Thiiis. I main Karthus in the jungle and the best ults I can do are when I'm engaging baron and I spot the enemy team walking to contest it. Not only does it bring all the squishies to 50% health so they cannot fight at all (unless they use zhonyas or big peeling cooldowns), but it also grants me TONS of gold through the First Strike rune
@Solepsia dragons too. If they are planning a dragon just ult and they will usually stop. And you can do it as your team is trying to push inhib to get them to back off
I think it would’ve been better to group certain ults together so you can cover more champs. - Cait, Jhin, Cho, Karthus, and Xerath ults together as ults that can be used as both finishers and high-burst openers. - Alistar ult alongside other survival-buff ults like Nasus, Renekton, Volibear, Tryndamere, Aatrox, Trundle, and Jax should always be used above half HP when fighting multiple bursty enemies. It maximizes their defensive value while you put on offensive pressure. - Certain CC ults like Azir, Tristana, Nami, Poppy and so on are highly useful against enemy junglers looking to make their way into securing a neutral objective like Herald/Drake/Baron.
Using Trynd ult at half hp is troll tho, enemies can still drop it to the threhold and makes no difference between timing it at lowest hp possible or half hp
The Ultimate that 90% of players use wrong is probably Mordekaiser's. It is often very hard to decide who to ult, when to ult or if you want to ult at all. And at the end it probably doesn't even make a difference if all enemies are equally fed.

Please don't forget that Alistar's R is also a self purge. The amount of surprise engage you can get by walking into a mage control cc just to purge it and combo is something to be aware of.
the problem with people not using Shen ult correctly is often not that they didn't know when to ult, its that they didn't look at the map enough. as a Shen player, sometimes I could look away from the map for a few seconds to buy items or last hit some minions and in that span of time a completely unwarranted fight will occur and by the time you look at the map again the fight would already have been lost. its frustrating whenever it happens.
i dont even get how you are supposed to notice fight happening in lanes where 2 people are just in a neutral state against each other, expecially long range mages. they might just be fighting for their life and killing each other, but that stuff isnt noticable from the map at all.
@@MrVentches i dont mean not noticing, obviously you should take note of every fight happening in the map, i mean looking away for a short period of time to do something and then realising that that one second you spent looking away made you responsible for losing a fight happening on the other side of the map.

also have to pay attention to your wave as shen, sometimes tping to a sketchy play and losing top tower and coinflipping a fight isnt worth it. General rule of thumb is if your team is winning TP defensively to protect shutdowns and if your team is losing tp aggressively to make plays and catch up.
Nocturn's Ult: 1) You can channel Q while you're flying and release it just before you hit. This saves you the time of casting after your ult has landed. Also, people using R exclusively as an engage. It's often better to walk up to engage and use R as a gap closer.
It also applies to any long cd big effect ability from the game, you notice in lower elos players tend to greed the CD for a potential next optimal big montage play, while in higher elo players would trade a big cd for a simple advantage without any hesitation
Surprised to see xerath mentioned, just another important note on his ult. It's AOE! Think about opening a 5v5 with your ult and hitting 2-3 champs with every single shot, that alone could win the fight. Comboing off of other ults like maokai and amumu lockdowns guarantee hits as well, and the raw damage that's possible to put out can seriously impact the enemy team
I always got flamed in bronze-silver-gold when climbing to my plat in previous seasons for using Cait's ult on full HP squishies. I also really remembered one great case of it usage as it won me the game. Enemy had fed Kennen and i was kinda strong (not super fed but i had my spikes and i was ahead of enemy ADC) and it was in midgame when both team grouped mid for some reason. So when no enemy frontlane was near him to block it in midlane i just used Cait's R and he was too scared to lose 30-40% of his HP so he just uses his Zhonya to prevent being damaged. Until he was in stasis my team surrounded him and we won a fight, took baron and ended the game very soon
you often get flamed for using MF R to clear a wave or just to chunk enemies in the 2v2 whithout killing anyone. but if you have no chance of killing or objective before the cooldown, it's actually way better to use it this way.
The thing about shen ult, though, the shield is much bigger and maxes out when your target is under 1/3 hp. If used too early, a carry can be easily burst because the shield given is so negligible. It takes much more damage to burn your carry when they get a maxed shen shield.
I disagree, with how quick they get burst on it would make much more sense to get there earlier to interrupt the fight with taunt. I mean they literally showed a Shen R on someone with under 30% hp n they still died before the R completed

