    Two other very interesting features. Has a totally silent shutter mode and a burst rate of 10fps. Travels well. I've had the camera for 3 months and have been very impressed.

    It nice to find a review which takes in most of the camera features and explains it in a mater of fact content. I have had the HX90V for 1 1/2 years and the HX50V for a year before that. It is a terrific camera and has features I am still learning to use. Be sure to keep the firmware up to date as Sony has made a number of enhancements. Perhaps in a different video you can go over the custom Fn settings and custom push buttons which really add a lot to speed and ease of access of this camera. I also think demonstrating the white balance with a grey card or the temperature K setting would assist people shooting in less then a sunny day. After doing this with mine, my pictures were much improved especially in a dark green forest.

    I just got my Mum to get a RX100. The range is limited but I think that faster lens and bigger sensor will offer better iq. Have you directly compared the two cameras?

    I was thinking of this camera as one candidate for an upcoming Canada-Alaska cruise at the end of this summer, but their is one design feature that negated my considering this camera. It is the popup EVF. It's a design that requires one to pop up EVF, then pull it back towards you every time you want to use it. Then, you need to reverse the process each time to tuck it away. I think that is a very poor design. For that reason, sorry Sony, this time I am thinking of Panasonic's offering, the TZ-70. (ZS50 I think for folks over in the U.S.). It has a fixed EVF as well as one would normally expect. I have the Alpha 6000 as well, but I want something that will give me zoom on the occasions I want to use zoom. Alternatively, I could consider the HX400V which does have a properly fixed EVF and provides even more zoom out to 1200mm.

    I'm on a budget and I'm genuinely unsure whether I would like this camera or not. I was considering the much older Lumix FZ70 or the FZ200, but at the same time, I've been fascinated by the Sony RX100s, so this, to me, might be the next best thing...

    Great video as always John - happy to see this vide was longer - you do such a nice job I often miss that some of the videos have not been longer and bit more detailed -
    I do have the HX50v and of course a must have but it could use some updates - so now I am happy to see the successor is thinner - and Yes EVF which is awesome - as EVF is so often needed on a sunny day - I rather have one that is not super good vs not having one at all - Also very very glad to see that the menu system is now the same as the rest - it was just stupid how they and one for DSLRs and then another for NEX and another for their small point and shoot cameras - So a real killer super zoom in a tiny package - just wish it recorded in RAW which I guess is my only drawback besides my Standard Complain about Sony cameras and that is No Touch LCD / Touch Shutter - Sony makes millions of devices with Touch LCD and the world uses Touch LCD - so why not on their cameras ?? - Panasonic does the best combo I think of Touch LCD / Touch Shutter but also buttons and Dials - Samsung has a great Touch system but not as well organized and often not enough dials and buttons -
    The A6000 and A7xx are doing better now with more buttons and better designed menu but Still No Touch LCD - I guess we will never see it on a Sony and of course never on a Fuji, i think it is against their religion :) So I think I will be upgrading my HX50v now

    I actually bought one today after watching your review just yesterday. I haven't played with the settings yet, but after trying out the default auto mode and the second auto mode, it does take descent pictures for sure. The video though, if you're looking for a good video shooting camera, look away.

    How good is the GPS?
    1) Does it record wrong GPS data instead of leaving it blank when no GPS signal available?
    2) How long does it take to locate GPS when it has just started up (outdoor in perfect condition)?
    3) Does the GPS work in less perfect condition, e.g. balcony, in small lanes etc?
    Thanks

    Hi @john sison, thanks for you're reviews!!!
    I want to buy a compact camera for wild life in Afrika. The camera therefor has to perform well in twilight/dusk. Now I can't choose between the Sony Cyber-shot HX60V and the HX90V. What's the asset to the HX90V? Is the image quality better in the dusk?

    We are thinking about buying a new compact camera (we have already a reflex one) and we have could see the features of the "Sony dschx90vb.ce3" in your video ;) But what do you think about the "Sony dscwx500b.ce3"? It seems there are not too much difference.
    Thank you!

      @SeguirViajandosv 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      By the way, can you make video lapse? Thanks.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the viewfinder, the GPS, the control ring on the lens. Those are the main differences. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like time lapse is available for both cameras. There isn't anything you can add to the camera to improved audio. You can record sound separately using an audio device and sync it later on in post but I think that it would be too much effort.

    Back in 2011 I bought the HX9 (before the Tsunami) and still today, I'm amazed with the portability and the quality, both still & video, of this camera.
    Since your instructive video (as ALL of them are) on this new HX90, I feel that I could profit on the lower price after a year on the market. Now, since I'm a declared camera hoarder, I want to know if the quality, especially on video, is going to upgrade. Because John, the quality of video on these little Cybershots equals and surpasses that of some cameras twice their price.
    Would you recommend this new HX90 to upgrade my video?
    Thanks for your valuable time.
    Keep that dog happy, please.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be better in terms of stills and videos, especially when it comes to low light compared to the HX9. The video side has a better codec which will mean better quality too! Definitely a good time to buy one if you're looking for an upgrade. And yes! I will keep that dog happy hehe.

    Can you zoom as you're recording video? And if so, is there 'noise' when you do so? The sony I have now (cybershot H55) has an annoying noise that drowns the sound as I zoom, therefore causes a dead silence in playback at that moment of zoom. My Sony prior to that didn't do that so i want to make sure I don't have that if I buy this one. The selling point for me is the viewfinder here :) Thank you!

