After trying a few different sesame ball recipe, yours is the one I like best! I’ve made it with and without filling. Also, the dough last a few days in the fridge, as long as it’s nicely wrapped in saran wrap. Makes it easy to whip up fresh sesame ball instead of having to use the dough, all in one day, and then eat the leftover the next day. Thanks for keeping this video up. ❤
Your recipe work for me!!! It was sooo good. I cannot stop eating it. I've tried others youtube but I failed all the time. Thanks for teaching us how to make sesame balls!
Thank you for your recipe! I was able to make delicious sesame balls for my family. My husband says it’s not as sweet as he’d like so maybe I’ll use 1 cup of sugar instead of 3/4 cup. Thanks again!
i asked my mom how to make this and she didn't give me this specific recipe, but she informed me that growing up she used to put chocolate inside of these! i'm going to try and figure out how she did it but love this recipe!
Sesame balls is my favorite. I always buy this at chow king restaurant. I appreciate you for presenting all the ingredients and a very good instructions. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Now I can cook it especially for having a party after quarantine. Hope to learn more from you. God Bless.
Thank you for this video. It was easy to follow and my sesame balls turned out perfect. It wasn't too sweet, which I think is perfect for the elders and myself. I'd recommend adding a bit more sugar if you have a sweet tooth.
Yes they will still turn out but the round shape may not hold well. You can also replace with an actual potato boil/steam/microwave and smash like mash potato. If you do adjust the water amount.
Hi zoey, can I make this ahead 1 day before? I have an event that I would like to bring these to. If so, how do I store it overnight? Will it still be crunchy and fresh by that time?
I forgot to mix the water and mash potato and added the water to all the dry ingredients. The consistency became very sticky after adding the coconut milk. I didnt need to add the extra 1/4 cup of water... waiting to see how it tastes and will update 🙃
@@ZoeyandVFam it was delicious. I just have to work on the temperature and cooking time, as well as the size of the sesame balls so it isn't overcooked or under cook
Hi, I don’t recommend tapioca flour in place of mashed potatoes for this recipe. If you can’t find potato flakes you can steam/boil regular potatoes and smash to equal 1/2 cup. Otherwise you can do without adjusting the water content.
On one of your other sesame ball videos, you use 1 1/2 TB of baking powder. On this video, you said 1 TB baking powder. Would it matter how much exactly baking powder to use?
Hi, I personally have not tried so am not to sure. I think it should be fine. Maybe make a small batch to try. Keep the prepare dough balls in a tight container so it doesn’t dry out.
Thank you for the recipe, i have a technical question : the inside of the ball is "elastic" and seems not cooked enough, how can you make a crunchy sesame ball without these inconveniences ? Thank you
After cooked the inside will be glutinous “sticky” as it cool it should be less sticky and hallow. If you want a crunchy texture, add some corn starch. Also, adding a filling is a good option to.
Hi sis, can these be made the day before and cooked the next day? Also do you recommend putting the sesame seeds before frying or can I put it on the night before.
I have not tried but I think it should be fine. Let the dough come back to room temp so easier to work with. You may need to add a little more water if dough becomes dryer. Let me know how it turns out.
Hi, sound like maybe your dough is a little dry. Try to moisten it by add few drops of warm water and knead the dough for a few second afterwards. If the sesame sticks well to the dough when you fry it should not fall off as much. If it’s hard to stick on the dough it means dough is a little dry.
Thank you for the recipes, just did mine and it is a success but wanted to be more sweet, so for the next time, do I add more sugar or more coconut milk? To make the dough a little bit sweeter ?
Hi, if the weather is cooler it’ll be fine for the day otherwise you can place it in an airtight container or bag and refrigerate. There’s coconut milk so leaving it out in the heat can spoil it.
I had something like this at a diner once, sesame seeds on the out side and an orangish color like sweet potato, in ball form, but it was sticky, and wasn’t fried. Any guess to what it would be? I can’t find it anywhere, and this is the closest to what I can find.
@@PRINCESS-zb6jtyes and no. Since dry ingredients aren’t weigh for the most part you will use all 1/4 cup of the water and sometimes may need to add a few drops extra.
Hi, sorry I don’t have a recipe for a small batch but if you want to try you can halve the recipe. This recipe makes approx 1/2 foil tray after deep fried.
Hi, it could be your sesame balls have too much water or the oil temperature is to high. Try using slightly less water next time or lower the heat to see if it helps.
Not at first, when hot it’ll be “sticky” on the inside but as it cool it’s becomes hallow. To insure hallow you can press the balls slightly against the side of the pan half way through frying.

I've made this before and they turned out so good! I was just wondering if it would still work without the potatoes because I don't normally have it.
Yes they will still turn out but the round shape may not hold well. You can also replace with an actual potato boil/steam/microwave and smash like mash potato. If you do adjust the water amount.
Thank you for the recipe. Do you have a recipe for a larger batch like a full tray?

