Halkman's wings being connected to him in some way isn't unprecedented. It's not like Ironman tech, it's typically either magical or alien, likely the former here.
I know, right! Considering the control he has over them, there has to be some kind of mind link. maybe not nerves.. but some kind of connection. So it would hurt..
In the comics, the NtH metal is in his bones if i remember correctly. That’s why he can heal, come back to life when die etc. He can shape it into whatever he needs it to be and still haven’t figured out all the things it can do.
40:30 That is usually kind of what always happens to Hawkman in almost any adaption outside of comics he usually spends most of it just getting his ass kicked, despite him (& Hawkgirl/woman) supposedly being amongst the greatest fighters, and that's if they just don't die for the plot since reincarnation is usually a part of their powerset. While some versions have actual wings the ones with artificial wings I believe are supposedly still connected to their body at like the shoulder blades/muscles, or some kind of vestigial bone or muscle in that area that their reincarnations have or develop.x
i think it's the worf effect. in star trekk the next generation worf is the security officer and one of the toughest members of the crew but he gets his ass whopped all the time to show how big of a threat the enemy is
I actually thought Hawkman's tenacity in this movie was one of my favorite things about him. He's like the Rocky Balboa of the DC Universe. He can't hit as hard as Superman, Black Adam, or Wonder Woman, but the dude can take a ridiculous amount of punishment and keep getting back up. Eventually, he wears his opponents down and strikes a blow that sends them reeling. Anyway, I don't think the point was "he gets his ass beat" -- it was "he gets his ass beat, but keeps getting back up and punching."
I WATCHED IT WITH MY DAD AND CAN I JUST SAY I CANNOT WAIT FOR A SECOND MOVIE IF THEY MAKE ONE!! The way it ended made it seem like there’s more to come and i’m prayinggggg
This version is loosely based off the new 52 Black Adam. Contrast to the comics, he and his nephew were chosen to share the power. While the nephew had hope, the uncle didn't. So while calling on the power to transform both of them, the uncle killed him and took all the power for himself.
Dwayne was cast as black Adam over a decade ago when he wasn't cringe at all. He also looked alot like comic books black Adam when he was younger especially when he had that slight receding hairline.
Something kinda funny and kinda cool to me is that the actor who played Hurut in his Shazam form also plays one of the young versions of The Rock on his show "Young Rock".
27:50 my god. I just now realized this is a role switch. Instead of the parents dying and another Batman is born. We get the man in black with the kid dying.
Dwayne Johnson is the best pick for the role of the titular character. Since this is a spin-off to the Shazam movie, I do hope that DCEU will plan to have a showdown between Black Adam and Shazam. And the only cameo I didn’t even expect to see is Henry Cavill coming back as Superman.
I also liked that they tied Hawkman into it AND made Carter Hall black. It always bugged me that Hawkman and Hawkgirl (which also just sounds weird now) were both reincarnated Egyptian/Thanagarians but somehow were both SNOW WHITE. I know a bunch of racist dipshits almost definitely whined about Carter Hall being black BUT THAT'S HOW IT ALWAYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
@@RabidDogma I'm one of those people who doesn't like when a character is race/gender swapped, but I actually agree. This reaction had me weezing. Also Hawkman's wings come out of him not the armour. The armour reacts to when he brings his wings out to then protect them. They are wings of a hawk so the can get damage. So when Sabac was pulling them out it was like getting a body part pulled off.
They changed how he got his powers compared to the comics. In the comics it was his nephew who was chosen then when his nephew told him he got powers the nephew decided to share them with him after the nephew says Shazam he kills him keeping all the powers for himself.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who recognized the comic references. Good looking out. It's a shame we didn't get to see more of Doctor Fate's powers but we'll take what we can get.

41:35 in current comics black Adam is currently part of the justice league roster. So for sure this set up of him joining the league plus they need to recruit other strong powered beings be good or evil when darksied and his army invade earth. Also note something major recently: James Gunn who is know co ceo(?) for these films mentions he wish to set up a “kingdom come like scenario.” So that basically hints what the set up for future films now.
This movie pretty much carried the soul of the current DC comic era to the big screen. The convoluted plot, the ironic hero logic, the dialogue, the setting's atmosphere... it all feels like reading a new 52 comic.

