I bought this 1 week after it was released in Australia as I wanted a street photography camera and my A99 was just not viable to carry around all the time. I love it, I carry this camera around with me everywhere.
You might think its weird but even today so many years after its release this camera is awesome, I bought one a couple of days ago for just 50 euro, its like brand new and came with extras and bag, im so happy with it! For that price im mega happy anyway as its a packed full of features of which I am still learning how to use lol It takes awesome pictures
Same, bought it in 2021 when going on holiday and meeting family there. Good buy. The only problem now is that my S23 Ultra renders it a bit useless. But hey, it's still a good camera with great battery life. Plus it only costed me £150! (at T5 in Manchester Airport)
Hi, I have bought Sony Camera (HX60V) for the first time. previously I owned 4 Panasonic TZ and 1 Canon sx240 I mainly use my camera for video shooting purpose. I like Sony. Zooming is good smooth and noiseless compare to canon sx240 and sx700. Also good in sound recording such as concert with blasting sound but canon was bad. Panasonic was good too but it had auto-focussing issued as it gave blurring for a second or two during zooming. I am happy with Sony and I am with it one week now. I have youtube channel joegoauk, most recent videos uploaded about 5 using the sony HX60V
i am confused between hx60v and dsc wx500..i will be doing travel videos..i want to know which one will be better in low light conditions?? focusing is better in which one?? image and video quality is better in which one?? as i do a lot of onboard videos in trains..so it will be best to have a camera which will take smooth videos..with good frames per second..the zooming in and zooming out of dsc wx500 is very fast..is it the same in hx60v too?? please tell me which one should i buy?? you can also refer me cameras of other brands within this range, if that is better..please help me out
Here's a question, what camera is better at doing its job, the Canon powershot SX700 or the Sony DSC-HX60V? For what I want from them is to have decent image quality, decent battery life, able to take pictures within a second upon startup, relatively easy to use, firm grip, decent video quality, fast autofocus and useful features. What would you recommend?
John is it true the old hx20v is better for using video at concerts than the hx60v? On my channel I have plenty of concerts shot on the hx20v. They look great. I read somewhere that the hx60v doesn't focus as well in low light video. Thoughts??
+TheAdventurousVlogger p.s....i am a travel vlogger so will be using this nearly all the time just for video footage,Will it be up to the job? thank you
Love this camera! very good photos in natural lighting and takes great shots of the sky, moon etc.. takes a little while to figure out the settings. can't seem to adjust my ISO settings at the moment.. lol user error I'm darn sure..
Sounds like a good camera, what is it like when filming lights and vibrant colours? Im a emergency vehicle photographer/videographer and I want to get a camera that has good video quality with realistic colors and lighting.
Its capable of taking good quality photos but if you want a camera that will step it up in terms of colours and also filming, I would look at the Sony RX100 series cameras.
could you recommend settings to have this camera on for nice photos - my photos are all very blurry and poor quality and I cannot seem to get the same quality pictures as the ones you have! Thank you
The video clip of the dog shows this camera's main weakness, it tends to overexpose bright areas and the exposure compensation dial doesn't seem to work in video mode. Please reply to this if you know a way around this problem or if they have fixed this on the later models ie 80v or 90v. On the plus side this camera has 5 axis image stabilisation which means much smoother videos than you will get from your phone as long as you keep the camera relatively steady to start with.
Hello! Ive had this camera for about a year now but havn't really had the chance to use it as much as id like, so it relatively new. i did want to see if you could help me with a question though. When taking a picture using the nob at the top of the camera ...there are two small icons....i (image of camera) and i(image of camera ) +......i normally use those to shoot...now, when i use the icon without the +....after i take a picture it says "recording" and saves 2 or + images and i dont know why and dont know how to take that recording feature off. Help?
+Eva Hm there are two auto modes. The gold auto mode may take between one to six photos and stitch them together depending on the scene. The green one will adjust camera settings to best suit the shooting conditions of the camera. If you're shooting in the green auto settings and its taking several photos there might be another setting that's turned on. If you head into the drive mode (the leftside of the wheel on the back of the camera) select 'Single Shooting'. That should fix the problem. I hope that's the issue. Let me know how you go.
