    Years before California outlawed lead in hunting bullets, I switched to Barnes copper bullets in the calibers I reload for. The advertising pitch about accuracy is, in my experience, NOT just a pitch. My groups are tighter with Barnes bullets than with jacketed lead bullets. You don't need to worry about concentricity variations if there is no jacket. They are kind of pricey for target shooting, but not prohibitively so. And, being a Californian, I am pleased that they are better for the environment. ;) (Ducking - - that's humor, guys! Can't wait to retire to a Free state!)

      jmfa57 Glad to hear it, I've switched to using Barnes ammo in my home defense Glock, haven't needed to use it, but it's nice to know that it has a better chance of doing the job if I ever have to use it.

    Idk if I buy that they recover the bullets.... I only hunt with barnes bullets and have yet to recover any bullet. Full pass through every time. Super accurate and knocks them d.e.d dead. Best stuff on the market in my opinion.

    I get the 110 ttsx near 3500fps in my 270 Win and very accurate using Alliant Reloader 17. That's near 1200 ft lbs @500 yards.

    I notice they show the Sig Sauer SSG 3000, love mine. But it does have a huge clearance in the magazine for loading long bullets the 208's are no prob. It would probably hold a 300 WM.

    Great bullet designed. I shot a bear not too long ago. With the TSX bullet in 270wsm. The bullet went through out the other side of the animal clean. I’m surprised, and that bear dropped at 15 yards from the spot.

    why is the velocity so high at 700 yards? for 2016ft/s, it's more like 525 yards. Can anyone confirm this?

    • @joshuahunt1210
      @joshuahunt1210 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's because of the altitude. I was wondering this too. Higher altitudes produce better long range ballistics.

    In a 223 at 300 yards they don’t open. I recovered 2 out of 3 shots on a 200lb pig. Both had the blue tip broken off but neither opened.

    Did you take into consideration that as the bullet travels down range, the rotational velocity does not decrease as fast as the bullet velocity. This causes the bullet to appear to be spinning faster than the rate of twist of the rifle. It appears you have ignored this fact in your assumptions/calculations.

    Plastic tip bullets don't perform as designed at long range because the friction heat build up at velocity melts the tips off. Hornady recently proved this and developed a tip to withstand the heat. Personally, I shoot Berger.

      M Sherman My friends and I used to use Berger exclusively, but either they didn't open up or they blew apart before really penetrating. We've moved to those new Hornady bullets you were talking about. We didn't have anything ready for this season (I used the old interlock in my old 30-06 and absolutely wrecked a mule deer. Hit both lungs and destroyed the spine, big exit hole. Can't argue with results) but we will have it ready for next.

    I'm personally not a fan of that bullet not expanding almost at all at 2000 fps and below. I could use even a bonded lead core bullet that will be heavier and have a little better BC and that will expand 2x-3x as much if not more at 1600-1800 fps than that all copper bullet would at 2000-2200 fps. The only place that i could see an all copper bullet performing better would be if I was shooting something like a 30-378 wby with 150 gr bullets for whitetail at about 3600 fps, where almost any lead core 150 gr bullet on the market would completely disintegrate but the all copper would hold together and expand very well. And at those kinds of velocities, you would still stay above that 2400-2500 fps mark out to around 450-500 yds

      Hey dumbass, it's about shock, not size!
      I've seen one of the best hunters I've ever met shoot truckloads of dear with a 270; and after filming the shots one thing becomes clear. Yes he's a good hunter, and yes he takes humane shots, but in slow motion the minor weight coupled with the sheer velocity of his round is way TOO much for any animal to attempt to stagger away from.
      You need to get up on your math..

    im having trouble reloading using these bullets. the 180 grain .308 is significantly longer than normal 180 grain rounds, so i cant seat the bullet deep enough without having to high a powder density. i dont want to lower the amount of powder i use because this might change the trajectory and i would therefore have to resight my rifle just for this round every time i switch between. any advice?

    • @TheIrongutz
      @TheIrongutz 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same issue withe the 180... Had to seat the bullets out past the second ring which helped with pressure and accuracy in my case. I went .050" off the lands and didn't have to worry about mag length and they shot great! Seating the bullet out will give you more powder room and reduce the pressure.

    Shot an elk at 375 yards with the tsx ,and bullet did not expand,instead it penciled through,when i finished tracking the elk a mile ! found the bullet ,it still looked like i could reload it again,i called barnes several times,with no response UNREAL.