Of course he wanted it to be rated R and he helped produce it and it was a hit. I’m super sad they won’t do the Superman v Black Adam like Henry and Rock wanted it sucks
Aren't Hawkman's wings connected to his spine? Like he is moving them like it's part of his body, technology is one thing but still is connected to his nerves.
@@evil3775 I know that Hawkman has two incarnations: one as an alien from Thanagar and the other as a reincarnation cycle, which surprised me because, according to Google, that reincarnation-one is the version of Hawkman in Black Adam/DCEU. Despite having a ship and equipment made of Nth metal (a metal from Thanagar in the comics) and all of the futuristic technology in the film. On a side note, wiki classifies Hawkman also as a metahuman(?). This thing is really confusing. I'm not too familiar with Hawkman, so correct me if I've mixed something up.

the whole thing about Black Adam saying Shazam to depower himself and then Adam dying from old age that Lupa is talking about is associated with the origin of Black Adam being originally sent to the far edges of the universe by the Wizards, and it took Black Adam 5000 years tot travel beack to earth, so that caused his mortal form to age 5000 years
Idc what anybody says, I loved this film. Except the ending cause it felt a little rushed & I guess it makes sense since they cut out so much so that it wouldn’t get a rated r rating, but besides the ending, the film was solid & the action was cool. The special effects were cool to look at too
The fact that people pan this movie annoys me. Like what did you want? This movie was being advertised as a superhero slugfest and that's what we got. Visually stunning, amazing fights, a genuinely good performance from Dwayne Johnson and Peirce Brosnan. Is it groundbreaking cinema? No. But it never even tried to be. I enjoyed the fuck out of it. 8.5/10 on a pure entertainment scale.
in regards to the wings thing, it wasnt properly shown but hawkman actually has feathered wings but in the movie they are just coverd in armour, So it'd still hurt cuz its a part of him not like a prosthetic or anything
To be fair to the Rock coming late to the Superhero genre, he has been trying to get this movie off the ground for about 10 years or more. For goodness' sake, the man still had hair when he first pitched himself as Black Adam.
Henry Cavill didn't want to perform for the Witcher anymore not because of his recast for Superman but because The writers of the Witcher netflix show didn't respect the Lore of the Books which was a big deal for him knowing he was a big fan. The Writers even admit they didn't like The books nor the video games. Henry said "Ok Goodbye i'm done".
Fun fact: The Rock actually convinced Henry cavill to come back as the "Man of steel", which is what surprised me the most when I watched this, on the first day it came out. For me, Black Adam, Hawkman and Doctor Fate were the only ones who stole the whole movie. From learning about Black Adam's history and his power capabilities to seeing him deal with heroes and learning more about the world he now lives in...I can't WAIT! to see how Black Adam will react, when he finds out, there's someone else with the same powers as him.
Black Adam’s OG origins are that he was an ancient Egyptian slave who was thought to be pure of heart by the wizard Shazam He was corrupted by how powerful he became and decided to overthrow the pharaoh and plans the rule the world Shazam is furious and since he is unable to revoke the powers he sends Adam to the most distant star from earth, renaming him Black Adam. He then spends 5000 years flying back to Earth and arrives in the mid 21st century. He becomes the arch nemesis of the 3 new champions Shazam has bestowed powers upon. The Marvel family. Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, and Mary Marvel. Things have been tweaked here and there since then but that’s the OG
Apparently, there was suppose to be an end credit scene showing Fate's helmet reappearing showing that he's still alive. Maybe not Kent, but there have been many over the years
@@Orannis01 the only issue i have is that i really liked pierce brosnan as fate and wanted to see more of him specifically. i really hope they do a prequel movie with him. his arc in this movie felt like something that should have been built up over the course of several movies. the movie did a decent job conveying that he was tired of being alive and seeing the future, but it definitely deserved more time to explore that aspect
For real, this movie was much better than i was expecting. I sat there for the 2hours just gone. There was only Black Adam, didnt feel discomfort from not moving or not eating.
It's been confirmed by Dwayne that Dr. Fate will return btw. Not sure when or how, but Dwayne delivered on all of his promises this far so I believe it.
