    For the first time ever on Dirt Trax Television, AJ and Luke go head-to-head in a 50-Inch Shootout involving the 2018 Can-Am Maverick Trail VS the 2018 Polaris RZR 900. To push these vehicles to their limits, the two brothers compete in a time trial and drag race, then to complete their full analysis, they check the turning radius and conduct straight forward trail riding to get the best impressions possible on these Side x Sides. Which vehicle will take the 50-Inch title?

    I have a 2016 Polaris RZR 900. The day I bought it, I hated the jerky takeoffs, simply drove me nuts but I got used to it, kind of.
    Fast forward to August 2018, clutch drive and drive bearing went out, noise was deafening, replaced both, and I swear, this thing drives better than it ever has.
    It's not only quieter, but it drives off like a car, smooth as a babies behind.
    Here's the thing, Polaris knew they made a bad clutch system, so when ordering a new one, they had a new part number, this means they canned the old one and the new one makes the machine one smooth runner.
    My buddy has the Canam, and yeah, his is comfortable, but when we hit the mountains, I'II blow him off the trails, because of one reason, the Polaris is an extension of the driver, his Canam never lets the driver really take control, like sliding for example, or the actual feel of the road/trail.
    Yeah, we both roll our machines more than we'd like to admit, but he rolls his as if it was meant to happen, and it's all because it refuses to break on corners like the RZR allows.

    I’ve had my Rzr-900 trail (2017) for almost a year now. 900 miles + it has taken me everywhere the “big boys” go and a few they can’t being that I’m narrower. I love my Rzr. Just did the back way to Crown King (110 miles total round trip) no problems except for a flat on my stock tires. I’ve already upgraded those! Yes, it’s tricky on the rocks, but being narrow, I can often “go around” or ride the rocks if I keep my eyes open... I’ve surprised a few of my buddies who have four seaters!

    Put 2 inch wheel spacers on that can am, when you aren’t restricted to 50 inch trails and it changes the ride yet again, so much more stable. Take them off when you are 50 restricted. That’s what I do. Awesome machine.

    I have had a 900 for three years and it's total junk from top to bottom. When it's rolling it's a lot of fun, but it is ridiculously expensive to maintain. I've had plenty of issues over my 3 years and 5500 Kms. Warranty covered the steering box, electric fan, wiring harness to the stator (it near burnt the machine), air box, and there is some thing else I'm forgetting. Steady replacing wheel bearings and bushings, can't keep an air filter in it, input shafts again, leaking seals on both differentials, and the accessories are garbage too. You would think that machine is being beat into the ground, but it's not. Also, there there has been several recalls. Do not buy if you are frugal.

    Bought the Wildcat Trail XT 50 inch in 2015. No problems. Gets to 110kmh pretty quickly. It has a true locking front diff (unlike either of these machines) and a very low range. The Fox shocks were easy to set up and they ride excellent. I did not like the stock tires too much so I changed them ($400). Its not the new Wildcat XX that is for sure but for this category it is the best by far in my opinion. Should have had a Wildcat trail in this comparison with your Dad driving (he would have kicked your butts! Ha ha!) Great video otherwise guys.

    So, the question is...did brp intentionally detune the 1000 for this application in hopes that folks would decide to go fullsize and get the extra 26 hp out of the motor...or did they say screw it, and design a restrictive intake and or exhaust just to hit a release date. Brp has "intentionally" detuned motors before. Example: A bone stock 1985 formula plus (521cc rotary intake inline twin) would absolutely destroy each and every year formula plus running the "same" motor. It would also hang with the early formula mach1's with the 583 and variable exhaust valves unless you were on a loooong field or a lake.
    Some food for thought.

    Only downside of the Can Am is the biggest upside they like about it, the longer wheelbase. Yes it gives a better ride but they all have plenty of suspension travel. More legroom for taller riders would definitely be needed though. But the long wheelbase on tight trails would be a hindrance I think. I guess it’s a minor problem that would seldom be noticed.

    I think the review is pretty clear. If you are an aggressive rider who puts performancet above all else the RZR gets the nod. If you value quality, comfort, extra options included and don’t drive like a maniac the Canam.gets the nod. I prefer the Canam in every way except the extra length. Although that is probably what gives the Canam more comfort. Still can’t decide although I am looking at the 60 inch versions of these two.