He only had lvl 1 ulti in the clip, the shield will not hold zed+fiddle damage on a 10hp carry but it will prevent yasuo from going down in the fiddle ulti. As shen main, I ulti on full hp target only when we can get number advantage on an important pick or in order to counter gank bot and take drake. Otherwise always hold the ulti to get max shield, in particular if the opponent already used the burst spells
i remember when i was playing vayne top (sorry...) enemie xerath was insta killing me with r every time he saw me, he was just spamming his r and before i even q'd i was already at 20% health, i was not able to move from spawn for like 5 minutes at the end
There are a lot more. Warwick : i see so many noobs miss their ult because they want to skillshot it from across the map... Sejuani : pretty much the same, and then there's the fact that, if you hit them, you can't stun them with your passive afterwards. Nunu : gets canceled every time after 0,5 sec. Teemo (oh my, the mushroom spamming in only one spot). Ekko... Sion... and it goes on and on.
People use poppy’s R wrong too. You can use it on herald when enemy uses it on your turret. You can knock herald away until your team can come to help save your turret
I've experienced many ally Kayles use their ults on me when I play something like Nautilus or Galio. They should just ult themselves or someone who has DPS.
Literally everyone who has ever played Xayah knows her ult is mainly for defensive use. I have never seen a Xayah who doesn't use it primarily defensively.
Imma be the devil advocate but... heimer couldn't use R Z in the first clip, his Z is on cd and he couldn't predict his varus was about to snip with R.
And I'll be the devils advocate for maokai. When he said that rift herald wasn't even low, when he resumed the footage it died in 2 seconds. So yes I think there was a rush. However, ultimately a better ult would have been favored even if enemy gets rift herald because a better ult could win them a team fight
The biggest problem for Shen R is not your usage but your teammates crying bc you did not use it. They already lost lane hard getting ganked you know if you R you will be dead too so you choose to better protect your mid laner who wins lane and then your adc is writing Top diff bc you did not R to them in a already lost fight

No dude, sometimes you have to use Poppy ult to clear the wave. The difference lied in those few seconds you lose when you wait for your Q to come back. I must say it depends but, on many occasions, just wipe out entire wave with your R
I will give you an example. When you are going top lane and the enemy top laner has stacked like 2 or 3 waves into your turret, setting up a perfect situation for a tower diving, and his jungler is coming from behind your turret. The only way you can survive that situation is clearing the entire wave before it hits the turret. If you let the minion in by waiting for your Q to come back, you are basically died.
this video is misleading and shows a lvl 16 poppy using max lvl R to clear big waves at 5 min in. The R doesn't one shot waves. I will almost never use it to push a big wave back unless I'm finessing a 1v2. The wave will just come back bigger.

As a Gnar main far too often when I'm not the one playing him in my games I see people hanging onto the ult for way to long trying to get the super flashy game ending 4-5 man scoop. In the late game, gnar has ult EVERY SINGLE TIME he transforms, so there is no reason at all not to use it every time you can to pick someone or even peel for your team
Just because you and your team don’t know how to use Maokai, doesn’t mean he’s bad. He’s a strong area controller, making it so that the enemies are always on the back foot when walking over towards objectives especially on choke points (they either give it up or fight with HP disadvantages bcoz of getting poked or picked apart by Mao’s team upon being rooted)

Most Morde’s ult to secure a kill. Whereas a really good morde will use it to peel an assassin or dive champ off their backline.

I love to use Xerath's ult to guide enemies into my team hidden into a bush, or just to slow them down (of dodging) when my team is chasing
