The guy playing Iroh has shown up in a few things before, that might be why Lupa feels ike he seems familiar. He's had a recurring role in a lot of the live action Star Wars stuff on Disney Plus (Mando, Ahsoka) so that could be it.
Zuko and Sokka were incredibly acted lol and Aang’s actor had moments where he flashed good acting but that was usually helped by another talented actor across the screen from him. He’s young and this was his first role so he’s going to undeniably get better in later seasons. Gran Gran was the worst actor on the show and thankfully we don’t see her past the first episode lol

@@benapeh854 I'll be honest. Reading the Gene Yang graphic novels (writing is really shallow and predictable) and having watched Korra, I kinda lost interest in the future of Avatar. Still love the original, but it was just downhill after that. Good to hear that some people like the novels though. Might look into them now that you've said this.
Y’know now that I think about it, it’s explained in one of the comics that Aang’s life was drained because of the years he was in the avatar state, so he died at 66. Had katara and Sokka not saved him, he would eventually die and the avatar cycle would be lost forever
I pray they get second season because the director did say with this first season being out and him hearing all the opinions he knows what to do better next season and I enjoyed this very much 😂

I both liked some parts of this show and hated others. I found YaBoyRoshi through the reactions to the OG animated series. They said the live action was meant to be more mature and target an older audience but they literally just removed all of the subtlety and masterful use of subtext present in the original and made every line of dialogue exposition. They don't trust the audience to decipher anything by themselves. You don't get even a single second to wonder what's going on or how a character feels about something because they'll straight up just tell it to your face every time. Also, most if not all of the things they changed were not for the better... And in my opinion it's all a big shame, because a truly LOVE most of the cast and think they were very carefully chosen for each one of their roles.

I remember watching your ATLA/LOK reactions during the pandemic. I looked forward to every upload. I'm glad to be back. Edit: I don't think the show is bad, just not as good as it could've been. However, they started losing me after episode 3. I think the first 2 episodes were great. And I think ppl are putting too much blame on the actors and not the director and the writer.
I personally enjoyed the Live Action tbh, yeah there were some changes but not every LA adaptation has to be 100% accurate. The setting of this world is on point. 🔥

I feel like I enjoyed watch8hg this more with y’all than I did by myself and that’s one reason I love reaction channels. I liked the pilot about a 2.5/5 watching it by myself but a 3.5 or 4/5 with y’all.

Something I don't understand is why they didn't adapt the signal going out around the world. The whole point of that was to be the fuel for everyone to actually start fighting again. It's supposed to be like just the existence of the avatar causes change and gives hope to everyone.

I both liked some parts of this show and hated others. I found YaBoyRoshi through the reactions to the OG animated series. No matter my feelings on the show, I GOTTA watch yalls reaction to this cause I know that'll make it a blast.

They said the live action was meant to be more mature and target an older audience but they literally just removed all of the subtlety and masterful use of subtext present in the original and made every line of dialogue exposition.
They don't trust the audience to decipher anything by themselves. You don't get even a single second to wonder what's going on or how a character feels about something because they'll straight up just tell it to your face every time.
Also, most if not all of the things they changed were not for the better...
And in my opinion it's all a big shame, because a truly LOVE most of the cast and think they were very carefully chosen for each one of their roles.

Look, I kinda get it... but you are clearly remembering the original series thru rose tainted glasses. I myself find the original series is a masterpiece but I don't lie to myself either. I KNOW there is a lot to complain/dismantle in the original series, let's not kid ourselves. People complaining about things like "Oh NO Sokha aint sexist anymore!" When I can clearly say that Sokha was the worst one dimensional sexist ever written ... and that was for 4 episodes MAX. So complaining about that AINT A THING. And I can EASILY go on and on, because you see, if one wants to dismantle a series bit by bit, one can always accomplish this task easily. So pleeease, don't come with "Oh no my subtext and subtlety, where it gone??" cause I'll easily come back and point out all the "unsubtle subtext" from season one. And believe me lol there's a lot of examples buttercup.

How about you then start defining what made Sokka the worst one dimensional sexist ever written and provide some comparisons as to why Sokka's worse than these other characters. Clearly, it was too subtle for you to understand that sexism existed in the Water tribe as they were being too stuck in their old ways in an ever-changing world with greater changes brought forth due to the influence of the Avatar.
Did the OP ever write that there wasn't any "unsubtle subtext"? I get it, this is hard for you to understand., however, saying that the "subtle subtext" is missing is not the same as saying there only was "subtle subtext". All shows have that.

Edit: I don't think the show is bad, just not as good as it could've been. However, they started losing me after episode 3. I think the first 2 episodes were great. And I think ppl are putting too much blame on the actors and not the director and the writer.
I personally enjoyed the Live Action tbh, yeah there were some changes but not every LA adaptation has to be 100% accurate. The setting of this world is on point. 🔥
