Get a combo slow cooker / pressure cooker, or an all-in-one SC/PC/Air Frier instead of just a slow cooker. I'm single and cooking for one is no fun and can be very expensive! From September to May my InstantPot lives on my kitchen counter even though my kitchen is tiny! I use it 3-4 times a week at least to cook protein (chicken, pork roast for pulled pork, etc) , make soups, stews, chili, pasta sauce, etc! I freeze portions and end up with a selection of homemade ready meals I can easily reheat quickly on busy nights. I use it in summer too to make rice, tomato sauce, cook protein, but not as often so I put it away between uses (underneath the desk in my office space because there's no room in my kitchen!) I've had mine for 10 years now and it's a workhorse in my kitchen! Game changer!
My most recent one is having a load of pre-cooked protein in the fridge to chop up and quickly throw in pastas/curries. You can make a great family dinner in 15 mins 👍
I have a few tips as well ... homemade cookies are great but it might be hard to control yourself if you make a full batch(it is for me) So what I do is I freeze the mix in balls on a tray, trow them in a freezer bag once they are hard and cook them from frozen one or two at a time. My other tip is for soup, to save space in my freezer I wait for the soup to cool down then I story in in ziploc type bags flat on a tray once frozen you can stack them up standing or in a pile!
New friend here, I just found your channel with this video. Whole foods are the winning way to approach food - especially here in the U.S. Meal planning/prepping once per week is my biggest savings method. It's easy to resist take-aways / out-eats when you have tasty foods in the fridge already prepared that tastes twice as good as any fast food.
Welcome aboard! Great that you found us!! Whole Foods is a bit special…bit more expensive too, mind you…!! You’re spot on though about having those home treats on hand…makes a huge difference!!!
It’s so true! If you can break it down and just do a little when you can, it doesn’t feel like such a mission but it ends up making life soooo much easier!!!
I use my slow cooker every other day (each meal does two days) in winter. Cheap to use and easy to use. Wonderful to come home to a taste meal ready to plate up.
Love that one… In Oz it’s really noticeable when things are out of season cos the price skyrockets and availability drops. I remember the UK having such huge volumes from all over the place that it was harder to know when the “season” actually was sometimes without tasting the produce.
I mean honestly, here in the US most of us are overweight including the children. When I got serious about my weight and went to a pretty strict 1200 calories a day, my grocery bill automatically went down dramatically. This isn’t a diet. It’s simply eating the way I’m SUPPOSED to eat. But when you live surrounded by so many multiple options and choices in food I think there’s a natural tendency to go overboard. Once you reign that in-you’ll quickly save time, money and calories just by being more honest with yourself.
Such a great comment…. It isn’t a diet…it’s the way we’re supposed to eat!! I visited the US earlier this year, went to a few cities in Texas (not representative of the whole country perhaps) but I couldn’t get over just how much fast food was in easy reach everywhere and how big the portion sizes were in restaurants. No one else is going to control your calorific intake but you. But like you say, you have to wake up one morning and decide that’s the day you’re gonna start being honest with yourself!
I live in Malaysia (KL) where food delivery/takeaways are not that expensive. I've found places that I know cook healthier (no sugar, lower salt/oil) and repeat order from there. I also live alone and cooking for one can get very, very tiring.
If you have a recipe for an alternative to Batchelors Golden Rice that tastes similar or better, please include that in a video.... also Pasta n Sauce Cheese & Brocolli! Seems i am a fan of Batchelor brand, just not all the questionable ingredients. Recipes i have tried are usually no where near as flavoursome.
What are the BAD food habits you want to kick? What GOOD habits have you replaced them with..?

I always thought that was a right old faff, but turns out it's super easy and saves a packet on buying lunches at work every day!

@@grocerydad - Whole foods as in real food, not the store, because like you said, it's too special for my frugalista heart, LOL.
A little food prep here and there really helps me throughout the week.

Eat seasonally available produce

It’s a tough one…those questionable ingredients often taste so good!! It stick with the search, the gain will be worth the pain!
Cold soups?
Gazpacho..?
