This video makes me feel so good, I’m no longer a 6.4 owner, it’s so nice watching someone else pump a small fortune into it and not me, I use to be the one wondering what next and how much will it cost and how am I going to pay for it, not to mention will I get home, oh the 6.4, what a motor.
Throughout this video I keep thinking this. Probably in excess of $20k being spent here and before another 50,000 miles there will be more major problems. Crazy.
I have never heard Dave be critical of the 6.4 in any of the videos like most seem to be. The 6.4 like any new diesel has it's known issues, but the original design can be altered just a bit and make them as reliable as any other and still be EPA compliant! Just add an injector to the exhaust and program it to do the fuel dump for Regen instead of washing out cylinders 7 and 8 and 90 of the known issues with this motor is being eliminated! Because the spun bearing is probably a result of diluted oil from the Regen process and lack of proper maintenance. Proper maintenance is usually of half of the problem with new diesels because they aren't like an old Detroit or old tractor that could run great on the crud in them. Besides Dave does warranty his work even on these 6.4's !
There is a company called "Powerstroke Help". He has a TH-cam video on why he will no longer work on these engines. I encourage anyone considering spending big money on a 6.4 watch it. Issues go much further than basic engine which is what Dave warrantees.

The only way to fix the engine is to delete. That engine will probably last as long as the transmission does. Most guys with the 6.4s just walk away from it. Not as much with the 6.0s but the 6.4 people almost give away cuz it’s a pile of garbage.
@@michaelbenoit248 They have other issues that a delete won't fix. For example, the cranks have poor quality control and they like to bend them into spec farther than what is considered safe.
@@louisschummer931 , new diesels after 2007 it should be changed every 3000 because of the amount of dirt that never leaves the engine and gets past the rings from the EGR, fuel from the regen is also diluted in the oil so that’s bad.

Dave you can judge a man by how he raised his son and your son is awesome I have watched you two interact in many videos. He's so lucky he gets to work with a loving father nothing beats that my friend you have been a great father that's obvious. And that's the most important measure of a man in my book. He will remember it all down the road and miss the hell out of you.
Man I can’t get enough of this Dave! I’m a boat technician and the 4 Cs apply to our field as well. It’s great to see how much you let your guys know you are proud of them and give them credit when it’s due! Dillon is a top notch tech!
Glad you enjoy it!
Looks like I need to ship my truck to Utah when it blows up. It’s nice to see a shop do right
This shop does top notch work. I wonder how much the final bill was ?? LOL
I cannot imagine how much capital goes into equipping a shop this big and complete. It takes real guts to pour so much of your hard earned cash and whatever you need from banks to come up with such an amazing place, hoping to get a return. Not to much the years of training to get to a place where guys like Joey are so instinctive and competent. It’s like an orchestra conductor making music using a few hundred musicians everything in its proper place at the right time.
You got yourself an awesome tech I remember him being new and you giving him a box the positivity you show your employees is what boosts your quality work your shop pumps out keep it up lovin the tips and solutions to issues
Wish we still got 6.4s in the shop they paid decent labor times, once in a blue moon I still get one and get all excited. It’s funny a lot of shops even dealers won’t touch them anymore.
Are they that problematic???
@gregorylyon1004 Yes. Wildly problematic. They are a horrible design and unfortunately, no amount of work done to then will ever make them reliable.
You sir are uneducated asf about them lmfao @dante04srt
I could have that thing apart in no time! It would probably take me 6 months to figure out where everything went back on! Your guys are amazing Dave!
Dave, the way you treat your team of Technicians is simply amazing. Watching you bring out the highest level of workmanship in every one of them, is exactly why your company has become the best of the best....I could only imagine what you could do as a Team Principle in F1. I'm thinking VCARB F1, you and Danny Ric would make a hilarious duo, and you'd be just a stones throw from Imola!!👍🏁
Oh yeah, now we are talking, F1!! 👏👏
Monaco this weekend.... here's to an exciting race at this historic venue!
Love all of your videos, especially the ones you post of your faith in God, and the charitable contributions you provide to those in need.
May God continue to bless you and your family, as well as your entire team at the shop! 🙏❤️🙏
Dave you have taught your guys well and i love how you help and check in with your guys.
