    Shocking Sheera can't empathize with the earth nation soldier. Iroh was literally a general in an army that was actively committing war crimes and a whole genocide. One of my biggest gripes with the original was that Iroh was never held accountable for his crimes. Even though he changed he should never have been able to live in peace (and prominence) in Ba Sing Se.

      That is one of the few things looking back on that I criticize Iroh on when he also tried to get Zuko to follow him in his thinking on just starting a new life in Ba Sing Se like as long as we're good with our new lives in starting over, let's not get involved with outside the walls of Ba Sing Se in making a difference to stop the Fire Nation's destructive path. It's just really odd like... so what if Aang and the gang never showed up would he have just not at all bring up for Zuko choosing good at joining the avatar to save the Fire Nation from itself in becoming the next Fire Lord or what? Like it's genuinely weird looking back for Iroh and it's like he only now decided to tell his nephew to because of the prospect that Azula tempted him with/due to Aang crossing paths with them again yet this time Zuko wasn't the one looking for him so it must be a sign. Again kinda want to know what his initial plan was as it just having them live out their lives in Ba Sing Se while the rest of the world burns when they could be making a difference seems very poor morally from Iroh in not adding up from what we've known of the guy and comes off selfish.

    Even though a lot of people liked the change in Bumi character, I felt that was one of the things I didn’t like at all, I understand that somebody who have gone through a 100 years war will change but one thing I found beautiful from the animated version was that even though Bumi went through a lot of things he never lost his childish and pure behavior but at the same time he was wise and patient. And I feel that the people blaming Aang is kind dumb because even if he had stayed he would have probably died with the others airbenders, he couldn’t have been able to fight all the firebenders and at the moment Aang just learned he was the avatar and couldn’t bend any other element, I don’t know how people expected Aang to do something back then.

    I think what Bumi was trying to get across is that for Aang to save the world, he has to grow up and stop thinking like a child. He has responsibilities now. Like the 2 boulders over their heads was meant to be a test of sacrifice. Do you save the people or do you save yourself? What Aang is showing is that he has a support system to help him make those decisions. He's had 2 adults tell him that he has to do it alone.

    • @jled787
      @jled787 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      The entire episode is themed around Sacrifice. Iroh who was busy with the Seige of Ba Sing Se neglected the safety of Lu Ten, so he had chosen to sacrifice his honor so he could honor his son instead. The Mechanist choosing to sacrifice his morals to ensure the safety of his son. Bumi's decisions to ensure the least amount of sacrifices are made to keep Omashu Safe. Shu's sacrifice that lead to Oma taking charge to force their villages into peace when they could have easily done so and prevented Shu's death in their war.

    • @thedarkemissary
      @thedarkemissary 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Sacrifice. Except that ISN'T who Aang is. That's why original Bumi taught Aang to believe in himself and open his mind to all the possibilities. Netflix Bumi is the opposite. Where Aang (10) has to teach Bumi (90) that he can count on his friends for support. They literally couldn't have gotten Bumi's character more wrong. And on purpose. Wild.

      @@thedarkemissary "They couldn't have gotten it more wrong" I seriously disagree. This is quite far from the original (Which for context I grew up with and adore with all my heart) but I don't have a problem with this darker take on Bumi. . I agree with where you're coming from, but so does this episode. That isn't who Aang is, ergo he proves that Bumi is wrong. It's very different from OG, but the through line between both Bumi's is their role as a friend from a lifetime ago who tries to prepare Aang for his role as the Avatar. Except instead of silly tasks to get Aang to think outside the box, it's an attempt to get Aang to treat this situation like a pragmatic adult who needs to make hard choices ("who gets the last of the food scraps"). But he whole point of this is that this Bumi is wrong to push Aang towards that, bc it's not bad that Aang thinks like a child. He believes all people have good in them and that no life is worth sacrificing regardless of the situation, and that is not something Aang should be reprimanded for. Again, that's why the three of them prove Bumi wrong in the end. It all works for me bc I buy the betrayal Bumi could feel towards Aang. It's not truly justified, but most people's emotions don't work logically. He feels like his closest friend, who he now knows was actually the fucking messiah, abandoned him to a century of pain and "impossible choices". Whether or not Aang wanted that doesn't really matter for Bumi, and I believe most people would still feel profoundly hurt by this situation regardless of the other's intentions. Plus, this entire setup ties in with the theme of 'where Aang goes, hope follows'
      Summary: It's very different but I think it works well in a live action adaptation