John Sison OMG YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!! IT WORKED!! THANKS SO SO SOSOSOSOSOOSOSOSOSO MUCH! honestly ive been crying over this issue for a while now XD...thanks so much!!
So i recently picked up the a6000 with the 16-50 kit lens. I am considering wich lens i want as a replacement. So far i am considering the 18-200, or the zeiss 16-70. Both can be had for a similar price where i am from. I am guessing the zeiss lens produces better images, but i would also need a seperate zoom lens, like the cheaper 55-210. Any advice? Anyway, my thought was, i very rarely need an extreme zoom lens, but i was considering picking up this little camera as a supplement, for the rare occations where i need that much zoom, rather than investing in some extremely expensive zoom lens. It would not be for action shots, but rather for vacation photos, nature or wildlife (not fast wildlife, though, Denmark where i am from, doesnt really have that). Is it worth it? I am new to photography, if that has any bearing on your reply. I am a fast learner though, and i use every oppertunity to go out and shoot. Thanks for the video review, in fact it was the only proper video review i could find on this camera. :-)
Great video mate. I am a TH-camr myself and looking to get the HX60 ( so far have done around 100 videos all with my One M8 and it's been generally impressive ) to step things up. I am guessing the FULL HD recording is available at 60fps? Would you recommend this over the Samsung NX3000? Your valuable input will be much appreciated. Cheers
Hello fellow TH-camr! =.) The NX3000 is a more capable camera because you can switch your lenses and you also have the flip up LCD screen which can come in handy and depending on where you buy the HX60 from like the US it can do 60fps full hd recording. Not exactly sure about the NX3000 though.
Hi. I really need to choose between HX60 and RX100 fast. I am for the most part looking for the better video quality. Which one would be the better choice for videography? Any answer would be appreciated
That's a nice detailed review but you did not mention anything about its low light performance. Can you please share your advice about the camera's performance in low light conditions.
I know this is an old post but this camera suffers lots of noise in low light, which is a real shame, I took some pictures of the Manhattan Skyline at dusk from the Staten Island ferry, images where very shaky, but this camera comes into its own during daylight hours, and the zoom is simply breathtaking.
It definitely works with the HX60V. It may not work on the HX50V because you need the smart remote control app from the playmemories store but I haven't tried it.
I love this camera! The only thing is that I cannot find it on the US website for sony. I'd like to know which retailer I can purchase it from, and a possible reason why it is not listed. Also, any EVFs you have to recommend?
Great review. I just got thie camera cheaply. When I go to select the AF Continous mode, its greyed out so I cant select this setting. I can select the AF_S, AF semi-manual and AF manual/ Why is that so? Do you have this problem? I have tried all the different shooting mode , still cant select the AF-C.
I didn't have that problem. It could be maybe cause of one particular setting really. Are you just shooting in iAuto? Maybe try shooting in Program mode.
No, it wont work in all mode. I found out in the manual, the AF-C cannot be set in any modes and movie at all, actually Its a default setting in movie mode only. So much for the AF-C mode ,it cannot be set in any modes. Why Sony want to put in the camera?
Hi, just brought this hx60v, but having testing I could not find the pause function when recording videos, a bit silly of sony to forget the pause functions. Any help please? Thanks
I'm looking for a good Camera for Gigs and concerts (as they dont allow big DSLR's or detatchable lens cameras in) and i was turned on to this. Is this going to be any good for Concerts? 9/10 im towards the front so wont need massive zoom, but i will need a quick auto focus in changeable light conditions.... I was told this might be able to do the job.
actually i`m a little bit confused between the HX300 and HX50 i can`t understand the difference between them exactly . and for me i will use the camera for videos as main and for capturing photos as an assist, i also care about the quality of voice and if i can fix an external mike
Great videos man! I have a question though. My old camera HX9V broke so I'm looking for a new one. I'm Looking at this one (HX60V) and RX100 (1st edition). Which one do you think is the best camera if I want to step up my game of photography if you compare picture quality, not the features?
