I love your shining smile and happy personality Mr. Ed. You are just precious! I would love it if your wife would partake in the videos so we could get to see and know her too. If you love her I know we would too! Hi Mona! I have to really hunt far back to find videos I haven't already watched. I so want and NEED some local to me honey or bee pollen for my allergies. Any bee keepers here from the Nashville TN area? Has to be close to help. Not that I wouldn't adore to have ANY honey!!!
Thank you, Mr Ed, for inspiring my beeswax craft! When I first started rendering beeswax, I thought this is Crazy Messy work. I started watching your vids, then I thought You were Crazy! But your buckets of wax are a thing of beauty, so I kept watching, learning more about rendering, and now I have a little process of my own for pouring beeswax candles. Cannot wait for this season's honey harvest, then I can get to the cappings! With appreciation from a fellow beekeeper, Michelle of Homespun Honey NC

Mr Ed chewed some cappings. The proof is @12:14 look how fast he is moving lol Cappings are the best quality wax in my experience. How many swarms you been called out to so far this year? I am already on number one haha We had a few sunny days last week and that was my earliest swarm ever. Got them into a hive and 2 days later wind and rain and cooler. Wish y'all the best. The Spring is here Swarm season has started, yay!!!!

I just hang my screen above the fire in the fire pit. 5 minutes and clean. No scraping req'd. I must say you have the bomb kettle of all the guys. Note to self, render when its cold and no bees flying.🤣
A fire pit is the right way to do it, but in a pinch, the torch is a great stand in. For sure a better time to do rendering is when it's to cold for the bees to fly, but, it just does not seem to work out that way for me. Great hearing from you Tadd, God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Your strainer-cleaning method really cracked me up! Here I was thinking "maybe he dips it in boiling water and watches the gunk melt off" or "maybe he uses a pressure washer"😂 With as much joy as you had over using a blow torch, why would you ever try another method? Haha
Hi Jeff, I was just wondering if you would try boiling a kettle of water, then pour it on what ever you want wax gone from. You can even recollect what comes off by putting a coffee filter on the ground and pouring over it. It works like magic..lol. take care, and love the vids. And as it makes you feel good, god bless you sir.
First, thank you for your blessings, it's the best perk I have with the channel. Second, I have used boiling water to clean the strainer, and it does work....pretty good. However, it does not remove the embedded dirt from the screen. For that, fire is necessary. Plus, it's so much faster. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Mr.Ed, will the girl's draw out the heavily waxed plastic foundation during the summer - fall? or only during the spring flow? I noticed that you use plastic frame's to withstand the high velocity extraction.
Generally, bees draw comb when there is a nectar flow. AS long as food is coming into the hive, they will build comb. However, it is mostly limited to the spring and early summer months. Thanks for watching. God's peace Carl. Mr. Ed
good luck tryin to get your colony count down i've been tryin to get down to about 2 colonies for several years now cause i'm old and crippled up. i'm down to 12 but these dang bees just will not cooperate they are ready to be split again right now
I think I may have messed up. Wife and I made the trip to Victoria Tx (150 miles) to purchase 160 pounds of wax. We got there and the stuff looked horrible. I got it home and did some initial cleaning. Lined my pot with a 5 gallon bucket paint straining bag. Put the wax in, in batches. Got the pot to 160⁰ and got the wax melted. Poured it up. Next day got the wax out and it's the color of mud. Waiting for Amazon to get my 10 micron filters to me. My question is, will the wax get "pretty" with straining or maybe the guy overheated it? Wife and I had plans to use for "crafts" for trade shows. I just retired and we'd planned on supplementing our income in retirement. The wax cost me $800 bucks. Afraid that's down the drain. Sure hope you can give me some good news. Thanks, Jay
I can't say about the wax you bought whether it will clean up or not, but normally, each time the wax is filtered, it gets lighter in color as more of the particulars are being removed. At least that has been my experience of it. My suggestion, keeping refining it and see what happens. In all my years of rendering wax, I have not overheated it, but I always have water in my mix. Let me know how things work out for you. Thanks for watching. God's peace Jay. Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff purchased a "grease filter" stand and filters. Melted at 160⁰ in a paint filter bag with water. Poured up in buckets. Re-rendered the blocks through the grease filters with two layers of paper towels. Looks like dark caramel brown. Sickening. Found way better wax for the same price. Can't afford to do it again.