One of my favorite parts of the day is going around the shop seeing what all the guys are working on 👍
Hello from Africa! Again what a tasty episode! For a recap, you got a new block and then got some donor parts from another engine that you did research on and fit into the original engine! It would be interesting if you could show us how you bolted the engine back and how you re-attach the cabin to the chassis!
Thanks for the feedback. Always looking to improve our videos
How does this man not have his own tv show on history channel or Discovery?? Id kill to work at a shop like this and have this kind of leadership/mentoring. Dave reminds me of my very first platoon Sgt. This guy knew his stuff backwards and forwards, but was quick to call you out for a mistake, but in a way you remembered and wouldn't make again.
11:58 Wow 🤩 that’s absolutely amazing how you guys take apart the engine from the truck I will watch a whole episode or video just to appreciate how amazing this process is…no wonder Dave’s is the best in the west !!!Saludos!!!👋😃👋
👋👍
@@DavesAutoCenterCenterville Saludos!!!👋😃👋
Oh my goodness, I’m an LTL truck driver and I just realized I delivered something to your shop!!! I wish I would’ve realized at the time.
Good to see vixen in the US, love your channel Dave, true experts, from the UK that truck is crazy and makes my classic mini look like a toy!
I love this channel. I don't even change my own oil and you guys might as well be doing brain surgery..... but I love there are people with mechanical knowledge that can look at an engine and know how it goes apart and know how it goes back together it is just fascinating to watch
Yet another top class episode Dave. You do the best jobs by employing the best staff, then keeping them fully motivated to do nothing but their very best work. You sure know how to run your business for the benefit of every one concerned.
Great to see you have a new Vixen cabinet, I first came across wet blasting back in 1980, what a truly great bit of kit they are.
Many thanks.
David in the UK.
This in my country would be classified as a Monster Truck!. It does not need gigantic tractor tires, just the fact that Dave was having problems trying to get in says a lot about the size of this thing!. What a beast!.
Near the end, Dave said "Drive it like you stole it!". Golden!!!. Great job Dave and crew. Your professionalism is the gold standard in the industry.
my country thinks your country is a little bitch for not allowing your people to do what they want
Sounds like you ain't ever seen a 4x4 on 42 inch tires, hell if you think that's big last I checked 54 inch tires were the largest production tires. Might be bigger by now
@@DocHolliday384158” Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS tires
It definitely needs oversize tires. Stock is boring .
Drive it like you stole it, that engines broke in before you get it ! That’s a builder who knows his stuff!
I currently own a 6.4 and the best thing you can do is burn it. They were an abortion from the start and I got screwed majorly from the dealer I bought it from. I've got about 12k invested into the motor and then the oil pump blew out on my way to work. I was the. Quoted another 8-9k to fix that and whatever else may be wrong. Now it's sitting in the grass rotting as it should be. If I lived in your area I may have had you guys work on it but it is what it is. You guys do amazing work and have a badass shop and crew
You can’t fix a 6.4….have to replace the entire engine with a crate motor and hope it will go another 175k..at best
I love the look of the 08-10 trucks I just can’t justify the damn 6.4 in em
That moss is ridiculously! I’ve seen moss on vehicles before but they’ve all been sitting a LONG time.
You can call the truck Mossy
Dillon is the PowerStroke(& diesel) man over there! Nice to have someone so knowledgeable in the field! Love everything you're doing there Dave! We need the SOA dimpled pistons along with total seal rings in all these diesel motors to see the drastic improvement they're going to make in the diesel community! I'd love to have a set in my old 275k+ mile '00 7.3 f250 someday when I rebuild it, after it dies someday(got another 200k+ to go atleast before that[could hppen]. I just put injectors in it last summer)! Diesel power forever! 💪🏻🛢️🚦🚜🚧⚡💥💨
07 lbz still going strong @278,000 miles …..glad I made a good choice back in the day
Im a simple man I see Daves upload I watch. Best channel on YT
You remind me of my mentor at my first tech job, could write mechanic encyclopedias from memory
great video. how you show the details and complexity of removing engine. and so many novest think its easy. the machines and equipment you have is awesome
Thank you very much!
The amount of components on these trucks blows my mind.
Drive it like you stole it. Heard that alot over the years. Can't wait for another duramax to roll in. Take care Dave and gang
Man, everything about Dave and his shop and guys, is so awesome to learn from.