If flash setting is set to "Auto flash". Will the flash pop-up by itself if needed ? Or do you manually have to remember to pop it up? I am planning on buying one for my parents but if it does not automatically pop the flash up, it is a no go for them!
hi which is better a nex-6 or the hx60v? one has interchangeable lens and a tiltable flash advantage.....but as for autofocus speed which is faster? thinking of a camera to use for underwater pics
What's the best megazoom pocket friendly camera? Sony HX60v or Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 or Cannon SX700 HS? Some key major features i look for other than the 30x zoom, is obviously image quality and low light performance and faster focus. Please help. Thanks
better than tz40 . miss slo-mo video but gain hotshoe , firework mode, and 30x zoom. video mode zoom focuses quicker. pics lots better. apps like timelapse etc are avail. sony wins easy for me.
Good Day, I want to use the Sony DSC-HX60 Digital camera as document camera (Visualizer, Representer) 1- As I understood, the camera can be connected directly to TV or projector (1920*1080), right? 2- I want to stream A4 page using a projector. Could you tell me if small letters are clearly appeared? 3- Is it possible to hide all additional information items like battery status, time, some lines… ? 4- Can the camera work without a battery? Only with normal current from a plug? As the camera will be used for more than 3-4 hours to stream the books and other things Thanks and regards, Usama Imam
Hi there! 1. It can be connected via HDMI but the HDMI cable is sold separately. 2. I'm not too sure. Sorry! 3. Yes it is. You just need to press the Display button to change that. 4. The camera requires a battery to be used.
Some apps require payment like time lapse but its best to take a look at Sony's playmemories apps website to take a look which is compatible with the camera. Its still a decent option for a digital camera and can be found for very cheap prices now.
Hi John, Could you please tell me if all the software can be used on a Apple Mac computer..I heard someone say that they had difficulty with uploading to there mac computer.. I love this camera(DSC-HX60V.)and hope to buy one this week but just need little info.. Many thanks Yvonne
Yeah it definitely works. I personally use an apple computer (macbook pro). I would suggest getting Sony's playmemories program (this is free btw) though because I know a few programs that would have trouble with the AVCHD file format so you may need to convert it.
Hi i use a Nikon d300s for weddings would this be goos as a back up and also my partner to use and take shots of guests would the quality be good enough to print in an album thanks
It would be a good camera but I would suggest taking a look at the RX100 for better quality photos. Its still a point and shoot camera and its very easy to use as well. The main thing that it would be lacking is the 30x optical zoom of the HX60 whereas the RX100 has 3.8x optical zoom.
Hi, do you think it´s a good camera for food photography? I´m just a beginner so I don´t really want to buy smth very difficult and expensive. Thank you!
Hmm how about going into the mode dial and switching to video mode. While in that mode, press the "Fn" button on the back of the camera and changing the camera from AF to MF. Does that work? I would probably shoot in a different movie mode instead of "Auto" though.
Not much to be honest. The HX60v has better Wifi integration, playmemories apps and a bionz X processor which gives you better low light performance. Those are the main differences from the top of my head.
***** I'd definitely go with the HX60. While it does lose out on the extra zoom, you've got a lot more room for potential extra features through the playmemories app and video quality is top notch.
got it today holy sh*t a beast of a camera it has tons of features i'm glad i didn't get the dmc lz40 eventhough it has a 42 times zoom it only has a small 14 mp sesor and from what i've seen the pictures has lot's of noice so that might be the reason for the discount of allmost 150$ but thanks for the answer :-)
Hi, I have just bought the HX60V, primarily for my wife's travel. Is there any guidance or recommendations re the camera settings eg ISO, focus area, focus mode, metering mode? Do I need to, and can I, format the memory card? Many thanks
If you press the ? button on the bottom right hand corner of the camera it would help you with what the function does and there are also settings recommendation in the camera too. You don't necessarily need to format the card but if you wanted to clear all the memory from your card you could format it in the camera.
+Elizabeth Quintero The battery is included and all you the accessories you need to charge the battery is included too. It just doesn't have an external charger included in the box, you need to charge the battery in camera.
Greetings friend John Sison, please could you tell me whether or hx60v hx50v Sony cybershot cameras can be configured SPANISH language ??? Much appreciate your attention, greetings from Venezuela.