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah you can zoom while recording. It has a very faint sound but you won't be able to hear it if you're in a place where there is a lot of ambient sound like the street.

    Great review John. I've been watching multiple camera reviews as i want to purchase a multipurpose camera under $600 AU. I'm currently deciding between the Sony HX90V, the Panasonic TZ70, the Panasonic GF7 and the Olympus E-PL7. I want something that is lightweight and purse friendly without requiring me to purchase extra lenses. Whatever camera i purchase, i'll be using it for casual photography, random shots out and about, taking pictures for my photo journal (of products and purchases) and the very odd vlog video. It's a bit hard to make a decision as i love the zoom in the compact but i'm not 100% sure if the image quality would meet the standards of a photo journal. Do you have any suggestions? I just want one camera that'll do it all. Thanks in advance.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stephanie O If you're looking for an all in one camera, the HX90 is definitely the one at the top of the lists of camera I would consider. The Panasonic TZ70 sits below it in my opinion.

    Please let me know your view which shall I buy ? If you have any other options in the price segment of $300-$400. may be if I missed cameras from brand like samsung, fujifilm, panasonic & nikon.

      +Harshal Kulkarni The G9X is probably the best option out of that bunch. Everything else I would suggest would be more expensive.

    Hi John,
    Awesome video! I just bought the camera and was wondering where can I see any a5100 tutorials regarding all its features? I am very new at this camera world experience and I know very little about it. So I am pretty much just trying to self learn this camera on my own.

      Albert Joshua Vallejo I don't have a video tutorial on that camera but I guess if you simply search Sony a5100 tutorial in Google there may be some tips and lessons how to use it. I can answer some basic questions on it if you have any.

    This review was really helpful, but I still have one question. Does the camera also shoot in RAW or does it only shoot in JPEG? I’d love to hear from you.

    Thanks for the review. In comparison to Sony A5000, which do you think is superior?

      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +artoflife X The A5000 would be the better camera in terms of quality and low light performance.

    Thanks for the great review John! I've got a Sony Nex 5t which I LOVE. But even though it has a quite handy size, when using my tele lens (Sony SEL 55-210) I need a bigger bag and it isn't that lightweight anymore. So I'm searching for another camera which should be very small but still with decent image quality and a good zoom range to take with me most of the time. The Sony DSC-HX90V sounds pretty suitable for travelling, concerts, etc when I can't or don't want to take my Nex 5t with me. What do you think? Would it also be your choice? And if so, would you buy the HX90V, the HX90 or the WX500? Thanks a lot in advance! x

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ReLa79 If it were me I would go with the HX90. The difference between the HX90 and the HX90V has GPS (V means it has GPS). If you need GPS go with the HX90V if not, just the HX90. I prefer having a viewfinder also.

    How do you compare this camera against the dsc HX60. The 60 seems simpler to use and I like the exposure dial. The 90 has the view finder and the selfie screen. What else is important?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tom Bass You have a different lens. The new model has a Zeiss lens and the older one had a G series lens. You also have a control ring on the lens to change settings too.

    Hi, thanks for the Review! I am thinking about buying the Sony DSC HX80V. But I can't decide between the Sony or the Canon Powershot G7X, what do you think?

    Hi John, i'm trying to compare the HX90V and the WX500. I'll looking to replace my old compact camera for casual photos with friends/on holidays etc and don't need any professional use out of it. Which would you recommend? Is the (£50 approx.) difference in price worth it for the HX90?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hannah M If you like the grip and think you are going to be using the built in viewfinder, then yes, I would say its worth it.

    Which would be better HX90V or RX100 II, I know that both are completely different. But I am looking for a new travel camera to take pictures of landscapes and portraits and more.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably lean more towards the RX100 II because low light performance and overall quality is better. The HX90 is still good but just not as good.

    Hi.. i want to ask about the shutter speed. I try light painting shot with this camera but I cant success with this camera. The shutter speed can't set slow even I try on Manual mode. It can set if we set ISO Auto [Multi Frame NR] and that's not good for light painting. Any idea for light painting with this camera? Thank you.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try shooting in S on the mode dial, set the exposure to however long you want it and dont use multi frame NR. Just use Auto ISO.

    • @UnBoxMyBox
      @UnBoxMyBox 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnSisonPhotography Thanks John, I have tried it but still same. The shutter speed still unable to set slow, it still at 1/4. It always able set slow or long when ISO set at Auto Multi Frame NR 😔

    Purchased this camera after watching ur video. Overall it's a good camera, but low-light videography really sucks. Do you have any suggestion for camera setting for low-light videography? Thank you.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If its low light, its tricky for any camera. What mode are you shooting in now? You can try and de noise the video in post but other than getting more lighting, its going to be tricky.

    Hey John. Video is informative. Thanks.
    What type of pointshoot would you suggest for lowlight/indoor photos and videos for may be like children and for food photography (not for professional use) kind of requirement. Telephoto is not required.
    Also, Can anyone suggest me out of your experience. Budget of around 350-400$ range.

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would probably suggest the RX100 series. Either the Mark I to Mark III. I think that should fit within your budget but it will be great for what you want.

    Would you recommend the HX90V for concerts or is the RX100 m1 since it takes better photos on low light? What about the zoom?

    • @JohnSisonPhotography
      @JohnSisonPhotography  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Wawldl BC There is a big difference in zoom. The RX100 is 3.6x vs 30x zoom on the HX90. In terms of low light performance the RX100 is a much better camera. I would probably recommend the RX100 more for its low light performance.