      @@jgs3823 I didn't expect it to be beat for beat to the cartoon. I just wanted the characters to remain the same and the event timeline to make sense.
      Why is the Mechanist even at Omashu? He should be up in the Northern Air Temple where it was built on a dormant volcano so it would make sense that Sai would work on his Air Ship design utilizing the natural air vents and hot springs.
      Condensing the 20 episode season into 8 works when it makes sense. Jet at Omashu? Ok I can see that happening. No Pirates and Waterbending Scroll shenanigans and The Great Divide? Sure those are just minor episodes and can easily be inserted anywhere. No Jeong Jeong? I hate it, but Aang doesn't need to learn Firebending this season.
      But to take away Roku's responsibility of guiding Aang during the Winter Solstice and give it to Kyoshi? Heck, they even had Kyoshi do the intro in episode 1 and treat Roku like he was air. Sure you could have Kyoshi save Kyoshi Island and to save time and story have her be the one to prophesize the fall of the Northern Water Tribe, but Aang's 1st meeting with his past lives shouldn't' have been this intense and traumatic for him. They even removed the Agni Kai between Zhao and Zuko, which was supposed to show us that Zuko is stronger than he looks.
      Secret Tunnel was supposed to be the start of the Kataang ship but they instead had the heart to heart between Katara and Sokka. And like I mentioned, Badgermoles now sense emotion? That's a very weird change and it would reflect upon Toph who instead of being able to sense lies would be able to sense emotion now?
      I'm not saying the show isn't good, but if you were a fan of the cartoon you should be able to see the frustration of the fans who would have loved to see the characters they knew brought back to life.
      Just 4 episodes in and I already understand why the creators walked out of this production. I understand that Aaron Erhaz is still part of the series and he was lead writer for the cartoon and was responsible for the major story arcs, but the Live Action Series is not the cartoon that I loved.

    22:04 and I think that's the issue with the show. They are trying to check too many boxes with only 8 episodes, resulting in a story that is rushed and incohesive. Hopefully Netflix allow at least 10 episodes for season 2.

      Iroh got the Title Dragon of the West because he "slew the Last Dragon in the Fire Nation", which lies to the Western Side of the World. And he has used his mastery in Fire Bending to emulate how a Dragon uses their innate fire in battle.
      And yes, if Lu Ten didn't die on the frontlines Iroh would have continued his siege of Ba Sing Se and eventually broke through.

    At first I really hated the way that Bumi was depicted in this episode of the adaptation. However, this version of him actually makes a lot of sense. Both Aang and Bumi are around the same age, just that the former didn't age. As the only surviving individual who knew Aang back in the day, he has every right to be critical of his long lost friend. And when you pay close attention to Bumi's statements, his character is perfect for the purpose that it was intended: one friend being totally blunt and unfiltered to the other; NOT a powerful adult earth king versus the avatar.

    Iroh had a flashback to Lu Ten's funeral, and with Iroh's Leaves from the Vine playing in the background, hit me so hard, it always brought me to tears and made me cry! A heartbreaking musical call back. A callback to Iroh's lament for his son. This scenes is so sad. In episode 4, "Into the Dark," the show takes a beat to focus on the cruel impact of war.
    "Leaves from the Vine" is a song from the season two episode "Tales of Ba Sing Se" of the animated television series Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is a traditional Fire Nation lullaby that is sung by Iroh as he mourns on his late son's birthday.
    It is only when you interpret the song as the loss of a loved one. But if you take it literally, then its a song about someone beaten and weak from war finally coming home to those they love, and those who waited being proud of their soldier.❤

    CONGRATULATIONS to all the Cast and Crew! ♥️ Good news! Netflix Avatar: The Last Airbender gets 2-Seasons Renewal to conclude live-action adaptation!
    On March 6, Netflix has just confirmed that it will renew ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender‘ for Seasons 2 and 3. Aang’s journey will conclude in Season 3, just as it did in the animated series from Nickelodeon.
    After topping the Netflix streaming charts, the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender received a massive double renewal that lets the show continue on through season 2 and 3. While the episode count for each season has not been disclosed, Netflix confirms showrunner Albert Kim and his team have enough runway to adapt the entirety of the Nickelodeon animated series, which ran for three seasons.
    Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Netflix Feb. 22, and even though there were loads of mixed reactions within the fandom at large, everyone seemed to watch it. The show became the streamer's No. 1 English-language TV project with 41.1 million views in 11 days, according to Netflix.
    Since the show’s debut on February 22, it has been the top English show with 41.1 million views in just 11 days. The series has ranked as the No. 1 show in 76 countries and in the top 10 in 92 countries.
    We already know there will be a time jump in between seasons 1 and 2. Albert Kim explained in a previous interview with EW that he needed to make tweaks to the story in order to account for his young actors visibly aging up on screen. Cormier, who auditioned for Ang at the age of 11, is now 14. Kiawentiio, who joined the show at 14, is now 17. And so on.
    “All three seasons of the animated series essentially take place in the course of one calendar year,” Kim said. “There was no way we could do that. So we had to design this first season, especially, to accommodate the possibility of some time elapsing between the first and the second season.” ♥️