To be honest I'm not too sure because I don't have that camera with me anymore but if you set the camera to movie mode and change the camera to A in the quick menu, you should be able to fix the aperture during video but if you zoom in or anything, the aperture will automatically change because the lens has a variable aperture and it will be different at different focal lengths.
got this camera this weekend ..like it so far .........but I wish they would include or have a full instruction booklet to download ......... does anyone else think the same ?
I rang sony asking a few questions and they gave me this great web link. I found it very useful. aportal.sony-asia.com/learn/articles hope this helps you too.
Hi John, Great review and very informative! Thank you. You mentioned the hot shoe can be used for a digital viewfinder. I’ve googled it but don’t know what I am looking for regarding which digital viewfinder to choose. Can you help?
How does one manually adjust the aperture and/or shutter speed whilst in 'Manual Exposure' mode. For me this is NOT possible. All the product manual vaguely suggests is to press down on the lowest part of the 'Control Ring' to highlight the Aperture & Shutter Speed values, which I'm able to do, but I can't then select them to make the necessary changes. They're both permanently set to '1/20' and 'f3.5' whereas I want a manual setting of 1/1600 and f.8.0. If I do push enter, in the middle of the control ring, after highlighting aperture or shutter speed, I get this thing called 'Object Setting' which informs me 'Tracks nearest subject to screen, center in o' What the hell is this and where did this come from? This is killing me trying to work out whats going wrong.
That's strange you should be able to do it when you're in manual mode. If you push down on the control wheel you should be able to change the settings when turning the wheel. Maybe try to initialize the camera if it doesn't work. Hopefully that solves the issue.
John Sison When i press it nothing happens, i tried on AVC HD 50i and 50p mode. Even Updated to the latest 2.1 firmware. Can you tell me on which video mode you managed to take pictures. Thanks
The Nikon D3300 is a much more advanced camera where you can change lenses and it has a much larger sensor so its going to better in low light and overall image quality. The HX60 has the advantage of being smaller with a long zoom. You would probably never get that sort of range with the D3300 and if you ever could, it would be a very heavy lens.
+Naren Rocking Machan “NRM” Vevo For this particular camera or what I did to make the video? I shot in AVCHD at 25p and used final cut pro x to edit the video.
John Sison cool thanks for the info bro i was just confused with the setting that you might had used, and all the best for your future reviews mate, cheers! :D
Great video, I have just bought this camera, didn't know about the apps so thankyou for letting me know that. Enjoying getting to know all the nifty features. I zoomed in on the moon when it was out during the day and took a pic. You can see the craters. The zoom is outstanding. You have to change the video setting to MP4 if you want to be able to transfer to your mobile device. Other than that it's pretty simple to use.
Hey there John, Gr8 review! When I log into FB there's just a page of text essentially saying I've logged in. Any idea what I'm doing wrong with this please?
The max recording limit is rated for 29mins. I would recommend it but if you need to record for longer, a video camera would be the better option for you then.
Just bought this camera and I ma really pleased with it but how can I shoot moving vehicles without getting a speed blur. I am in my 70's so a simple answer would be preferred with out any technical jargon
I visited Sony showroom they said they are discontinuing HX60V for HX90V, I saw your videos on that too, but i did some further research and now I have a confusion whether to buy HX90V or RX100M2. I dont know whether to sacrifice optical zoom of HX90V for better sensor of RX100M2 or vice-versa. What's your take on this? Does video quality with 1/2.3 sensor size is too inferior?
+Karthik C I would go for the better sensor. I don't use the whole zoom range anyway but the quality and low light performance would be much better with the RX100M2.
any comment on how this one compares with the Canon powershot SX 700 HS... which my kids tell me better photos.. but I like the panorama option of the Sony. glad of advice, as my 3.5 year old Panasonic Lumix has collapsed! thanks for this
I haven't compared the two cameras so I can't give you a proper advice on it but for travel cameras, the best ones are from Panasonic and Sony because they are well featured and offer good value for money. Image quality is actually one of the best.