Looks like you have an amazing job. You jump right in to help. I can only imagine the quality of your work.
Thank you very much!
Dude!!! You and your crew are awesome!!!!!!! Down here in Texas! With RESPECT!!!
I appreciate that
" Drive it like you stole it! " Thats enough confirmation for me!
Watching Dillon and Joey remove and tear down these engines is amazing.
Looking good Dave, I always use a couple of bolts with the head cut off as a dowel screwed into the block to align the engine and transmission, L10 Cummins, Detroit Diese 60 series D DECK 4,3.
Full engine swap in 2.5 days!?! Give this man a raise Dave!
Incredible!
Love watching you guys at work!
🫡🤜🫶🤛🫡
That truck looks just like mine,but I have a 6.0 litter & I will go to Dave’s & get it done right,great job ❤
Thanks 👍
His humbleness is just so inspiring
This mechanic deserves 3 days of work. And payed for 5 days.
Of book says 3 and he does it in less let him off if he wants it.
There was nothing wrong with that block throw it in your new fancy blater clean it up throw some oversized bearings in it some jbweled and run it down the strip for some 6 second passes lol!!!!!!! Love your videos you definitely know your stuff the engineers think you dont but thats normal its the mechanic that has to fix there shotty work!!!!!
Very interesting, I learned something new in every video. I love how Dave respects the people that work for him.
I Keep trying to get better at relationships - so important 👍
I just don't got tired of watching your videos! It's like a netflix show
excellent video as always. always wanted a 6.4, they are actually quite powerful if done right!
can’t say enough good things about those s&b body mounts. very good product. have a set on my 14 6.7 powerstroke and the difference is night and day. feels way more solid as well.
Like the great Bill Hewitt said 0:27 these trucks are basically throwaways with these engines I would just do a 6.0 swap
Yup. I watch all of his videos
I'm sure it's been said many times before on here , but they don't build them like they used to.
That's a damn brand new truck
these quys are amazing to know where every bolt and all the rest to go in the right place WOW.
Love all your content Dave!!! Keep up the good work
Thanks so much!
Gosh, that's impressive, worth every cent for that level of quality.
I would bet that 6.4 cost the trucks owner $18000 dollars. LOL
When you take pride in what you do the final product is always excellence
Yall do great work, I would really like to send my tuck to yall but I'm super far away in tenn. I got a 6.7 cummins. Head gasket jus blew on it. Amazing work as always men
Dave I’m binge watching your videos right now but I’ll tell you this your awesome man
You know what moss and 6.4 have in common? THEY CAN STICK AROUND BUT DIE REALLY QUICK.
These motors are boat anchors. Glad Ford made their own diesel and ditched Navistar after the 6.4 disaster.
I'm looking at the oil and thinking "you really should change it more often"
@@louisschummer931 , new diesels after 2007 it should be changed every 3000 because of the amount of dirt that never leaves the engine and gets past the rings from the EGR, fuel from the regen is also diluted in the oil so that’s bad.
Deleted they're great. They lack the torque management of the 6.7 trucks so you get full torque all the time. They're absolute rockets
Tradesmen are artists. So much experience they make it look easy.
Dave....you have some damn good people working for you ! ! ! ! ! !
Awesome team work , and side note ,kool wet blaster ! From East Texas .
Right on!
Getting old sucks... when the trucks keep getting taller. I saw a short, where someone had running boards that worked like an elevator. The truck was that high up.
I'm in Europe and we just don't see trucks like this here.
Most tradies here have pickups near half the size. Toyota, Isuzu, Volkswagen
No kidding
@@hayleyxyz it's a very American thing. Especially in Texas. For me it's just kind of overdone. I'll see guys with aftermarket wheels and tires with a factory spare. It's worse when it's lifted with aftermarket wheels and tires with a factory spare. Only thing worse is cheating out on a lift kit. Those are painful. I know a lot of people won't agree. But it's overdone. Most just do it for looks, not function.
@@86LukeM Yeah it does seem like cultural differences. I can get the aesthetics of a lifted truck, but I'd want it to be right and not compromise the rest of the vehicle. And of course that squatted truck fad..
I'm just a casual observer to this kinda stuff as I like the mechanics and engineering. Rainman Ray's channel got me into it
Go electric hoist like Ginger Billy.