He's always somewhere in the back ground keeping tabs on me. Just a heads up, next weeks video is a cut out we did together two days after this video was shot. Thanks for watching. God's peace Ethan. Mr. Ed
Makes me wonder if you could save that water and then distribute it somewhere less messy when the flow is low and you usually end up feeding anyway... Not sure if it would be worth the effort or not, but just a thought.
A very good thought, but the water mixture would have to be refrigerated to prevent mold from forming and fermentation, so the effort and expense is not worth it for me to do that. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Would it be better just to use boiling water to render or melt the dirty wax debris off the mesh. I would think all the scrapping and fire would cause the mesh to wear down or created larger holes. Just asking.
I have used boiling water and steam to remove the trash, and it does work, but not well enough. The tough dirt still remains embedded with water and steam, but fire cleans it right out. Thanks for watching. God's peace Cynthia. Mr. Ed
Just get some hay bales and pour all the rendering water in them and instant hive..............or whatever. Mostly whatever and A-PLUS on the observation hive. Jesus weekend and God Bless Yall!
Happy Easter to you as well! The only way to keep moths from stored comb is to ensure ONLY honey was in the wax. If brood or pollen was stored in the cells, it will attract moths. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
I never heard of a ratio between honey production and wax from that production. However, we did process about 4,200 pounds of honey last year. The only ratio I know of is it takes 7 pounds of honey to produce 1 pound of wax. Thanks for watching. God's peace Russell. Mr. Ed
Sorry about that, I got a bit to close to the phone and it was on full volume so I could hear it from outside. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed
Jeff, do you sell the wax? I would love to buy about 3 lbs. I would rather support the Abby than a more commercial entity. God bless and have a blessed Easter.
Thank you for your blessings and offer, but I do not sell any wax as we use it all between Monk Soap and Abbee Honey. Easter blessings to you and yours as well Brian, God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
It is a commercial kitchen kettle that came from the monks kitchen. After the flood in 2016, they put their 2 kettles on the street for trash. I picked them up and refurbished them and use both of them in our honey operation. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. I thought you used the capping wax for Monk made skin care products and darker wax for the hive. Ever thought of water dumping onto a rimmed tray with straw so it was easier for the bees to recover honey?
The capping wax is used for Monk Soap as well as Abbee Honey. Capping wax is suppose to be the best type of wax to put on foundations. I have thought of many ways to recover the honey from the water after rendering, but in the end, simply pouring it on the ground works very well. Thanks for watching. God's peace Vicki. Mr. Ed
Question for you... what kind, size and length nail do/should you use to build frames? I have a framing jig but not sure what size nails to use to assemble the frames or how many to put where? I'll be nailing by hand with a hammer.
I use an air stapler, and I shoot a 1 1/4 inch staple. The video link below shows how I build my frames. Thanks for watching. God's peace Nancy. Mr. Ed th-cam.com/video/clUNGgjLGPo/w-d-xo.html

Mr Ed, nice haul! Can you imagine how many bees it took to make that much wax? I do have a question for you. How many deep foundations do you think you coat with 1 pound of wax?
Yes indeed, and I have done it several time. However, the heavier trash, the ones where there are cocoons in it are put into the compost pile. I'm told it helps with aeration. Thanks for watching. God's peace Alison. Mr. Ed

Nice to see just some of what you go through to get your equipment ready for spring. I couldn’t imagine how hard it would be to do this without the equipment you have available. Thanks for sharing this with us and letting us tag along! Have a great weekend:)
I really like how you teach about bee keeping, you don’t just show rehoming them. It shows everyone how much work goes into your business. (Gift from God)
Thanks!
Thank you for your kindness Larry. Happy Easter brother. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Nice to see you Brother. Doing a great job as usual!! Keep on keeping!! 💪🏻😎🤓🐝🐝🐝
Hey Richard, always an honor to have you watching, thank you so much for dropping by. God's peace brother.