Great video. Can u suggest which mic can be bought for this particular camera. I had purchased this camera 2.5 years ago when it was new in india. looking for a mic hat can be attached, should be v.good in quality and not very expensive as well. Thanks
HI, I have the DSC HX 30V & have been more than impressed with it. My daughter bought the DSC HX 60V as a gift for me to upgrade. But when I used it I found that the zoom was no where near as good. Strange as it has 10x more Optical zoom than the 30V. When zooming out at the same spot with both cameras side by side the 30V was clearer & zoomed out much further than the 60V. I rang Sony direct & they went through all the settings with me but still couldn't get it to zoom like the 30V. They then said that it is because the 30V has the clear image zoom which gives it further range & the 60V doesn't. Do you know anything about this? I am now looking at the DSC HX300 instead.
It should be better to be honest. As for the clear image zoom function, it is in the HX60 and can be found by pressing the menu and going to the cog looking tab and go to the second page of that tab and you will see an option called "Zoom setting". You can will be able to turn on clear image zoom from there.
John Sison Yeah, I know. She bought it for me as an upgrade just for the zoom range. But honestly, Sony were really good & went through all the settings with me, we tested it while on the phone, it would not zoom as far as the 30V & even though it wouldn't zoom as far the quality of picture was also not as good. I tested it on the moon as I take a lot of moon shots & I could not get it as close or the detail that the 30V does. We did go to settings & tried a few as well as clear image zoom & it still didn't manage the zoom of the 30V. The support guy on the phone went & spoke to someone higher than him & they told me it is simply because of the enhanced digital zoom, clear image zoom, it isn't the same as the 30V? That is all I know, & when you go to their website the specs are different between the two. I have returned the camera now, & am pretty disappointed. I've looked at the HX 300, it looks pretty impressive but it is bulkier. Thanks for your input, if you find anything else out about it or have more to add please do so. I might go look at them again today.
I bought this 1 week after it was released in Australia as I wanted a street photography camera and my A99 was just not viable to carry around all the time. I love it, I carry this camera around with me everywhere.

Best money I ever spent on a camera. Should be ideal for travelling.
not a bad travel camera. Pitty about the extra issues problem.
Ignoring the optical zoom, which is an obvious advantage, would you recommend this camera over a good smartphone camera?
Compared to today's high end smartphones? Probably not.
Love this camera! very good photos in natural lighting and takes great shots of the sky, moon etc.. takes a little while to figure out the settings. can't seem to adjust my ISO settings at the moment.. lol user error I'm darn sure..

John.. Does the camera's Side port, USB still the same with no external power? As That feature to me is important! Owner of the HX9V, and HX20V
It can only charge the camera whilst the camera is off and transfer images via the USB.
Thank you, Also did they free up, the movie mode to FULL manual controls, I know the answer be NO!

J TheAndroidFreak No worries and thank you! =.D I appreciate it
Hello Si, can you reccomend a mic i can uss directly with this without the need of voice syncing with the video? Please
+Amar Gao I would probably suggest the Sony ECM-XYST1M.

Hi, I wanted to ask, if it is possible to change/select your desired language to operate? In which section is possible to do that?
That would be in the toolbox section of the camera. It will also have a small icon with the letter A on it.
@@JohnSisonPhotography Thank you, John!
Can you adjust microphone volume level for video recordings? Does it handle loud concerts?
From memory, it doesn't have audio controls to adjust for different environments.

It definitely works with the HX60V. It may not work on the HX50V because you need the smart remote control app from the playmemories store but I haven't tried it.
ok, tks
I love this camera! The only thing is that I cannot find it on the US website for sony. I'd like to know which retailer I can purchase it from, and a possible reason why it is not listed. Also, any EVFs you have to recommend?
B&H Photo or Bestbuy I believe are the places to get camera gear from in the US. An EVF I would recommend is the FDA-EVM1K but its a bit pricey.
I started filming with my Sony Action Cam and I have a lot of views. I want to buy Sony a5000 or Sony DSC-HX60? Help me which is better. Thanks ☺
Hi, just brought this hx60v, but having testing I could not find the pause function when recording videos, a bit silly of sony to forget the pause functions.
Any help please?
Thanks
There isn't any pause function unfortunately.
Got a question. Does the previous model, HX50, shoot in MP4 as well? Thank you.
It shoots in MP4 as well.
