Great video. I might have missed something, so I appreciate your answers. Normally, do you have to replace, recondition, or just inspect and reuse the rods? Similar question regarding the camshaft, lifters, and pushrods. Are you able to reuse or is replacement a good idea. Thank you!
Hey, nice vid. Questions, does the 6.4 have bronze bushings on the piston end? I have heard no. I did not know if the new rebuild kits came with any bronze inserts ? Thank you,
Did you drop the engine onto the oil pan to get the flex plate on? Didn't hurt the pan? Just have to support the upper part of the oil pan for ballance?
I'm currently rebuilding a 6.4L. I've been told by several people that the 6.4l is the most expensive to rebuild. May I ask how much it would cost to do a full rebuild? Machining around here is $200-$1000, depending on the severity. I will assume that the cylinders will be needing a bore so a .20thousandths bore will most likely be the case. Could you price out how much that would cost with all the Rods, pistons, bearings, gaskets and seals, and I was also told that the fuel system lines will need to be replaced. is that true as well?
It all depends on what you want done to the motor and what the current prices of parts are. The high pressure fuel injection lines from the high pressure pump to the rail and from the rail to the injectors are torque to yield meaning they cannot be re-used
I know this is older, but quick question. After assembly you hooked up battery to starter to check oil flow. Did you completely fill engine with oil at that stage or just pour some in to get it in oil pickup tube?
Spec sheet is from AERA and most machine shops will print them off for you. It’s just a normal engine stand, you can buy them from Napa, Summit Racing or other places like that!
Can you clarify a bit on what all the machine shop did the engine? Did they bore out all the cylinders 20 over or just the one with the cracked Piston?
@@redneckcustoms5919 Well bolts are tty so they stretch especially with only 4 bolts per cylinder. Stock rebuild it's fine and I am guessing it's stock since using egr still. Either way why cut corners on a cheap part like studs? I have nightmares looking under the hood of a ford lol let alone pulling the cab again for a blown gasket. Small twins with head bolts :(
@@joshuaquilliam2887 Torque to yield means they are not reusable. 6.4 Powerstroke head bolts do not stretch unless the operator decides to be dumb and put a huge tune in it.
@@joshuaquilliam2887 Too bad head studs get over torqued and cause the blocks to crack, i have seen 2 this week with cracked blocks on the driver side at the rear of the block.
@@redneckcustoms5919 did you have the heads checked for cracking? When we rebuilt one of our 6.4L's we went thru 5 complete motors before one block was rebuildable. Every motor had at least one cracked head.
Negative. There is no timing or alignment for that pump. It simply pressurizes the fuel and the injectors are what time the delivery into the cylinder.
I’m 16 do you think i could take on building a 6.4 as long as I do research and know torque and clearance specs? Obviously there’s a lot more then that to build a 6.4 but i really want to try.

glad to see someone not mixing up the valve train bits.

Thankyou.
Great Content!
Nice job, very brave man rebuilding a 6.4 back to stock.
Keeps him in business lmao
Where can you find a spec sheet like that for the engine. Been looking every where and no luck.
i would be interested in one also ??
Dana Orourke I get the torque specs from my machine shop. There is also a pdf on google that lists the torque specs for every bolt on the engine
You did this with no help i got one with a 15” lift nobody can handle it. It still runs good
Correct
Did you put new bolts on the head block?

Very nice work! How much to rebuild mine??
All depends on what you want done to it
(Whispering) the hole orientation on the lifters doesnt matter👍
Did you not balance the rotating assembly with the new pistons?
The pistons are all balanced right from Mahle
I know this is older, but quick question. After assembly you hooked up battery to starter to check oil flow. Did you completely fill engine with oil at that stage or just pour some in to get it in oil pickup tube?
Just dump a jug and a half in the crankcase so it has enough oil to prime
How much it cost to rebuild this 6.4 power stroke motor ???
It all depends on what you want done to the motor
Did you have to balance your rotating assembly
No, it’s all factory components
Thanks bro
Two questions… Where did you get that spec sheet?? What type of stand is that?? Looking to rebuild my 6.0…

They bored all 8 cylinders. You would never want to bore just one cylinder, that would make everything out of balance.