Only thing I have a problem with is people saying Black Adam was an antihero because he was killing people in this when Captain America moon night and hell even in this universe Batman have killed the same number of people if not more. They should have tweaked it a little more to where his morals were even more extreme that way he could be a true antihero.
He should've killed his kid after he shared the power, instead of his kid sharing it and then immediately getting no scoped and it would've made sense narrative wise as well cause his son wasn't there to save his mom and Adam could hate him for that. I think that would've pushed him as a true anti-hero
I believe, like Optimus Prime in the Bay Formers, the problem is more the execution of defeated villains than the killing itself, like the two intergang guys running away and that got clapped doing so
I agree with your last sentence. But the rest I don't agree but I think the difference is none of those other guys would kill if they were in black Adam's position (except Snyder batman but he's his own thing). Those guys killed in self defense and because they didn't have the speed/strength to win conflicts without it. If captain america or moon knight were facing regular humans and they had black Adam's powers they would just disable them because they are in no danger of being hurt by the humans.
movie has so many plot holes, like they came to talk to him, and the first thing they do is throw hands like rly. for what the movie is its rly enjoyable
G'day it's Steven from Down Under I really enjoyed this movie and I'm planning to watch it a second time today before I steam it and eventually buy it on Blu-ray. It's a thoroughly enjoyable superhero/anti-hero movie. However I don't understand why it's world wide box office takings were so modest, though not being released in Russia and China has unfortunately impacted on its box office. Firstly I have zero interest in the "unbiased" opinion ( insert sarcasm here ) of critics, I'm also suspicious as to why the audience score of this film on Wikipedia are gradually reducing, is there a campaign against this movie, perhaps we should ask people to give it the thumbs up if they've enjoyed it?
I thought Black Adam was a solid movie for sure. Better than some of the DCEU films by far. I liked the visuals, humor, action scenes, cinematography, costume and set desings, easter eggs and musical score. The CGI was great too in my opinion. The story was interesting but did suffer a bit due to alot of the other stuff happening and it kind of got lost because of it. I did liked the addition of the JLA with Dr. Fate and Hawkman being my favorites besides the main character Black Adam. The supporting cast was ok in my books as well. Was nice seeing Amanda Waller, Emilia Harcourt, Shazam and Superman in the film. It was basically a mix of Moon Knight, 300, Shazam, Aquaman, Man of Steel, X-Men: Apocalypse and Black Panther. The musical score was also interesting in the sense that it had this hip-hop vibe to it and made it surprisingly upbeat and catchy. I liked that even though I am not a fan of actual hip-hop music like that. Overrall, I really enjoyed this one. To some, this will not be your cup of tea. If you're a comic book fan or just like live action superhero/villain movies, this is for you. I give this a 7-8/10.
I can't get over the fact that Hawkman spends most of the movie threatening Black Adam like he didn't rock his shit like 5 times already lmao, still, great movie.
Waller's threat at the end to Black Adam would've been a lot more intimidating if there weren't just like four people (at most, that we know of) that aren't from Earth who could rival Black Adam. It's just Superman, I think Supergirl (I don't really know or care if she's canon to this timeline), I think Starfire (I don't know if that stupidly edgy Titans show is part of this universe and frankly I don't care; how the fuck did they get like 4 seasons, was it really that good?), and Martian Manhunter.
The reason the wings hurt when ripped off is because nth metal binds itself to the user when dawned. Allowing for better control and adaptability. So his wings being ripped off although not organic is the same as halving his arm torn in half
I was wondering if you guys were going to do this one. It's a solid 8 out of 10 movie in my opinion. Enjoyed this movie more than a lot of others this year. Loved the action.
I think in the comics, when Adam turned on the Wizard he just kind of teleported him to the far side of the Galaxy and he spent 5000 years just flying back to earth.
A diverse cast, a decent bunch of actors, good male/female interaction, no "All men bad" and "All women stronger than any man" narrative, no belittling of the male characters and a decent if not spectacular story. Even if it isn't great, I hope it does well enough for other studios to take note and we can finally get back to way movies used to be, entertaining and fun.