Yeah its definitely capable of getting some good footage.
actually i`m a little bit confused between the HX300 and HX50 i can`t understand the difference between them exactly . and for me i will use the camera for videos as main and for capturing photos as an assist, i also care about the quality of voice and if i can fix an external mike
Hi John,
Do you have to manually put the flash up on this one as with the HX50?
Thanks
Carly Dutton Yep.
You have to manually pop it up.
I want to know If I can record with a external mic from Rode eben shooting videos....pls answer
Not with this camera. There is no external mic input with this camera.
hi which is better a nex-6 or the hx60v? one has interchangeable lens and a tiltable flash advantage.....but as for autofocus speed which is faster? thinking of a camera to use for underwater pics
The NEX-6 will give you better images but the HX60 has a lot more zoom. Autofocusing would be faster on the NEX-6.
Great review - is there a way to connect an external mic?
Thank you! You can mount it on the hot shoe BUT you will need Sony's own microphones like the ECM-XYST1M.
Good Day,
I want to use the Sony DSC-HX60 Digital camera as document camera (Visualizer, Representer)
1- As I understood, the camera can be connected directly to TV or projector (1920*1080), right?
2- I want to stream A4 page using a projector. Could you tell me if small letters are clearly appeared?
3- Is it possible to hide all additional information items like battery status, time, some lines… ?
4- Can the camera work without a battery? Only with normal current from a plug? As the camera will be used for more than 3-4 hours to stream the books and other things
Thanks and regards,
Usama Imam
Hi there!
1. It can be connected via HDMI but the HDMI cable is sold separately.
2. I'm not too sure. Sorry!
3. Yes it is. You just need to press the Display button to change that.
4. The camera requires a battery to be used.
please tell me who sells the flexible cable
Hello John.
Great review on the HX60V.
I have one question. Can you take a photo while maling a video?
Thanks,
Michael
It can take a photo whilst taking a video if that's what you mean.
John Sison how do you take a photo while taking a video?
Your reviews are definitely helpful Keep it up bro
what settings would you recommend taking wildlife/ safari? thank you!
+Lindsey Voong That's a difficult one. For me I would probably just use it in the green Auto mode to let the camera do all the thinking for me.
hello john, nice reviews..
what do you suggest between HX400V and HX60V. size is not a problem to me. all i need is IQ(specifically at low lights)
Hi , John ...Canon PowerShot SX700HS and Sony DSC-HX60V which one is better use in the concert?
I haven't tried the SX700HS but the HX60V is great for concerts and in low light conditions.
John Sison thanks your suggestion …………^^
does it cost to download apps ? like a time lapse and is this still a great option for a digital camera?
Some apps require payment like time lapse but its best to take a look at Sony's playmemories apps website to take a look which is compatible with the camera. Its still a decent option for a digital camera and can be found for very cheap prices now.
Hi John, Could you please tell me if all the software can be used on a Apple Mac computer..I heard someone say that they had difficulty with uploading to there mac computer.. I love this camera(DSC-HX60V.)and hope to buy one this week but just need little info.. Many thanks
Yvonne
Yeah it definitely works. I personally use an apple computer (macbook pro). I would suggest getting Sony's playmemories program (this is free btw) though because I know a few programs that would have trouble with the AVCHD file format so you may need to convert it.
John Sison Thank you for the info.. am definitely going to buy this camera. Cheers
The main thing that it would be lacking is the 30x optical zoom of the HX60 whereas the RX100 has 3.8x optical zoom.
hi!..thanks for your information....what about HD? in the camera? .Thank you.
It can shoot full HD but not HD at 720p.
what microphone could I use with this camera? any specific brand or make
+Adeel Gill You could use the Sony ECM-XYST1M.
Hi, do you think it´s a good camera for food photography? I´m just a beginner so I don´t really want to buy smth very difficult and expensive. Thank you!
Better get something with less zoom and a big sensor low light sensitivity, like a Sony RX100
I'm actually here because I'm trying to figure out how to turn off autofocus while filming on the subject camera, the DSC-HX60V. Any tips?
Hmm how about going into the mode dial and switching to video mode. While in that mode, press the "Fn" button on the back of the camera and changing the camera from AF to MF. Does that work? I would probably shoot in a different movie mode instead of "Auto" though.