    • @jvengence
      @jvengence 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Need very high velocity to get them to expand reliably. I wouldn't shoot them long range at all. Even 300 yards for some loadings is to far.
      I load some in 80gr 243 and the best I could get with powder on hand was 3077fps.
      Emailed barnes and they said 2200 fps they would expand but to be safe 2400fps so that puts me at 250 yards 2442fps and 1059ftlbs. so that is just enough speed for them to expand and just enough recommended ft/lbs for deer.
      I know that even if they expand very marginally barnes says that is expansion. To me expansion is at least 1.5x the bullet diameter. Not just the tip opening up a tiny bit.

    • @AbBowhunter
      @AbBowhunter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vince, I think Jay is correct - you may want to find out what kind of impact velocity you would be getting at that range. I have shot the TSX's a fair bit, mainly for deer - I have found they are quite hard bullets, and they need significant velocity and resistance upon impact. Hunting bullets are designed to work within specific parameters, so depending on what type of shooting you do that will affect what is going to be the best bullet design. If I recall my research correctly, the Nosler Partitions are one example of a bullet that will achieve good expansion down to about 1800fps which is their recommended minimum, no maximum. So if you do a mix of close and longer range shots, that might be a better choice. I haven't loaded up any Berger VLD's yet but will be doing some soon for my 257 Wby Mag, they are supposed to be a good choice as well for good terminal performance at various ranges but are designed for long shots. Good luck out there!

    • @702havingfun
      @702havingfun 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +AB_Bowhunter yea its a very accurate load ,i really dont want to change it ,i think they came out with a long range bullet that expands faster on impact ,it was out of a 300 weatherby mag.150gr

    • @AbBowhunter
      @AbBowhunter 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vince Gallegos Oh wow - so even at that range, you should have had ample velocity for bullet performance - above 2200fps. Also, I stand corrected on the minimum impact velocity for the TSX, it is supposed to be the same as the Partition. Hard to say what happened with your situation. I know a friend of mine hit a hog with his .243 Win using TSX hand loads - forgive me, I can't recall the bullet weight. Anyway, the bullet hit the hog almost sideways. He shot it again and after we dressed it out he recovered the first bullet. It was completely intact with just a slight bend at the nose. He was mystified by it, the only thing we figured is somehow the bullet encountered a deflection from a twig or something.

      +Ck Browning Could be your barrel twist rate. Some projectiles need faster barrel twist than others. Barring other factors like shooter error, poor manufacturing consistency or bullet seating depth, or possibly the load being too hot for the rifle, barrel twist is most likely the issue.

    • @Kman31ca
      @Kman31ca 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ck Browning My tikka shoots cheap hornandy interlocks like lasers. Sub 1/2 MOA. But shoots other more premium bullets decent but no where near as good as the hornandy or even fusion . A friend of mine has the exact same rifle and it loves almost the exact opposite ammo mine loves. Just every rifle is a touch different. If you hand load probably play with seating depths and you'll find the sweet spot.

      I stated of using Barnes bullet when I couldn't fine the nosler partition reloading bullets for an elk hunt in Colorado. So I bough what available and that was an 7mm Remington magnum x bullet 140 grs. Back in 1980 something. To test the bullet proformance to shot a pine tree at 200 yards and it penetrate the tree. The tree was 10" thick where the partition bullet doesn't or didn't exit that same tree. Ever since then I have been using Barnes bullet in my rifle.sorry Barnes but I use Hornady bullets for my pistol.

      MyREDTAIL Barnes has long claimed you can go down 20 grains with their bullets, in their mind a 130 grain is comparable to a 150 grain lead core bullet. They are longer than lead core, but copper is lighter so it has to be. I don't buy it, but I've never been a big fan of their bullets anyway.

    Nice commercial. But I am buying what your selling. Penetration is not the end all for long range hunting, and hardly ethical. Use a more accurate bullet that blows up your games vitals and put it down quick.

    • @devinb3397
      @devinb3397 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Random Kadrmas wrong. Use a bullet that penetrates the vitals, dumbs a good amount of energy AND penetrates. If it doesn’t penetrate and the animal doesn’t go down on the spot, you’ll be tracking it for a long time. When you get full penetration the animal drops far more blood. also for an angled shot, or if you hit shoulder bone, a traditional bullet can easily fail to even reach the vitals, whereas a bonded or monolithic bullet will always reach the vitals and most likely exit too.

    Why would you call it the "X Bullet" in this video, when it's actual name is / was the "Triple Shock" and/or "TSX / TTSX" - it's just way too confusing, especially since there's no "X" in the phrase "Triple Shock", and you just used Triple Shock in the video to describe them. Fail.

    • @duanewente457
      @duanewente457 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Daniel Stoner Because it's still an X-bullet. Triple shock, I believe, is their advertisement for cutting bands out of the side of the bullet. This reduces friction from the riflings while still sealing off the gasses used for propulsion. Thus increasing velocity, making it shocking? lol idk I ran out of smart shit to say..
