when I go to choose to delete something, for example, it flicks through the options as if it has a mind on it's own.
Thanks, I tried this but it did not solve the problem.
Are you going to edit your videos? If you want something simple its probably best to just film in MP4 at the highest setting at 10440x1080.
Have you played with the a7 yet? It feels great, a7r much nicer with metal everything
is this capable of taking pictures on concerts? Some venues doesn't allow a dslr so I'm looking for a cam that may be able to take steady shots with a performer moving and with the lights changes all the time. Thanks so much!
if you can recommend other cameras I will appreciate it a lot. Thanks!
Charmaine Tychico This camera should be allowed to be taken into a concert. Its not too big and the stabilisation works really well at full zoom.
that's cool! I just purchased a5000, thanks for your review. That will most probably work too right? Thanks! cheers!
Charmaine Tychico
I'm thinking of either getting the a5000 or this camera that was reviewed.
Hey im thinking of getting this camera. Is it any good for video and Pictures at concerts?? (:
Yeah its pretty decent for its size and the amount of zoom you're getting.
Hi! Can you tell me where I can buy this camera case?
eBay
Me to,don't get me wrong i think the A7s are super cameras, but for me the rx10 is the one for me,for what it can do .I already own the RX100 and know what a great camera that is.Looking forward to seeing what you think of it,keep up the good work mate
Is it fast or slow to focus when zooming half way or full range?
It will be a bit slower at halfway and even slower at full range.
how do you think the Canon G15 and the sony dsc-hx50v, which one will win? thanks
Very different cameras. The HX50 has more connectivity and features and has a longer zoom. I think the G15 will have better quality.
How much does it cost?
Is this camerangood for concerts
I make a lot of filming I was thinking this or a nikon 1 j3 for action shoots and video making I would add slow mo with Windows movie make live. Help???
The J3 would be better for low light but if you want more zoom the HX50 would be a good choice.
the sony hx50 also has background defocus right?
Correct! :)
this is what i wanted to ask...
John Sison could u explain how to get that gaussian blur background and focused foreground...the sony rx 100 does and i wanna know if this does as its in my price rane which is achieved by most dslrs
Yea
I have a good bit of camera equipment but am looking for a reasonably priced, good pocketable zoom for a Stones concert I'm going to. I' be in the "Golden Ring" so reasonably close. Would you recommend this camera for such events? BTW good review! Thanks.
Definitely, although the HX60 does improve on it a bit in regards to low light performance. Either way, they both the same amount of optical zoom which will be great if you want to get in real close.
John Sison Thanks for your response. Great review!
PS... I just saw you have a review on the HX60V...so maybe that is the one i should be looking at?
Tawna Brown Hehe looks like you've already linked your accounts. Regarding your question the HX50 is a good option to go with. You won't get the same quality as the RX100M3 but like you said the zoom isn't enough so the HX50/HX60 would be a good choice. Main differences between those two HX cameras is that the HX60 has better WiFi control and Sony's playmemories camera apps, a better processor so slightly better low light photos and that's about it so if you don't need those, you're best to save some money and grab the HX50.
Thank you! Much appreciated. (the HX50 is on a good sale right now.... I think I'll get that one). John Sison
Tawna Brown You're welcome! :)
No need to say sorry :) Its definitely a camera I would consider and recommend, especially for travel and good quality videos.
+John Sison Is this camera good att taking Concert photos/Videos?
Sound vice and in term of handling the light?
+Zebure 01 I would probably go with a camera like the RX100 series these days but you won't be able to get the same amount of zoom.
I want to help to my friend so I checked youtube if HX50 has F menu button... Funny, first two videos which I checked (yours was the second one) don't show the entire back side of the camera at all.. somehow you managed to hide the right bottom corner of the back side through the entire video... same as the other video which I checked... Funny! :O
Lol that's unlucky! Well there isn't an Fn button on this camera unfortunately.
Is it possible to attach Optical Viewfinder to it?