      Dirt Trax TV saying the can am is more comfy and the Polaris has better geometry and drivability, the Polaris has better throttle response, acceleration, handling, 4x4 engagement, better turning radius, but in the end the can am won because of the feel of the interior and some odds and ends. So Polaris is performance and comfort, can am is interior and Knick knacks.

It still had the little rubber things (don’t know what they’re called) on the tires. The first week I got it we went to Hatfield and McCoy’s. I put 300 miles on it in 4 days. It ran like a boss. Plenty of power. I took my buddy 1000s out while we were there and I didn’t think it was 3-4000 dollars better then mine. I’ve only put 500 total on it being I live in the northeast and got my sxs at the end of the season(October) but from what I know so far it’s awesome and I would get it again. Thanks for asking.

    Well I agree and understand exactly what they are saying here. I own a 2017 Polaris 1000S and a 2018 Maverick Trail 1000. My buddy has a 2017 Polaris 900 S and without a doubt the Polaris are faster like they say but ride ability, comfort and most everything else its the Canam hands down. On a real world trail ride, everyone and I mean every single one of us Polaris fans like the Canam best. We are lucky our dealer sells both and when they are side by side each other the Polaris is seriously out classed. Polaris used to win in the toy department as well but not anymore Canam closed that gap as well. Another area that Canam was just horrid about was servicing, oh my anyone who had serviced a Canam knows what I’m talking about. It was like they tried to make it almost impossible to do, but now, it is just super easy you really dont need a dealer to do it anymore. If i had to sell one the Polaris would go first. Even my 60 inch would be sold before the 50 inch Canam.

      @steveslootweg1952 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      But the point is the rzr is striped down so I'm thinking dirt trax is bias towards polaris and didnt want it to be beat by a first gen mav trail so they added some weight and wind drag ...probably beat it off camera then added accessories and filmed that ..

    • @ROTAXD
      @ROTAXD 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve Slootweg even with the extra weight on it, the can am was starting to reel the rzr in...I can all but gaurantee that's why they ran 750' instead of 1/4 mile. It has always seemed that dt has favored polaris in all (or at least most of) their tests.

    Hey guys, great channel, had a question I was hoping you could help me with because even the dealer doesn't seem 100% sure on this one. I got stuck in the snow this past weekend and when help arrived they said that while they puled me out only one of the back tires was spinning, and yes I was in 4 wheel drive. Is this normal or should I bring it in. Polaris General 2017 EPS Deluxe.

      happythe2 turf mode solenoid failed. Pretty common. They relocated them away from the exhaust on the 18's as apparently the heat was cooking them.

    Any opinions now that RZR has the 900 in a fox edition? Does this make the RZR the logical choice because of the fox suspension? Or any reason can am trail should win? I can’t decide which one of these to buy.

      Eric B may be more to it than just a reflash. Intake & exhaust routing may be very restrictive. May actually be smaller injectors too (because of the smaller fuel tank).

      Richard harris really? I would think the Wildcat Trail 700 at +60 horsepower should put to rest the 50 horsepower RZR 900. Wildcat Trail has super high reviews on Trailing and Crawling which should put to shame the Maverick too with its bulky longer wheelbase. 🙃

    • @gregrowe1168

      If you always ride on the ragged edge go with the Polaris. If all your doing is chasing numbers go with the Polaris. I chose the Maverick trail because of the seating position, it’s ride is smoother, less vibration coming through the chassis from the engine. Quality fit and finish seemed a couple notches higher also than the Polaris.

    I love your videos but if you're going to do a 50 inch shoot out especially between Polaris and Can-Am put them in the environment that they were designed to BE in which is 50 inch ATV trails that are extremely tight rough and technical I Live and ride in the mountains of B C and the Can-Am's extra 200 pounds in weight it's poor turning radius and it's four-wheel-drive system does not even compare to the Polaris True 4 Wheel Dr. system works awesome. Add a good day of riding for me is low range for the better part of the day.

      That's for sure. Polaris has great advertising, may be the best seller of ATV's BUT they are the most UNreliable machine out there. What do you think of when I say outboard motors? Mercury. Why, because Mercury advertises A LOT. Having a relative who is a marine mechanic, he says Mercs are the most unreliable outboard. There you have it. Advertising works.