Thanks Mr. Ed!
You have been busy as a bee Mr. Ed! Bet you never hear that huh? lol
Happy Easter from the Bergeron clan, Brother Jeff! Ed, JoAnn, Joey and Debra. Peace be with you and yours. He is risen indeed!
Thank you Ed and clan, and a very joyous Easter to all of you as well. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Hank hill would be your best friend Mr Ed. He loves his propane and propane accessories. Hope all is well brother.
Any guy that loves fire is automatically a friend of mine. God's peace brother.

cmon people click click lets go .. im here for the intro but im def learning more about life than bee's... your a real treasure jeff and "crew"!
Hello Mr. Ed, happy Easter days.
Christian from Germany
Thank you and Happy Easter to you and yours. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I love these! Always show these videos lol
You know I will, thank for watching. God's peace Jennifer.
Mr. Ed
@Jeff Horchoff Bees I like the part where you scrape the gunk of the wax blocks...it is relaxing lol don't forget to show that!!
My husband and I never get tired of watching your videos Mr. Ed! WOW, there was a lot of bees on the ground sopping up all that honey water...
With appreciation from a fellow beekeeper,
Michelle of Homespun Honey NC
What a great story, and I'm honored to bee a part of it. Best wishes for your continued successes. Thanks for watching.God's peace Michelle.
Mr. Ed
Those are your children, jeff👏😁
Not mine, just some visitors to the abbey. My daughter is 33 years old. Thanks for watching. God's peace,
Mr. Ed
Dang! With that many bees there must be a beekeeper nearby! LOLOLOLOL
Those girls give away my location every time. Gary, if you enjoyed this video or wax rendering, I'm posting another one in just a few minutes. If you have time and are up to watching another one, I sure would appreciate it. And yes, there are bees in it. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
To date, I have 8 swarms....but the season is just beginning. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
You should be in charge of lighting the fire at the Easter Vigil! A blessed Easter to you and Mona. Oh, and you should record the bees buzzing. It's so relaxing to hear them. Say hi to the Abbot for me.🐝😊
I was really hoping you were going to make it here for the Paschal Triduum, It's been a while since you have been. Anyway, I will bee sure to tell the abbot hello for you, he will like that. Thank you for your Easter blessings, and may the joy of the Risen Lord be with you always. Happy Easter Linda. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Greetings from SW Oklahoma Jeff! I hope you have an awesome Easter weekend
Thank you, and Happy Easter to you and yours as well. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Mr Ed is waxing poetic
I just hang my screen above the fire in the fire pit. 5 minutes and clean. No scraping req'd. I must say you have the bomb kettle of all the guys. Note to self, render when its cold and no bees flying.🤣
A fire pit is the right way to do it, but in a pinch, the torch is a great stand in. For sure a better time to do rendering is when it's to cold for the bees to fly, but, it just does not seem to work out that way for me. Great hearing from you Tadd, God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
My favorite part is when u tender the wax. I dunno why but, it just fascinates me.
Beautiful area love your videos 😊God bless Mr ed
I can’t wait to start melting wax. We have eight hives first year.
I'm posting another video in 2 weeks on something you may be interested in, a solar wax melter. I can hardly wait to make the video. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
Jeff love your videos after a stressed week its nice to seem some family friendly content
Recycling the wax and honey 🍯 great job you and the bees. ❤️🐝
If you visit the abbey, you’re sure to see Mr. Ed’s SPECIAL bee box! 🤣
So wonderful to hear from you again Kate, I hope all is well. For sure, if you ever make a visit here I will bring them out for you. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Your strainer-cleaning method really cracked me up! Here I was thinking "maybe he dips it in boiling water and watches the gunk melt off" or "maybe he uses a pressure washer"😂 With as much joy as you had over using a blow torch, why would you ever try another method? Haha
Hot water would clean the screen better and less work needed
I was thinking boiling water too.
Mr. Ed
I love my Layens hives. I have five of them and let me tell you. They are so much easier on my back. No heavy lifting
Wait till you see my next Friday's post, I install a cut out into my Layens. I do love it. Let me know what you think. Thanks for watching. God's peace Evonne.
Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I look forward to seeing the video
Great video
Your weather changing from one day to the next, temp going up and down? Sounds like Wales, UK. It's April now, and today it's warm. YESTERDAY we had hail stones!
Thanks for the vid: so relaxing watching you render beeswax down. God bless you... and all those busy little ladies for their hard work making it all!
Even though our weather is somewhat unpredictable, I would not have it any other way...I do love living here. Thank you for your blessings, kind words, and for watching, it is all greatly appreciated. Until the next one, God's peace.