Yes it is. It is called the FDA-V1K.
this is great camera, I love to carry it around with me
Hi John, which one do your prefer HX50V or WX300? Thanks in advance. Your videos are very helpful. :)
No worries! I prefer the HX50V to be honest. Much easier to hold.
John Sison How about in picture quality? still HX50V?
How does the video quality compare to the RX100?
They both do well but in terms of video quality the RX100 edges out the HX50.
Nice review!
Just a question, I'm not a photo person, but I'm looking for a camera for my girlfriend, nothing crazy, just a point and shoot
I was looking at the RX100 (not the II or III, just the I) and this HX50V and was wondering which you would recommend?
Thank you! =.D The RX100 will give you a lot better quality in your images but the HX50 will give you more zoom. It really depends on which you prefer. To be honest, I would go with image quality.
John Sison Cool thanks a lot! Once again, really helpful review!
Where do I get the case for this camera?
Usually Sony stores have them in stock.
Image quality will be a lot better compared to the RX100 M2. Although, you are giving up a lot in terms of zoom.
I m confused between Nikon P520 and Sony HX50V.....Pls suggest..
Get the HX50.
Love the camera, however I can't figure out why I can't get the camera to take smaller pictures, they are all huge.
I need help :-)
If you press the menu button it'll bring up a bunch of settings which you can scroll through. Navigate to a setting thats called image setting size and you would be able to change it from there.
John Sison Hi John, thank you so very much....I got it set now...I love this camera already.
Thank you again for helping me. I subscribed :)
@nedthetoothpik
nedthetoothpick Glad to hear that it worked! And yay! Thank you! :)
Thank you in advance ,,,
@nedthetoothpik
nedthetoothpick Have you manually turned up the brightness on the camera?
What was the free apps again? Is it play memories???
Yep! Playmemories mobile.
Thank. But seems they don't have on IOS. Only on andoid.
What about the macro?
It can focus as close as 5cm
I would like to commend you for the interaction with your viewers.....VERY COOL.....Subbed
Thank you =.) I try to get back to everyone that has a question.
How long can this camera shoot video?
Its estimated to shoot for 29mins.
Even with a high GB card and plugged into wall? I'm hoping to record 50-60 mins at a time. Thx for your reply.
Tony Kaye Not a problem. Yeah you could do that. Its a handy feature to have.
HX300V or DSC-HX50 ?
Which does higher quality pictures and movies?
+4Everx HX50.
dat zoom! good video
I am 12 year's old and i need new camera. Is This a good choose for me
great camera, great review
Does the screen flip
Not on this model unfortunately.
is it 1080p
Yes it is 1080p Full HD.
THEREALDION
the videos are really good
is it good for you tube videos
Was it made in japan or china? Thanks
I think it was made in China.
Sony HX50V or Canon HS700, I want to buy someone tomorrow, help me. what is better?
Definitely the HX50V.
Do you think this or the A5000 is better
DJduzit d For image quality, the a5000 would be better but if you want more zoom the HX50 is the better option.
+John Sison If I want to have a camera to film (youtube videos, vlog and horseriding) which do you think is the best this or sony A5000?
which is the best camera sony dsc hx 50v or Canon EOS 1100d
Those two cameras are very different. The one that would be comparable to the HX50 is the SX280 but if you're comparing it to the 1100d the Canon would be better in terms of image quality. You won't be able to get the same amount of zoom though that is on the HX50.
k john. but is it possible to take pics and videos with background blur, in these two cameras hx50v and 1100d i dono what it calls,, focus or defocus i thought. all my need is blur for selected subjects in pics and videos. kindly suggest me....
Happy for ur quick reply
Ganesh KUMAR The 1100d can do it because it has a larger sensor. The HX50 can do it too but it would be done digitally in camera.
Thanks john
Exactly =.)
If only it had a built in EVF.
terrible in sunlight when trying to take a photo and if you buy a viewfinder it would cost an extra £300.00.....
Its way too much money for that viewfinder! Lucky the current models have one built in.
Which has better picture quality? Sony DSC-HX50V or Sony DSCH300B?
The HX50 has better picture quality.
The only bad thing about this camera is the absence of the battery indicator. It is insane.