Hi John, Just need to know which is better one to buy hx50v or hx60v? and what is the major difference between this. Thanks.
Not much to be honest. The HX60v has better Wifi integration, playmemories apps and a bionz X processor which gives you better low light performance. Those are the main differences from the top of my head.
thanks for video...
i want to know which is better camera
sony hx60v or canon sx700 HS
I haven't tried the SX700 HS so I can't give you a proper answer on that.
i can't decide if i should get this or the lumix DMC-LZ40
Hi! Great video, I want to buy this camera but want to know if the power battery source is included or I have to purchased separately. Thank you!
Is there a way to have fixed aperture while recording a video?
To be honest I'm not too sure because I don't have that camera with me anymore but if you set the camera to movie mode and change the camera to A in the quick menu, you should be able to fix the aperture during video but if you zoom in or anything, the aperture will automatically change because the lens has a variable aperture and it will be different at different focal lengths.
John Sison Thank you for the response!
Hello. Where to get a viewfinder for it? Thanks
Usually a Sony store or a camera store and get it in for you. This is the model number: FDA-EV1MK
Which memory card is best for shooting videos the sandisk ultra class 10(30mbps) or the sandisk extreme sdxc class 10(45mbps) memory card?
The ultra will suffice for shooting videos but the Sandisk extreme will be much quicker when transferring the data to a computer.
got this camera this weekend ..like it so far .........but I wish they would include or have a full instruction booklet to download .........
does anyone else think the same ?
Yeah it would be convenient. From memory if you connect the camera to your computer, there is a built in instruction manual that you can read.
I rang sony asking a few questions and they gave me this great web link. I found it very useful. aportal.sony-asia.com/learn/articles hope this helps you too.
Ra8chel Brilliant website!
Hi John what would you suggest...HX60 or Canon SX710?
Hi John,
Great review and very informative! Thank you. You mentioned the hot shoe can be used for a digital viewfinder. I’ve googled it but don’t know what I am looking for regarding which digital viewfinder to choose. Can you help?
Hi Rose-marie. The viewfinder model number is the FDA-EV1MK. That is the viewfinder that would be compatible with this camera.
John Sison Thank you for your reply 🥰
wow, the viewfinder costs more than the camera 🥺😞
Is there a cheaper alternative that you could help with?
How does one manually adjust the aperture and/or shutter speed whilst in 'Manual Exposure' mode.
For me this is NOT possible.
All the product manual vaguely suggests is to press down on the lowest part of the 'Control Ring' to highlight the Aperture & Shutter Speed values, which I'm able to do, but I can't then select them to make the necessary changes.
They're both permanently set to '1/20' and 'f3.5' whereas I want a manual setting of 1/1600 and f.8.0.
If I do push enter, in the middle of the control ring, after highlighting aperture or shutter speed, I get this thing called 'Object Setting' which informs me 'Tracks nearest subject to screen, center in o'
What the hell is this and where did this come from?
This is killing me trying to work out whats going wrong.
That's strange you should be able to do it when you're in manual mode. If you push down on the control wheel you should be able to change the settings when turning the wheel. Maybe try to initialize the camera if it doesn't work. Hopefully that solves the issue.
You explain things so a lay person can understand, thank you.
You are welcome! Glad to hear that it was helpful for you. 😊
What external microphone would u suggest to use with is camera
I would recommend the ECM-XYST1M.
Hello John, just got the new Sony HX60 , but can't figure out how to take pictures during video recording, I used it quite a lot on my HX9V. Thanks
All you need to do is press the shutter button whilst your recording a video.
John Sison When i press it nothing happens, i tried on AVC HD 50i and 50p mode. Even Updated to the latest 2.1 firmware. Can you tell me on which video mode you managed to take pictures. Thanks
kmitro John Sison same problem here
Hi John i am finding it hard to pick between the nikon d3300 and the sony hx60v i am a beginer at this and your feedback would be great many thanks!!
The Nikon D3300 is a much more advanced camera where you can change lenses and it has a much larger sensor so its going to better in low light and overall image quality. The HX60 has the advantage of being smaller with a long zoom. You would probably never get that sort of range with the D3300 and if you ever could, it would be a very heavy lens.
awesome review brother, but can i know what are the post process you did for the video?and what setting you recommend ;)
what camera would you recomend for best picture quality
kamis4189 That's a difficult one. The best for quality I would say is the Sony A7R and a high quality lens.
