  • An UNBIASED review! Can the Pedal Commander throttle control fix the Toyota Tacoma engine lack? In this video I'll show you how to install the Pedal Commander. Then I'll test it out and see if this throttle control unit is overrated and all hype or, is it worth every dollar and totally underrated?

I’ve had my Pedal Commander for a couple months now. 2 concerns of mine is that the city mode seems to be more responsive than the Sport mode. Usually when driving on a slightly bumpy road or uneven road the truck gets a little jumpy whether I’m in the city or sport mode. Like if you pay close attention you can hear and feel the truck revving up and down only at slow speeds. I did the install 100% correct and I don’t have any check engine lights or anything crazy but it definitely helps take away that empty space when you first put your foot on the pedal. PLEASE DO UPDATE VIDEOS ON THE PEDAL COMMANDER every now and then.

I'll watch for that and do an update video after a few more weeks of driving with it.

Don't change it on the fly! You are supposed to be completely stopped when you change modes.

I loved my pedal commander on my 2020 Tacoma. Unfortunately, just after two years it must have died, because my throttle shut down and I received an error message: "A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected". I removed the Pedal Commander and the error was gone and I'm back to normal stock Tacoma driving. Which sucks, but I'm not risking any damage to my ECU.

Do not change it on the fly. You need to change it up on complete stop. Changing on the fly might cause future malfunctions with that device.

The Pedal Commander is awesome. I've had my 2022 TRD Off-Road 4x4 about 5 months now. I live at the end of a 1/4 mile unmaintained dirt, gravel road with a couple of sharp turns. The lag was so bad the truck would actually stop before the throttle kicks in. Even City 2 has helped a lot with the drivability. Leaving stop signs to merge on the busy state highway is also much easier. And yes, after 5 months I am re-learning how much pedal is needed.

In the beginning I felt it was fine, but over time that lag bothered me. But yeah, it is more pricey.

And I thought I was the only one having a problem removing the pedal harness. Like you said its awkward and I have arthritis in my hands. Putting it back on was easy though, just a little awkward. My truck is only 3 months old, so I think its just because of the fact that you can't get a good grip. Been running mine on Sport 1 so far. Jury still out on whether it was worth the install or not. Good video brother.

I went from a RAM 1500 with the big 7 Ltr V8 Hemi, to a 4 Ltr V6 Toyota 4Runner. It was like going from a Freight train to a rocking chair. My RAM would spin its tires just simply accelerating from a stop light, if you weren't really very careful giving her gas. If the road was wet, forget about it, you're spinning your wheels on take-off. The truck just had huge low-end torque. The 4R, lol, it can't even get out of its own way if you stomp on it. The last vehicle I was in that was so sickenly underpowered, was my father's old 1973 Ford Pinto (yes, he bought a Pinto, but nobody knew any better at the time and we had a national gas-shortage going at full swing) Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my 4R, it's a great vehicle and my grandkids will be driving it long after I'm gone, but she's an absolute cripple when it comes to HP and Torque. The PC is a necessity in vehicles like the 4R and the Taco. They both are fantastic for off-roading, climbing steep hills and deep snow and mud, but nobody likes to feel like they are driving in mud when they are actually on the highway, right?
Loved the video, thanks for sharing it. Be safe, and Peace bro.

I have a Pedal Commander installed on my relatively new 2023 Tacoma 4x4off-road. I keep it turned off. Don’t hate it but don’t love it either. Find I engage the ECT as a matter of habit. I’m pretty much satisfied with how it runs with the ECT activated.

I have a 2011 F-150 with the 5.0 motor, and I love my Pedal Commander. I have had it over a year, and it really makes a difference. Unfortunately, out of the blue my truck would start going into limp mode. I contacted Pedal Commander and they literally responded to my e-mail that day with suggestions of things to try to trouble shoot the product. When that didn't work out, they sent instructions on how to fill out the attached warranty form which you fill out right online. They then sent me a USPS label that I attached to a small box and shipped the unit back to them. To make a long story short, they repaired my unit and sent it back. Day after I installed started doing the same thing. Sent unit back again and they sent a brand new one this time and it works great.
Point is they stood behind their product no questions. Had constant timely communication and shipping times. They made it right with no grief. Kudos to Pedal Commander. Wish other manufacturers stood behind their product like this company does.

after seeing many videos and your video about pedal commander, I am still curious and still have questions about the safety of using this Pedal Commander. what if it fails while driving? Does the app needs to be updated regularly and does the control box need to be updated too? How long will this pedal commander be supported from the company? To be honest I am really skeptical, half skeptical half wanting to purchase one. Still debating though coz safety comes first since I am always on the road.

I think the Banks PedalMonster is a better solution, all the others like Pedal Commander use the 5 volts supplied to the throttle sensor system and the stock system uses as much as 4.7/4.8 volts so that leaves very little power left over for the Pedal Commander/SpeedBoost or what ever other one you have.
Banks uses 12 volts from the OBDII port so you don't ever risk overloading the pedal circuit resulting in a dead pedal. Banks also if it detects a problem will switch to the stock program so you will not get a dead pedal.
I just purchased the Banks PedalMonster for my Tacoma. It should be here August 3, 2023.

If your driving normally and floor it, does it get up and go? And if you floor it does it go faster? With the tacomas you could give it half throttle and it’ll think that you floored it.

I just did an OTT tune to my 2018 Tacoma after years of living with the pedal lag and gear hunting. It’s like a completely different truck now. Shifting is smooth, predictable and the throttle response is amazing. I got the “mild” tune, with a “medium” level on the ECT button. I LOVE my truck again. It took the tuner about 15 minutes. I’m not sure how it compares to the Commander, but I’m very happy with the results.