2is1199 In the new 52, Teth-Adam and his NEPHEW are granted the powers but only because they chose his nephew and he begged them to help save Teth-Adam's life. However while Amon - yeah his name was the same as the kid in this film - wanted to liberate their oppressors from the evil that consumed them through example, Teth-Adam wanted bloody vengeance for what they had done to his family and Amon's. So when they called down the power together, Teth-Adam snapped the poor boy's neck and took it all for himself. I can see how Dwayne and company didn't go with that origin because it'd be more difficult to redeem Black Adam in this film. Btw the guy playing the Champion is the same dude who plays 20-year-old Dwayne in Young Rock so this is very surreal seeing them in the same frame.

IIRC Black Adam in his first Golden Age appearance, saying Shazam caused him to turn to dust/decaying human body since he had been traveling for 5000 years through space after having been banished originally. Then he was resurrected by Doctor Sivana during the Bronze Age/Earth-S era, during which I believe he could transform back into Teth-Adam without dying. Then after Crisis on Infinite Earths, his status quo for most of Post-Crisis to Flashpoint was Black Adam possessing the body of his reincarnation/descendant Theo Adam when he wasn’t Black Adam. Eventually Black Adam IIRC is able to dominant the Theo Adam permanently and is just referred to as Teth-Adam when in human form. Then the New 52 happened and Black Adam’s status went back to being sealed and transforming back would turn him into a decaying/dying Teth-Adam like the Golden Age again. Then he got resurrected during the Forever Evil storyline, during which I don’t know whether he could transform back or not. Then Rebirth happened and semi-restored the pre-New 52 continuity, but IIRC Black Adam still had the status of where transforming back in Teth-Adam would cause his body to begin decaying to dust again at least in 2019. I don’t know what his current status (in regards what saying Shazam does to Black Adam) is as of Infinite Frontier/Dark Crisis though.

To be fair they did not choose Black Adam.
@@lol-ot4pn well,that’s not as funny.

I love their reactions, Lupa and Roshi saying "Yeeaahh" at the same time is always hilarious .
Yup it’s so good
40:30 That is usually kind of what always happens to Hawkman in almost any adaption outside of comics he usually spends most of it just getting his ass kicked, despite him (& Hawkgirl/woman) supposedly being amongst the greatest fighters, and that's if they just don't die for the plot since reincarnation is usually a part of their powerset.
While some versions have actual wings the ones with artificial wings I believe are supposedly still connected to their body at like the shoulder blades/muscles, or some kind of vestigial bone or muscle in that area that their reincarnations have or develop.x
I personally prefer the organic wings just for the sake of it being more understandable as to why the wings had nerve endings.
i think it's the worf effect. in star trekk the next generation worf is the security officer and one of the toughest members of the crew but he gets his ass whopped all the time to show how big of a threat the enemy is
I actually thought Hawkman's tenacity in this movie was one of my favorite things about him.
@@baronhausenpheffer Same! He kept on swinging! Easily one of my favorite characters in the entire movie.

Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate was so spectacular. His magic looked like mirror dimension spells in Dr. Strange MoM
Pierce Brosnan is something else, that beautiful bastard and his beautiful voice, he should play more mentor and godly characters

That fight between Fate and Sabbac where you see the fight through the reflection in Fate's helmet is fantastic
I also really like who they got for Hawkman and Dr Fate. Would love to see a Justice Society movie/series.

41:24 - 41:34 lupa was my whole reaction when i first seen it in the theater 😂
Something kinda funny and kinda cool to me is that the actor who played Hurut in his Shazam form also plays one of the young versions of The Rock on his show "Young Rock".
27:50 my god. I just now realized this is a role switch. Instead of the parents dying and another Batman is born. We get the man in black with the kid dying.
37:07 still gets me 😂💀
Dwayne Johnson is the best pick for the role of the titular character.
Kinda hope he will return in future films, for longer.. Or maybe even a solo movie about him
Can't wait for Clark and Adam to kick ass in the sequ- Oh yeah, there ain't gonna be a sequel.
This reaction had me weezing. Also Hawkman's wings come out of him not the armour. The armour reacts to when he brings his wings out to then protect them. They are wings of a hawk so the can get damage. So when Sabac was pulling them out it was like getting a body part pulled off.
Black Adam is one of my favorite DC live action films. From start to finish, this movie is awesome.

These jokes surely rock...
They changed how he got his powers compared to the comics. In the comics it was his nephew who was chosen then when his nephew told him he got powers the nephew decided to share them with him after the nephew says Shazam he kills him keeping all the powers for himself.
Hard to root for a nephew killer i guess
Ok, was curious about this, surely more anti villain
That's 1 version of his origin ...