Awesome
You should sell the filtered garbage for painting the insides of swarm traps.
Now that's a great idea, you want to be head of that operation....it comes with an office at the abbey. Think about it. God's peace brother.
Mr. Ed
HELLO, THANK YOU JEESUS

How fun
Mr Ed! Use tongs to hold the screen while you burn off the trash! We can't lose you to a melted rubber glove 😜
I'm going to have to get some, that fire is HOT! Thanks for watching. God's peace Marc.
Mr.
Mr. Ed
So when you are alone in that building with the whole process working, do you wax poetically?
Only in my head. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
good luck tryin to get your colony count down i've been tryin to get down to about 2 colonies for several years now cause i'm old and crippled up. i'm down to 12 but these dang bees just will not cooperate they are ready to be split again right now
I hear you loud and clear brother. God's peace Joseph.
Mr. Ed
That bee that landed in the bin must have thought she hit the motherlode!
I bet she did! Thanks for watching. God's peace Paul.
Mr. Ed
@19:11 Dirt Rooster stalking you, Jeff!
Mr. Ed
Hi Jeff
Mr Ed
If put a cinder block down and use a propane weed torch . It really blast off the gunk.
Love it! Fire is amazing! Thanks for watching and for your idea. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
Hi Jeff. Happy Good Friday! Nice wax.
How do you keep wax months and hive beetles out of your stored cappings?
Happy Easter to you as well! The only way to keep moths from stored comb is to ensure ONLY honey was in the wax. If brood or pollen was stored in the cells, it will attract moths. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
I use the BernzOmatic backyard torch to do that. It has a wider and not so concentrated flame and is super fast!
We are brothers in fire, awesome! Thanks for watching. God's peace Mike.
Mr. Ed
You know Mr. Ed an old wood rasp or blunt wood plane would shave all that gunk off the top of your wax bricks prior to remelting
I use a hive tool and it works great. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching. Until the next one, God's peace Milo.
Mr. Ed
I heard that you get one lb of wax per hundred lb of honey. So did you get close to 7,000 lbs of honey last year?
I never heard of a ratio between honey production and wax from that production. However, we did process about 4,200 pounds of honey last year. The only ratio I know of is it takes 7 pounds of honey to produce 1 pound of wax. Thanks for watching. God's peace Russell.
Mr. Ed
@14:14 & @14:51 RIP Headphone users. Also Mr.Ed the stereo audio balance seems out of wack there 😀
Sorry about that, I got a bit to close to the phone and it was on full volume so I could hear it from outside.
Mr. Ed
Have you tried to use steam and a wooden scrapper to clean your screens? It would be much less aggressive.
I have used steam and boiling water, but neither clean as good as fire does...or as quickly. God's peace Olivier.
Mr. Ed
Master Sieve Maker: (sobs quietly)
where did you find the melter. wow its amazing
By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
God's peace Nancy.

even the bees do recycling , that's what we humans must to do too ♻️
Yes they do, and they are masters of it. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace Ziree.
Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, nice haul! Can you imagine how many bees it took to make that much wax? I do have a question for you. How many deep foundations do you think you coat with 1 pound of wax?
I could not say how many I can coat with a pound of wax, but I did almost 200 of them and used about 10 or 12 pounds. God's peace Don.
Mr. Ed
Are you bring back the Mullet back in style..
No, it will probably disappear on the next hair cut. God's peace Sherry.
Mr. Ed
@Jeff Horchoff Bees your still awesome god speed.
Jeff, is there enough wax left in the trash from the kettle that it could be cubed and burned as fire starters?
Yes indeed, and I have done it several time. However, the heavier trash, the ones where there are cocoons in it are put into the compost pile. I'm told it helps with aeration. Thanks for watching. God's peace Alison.