Looking for a small camera for street photography, how loud would you say the shutter is?
Its not that loud but from memory, I think you can turn off the shutter sound.
That's a pretty cool feature! Thanks I appreciate the feedback!
Great to hear that you're enjoying your camera. Have fun with it! =.)
Hey there John, Gr8 review! When I log into FB there's just a page of text essentially saying I've logged in. Any idea what I'm doing wrong with this please?
Can you speed up and slow down the shutter speed for motion photos?
Yes you can.
Would you recommend this camera for a concert, would the audio be good?
I got the prequel and its really good for concerts photography and recording videos.
hi man,,can you tell me please what is the max video recording limit?I want to use for speech do you think it is right idea?
The max recording limit is rated for 29mins. I would recommend it but if you need to record for longer, a video camera would be the better option for you then.
thanks man ,,i have bought the Panasonic v550 camcorder ,,really happy with it..any comment?
sam sailor I haven't really used that camera so I'm not too sure about it.
Hi, how is the efficiency in low light of this camera? I'm really interested in get one.
For a normal compact camera it does a very good job compared to its peers but don't expect it to be as good as a DSLR.
very thank you John!!! best regards!
I'm not sure if I should choose this one or the SONY CYBERSHOT DSC-HX400V. I'm going to use it while traveling. What would you recommend?
+Linsey Ket If you don't mind the extra weight and bulk, I would go with the HX400 but if you want something small and compact, the HX60.
+John Sison I don't mind at all if that one makes better pictures. Thank you!
Can I use this camera for photography and Videography... As a business?
no, if you are on a tight budget and want a small camera look at a second hand rx100.
can i take athletic pictures ( track and field events) with this camera without blur ? (for personal use)
+Vicky Ch Definitely, especially if its in good lighting conditions.
+John Sison Thank you !
+John Sison can you please tell me what Settings should i use?
Just bought this camera and I ma really pleased with it but how can I shoot moving vehicles without getting a speed blur. I am in my 70's so a simple answer would be preferred with out any technical jargon
I would say shooting in intelligent auto would be the best way if you're not already. There are no manual modes on it unfortunately.
Is it a good blogging camera?
Which one is better among Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX60V and Canon PowerShot SX710? Both looks same in terms if pixels and optical zoom?
+Karthik C I'd probably go with the HX60 out of those two.
OK, thanks for your suggestion.
what kind of stero mic i can use with tis? for filming
You could use Sony branded ones. The ECM-XYST1M is a good option to attach to this camera.
What is the maximum FPS in video, thanks,
+Suznet 555 60p if you buy the camera in a NTSC region or 50p if its PAL region.
HI John i have a question Sony-DSC HX60V OR Panasonic DMC-TZ70EP
TZ70 :)
any comment on how this one compares with the Canon powershot SX 700 HS... which my kids tell me better photos.. but I like the panorama option of the Sony. glad of advice, as my 3.5 year old Panasonic Lumix has collapsed! thanks for this
I haven't compared the two cameras so I can't give you a proper advice on it but for travel cameras, the best ones are from Panasonic and Sony because they are well featured and offer good value for money. Image quality is actually one of the best.
I am getting this camera tommorow!!! So excited. Quick question, can i control it though wifi instead of Nfc ?
+ΑDD Yep :) Enjoy your new camera.
Great video. Can u suggest which mic can be bought for this particular camera. I had purchased this camera 2.5 years ago when it was new in india. looking for a mic hat can be attached, should be v.good in quality and not very expensive as well. Thanks
I'd suggest the Sony ECM-XYST1M.
What's the highest fps video this can do? (Any slo mo)
From memory I think the highest it can go to was 50p which can be slowed down in post but its not exactly slow motion.
Is this the only camera in this series with a flip screen?
+sumeyaa 3 The HX60 does not have a flip screen. The HX90 and the WX500 have a flip screen.
Do that camera have a external microfoon input?
+-unlimited car channel - Nope.
Canon SX710 or Sony HX60 ? Thanks