Even though this movie didn't do great in the box office. It is still getting a sequel and I'm happy it is.
Man, Hawkman and Doctor Fate were incredible in this film.
Many people can't tell that Blonde woman from the underwater prison is Peacemaker's Harcourt
This movie pretty much carried the soul of the current DC comic era to the big screen. The convoluted plot, the ironic hero logic, the dialogue, the setting's atmosphere... it all feels like reading a new 52 comic.
New 52 is the best DC's shared universe ever was.
37:00 Wings are connected to his nervous system. It's like another limb. He feels that. Otherwise he wouldn't move them -_-
Can We just acknowledge it took 15 years for this movie to get made This was the Rocks favorite comic book character and it shows glad he finally got to make his movie
Of course he wanted it to be rated R and he helped produce it and it was a hit. I’m super sad they won’t do the Superman v Black Adam like Henry and Rock wanted it sucks
Apparently the Rock was pushing for Black Adam and Shazam to be seperated and not tied in.....even though he says Shazam🤣🤣
Aren't Hawkman's wings connected to his spine? Like he is moving them like it's part of his body, technology is one thing but still is connected to his nerves.
hawkman is a god if you read the comics
@@evil3775 I know that Hawkman has two incarnations: one as an alien from Thanagar and the other as a reincarnation cycle, which surprised me because, according to Google, that reincarnation-one is the version of Hawkman in Black Adam/DCEU. Despite having a ship and equipment made of Nth metal (a metal from Thanagar in the comics) and all of the futuristic technology in the film. On a side note, wiki classifies Hawkman also as a metahuman(?). This thing is really confusing.
I'm not too familiar with Hawkman, so correct me if I've mixed something up.
@@nikkHere only reason i say this is bc they were making a joke about him crying about his wings almost getting torn off but there literally apart of him not machinery but I thought ol dude read comics guess not
the whole thing about Black Adam saying Shazam to depower himself and then Adam dying from old age that Lupa is talking about is associated with the origin of Black Adam being originally sent to the far edges of the universe by the Wizards, and it took Black Adam 5000 years tot travel beack to earth, so that caused his mortal form to age 5000 years
Idc what anybody says, I loved this film. Except the ending cause it felt a little rushed & I guess it makes sense since they cut out so much so that it wouldn’t get a rated r rating, but besides the ending, the film was solid & the action was cool. The special effects were cool to look at too
I don't really understand what they did in this movie, but Hawkman's wings are supposed to be organic which is why they hurt
The "rock" jokes are hilarious 😂😂

The Justice Society is THE FIRST SUPERHERO TEAM IN COMIC HISTORY since 1940
The fact that people pan this movie annoys me.
Black Adam’s OG origins are that he was an ancient Egyptian slave who was thought to be pure of heart by the wizard Shazam
He was corrupted by how powerful he became and decided to overthrow the pharaoh and plans the rule the world
Shazam is furious and since he is unable to revoke the powers he sends Adam to the most distant star from earth, renaming him Black Adam.
Maybe not Kent, but there have been many over the years
The helmet is a conduit, someone else can always be the new Dr Fate
@@Orannis01 the only issue i have is that i really liked pierce brosnan as fate and wanted to see more of him specifically. i really hope they do a prequel movie with him. his arc in this movie felt like something that should have been built up over the course of several movies. the movie did a decent job conveying that he was tired of being alive and seeing the future, but it definitely deserved more time to explore that aspect

@@CommanderSteelTrap Yeah my comment didn't age too well

Only thing I have a problem with is people saying Black Adam was an antihero because he was killing people in this when Captain America moon night and hell even in this universe Batman have killed the same number of people if not more. They should have tweaked it a little more to where his morals were even more extreme that way he could be a true antihero.
He should've killed his kid after he shared the power, instead of his kid sharing it and then immediately getting no scoped and it would've made sense narrative wise as well cause his son wasn't there to save his mom and Adam could hate him for that. I think that would've pushed him as a true anti-hero
@@fellowspacemarine solid

G'day it's Steven from Down Under
I really enjoyed this movie and I'm planning to watch it a second time today before I steam it and eventually buy it on Blu-ray.
So his wings being ripped off although not organic is the same as halving his arm torn in half
came for the Rock jokes and was not disappointed
Diamonds are forever....it's The Rock in here!!! lol
I enjoyed this movie so much more than I thought I would.
That end credit scene became so pointless and made me mad after i heard about Henry they basically dropped the entire league
I loved the movie, you guys reaction made it even better
The Rock is so muscular they had to edit his head on another body for that opening scene🤣

Hawkman was screaming because the Nth metal wings are connected to him mentally so he felt like he really had wings ripped off
Cavil didn't leave the Witcher for Superman, he left due to creative differences to put it lightly.
