It's bullshit these car companies are so greedy that they would let these cars rot rather than give them to needy families
It’s not about them being greedy, they are ALL about safety and looking out for the bottom line! If you have 1500 cars out there and 1000 catch fire it doesn’t look good for stock price or the image of the company. Then the law suits to follow. You have to think beyond the video and realize that BMW doesn’t want to take a loss on any of these cars either and they have done their due diligence in making sure of that.
@@Auction_Insider idk if you know or not but all car companies do this B.S if they can't sell the car
@@eddielwheeler the cars with a few thousand kms were cars that were already sold to people and BMW bought them back because they were unsafe

these cars were here locally to me in vancouver BC, there was a yard with hundreds of new BMWs left to rot due to "possible" salt water damage during shipping, for all those blaming BMW, the decision wasn't theirs, they were forced by transport canada to junk all cars, truly a shame and waste, honestly transport canada should be charged and penalized for the way they dealt with this
It was actually chemicals they use to de ice planes that was sprayed to melt the snow when they were in port with 6 ft of snow on them. All of these cars were inspected and are the ones the deemed unsafe by a team of inspectors from Germany
And they bang on about global warming

Growing up in Oakland County Michigan I remember going to a scrap yard in the afternoon with a friend to make a few bucks. We couldn't believe what we witnessed. A stack of brand-new corvettes six high stacked on top of each other!! All to be demolished!!! Apparently, they were test cars. For two sixteen-year-olds it was shocking. That was over 50 years ago. I think the name of the yard was Sam Allen's on the edge of Pontiac Michigan.
Awesome part cars, nice to buy instead of waiting for backorder parts
I've been working fixing cars for almost 30 years, and I struggle to understand how any amount of "excessive exposure to water, salt and ice" that could occur during the initial storage period (as described in the news article linked to in the description) could result in a car not only becoming unsafe to the point that it's unroadworthy, but doing so in such a way that's impossible to determine without destructive testing.
Rather than crushing these cars which is an appalling waste, they could have instead just auctioned them off as "Damaged in storage, sold as seen, buyer beware" and then not only would they have recovered some of their manufacturing and shipping outlay, but it would have saved thousands of likely perfectly fixable cars from destruction.
I find it difficult to believe that any of these cars would have been any more unsafe or any more beyond repair than some of the badly collision-damaged cars I've seen properly repaired and put back on the road.
The real answer is that it's all about money. If you sell 3,000 "new" BMWs at a discount on the secondary market, it reduces scarcity. e.g. it would reduces the amount of money people would be willing to pay a dealer for a new one. Fighting in the courts to be compensated for the full value and then selling new ones is more profitable. Everything is about $$$
I think they should have been sold non insurable parts cars
Lemme find me a M4 with the keys in it at this yard. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure 😂

It would be cool to see a full detail on one of these cars
We bought a new, no mileage Subaru Legacy that had been on the lot for many, many months. Right away the battery failed and the dealer replaced it. Since then, we've had it in storage for over three years because of COVID-19. It literally went from one storage facility to another.
Makes sense, wouldn't want your Subaru to catch Covid 19 out on the roads. Has it had it's 12 vaccination shots? 😂
So sad, but thanks for this Video👍
Very welcome hope you enjoyed watching it as much as I liked making it!
This brings back memories of when I was working at a BMW/Mini dealer back then as a tech and used to do PDI inspections on them when they were new. I've taken the plastic protection off so many times, if I was there, I'd start peeling it off 🤣
Did this today at work on a new M3😂
This reminds me of the VW Diesel recall, those cars are all currently sitting in an open lot in Nevada. They cannot be resold if turned in to VW unless the upgrade is done.
That was all a scam...as Kiwi testers found out...all done to push EV's diesels were too cheap to run,too reliable... hence diesel is 30p/litre more expensive than petrol right now in the UK(cheaper to produce as well), and agricultural diesel is banned on everything apart from farm equipment... all part of the WEF plan...enjoy driving while you can, it's coming to an end very soon!
@@williamrae9954 I believe you 100% I had a 2014 VW Jetta TDI that was my best car ever. All a damn scam. America still building diesel trucks with worst pollution than VW😡

Incredible
I really liked this generation of BMW as a teenager and dreamed of owning an M5 like these. It’s pretty jarring to see what happened here.
They are nice looking cars. That generation of bmw m5 is prone to rod bearing failure. There is one right now at my work with a failed engine. 2012 M5 white in colour.
Wish I could get one of these
@@movie3447 you and me both!
They were exposed to salt and ice. Is this not the normal situation for any car in Canada? Does this mean your bmw will become dangerous if you use it all winter? If they were flood damaged I would understand.
BMWs actually have super good rust protection. Mine is a 2009 still like brand new underneath. I live in the rust belt.
Aluminum & plastic composite doesn’t rust. This was for a different reason.
Can you really buy this cars ? Seriously 😡😡 this cars can be given free the interiors are sweet 😂😂
Could use them as parts instead of crushing them
Would surprise me if no parts were recovered.
I met someone who bought a new m4 convertible that ended up being part of this group. A lot of the exposed aluminum bits in the engine bay and suspension parts had that white flaking stuff on it in the short time she had it, but otherwise no issues? BMW called her up later and explained what had happened and she needed to bring her car back. They offered to replace it with a similar M4 and she agreed. Her old car is still somewhere in this video. Color was topaz? I don’t recall the official name for it.
Yes those were for sure issues I heard of also
I understand that’s not what you’d want on your new car. Scrapping it is completely on the other side of the spectrum though. My 6 year old Mercedes C-class has some flaking white stuff on the outside of the engine as well. It’s common after six years and 90k miles and it will probably last another 90k miles or more.
@@roelp1126 I do not remember everything that was explained back then in 2015. It wasn’t just cars that were delivered to the west coast, but across Canada as well. These cars were under constant excessive salt water exposure while waiting on the docks on the east coast, and at one point were encased in ice created by the ocean spray. Either way it was just a huge mess, BMW lost their lawsuit against the port, and now they are all gone.
@@Fabulousprofound168 ok thanks, that sounds like a horrible scenario! Now I understand a bit better where the flaking white stuff came from.. Of course BMW Will never be able to provide any form of guarantee for these cars. Hopefully there will be value in the parts (if I were a BMW owner, I’d definitely be interested in a nice Alpina upgrade 😉)

They should’ve went through every one thoroughly fixed it then sold it certified pre-owned with warranty.
They had a team of inspectors from Germany. These are all the ones that weren’t saved
They are from Quebec and they end up in Kimco scrap yard in Kingston, Ont. being shredded all bmw and mini cooper I remember that, some kind of water damage, driver told me that .
They had them spread out over a few yards in Canada. I would have liked to see all the other units that were across other sites but I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be able to post this video
I don’t understand how there are so many I could understand a few cancellations but this is incredible 😮
I thought it was incredible also and wanted to document it. I wanted to put this video out a long time ago but I think waiting for them to be gone was the right thing to do.