Yes you can roll out the sesame balls w/sesame seeds the night prior, cover with foil or Saran Wrap and keep them refrigerated to be dry the next day.
@@ZoeyandVFam thank you ☺️
is it still good to store half of the dough away in the fridge til tomorrow ? Don’t want to use all. No one helping me eat it 😊

Yes
How come my sesame seed keeps falling off when I cook them in oil?

Add more sugar
Instead of letting the dough sit for 15 min. How long can the dough actually sit out for?
Hi, if the weather is cooler it’ll be fine for the day otherwise you can place it in an airtight container or bag and refrigerate. There’s coconut milk so leaving it out in the heat can spoil it.
I hope it's not oily. Because the last time I had some without filling, it was like taking shots of oil.
Hi, it’s the same with and without filling.
Hey Zoey, can I use sesame oil instead of vegetable oil in the dough? Thanks!
Hi, yes you can.
I was listening to your video and you said one 1 tsp of oil wow that very little oil you use I have to try that out. From the start of your video
Yes that’s oil to mix with the dough, not for frying.
How hot does the water have to be? Lukewarm?
Hi, yes lukewarm.
After baking. What if the sesame isn't sweet enough. What could we do?
Hi, nothing really unless you want to sprinkle some powder sugar on top or coat it wraith glaze sugar cane.
I’m a little confused when you mixing the water and mash potatoes
Can you elaborate what your confuse about? It’s dry mash potatoes so you need to add warm water to it.
I had something like this at a diner once, sesame seeds on the out side and an orangish color like sweet potato, in ball form, but it was sticky, and wasn’t fried. Any guess to what it would be? I can’t find it anywhere, and this is the closest to what I can find.
Hmm I’m not to sure. Was it a dumpling?
Hi Zoey - How do you get it to be crunchy after a day or two?
It’s only crunchy the day of for this recipe.
Would I be able to leave the dough out over night and make it the next day ?
Hi, it is best to keep it refrigerated in a zip lock/closed bag or close container.
Hello Zoey,
How much servings does your recipe make with the size you rolled?
1/2 small foil tray leveled.
can you make it without instant potato? I have everything else..
Hi, with this recipe you will need to use either instant potatoes or fresh mashed potatoes.
My sesame seeds didn't stick? Did I do something wrong?
Your dough is to dry, add a few more drops of water to the dough.
Do we have to add the entire 1/4 cup of warm water at the end? I just added a little and that's probably why. 😢
@@PRINCESS-zb6jtyes and no. Since dry ingredients aren’t weigh for the most part you will use all 1/4 cup of the water and sometimes may need to add a few drops extra.
@@ZoeyandVFam thank you I'll try again
Why do you put the dough in a bag for 15 minutes? Just out of curiosity.
Hi, it helps hydrate the dough and allows the baking powder to give the dough a small rise although not much since only 15 min.
Is there a recipe for a small batch of sesame balls? How many mini balls does this recipe make?
Hi, sorry I don’t have a recipe for a small batch but if you want to try you can halve the recipe. This recipe makes approx 1/2 foil tray after deep fried.
I was wondering Is there a way to do it with fresh mashes potatoes?
Yes you can use fresh mash potatoes but you’ll need to adjust the water amount, you’ll need less water and slightly less mash potatoes.
Thank you so much
Can we add lard in there
To the dough mixture? I’m sure you can replace it. I use lard if making glutinous dumplings to get the crisp.
Confusing on the water. Is it 3/4 cup or one whole cup
Hi, 1 cup to mixed with the dry mash potatoes.
My sesame ball came out not hallow even when it cooled down. What do I need to do?
Hi, you can try slightly squeezing the balls against the side of the pan while deep frying. Do this when they are half way cooked and floating.
Do you know if you can freeze the balls an cook at a later time?
Hi, I have never tried freezing. I have tried refrigerating and no issue at all, just cover well.
Is baking powder optional?
Hi, baking powder is needed.
What can I do if my sesame ball keep popping
Hi, it could be your sesame balls have too much water or the oil temperature is to high. Try using slightly less water next time or lower the heat to see if it helps.
Hi can you make a video in english for stuff chicken wings.
Hi, yes Ill make whenever I make stuff wings. I hardly make it because it’s a lot of work to debone.
How many serve for this recipe?
It depends on size you make, these small size filled up half foil tray.
So is that a total of 1 1/4 of hot water or just 1 cup of hot water? Where is the 1/4 of water goes?
1 cup hot water is in the beginning with the mash potatoes. The 1/4 warm water is towards the end when kneading dough.
@@ZoeyandVFam oh ok. It turned out great. Thank you for sharing!
Of course:)
How hot should the oil be when deep frying?
